When I played it for the first time. >hunts >finding espers accidentally >godlike voice acting >working out the entire gambit system >Ashe's tummy

Don't forget the music for XII. Truly the best mainline FF and thankfully more people are starting to realize thanks to the improvement Zodiac Age made.
I tried playing this for the first time last week. License boards are fun character building. Story and setting have been weak so far, feels like a jap knockoff of Phantom Menace. Gameplay is tedious as well, huge maps where you fight the same 3 enemy types.
Does it pick up at all? Just got the centaur esper, and I'm feeling kinda over it
I've tried to like it so many times but I get filtered by the combat so hard. I made it to the mines area and everything just bodies me despite the amount of effort I take to learn the gambit system. It's a shame cos the world is cool as frick
As long as you keep your gear reasonably up to date (gear matters more than levels in this game) and your gambits are mostly set to "attack nearby enemies with some healing thrown in" you won't really have any issues, if you get too good at setting gambits, the game will basically play itself
The game is good overall but frick these characters. None of them even have a backstory outside of one or two key events. Their quickening are all just random shit because the characters have no traits to make cool moves from. They don't even like each other or want anything to do with one another outside of just helping Ashe get whatever magic object she needs.
>barely has any plot (and what little there is has terrible writing) >possibly the worst main party ever seen in ANY jrpg >repetitive boring dungeons so devoid of pesonality that look like they were procedurally generated >most forgettable soundtrack in the whole franchise >"soulful"
FFXII is by several orders of magnitude the more soulless FF in the entire franchise.
FF13 and FF15 might be worse overall on content/technical grounds, but in terms of "soul" they absolutely obliterate 12.
The problem lies almost entirely with the writing. A camping trip through a somewhat simplistic setting with likeable characters is more interesting than a camping trip through a highly developed setting with cardboard cutout characters who exist to move the plot along in a dry, unadorned fashion. That's what JRPGs are, especially Final Fantasy: camping trips.
FFXII had almost no character writing. No Squall being a dork. No Rikku or Zell prancing around. No Cid telling that lazy b***h to go pour the guests some goddamn tea! The party members barely interacted at all except to decide where they were going next and why.
FFXII is in ivalice. just like FFT, FFTA and FFTA2.
FF games are soulles trash except the ones in Ivalice.
all other opinions are incorrect (and moronic)

Final Fantasy XI was and still is the most soulful Final Fantasy
>uuuuuummmmmmmm you can't beat that boss because um.....you just can't chud! Now pay the sub.
KISSSSSSS ME GOODBYEEEE
I cried.
The worst FF vocal
>The worst FF vocal
that's not Eyes on Me
Too obvious
it's a bad song that plays during a bad scene
Wrong on both counts
Probably the first time i heard this. It's so beautiful it sends me spiraling.
>FFXII
>soulful
lol no - bunch of strangers go on a fetch quest and remain strangers afterwards
the character designer and whoever was in charge of the camera really liked butts

you have to grind levels

It was also the first FF with non-binary people of color.
