I get bored with this game pretty early

the main objective in the beggining is "find girl"
that's not exciting, it's not fun
In BG3 there is a long dead empire of flying squid people trying to come back and you have to find a way to free yourself, THAT keeps you going, not finding Yennefer

It's better if you read the books first. The game intentionally drops stuff on you like "butcher of bleviken" which is never explained in game but you read about it in one of the books.

Why are you playing an RPG then?
Just watch the TV show if you're illiterate.

Can you explain why it is poorly written without buzzwords? I don't think you are capable.

The problem with these types of western "narrative" games is they haven't worked out that they can do gameplay and storytelling at the same time.
Interrupting gameplay to feed the player exposition is clumsy and stupid, and it's a waste of the medium.

It's really not, the game goes against the book so frequently it'll just piss you off.

It doesn't at all though, I read the books last year and replayed all the game Thronebreaker to W3. Witcher 3 has the most call backs to the books besides Thronebreaker of course because that takes place during the 2nd or 3rd book.

Sure, references, but actually fitting into the world and story? No don't read before playing.
I guess it's fine if you're a ZOMG THAT'S THE BUTCHER type but I'm not sure you would have grasped much of the books being that easily entertained.

Everything in W3 has a lot more weight and importance if you read the books like when you meet Yennefer and the search for Ciri. Most people feel nothing when they first meet Yen in W3 without reading the books, if you did it is literally a "holy shit" kind of moment because last time you saw her you both literally fricking died.

So the games are a shitty fanfic.

Also I would say Witcher 1 is more of a turd in regards to fricking up things with continuity between the games with the whole Alvin shit.

It gets worse, so if you're already not enjoying it I'd drop it sooner than later.
Daily reminder that the Bloody Baron plotline is overrated and written pretty poorly for how many hours of cutscenes are dedicated to it.

        What's a buzzword?
Anyway, my major issues are not necessarily with the titular Baron, but the supporting cast and Geralt's lack of involvement as anything more than a therapist looking to get paid in information. Anna in particular barely even functions as a character and her story is told by a series of unreliable narrators. It's a lengthy subplot consistenting of a largely uninteresting mystery regarding events that have already occurred, which is already what the main plot is, so that doesn't help. The daughter's involvement is almost entirely irrelevant (despite the Baron's preaching) and she has no discernible character and comes off as a b***h, which rather ironically contrasts with her retinue who are largely kind and respectful. Both endings to the story are God awful and rushed, albeit one moreso than the other, I'm sure you can guess which one.
Semi-related; The Ghost in the Tree is the worst quest in the game because it has some interesting mythos built up around it (and the Witches, for that matter), but not enough questions were written to let Geralt make a calculated decision, so the aftermath comes across as even more random than the Baron's endings.
        >tl;dr
It's simultaneously too long for how simple of a story it is, but underwritten to the point that Geralt comes off like a moron and the endings and all subjects related to it feel unfinished.

I asked why it was poorly written and you give me a bunch of your subjective issues with the quest along with some points that don't even make sense.
          >the supporting cast and Geralt's lack of involvement as anything more than a therapist looking to get paid in information
This happens multiple times in the books and is the nature of Witchers, them trying to stay neutral and all. He is trying to act as a mediator for a situation he has no involvement in which will give him incredibly valuable information.
          >The daughter's involvement is almost entirely irrelevant (despite the Baron's preaching) and she has no discernible character and comes off as a b***h, which rather ironically contrasts with her retinue who are largely kind and respectful.
His daughter is irrelevant to the story? That makes no sense especially what is being told. The Baron got cucked when he was away as a soldier and then got home and became a drunk because of it and beat his own family. Along with her making a pact with the crones to get rid of the baby she was pregnant with and then miscarrying anyway when the Baron beat her. I am probably forgetting a few details but it is anything but a "simple" story. I feel underage people with minimal life experience write off the quest as insignificant. The fact that most people don't even understand or pickup on that both Anna and the Baron are at fault for different reasons, which can honestly be argued on who is at more fault, personally I think Anna is for starting the whole downward spiral. His daughter being a b***h is understandable because she probably doesn't know everything that happened which lead to all of this happening and is just taking her moms side, which happens often in real life scenarios. It isn't the greatest thing that has ever been written but it is absolutely excellent writing for a video game.

After you read the 6 books and play Witcher 1&2. Then you’ll be invested enough in the universe and know you like it enough to appreciate the series’s masterpiece ending.

I liked the DLC, and never gave a flying frick about Ciri or the interdimensional space elves with spooky helmets. However, I played so many games after Witcher 3 that were infinitely worse I now retroactively like it.

It doesn’t. It’s a movie game with a fairly boring and generic story and a one good side quest. Just beat the bloody baron quest and then quit. The game doesn’t get any better after that.
