There are many PS2 games that leveraged their art style to look good and still look good today. Many people still play old games and prefer games made in that era or earlier. If the game is doing everything else right, players' imaginations will fill in the gaps like they always have.

Final Fantasy X was the final nail in the coffin for the mainline series moving forward, and former BDU1 is a cancer on Square/Enix that needs to be excised. VII, VIII, X, XIII, and 7R are all mediocre to dogshit games and the throughline design features that define all of them are the absolute sole explanation for why modern Final Fantasy is so awful.
XII was an isolated incident of a game being great in spite of being hampered by the vindictful management- it is also not a mainline Final Fantasy. XII is the closest the series ever got to being an actual RPG that could rival its sister series(s) like SaGa, if it had sold better and Enix hadn't burned Matsuno and banished Ito to the basement, we might be living in a different and better future.

Website about how Metacritic displays its aggregate scores, down to the color background it uses for score ranges, has been a massive detriment to game discussion. Aggregate scores shouldn't even be taken more seriously than individual credible reviews, and it actively boxes out reviewers that intentionally avoid numerical scores due to the skewed perception they have.
Speaking of, here's my contentious thought: a 6/10 SHOULD mean it's good. Nothing incredible either due to a lack of ambition or falling short of ambitions. The demonization of the 6/10 due to mediocre and even trash games getting that score from outlets to soften the blow to big publishers is fricking bullshit. Some people unironically believe a 7.5/10 is bad.
I agree but I think people forget how much of a buggy fricking mess F:NV was on launch. Even replaying it this year I had to install SEVEN bug fix mods and I still had some issues, plus the game would occasionally crash. Fo3 wasn't perfect either but my initial impressions of NV were a crash every hour and the first 5 hours being slow paced. I'm not surprised it got an inferior average review score when most reviewers had to rush through a game that was constantly crashing. Plus I assume most of them didn't take the time to fully explore all the quests or areas due to needing to have a review ready to go ASAP.

Wildlands had a great story for what it was, I really enjoyed that game for some reason. Ubisoft can be competent if they chose to be. I don't think we will ever get something like that from them again because Bolivia complained. They play it safe because profit margins dictate it.
I agree with this, although I have a more positive opinion of the LGBTQ than you. Nobody should get special treatment. And that includes in regard to pain and suffering. I've quite liked that aspect of BG3- sure, there's a bunch of diverse mercenaries including armored black women and white men, but they're all nothing but charred meat crushed under rubble once the dragon's done with them. The game, like a good DnD campaign, makes no effort to champion race or gender politics- there's more important things to worry about, like evil cults and marauding monsters who will gladly dismember and defile you like anyone else. THIS is equality. Not that mainstream "you have to respect us to the point of borderline worship or you're bad and we'll ruin your life" bullshit.
The GTA trilogy remasters aren't that bad, I played the older versions on PS2 recently outside of of San Andreas having atmosphere issues, the remakes are fine, albeit flawed.

2's gunplay is mediocre & the guns are by & large shit. Jack, Tiny Tina's DLC, & caustic caverns are the only things I found better than anything in 3. 2's dialogue/story are just as cringe as, just 2012 cringe instead of 2019. Plus 3's soundtrack is great, the mixing just sucks which pisses me off more than the story ever did. Seriously go listen to the tracks with a decent sound system, I love the Maliwan themes.
The OG models for GTA are nothing special. I have San Andreas going rn, the textures are fine nothing special. I know it's funny to meme the more egregious examples in the remasters but they really aren't that jarring, easy frick ups sure. I'm more annoyed by the color palette's and draw distance being set to max ruining the scope of a state like the OG SA.
One-shot mechanics in the higher difficulties are just bad and lazy designs. Enemies shoumd get smarter or more aggressive with more abilities and not just do 450% more damage.
This is what Breakpoint did right compared to Wildlands and other tactical shooters like Ground Branch.
The health system lets you take some shots and recover if you get breathing room for bandages even on the hardest difficulty, but you're still easily taken down if you misplay, and a bot's shotgun point blank will rightfully one shot you.
I dislike Outer Wild DLC.

Wasting a key on some manual healing, having some dedicated healing thing like Estus Flasks (for which you only have a few charges even though you can carry 999x of everything else), bloating your inventory with healing items, needing to go back to an inn or some shit, and dedicated healer roles are all fricking dumb. The last one is both gay and moronic; everyone on the battlefield should be a capable fighter, and everyone should also be self-sufficient.
Regen when out of combat for a long enough moment, and reviving downed allies is the best system bar none.
The only other form of healing that is cool is vampiric health drain, but that often leads to the first point of causing fights to drag out into gay battles of attrition so frick that too.
Double jumping is the worst. Any gap/height that needs just one jump may as well not exist, and any gap/height that needs two jumps may as well have just needed one. There is nothing interesting that can be done with double jumping alone, it is worthless unless it is paired with other mobility mechanics which is why it is almost never alone. Literally every other mobility mechanic is not only cooler, but they facilitate far more interesting gameplay.
Frick sniper rifles. No one has the balls to balance them properly because "muh one shot one kill" homosexualry. Just because it takes about one second between rounds fired doesn't mean it should be allowed to kill in 0.0 seconds with an easy snapshot while everything else takes 0.5~ seconds of persistent on-point gunfire.

I developed serious problems chasing AAAAs in Stepmania when I was in high school and I would severely burn songs and charts into my brain. It evolved out of grinding AAAs in DDR in the last arcade near my school. I should be getting a StepManiaX pad and monitor in about a month and I'm fully expecting to start the grinding obsession all over again.
Pure luck, I got in touch with someone at the company via a guy I met at an arcade. I think they're able to sell them as one-offs but they probably don't like to put them up as available on the site until they have enough stock available.

I probably had over a thousand songs in my songs folder by the time I went to college and unfortunately dropped rhythm games for a while.
Maybe you should upgrade to the next level and consider investing in IIDX or Pop'n setups. A problem people have with rhythm games is focusing on just one and getting as good as possible instead of branching out. Even Taiko requires a different skillset from any other series.

Graphics don't really matter. I can appreciate it when a game looks beautiful and it pushes the technological edge but I honestly think that if games stopped around the graphical level of the gold source and focused on making games more creative, immersive and more importantly fun then the gaming landscape would be in a much better state. No, sekiro perfected it. Elden ring almost perfected mage pve combat but since the game was made with magic as an afterthought, you can steamroll literally every boss in the game with little pushback. A souls like game centered around magic could be amazing though.

There are many PS2 games that leveraged their art style to look good and still look good today. Many people still play old games and prefer games made in that era or earlier. If the game is doing everything else right, players' imaginations will fill in the gaps like they always have.

Final Fantasy X was the final nail in the coffin for the mainline series moving forward, and former BDU1 is a cancer on Square/Enix that needs to be excised. VII, VIII, X, XIII, and 7R are all mediocre to dogshit games and the throughline design features that define all of them are the absolute sole explanation for why modern Final Fantasy is so awful.
XII was an isolated incident of a game being great in spite of being hampered by the vindictful management- it is also not a mainline Final Fantasy. XII is the closest the series ever got to being an actual RPG that could rival its sister series(s) like SaGa, if it had sold better and Enix hadn't burned Matsuno and banished Ito to the basement, we might be living in a different and better future.

Website about how Metacritic displays its aggregate scores, down to the color background it uses for score ranges, has been a massive detriment to game discussion. Aggregate scores shouldn't even be taken more seriously than individual credible reviews, and it actively boxes out reviewers that intentionally avoid numerical scores due to the skewed perception they have.
Speaking of, here's my contentious thought: a 6/10 SHOULD mean it's good. Nothing incredible either due to a lack of ambition or falling short of ambitions. The demonization of the 6/10 due to mediocre and even trash games getting that score from outlets to soften the blow to big publishers is fricking bullshit. Some people unironically believe a 7.5/10 is bad.
I agree but I think people forget how much of a buggy fricking mess F:NV was on launch. Even replaying it this year I had to install SEVEN bug fix mods and I still had some issues, plus the game would occasionally crash. Fo3 wasn't perfect either but my initial impressions of NV were a crash every hour and the first 5 hours being slow paced. I'm not surprised it got an inferior average review score when most reviewers had to rush through a game that was constantly crashing. Plus I assume most of them didn't take the time to fully explore all the quests or areas due to needing to have a review ready to go ASAP.

Wildlands had a great story for what it was, I really enjoyed that game for some reason. Ubisoft can be competent if they chose to be. I don't think we will ever get something like that from them again because Bolivia complained. They play it safe because profit margins dictate it.

I've quite liked that aspect of BG3- sure, there's a bunch of diverse mercenaries including armored black women and white men, but they're all nothing but charred meat crushed under rubble once the dragon's done with them. The game, like a good DnD campaign, makes no effort to champion race or gender politics- there's more important things to worry about, like evil cults and marauding monsters who will gladly dismember and defile you like anyone else. 2's gunplay is mediocre & the guns are by & large shit. Jack, Tiny Tina's DLC, & caustic caverns are the only things I found better than anything in 3. 2's dialogue/story are just as cringe as, just 2012 cringe instead of 2019. Plus 3's soundtrack is great, the mixing just sucks which pisses me off more than the story ever did. Seriously go listen to the tracks with a decent sound system, I love the Maliwan themes.
The OG models for GTA are nothing special. I have San Andreas going rn, the textures are fine nothing special. I know it's funny to meme the more egregious examples in the remasters but they really aren't that jarring, easy frick ups sure. I'm more annoyed by the color palette's and draw distance being set to max ruining the scope of a state like the OG SA.
BL3 goes from like a 6/10 to a 8.5/10 just by installing the mod that removes all the dialogue

I prefer reworked enemy placement so you can intuit the new challenges instantly. Give new moves to bosses.
This is what Breakpoint did right compared to Wildlands and other tactical shooters like Ground Branch.
The health system lets you take some shots and recover if you get breathing room for bandages even on the hardest difficulty, but you're still easily taken down if you misplay, and a bot's shotgun point blank will rightfully one shot you.

Wasting a key on some manual healing, having some dedicated healing thing like Estus Flasks (for which you only have a few charges even though you can carry 999x of everything else), bloating your inventory with healing items, needing to go back to an inn or some shit, and dedicated healer roles are all fricking dumb. The last one is both gay and moronic; everyone on the battlefield should be a capable fighter, and everyone should also be self-sufficient.
Regen when out of combat for a long enough moment, and reviving downed allies is the best system bar none.
The only other form of healing that is cool is vampiric health drain, but that often leads to the first point of causing fights to drag out into gay battles of attrition so frick that too.
Double jumping is the worst. Any gap/height that needs just one jump may as well not exist, and any gap/height that needs two jumps may as well have just needed one. There is nothing interesting that can be done with double jumping alone, it is worthless unless it is paired with other mobility mechanics which is why it is almost never alone. Literally every other mobility mechanic is not only cooler, but they facilitate far more interesting gameplay.
Frick sniper rifles. No one has the balls to balance them properly because "muh one shot one kill" homosexualry. Just because it takes about one second between rounds fired doesn't mean it should be allowed to kill in 0.0 seconds with an easy snapshot while everything else takes 0.5~ seconds of persistent on-point gunfire.

Rhythm games are the most purely fun genre of video game and nothing even comes close.
Shmup gays like to claim their genre is the purest source of dopamine but the sheer joy and elation I receive when I 100% a song in a rhythm game is unmatched by any other artform. I still think the happiest I've ever been in my entire life was my first Heavy AAA in Dance Dance Revolution.
I developed serious problems chasing AAAAs in Stepmania when I was in high school and I would severely burn songs and charts into my brain. It evolved out of grinding AAAs in DDR in the last arcade near my school. I should be getting a StepManiaX pad and monitor in about a month and I'm fully expecting to start the grinding obsession all over again.

I think I had an AAA on this one with like 5 perfects that I just couldn't work out on the jacks. Honestly, it was so long ago that I couldn't name any songs unless I was reminded of them. I probably had over a thousand songs in my songs folder by the time I went to college and unfortunately dropped rhythm games for a while.
Maybe you should upgrade to the next level and consider investing in IIDX or Pop'n setups. A problem people have with rhythm games is focusing on just one and getting as good as possible instead of branching out. Even Taiko requires a different skillset from any other series.

Competitive e-sport video games in general are dumb, and are filled with the angriest people you can ever find on the internet. Most of them don't even enjoy the game, they are just addicted to seeing their rank go up. If you were born with a competitive spirit these games do nothing but waste it.
Multiplayer games are best when they are casual but have a high skill ceiling.
Graphics don't really matter. I can appreciate it when a game looks beautiful and it pushes the technological edge but I honestly think that if games stopped around the graphical level of the gold source and focused on making games more creative, immersive and more importantly fun then the gaming landscape would be in a much better state. Yeah, the water in Sea of Thieves is pretty and all but its also a boring ass game.
You should always set difficulty as hard as you can manage.

I'm 24. Death Stranding is my favourite game ever after playing vidya since I was 5. I have played just about every genre, 99% of relevant games and I have even gone back and played old vidya and enjoyed them thoroughly. Still, Death Stranding is my favourite game ever.

Why? Well, they actually have an excuse: since hacked clients are so normalized and ubiquitous, the better players need to prove they're legit, and playing in front of a live audience lets them verify their accomplishments.
