What do you mean, it feels fine.
I drive Audi btw.
Have you tried adjusting driving aids in the car part setup menu?
Helps on some of the higher performance cars but doesn't make a difference on others.
Playing with a controller by the way.
Do you have to do this for every single car?
Also what's with the slow ass menu animations and the autosave whenever you switch cars?
Unfortunately yes, each car has separate driving aids settings. That lets you adjust steering of each car to your liking.
Autosave can be disabled by the way. GT4 has an enormous for PS2 standards 1500 KB save file, so saving can be a bit longer than expected.
Last time I played it I managed to turn off even more frequent saves but it still autosaved whenever I switched cars.
>Understeer
In which vehicle exactly? I have poured over 200,000 credits to create the Blackbird (pic related) and lol this car makes no fricking sense for track racing.
>rear engined
>rear wheel drive
>~650 HP with toruqe to match
One slight bump or wheelslip and you're done for.
Have you ever seen the video of the Yellowbird at the burgerring? If anything, the car being a oversteery widow maker is true to life.
Come home, weeeb man.
this is the only one i never played... wonder if its worth it to go through emulating
Definitely. It's one of the best games in the series.
I remember there was a download that meshed both GT2 CDs into one, was that worth anything or...?
The cars tend to be too slidy, in my experience.
What the frick is understeer and why should I care?
Been playing almost every year since its release. So I don't understand this "I must find flaws" mentality.
Understeer happens when you have more rear tire grip than front tire grip, resulting in the car plowing forward and not turning when you get on the throttle in a turn
You can fix it by using the settings in the racing suspension and differential, the exact settings needed is on a per car basis, though sometimes it will happen no matter what you do if you put all the horsepower upgrades and racing tires on an already fast car
tl;dr just use soft tires, rwd and traction control
If you use a BTCC LARPing setup you can get a decently oversteery FWD car, and those get absurdly fun.
increasing the front camber more than the rear helps too, as does reducing the strength of the rear diff
a bit of toe in on the front and setting up your shocks so the bound is a bit weaker than the rebound helps your turn in which reduces oversteer as well
the weird 3rd person camera is a huge turnoff to me
You can mod through PCSX2 to have the same camera of GT 3.
really? I saw some videos changing the fov with cheats but never that weird on rails feeling
looks like there is a new one that does
I never even noticed how bad the GT4 camera is until the comparison. Maybe that's one of the subconscious reasons I never warmed up to it as much as GT2.
GT4 feels like slow motion, no sense of speed at all
30 fps video, first person + 60 fps and a fast car looks good
I like the GT4 camera better, you see what you're turning into.
I agree, but for some reason a lot of people WANT a delay on their 3P camera. I don't know why, it's disgusting.
It looks cooler and more dynamic, it's understandable.
>the weird 3rd person camera
That's the worst thing about the game, followed by the horrendous HUD
i dont know why but gt4 was the lowpoint for gran turismo in terms of physics, they feel so strange, gt3 somehow manages to feel both more realistic and more fun at the same time
enthusia obviously had better physics and while the car roster was really good, the content on offer really wasn't good at all
Congratulations anon you now discovered why GT4 is a shitty meme opinion that people parrot. Guess which PS2 Gran Turismo is the better game?
fricking based, quality > bloat
the only problem with 3 is the boring licensed music
just curious, any reason why no gt2?
also 1st is just marketing.
GT2 is my favourite game in the series but I can see why people disregard it, it's the most rushed, content cutted, less polished and filled of bugs in the whole series
Any high-quality captures of its 1080i mode? Many on Youtube seem to be compromised.
Digital Foundry GT retrospective shows it as best as you can probably get it.
It's an extremely short segment, though.
Does anybody have a Popstarter game fix code for JP Gran Turismo 2? I've only been able to find NTSC-U.
for me this shit is almost impossible to play on PCSX2
steering is way too sensitive, pushing the analog even slightly sends a car sideways
Is GT3 a good start for someone who is relatively new to the series? I played 4 a lot as a kid but I don't remember much and hearing how much it sucks it sounds like the PS1 titles are a lot more revered.
2 and 4 are bloaty grindy games, 1 and 3 have less content but are more focused and engaging imo, choose what you prefer.
objectively though both PS2 games are better than the ps1 ones, nicer graphics, better physics, 60 fps, decent logitech ffb wheel etc.
I don't really plan on playing on a wheel. I am not a hardcore driving game player, I do remember enjoying the frick out of one of PS4 Gran Turismo games for like a month though, but I only used controller.
I literally don't know shit about cars or tuning and I don't know anything about how real car physics are supposed to work, I just want to know what the most fun Gran Turismo game is for the casual player that enjoys a challenging racing game from time to time.
The PS2 games have better graphics for sure but honestly I kind of prefer that ps1 aesthetic. Is there any hack to make GT3 60fps on emulator?
GT3 and 4 are both 60fps. If you meant GT1 or 2, then there are cheats to enable 60fps in emulator.
like i said the PS2 games play better overall, be it on pad or wheel, 60 fps + improved physics really make the difference, rally in gran turismo 2 felt like shit compared to 3 imo.
if you really want to start with a ps1 game go for gran turismo 1, it's pretty solid, short and somewhat arcadey.
You don't use a wheel because you're a "hardcore driving game player", you use one because it's genuinely more fun to play them with one. But I get what you mean.
It's as good as a starting point as any game in the series, imo it plays better on a controller.
>streamlined
>less bloat
GT3 makes you replay the same events multiple time just adding more laps.
>GT3 makes you replay the same events multiple time just adding more laps.
that's what racing is all about, kinda prefer it to the grindy collecting autismo with no focus from gran turismo 2.
I understand the sentiment, but the moment you get stuck doing a 10 lap race in a shitbox with absolutely 0 challenge from the AI it gets kinda tiresome.
Imo 3 and 2 have the perfect length endurance races.
GT3 is an excellent game and its campaign mode feels much more streamlined compared to GT4. I love both games and don't feel like they cancel each other out.
Why do GT fans obsess over this one?
I've played through all and it has nothing on 2 and 6
It has the longest career mode out of all these games. Other than that it's pretty bland and a lot of the tracks are annoying as frick such as Fuji speedway which is repeated bit too much in the game. Not sure if it's the emulation or not but GT4 car handling feels twitchy as frick (even though I have made sure my analog sticks are properly mapped from 0 to 1 and not cutting off or vice versa).
GT6 basically makes all the other games obsolete if you've never played the retro ones before.
But GT3 is a legend for me, playing through it over the summer of 2001 before the entire world went to absolute shit. Love that game and STILL have my original disc with ZERO scratches on it. Also, when I open up the manual inside the case(just did) I can still get that "new PS2 game smell" from it.
GT3 and GT6 are awesome. GT4 has great music though and is also very nostalgic.
GT3 was just such a big leap, looked great, ran great and the driving had a polished simcade balance, compared to 2's weird attempt at realism.
I played 3 before 2. I actually played 2 after 3 while awaiting the release of 4. GT3 was huge in my life at the time because like many other young fricks I watched Gone in 60 Seconds and the Fast and the Furious and GT3 fit right in like a jigsaw piece.
That summer was THPS2 and GTA3. Gorillaz and Crystal Method had albums out. Shit was cash and coins.
I got some good use from the GT3 manual with it's great basic guide to racing
Frick that song honestly.
total opposite for me
I looked forward to failing, except for the one where you have to do an entire lap of the ring without grazing the edge or falling behind or bumping the pace car though
i wish you could play older GT games online with 8 players. Would be cool to hang around in some matches with you anons in GT2.
I wish, GT2 would be perfect for it. I hope someday it gets decompiled so stuff like this becomes actually possible.
who knows. fightcade didn't even implement Tekken games yet and PSOne games only recently started to get properly dissected. Some mad lad might make an 8 player GT possible one day. Till then: don't die on me.
put road tires on
