What's your go-to for replays of old games? The originals? Third versions? Fan mods?
I feel like Shin Red has offered me the best Gen 1 experience overall. DX is nice, too. For Gen 2, I have trouble deciding between Sour Crystal and Polished Crystal for the one I enjoy most, but Perfect Crystal is always my choice for "accurate" replays.

Crystal Legacy is the best way to play crystal because it still feels like a gen 2 game.
Crystal Legacy is just a bad middle ground between Perfect and Sour that people only bring up because it was made and shilled by a Poketuber. If you're the kind of person who can't deal with Polished or Sour's changes, Legacy's autistic fanfiction is absolutely too much.
Perfect and sour are vastly inferior
The only thing Legacy has that Sour doesn't is scaling the mid game gyms. You can recreate Legacy sans that one feature yourself with no programming knowledge by following idiot proof instructions for PokeCrystal online. Even if you somehow find Sour too much or Perfect not enough, you can just make Legacy without moronic Giovanni simping or ridiculous Pokemon stat reworks yourself pretty easily. Perfect and Sour are open source, so you can just edit out the parts you dislike, unlike Legacy.
Legacy is supposed to be a vanilla+ type of remake, not a big complex revamp that takes away from it actually being Crystal.

If you actually want a game like Gen 2, Perfect is much closer. If you want modern features, Polished handles it better. If you want rebalancing without changing Gen 2 much, Sour accomplished this far more faithfully and effectively while being easier to tweak if you want to change things.

That's not what Legacy does. It inserts him into multiple scenes and changes the core plot of Johto.

OG Crystal. Gens 3-5 all feel like a awkward middle ground between retro and modern where all the mechanics that Gen 3 introduced continued to plague the series until Gen 6 started making thing fully manageable.

Emulators and PKHex made it really easy to play the old games, so I just play those, and cheat whatever I need to complete the dex.
I'm just having fun around.
Storm silver is my go to for Jhoto
I wish it had less new mons (still a few additions as the base game is lacking), I'm mainly in for the difficulty, I feel like having Hoenn mons running around kind of ruins the vibe.
