If I had to pick Megas, but I wish there were more like Beedrill and less given to legendaries and pseudos
This. Megas should have been primarily for mons with 500bst or less.
There is too much you have to change to make Megas good. For example, as long as you can only mega evolve once per turn you will always go for the most powerful one and the rest will never make it to the team. At the end of the day megas only exist for powercreep and if you were to balance it it would lose its reason for being.

No one ever played Wonder Launcher, even though I thought it was a ton of fun.
Yeah at least that one was optional and not the main thing, not sure why OP included it, i was more talking about the ones from gens 6+

I hate the DS games as much as the next guy but ball capsules have no effect on battle and Wonder Launcher is multiplayer only. Megas, Z-moves, Dynamax, and Tera is what most normal people mean when they say "battle gimmick". Gen 4 and 5 don't need help inventing problems, they do a good job themselves.

How is the ball capsule a battle gimmick? It's just aesthetic, it doesn't change anything in battle. It only effects anything in contests.
Which makes it an actually good battle gimmick that should never have been cut
Probably ball capsule or wonder launcher. Was fun to mess with them once or twice, but then I can freely ignore it entirely
