When I realized it wasn't allowed in battles against other people. So probably when I was 7 or 8, in Blue or Crystal.

Yes, dumbass. I had battles with my friends when I as 5 playing Blue.

I don't X and avoid healing bench mons against other trainers (healing the active one is fair game), but I'll still whip 'em out freely on a legendary.

i only use items if i'm bumrushing the plot to start a shiny hunt on a new file or something, otherwise i never use them
i only every used revives because i got sad when my pokemon died and thought it was mean to keep them dead for longer than i needed to, i still do this in my normal games. but i never used potions or anything in battle, it felt like cheating from the start and made pokemon centers feel pointless to me.
