        zero hour was supposed to be more content, more units, more individuality for each general. for example there are no maps for infantry general and demo general in zero hour but they where in work. you can play against demo in the shockwave mod btw, which literally advertises itself with being zero hour like it was meant to be. mod is a great deal of fun either way

          I loved Shockwave back in the day and it's what I stayed on after getting bored of ZH, but it's just an expansion to the expansion and ZH still does a lot to improve upon vanilla. Vanilla doesn't even have the titular generals for fricks sake.
          What are you thoughts on Contra? It seems to be the current go-to mod.

            ZH has more content than generals, and arguably better (i have a grudge against the last few china missions in ZH though), but that's not my argument. My argument is that in ZH is the point where the decline starts because they took shortcuts on the side of content to rush a product that could have been even better. If you imagine it on a line chart, you will see the point of decline is the highest point of the charge. that's what i mean.

            i see from a game design standpoint where they came from, like rank requirements encouraging early skirmishing and super units breaking a lategame stalemate, but it just didn't click for me. Maybe because it felt like it encouraged playing streamlined metas in multiplayer matches which i never enjoyed.
            For the most part i still just play shockwave

      it's all of the games ready to play in one click
      if you want to pay for your games or not deal with the hassle of mounting ancient boomer iso's then yes. even renegade was fun and that's the worst game in the pack.

      it works and it's at a reasonable price. gotta get origin on your machine though which is kinda gay. also sometimes a little messy with patching / modding

    generals was the last good cnc game
    they declined because EA got ahold of it and made nothing for a few years, then shit out soulless nu-cnc instead of generals 2.
    the games aesthetic decline went from campy sci-fi/red scare parody RTS world with decent lore to goofy meme world with cnc 3 + ra. the modding community is still alive and people still play all of the games i consider good so it's not really a big deal.
