This, I can't stand playing my switch in any capacity. I did what I said I would never do and bought a mid range laptop that can play any game, even if I need to turn down settings on super-high quality games (which I haven't even had to yet). Paid like $600 for this thing. I feel more comfortable using it around people and in public anyway. You don't look lany more out of place playing games on a laptop than you would the switch. Bonus is that I can play whatever games I want for cheap or free. Not limited to the slop nintendo has begun putting out this gen.

It hasn't. I play my DS Lite when traveling or waiting for an appointment because it fits in my pocket and the games are built and designed for it and handheld play enjoyment in general. I never wanted a "console experience" in a handheld. If I wanted a console experience, I buy the home console.

I'm mainly thinking about train or bus trips. On a plane, I just want to sleep. When I'm on public transport, it's usually peak commuting hours, packed with people, delving into a backpack to get something out is inevitably going to jostle other passengers etc.

If you are riding a train or bus somewhere (not public trans to your job or some other local place), then you probably have a bag with you and enough time to where it’s appropriate to play a video game. Phones killed portable game consoles forever, because now people are conditioned to refuse to pay for phone games unless they're microtransaction-laden trash. The Switch and Steam Deck are handhelds, not "portable", in the same way Nintendo said a Gamecube is portable because it had a handle. If I still need to drag a power cord with me to charge it, and a dock if I want to set it up on my little cousin's TV, that's not fricking portable, I might as well just bring my PS4/5.
All that being said the dude in the picture looks like he's going on a long-range trip of several hours. If that's the case I don't see the problem with setting up and getting comfortable for a long haul on a plane. If you're on a bus or the subway going to work for !25 minutes you don't need to carry around a separate game console or Steam Deck.

My OLED lasted for over 3 hours on a flight before I needed to start charging while I was playing Nier. The new switch models do pretty well with battery life. If you are regularly playing somewhere longer than 3 hours without being able to charge, then you’re the one percent of players.
