the shit tv show isn't cannon and it was written by the moron warren ellies, a moron that got canceled for trying to hypnotize women into having sex with him
Probably IV for me, have really fond memories of the experience. Genuinely "cinematic" in a good sense.
Rondo has the best balance of gameplay and presentation for sure.
>with the books
?? Do you mean Portrait of Ruin?
I'm playing it right now but I think I'm just burned out after playing so many at the start of the year. Sure it's "fun", but I don't find myself hooked by anything
I actually already played through 80% of Portrait years ago, but it felt like I almost sleepwalked through it. I've only recently gained a deeper appreciation for the Castlevania franchise but now that I'm playing this game again I find myself burned out of the franchise instead. I'm having fun, but compared to the previous games I played the past couple of months it feels kind of "hollow". I'm not sure if I should just keep playing nonetheless or wait until I have a bigger craving for Castlevania again.
I'm really bad at video games so as much as I try to enjoy the classic Castlevanias, I just end up frustrated and drop them. The only Castlevania I actually beat was Aria of Sorrow, which while enjoyable, kinda felt like a baby game for little b***hes like myself. I'm sure there's harder endings I could go for to increase the difficulty but whatever.
The only *vania games I've enjoyed at Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 1 (not 2) and The Mummy Demastered.
Rondo and 4
Genuinly enjoyable games.
Not much of a fan of the expliration games. Although i only played SotN (which i decently enjoyed) and Harmony (which i didn't).
Unironically the first one.
You can literally beat it in 15 minutes once you git gud and it has no negatives, it's a masterpiece of game design and my favourite NES game.
We don't talk about 2 outside of the music.
Castlevania 3 is great too but the other characters feel like a crutch and the pace is much slowed due to the sheer size of the game.
4 is gay mario kiddie shit for people who need air control cuz they suck at video games, until you get near the end where they were like "oh shit Black person, we forgot to make the game hard and they just throw a bunch of annoying shit at you.
Bloodlines is great, it brings back the classic controls while tastefully adding memes like whip swinging and diagonal shots. Endgame is very rushed though, classic Konami right there.
Chronicles/68K is fun too, basically SC4 but for people with actual taste. You can also fight people online over which version of the OST is the best.
Rondo of Blood is great, a bit too anime for some people though. I like the secret paths but I'm not a fan of the backflip thingy, feels very awkward to use. It also introduced item crash which is neat.
SoTN is a fun and great game that's dragged down by being easier than baiting people on Ganker, it also started the IGAvania trend of low budget clones.
LoI is still the best attempt at 3D Castlevania yet for Konami. The level design is kinda basic and boring but I really enjoy the DMC-lite mechanics of the game. Also possibly the absolute best Michiru Yamane OST you'll ever hear.
CoD is fun too, you get pokemons and wreck shit with them. Level design is barely improved and it somehow looks a bit worse than its predecesor.
I haven't really played any other Castlevania games but I don't think I'm missing anything noteworthy.
Super Mario with a 30 feet long whip that you can swing around 360 degrees isn't "better gameplay", it's just casualized trash for morons like you who don't like Castlevania.
>muh real fans
Embarrassing behavior. Sorry 4 was the best.

Commited jumps are part of the core design of classic Castlevania.
If you don't like that then you're unironically a fake fan.

Whatever cope you need, homosexual. I don’t even dislike 1/3 or even 2, but I guess the CV fanbase is just THIS autistic over a single design change that isn’t even part of what makes me love 4.

What makes you "love" 4 then? the longer whip? the 360 directions you can swing which trivializes every encounter and enemy placement?

I do like whipping in 8 directions since it only makes sense, but it’s mainly the graphics, music, and whip grapples.
A shame you’re such an enormous angry homosexual we can’t discuss it normally.
Don’t you have a souls general to go wank in or something?

I don't like 4, I don't even care about console wars from 30 years ago. It's just not a Castlevania game to me. It's more of an experimental tech demo by Konami, even its music has a different tone compared to the other games in the series.
Mode 7 is laggy shit that look awful. The air control in your jumps goes against the core game design (and yes, they actually programmed the jumps to have no air control in the previous games, you even have Grant in 3 with full air control jumps and Trevor still has commited jumps because it's intended). The whip in 4 is not only longer but being able to whip in every direction really fricks with the enemy encounters, there's no more strategy to your poisitioning because you don't need to move anywhere in order to hit the enemies. It's really fricking lazy and lame and it shows when they try to make the endgame harder by forcing you through annoying automated flying platform sections where you insta-die to spikes and shit.

Sounds to me like you didn't even finished 4 if you don't understand why the endgame section is absolute shit and highlights the core issue with the main combat being casualized.
You remind me of Sonic 2 Black folk who claim it's the best because they never got past Casino Night Zone.

I think this level is what made me realize some of the level design is just dogshit and made to annoy you and not much else, just not a very engaging type of difficulty to do shit like place enemies between stairs so your character walks onto them instead of using whatever subweapon you wanna use
And then when the hydra gave me a hard time as Belmont and on my second try I switched to Sypha and literally instagibbed him it gave me the most flaccid feeling ever.

I really like Rebirth since it's keeping old shit like only one whip direction, no air control when walking of platform, while adding new shit like full air control, and in general game feels amazing
It's decent, comes down to your expectations going in. The combat is functional and can be kinda fun. Levels are pretty but somewhat repetitive and stretched out. Music is fantastic and the general Castlevania vibe and soul is definitely there and that's one of the main reasons to play it: https://youtu.be/6sh08ym4GgM
Rondo of Blood, closely followed by Castlevania 3 as well as CV64+LoD. Really need to play Curse of Darkness, I bet I'll love it.
>CV64+LoD
Legitimately underrated games, no idea why people shit on 64 so much.
solely because of ecelebs
I find myself replaying Symphony of the Night every year so yes probably that. But damn if 3 (NES) and 2 (Gameboy) aren't fine games too.
Symphony of the Night... Wait a minute...
Isn't that the one with the bisexual vampire that got fricked in his ass?
No, that's Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Gay. Same company tho
You people really are sensitive snowflakes

Portrait is the best game ever made

I really like the locations, just wish the castle itself had more variety or was more memorable.
harmony of dissonance, super 4, Castlevania nes, ecclesia, and aria in that order
Super Castlevania IV. Frick IGAslop.
Super 4, I actually stopped my playthrough of the series after finishing Lament. Still need to play the DS games and Curse of Darkness
Harmony of Despair with my Gankerros
I'm still befuddled how this shithole managed to play for a few weeks without some subhuman janny trying to nuke it
Jankvania was pure jank kino.

in particular, Super Castlevania Bros gays are a plague on these threads.
Symphony followed by 3 or 4. I replayed the Sorrow duology recently and the games weren’t as fun as I remember them being.

SotN
OoE
CoD
concise 10/10
Classics: III
Metroidvania: OoE
3D: CoD (mostly because the different weapons and familiar combinations were fun)
2D: Rondo of Blood.
3D: the most kino, Curse of Darkness.
got a soft spot for the 3 gba ones
sotn even if its not cool to say so
love that cover but is the game any good?

SotN is the classic for me, it ages like fine wine too, so every revisit holds up incredibly well.
From there is PoR, OoE, CoD, AoS, LoI, DoS, HoD and CotM.
If you wanna count bloodstained RotN, it is right below DoS.
>Konami is making 6 sh games
and nothing else
X68K is the only good Castlevania.
I tried playing the first one and I'm really getting filtered by the difficulty, abusing save states doesn't make it much easier
