JRPG: SMT Nocturne hands down
WRPG: Dragon Age Origins, but am playing through Fallout 3 and Skyrim (loving themà and next will try New Vegas so maybe my choice will change
Thanks. Too few people know Avellone specifically drew heavy inspiration from JRPGs at the time.
Fall-from-Grace's chants are fucking Japanese in slow motion, for example.
>West releases Wizardry
Japs take notes, make it into their own, over-the-top genre >West releases Severance, Blade of Darkness
Japs take notes, make it into their own, over-the-top genre
You really can't say that western devs copied Japan, as japanese work was already a copy.
I don't even understand how someone likes daggerfall. do you just enjoy doing literally the same thing over and over? you like gray hallways? having your time wasted?
I don't know if I could even think of a single WRPG that I like. They're all so awkward and unintuitive. I guess Fallout 1 is good, but I haven't played too much. Dragon Age: Origins is solid as well, and I did beat that.
I'd love to experience them, but they all seem so bad and awkward. Maybe there's a video of how to enjoy the older ones.
>maybe there's a video on how to enjoy the older ones
Imaging needing to be told how to enjoy things
Here's a tip - generate a non-hivemind based concious thought for yourself
And hard mode - Don't ask an eceleb how to do it!!!

I don't believe in such spooks/garden gnome marketing programming so go fuck yourself. There's only two things, RPGs and not-RPGs.

Yes I think Archolos surpassed main Gothic games. Yes, it bares the honorary Gothic 3 title. The other Gothic 3 never happened.

Is Dark Souls even a JRPG? It seems more like a WPRG made by a Japanese studio.
It was made in Japan. JRPG, there's not a single western studio that could pull off a decent souls-like.
"Souls-like" is actually just Blade of Darkness-like, sit the fuck down Gankertard zoomoid.
this. except blade of darkness had enemies with resonable health and didn't feature retarded, telegraphed attacks with pauses between them.
I hate japanese games for the most part but yeah so far every single western attempt at re-creating souls games was a complete embarassment
They were never good because of combat. It was atmosphere all along. I don't understand how so many devs fail to see this.
It's not like western Soulslikes have good combat either
That too
But it was passable in games like LOTF

Suikoden 2 and Fallout 1
Both are mostly for sentimental reasons and I don't think I could argue some zoomer into liking them
