These are cool ig. It's not really the pokemon designs that i have a problem with in newer gens, i do think there's been a downgrade in this department as well but it's really no big deal especially with how much they throw old designs at you anyway, i wish that was the only problem with gens 6+
And i honestly much prefer an ugly new pokemon rather than a gimmick form of an old one
With SM
In retrospect gen 6 was bad too but SM were really the game where i was like man this isn't pokemon, it made me drop the franchise for a while and now i only play gens 1-5 games
exactly this. at least in gen 6 there was a feeling that things could still turn around. SM was the point where I realized the trajectory they were on was not going to change. never touched a switch game, I just come back to the old games for nostalgia once in awhile.
>No gyms >Rotom turned into an annoying cereal mascot >HMs replaced by random pokemon you don't own carrying you around >Focus on human characters >All the casualization from gen 6 still present
SM objectively doesn't feel like a pokemon game. It's closer to other stuff like yokai watch.
turned into an annoying cereal mascot
I know I'm picking on just one of your complaints, but why is this always parroted by gen 7 haters? Who fricking cares this much about Rotom? It doesn't even disrupt gameplay much, there's maybe one time throughout the game where you're stopped dead in your tracks to listen to what it has to say. The rest of the game, its dialog is displayed on the bottom screen.
S/M are loaded with way too much unnecessary dialog, but Rotom is not a part of the problem.
That's fine, but does this anger you to the point that you'd call it one of Sun/Moon's biggest flaws? I see it brought up on here more often than it should be.

The only game I bought since Sun (which I never completed) is Legends Arceus as I quit this franchise for a long while and I developed such a deep hatred dor Masuda and his face at the time

Funny enough I predicted the next thing to go would be Set Mode.
Next we'll be getting a traveling companion that heals your Pokemon after every battle like in DPPt, except for the entire game.
Yeah. This is most annoying for afk money farming the academy ace tournament in Scarlet and Violet with a turbo controller. If you have more than one Pokemon with you, it will get stuck clicking into "do you want to switch => yes => this pokemon is already out => this pokemon is already out" every time. So you have to use just one, and if it ever gets defeated you'll come back to it getting repeatedly healed at the Pokecenter.
yep
I bought it, played it and never looking back now
Can't believe an indie company makes a better game than GF while they are the most profitable franchise
This, imagine not thinking Pokestar was soul incarnate
pokestar itself isn't the problem, it's the long ass forced tutorial for it that kills all the momentum of the game. R/S didn't make you mash A for 10 minutes in a forced introduction to contests, it was just something you could do if you wanted. that section in BW2 is such a drag especially on replays, and it's indicative of the design of the whole game and future games, until you get to SM where you're stopped every 5 feet for an unskippable cutscene.
it took the concept of exploded trash bag monster and did great with it without getting too graphic or artificial looking and being just the right balance of simple and detailed for plushies, fogures, and other merchandise. Come on now OP, you're complaining about Typhlosion's look in a frickin' mobile game aimed at japanese women. Literally everything is drawn cute in that game, from freaks of nature like Dialga to freaky lanky aliens like Inteleon.
I fell off pretty hard after I played Ultra Sun and realized that it was literally just Sun but worse. Gen 7 is not a game that rewards replays, and as I played through US, all the flaws of the series in general started to become more apparent.
I haven't bought a Pokemon game since, because each new game has proven more and more that GameFreak really will just do the bare minimum and make bank off it. What really clinched it for me was when I tried replaying Emerald and FireRed a few months ago. That's when the inherent flaws of the franchise really showed themselves to me. The battle system is incredibly tedious and requires zero thought, the stories are generally dull and by-the-numbers, and everything seems so stiff and sterile.
It took me a while, but as I got older and started to play other video games - especially other RPGs - I've come to realize that Pokemon was never that good to begin with. It's ability to generate brand loyalty is insane, but the products never reach anything close to full potential, and they never will.
Pokémon does have some pretty cool moments like the Red fight, but it was never that good honestly, a lot of JRPGs are better, too bad people have shit standards everywhere, especially nowadays.
After HGSS and looking onto BW is when I clued in that the games wouldn't ever really improve. Features like the Pokeathlon and Following Pokemon that should've been expanded upon were thrown away for different flavours of gimmicks essentially and the cycle keeps on repeating.
I'm aware that this wasn't the time that had started it, it's just the moment that it became apparent to me personally. I still enjoy and find value in every release, I just don't treat the franchise as something that will ever have crazy ambitions, unlike other franchises that I enjoy.
In retrospect, I can acknowledge Gen 1 and Gen 2 as being the closest to that vision and Gen 3 onwards ushering in that kind of design philosophy. I don't hate the Masuda (3-6) games, but I tend to feel more impressed about the Ohmori games (7-9) as they tend to be bolder and try to expand the concept of different kinds of Pokemon adventures further than earlier entries.
I tried to get out when I first saw advertisements for Ruby/Sapphire. Little Kid me had a fricking breakdown over the idea of catching every single pokemon again for a THIRD time with another hundred or so new mons.
I stuck with the spinoff games because it wasn't "fill pokedex, win gyms, kill evil team" all over again, there was no real rush to catch all mons, and the gameplay systems were different with PMD and Rangers.
A friend dragged me back in with Black/White but I skipped out when I saw BW2. I came back in with Arceus and Scarlet/Violet though.
I no longer give any fricks over catching them all but I did snap up the Gimmighoul Chest wifi eventmon because screw that 999 coins bullshit.
I'm still a fan, but S/V was tough to get through. I just didn't think it was very fun, and while I don't generally care as much about graphical fidelity if the gameplay is decent, the visuals and performance were bad enough that I had trouble getting invested. Also I'm a SWSH apologist, if that tells you how low my standards are. The NPCs were interesting, at least.
