I haven't watched the video, it was just on the top of my feed and inspired this thread, but the guy never uses items afaik.
Items are banned and even at 100 it literally doesn't work, in RBY you get stuck at the ghost tower and in FRLG you can't beat the E4 even at 100
Just use save states, and save scum for critical hits. You can get through the E4.

some attacks are incapable of harming types at all and the mon's overall stats are tied to the race, this one in particular is a failure. these games are designed better than you think
he also kinda cheated and gave his caterpie slightly higher hp than it should ever have and just kinda glosses over it in the video lol

struggle is normal type in rby so I think this is possible
i don't watch them but i enjoy the creativity. when games are so well created that they're essentially solved, the limitations give way to creative new ways to play and i'm all for that shit. new pokemon games will NEVER have this level of SOUL.
I like that dude's enthusiasm, but I always skip around to just the highlights and the final battles

autists dont understand the point of the video, in 99% of the videos its not a super mega challenge requiring god tier gaming skills its just a fun little run with a few quirks and someone interesting/funny* commentating over it

I recently started doing a less autistic version of that, and played through each gen only using bug pokemon.
pretty fun actually.

One thing that Pokemon does well is that you can technically beat the game with any type of team you want. And you have +150 to +1000 pokemon to choose from.
The only way I can enjoy the games anymore is with a "no experience points" mod
it's funny when people say pokemon games are too easy while also building teams of pseudo legendaries, abusing set up moves and playing on shift instead of set
I just did a playthrough of Brilliant Diamond and the Cynthia battle was genuinely a real challenge when using Pokemon like Lumineon and cherrim

they're fun if the person playing does a bunch of insane shit to accomplish their goal. If they just play through and it's slightly tough and they do smaller work arounds then it's boring. I want to see shit like skyrim bucket flying and other crazy game breaking glitches.

i did it once for shits and giggles, you have to grind for like 10 hours just to beat brock and its super annoying because you have to cancel the evolution every time you level up
Weedle is worse at the beginning but can make it past Lavender, unlike caterpie
Neither can beat the elite 4 however

I watched seer's video yesterday and it was pretty funny but it's because it was seer and not because it was pokemon. I wish he'd make the second part to his jrpg video.
I watched a bunch of Elden Ring videos like this recently and they're mostly fun, occasionally they'll be clearly too easy for the person doing them or they're just tedious like "punching only".
But it led me to discover "bingo" 1v1 runs, something I had no clue existed but after watching a few I think it's fricking brilliant.
Jrose is one of the best at it. I don't watch many, but I will always watch his because I want to see him accomplish his goal.
I only like these videos when the challenge is actually absurd, and makes you wonder how the hell the game is even supposed to function under those restrictions. Like when I see the video title I don't want to go "yeah probably I guess?" I want to go "what the frick is wrong with the person who made this?"

Depends on the challenge and the solution used in the video.
A lot of those videos highlight tactics, abilities, items, exploits that you'd never learn about playing the game normally. It can be quite fun to watch.
Other videos just brute force it, which is fricking boring. Doesn't matter if it's hoping for good rng or playing absolutely perfect in action games, either way it's just a snore.
