Metzen, even though he has good ideas at times, can't maintain the continuity of any story he's worked on. Warcraft 2 was a retcon of Warcraft 1, which was then retconned in Warcraft 3, which was then retconned in WoW, which was then retconned by its own expansions. The current writers there are just continuing tradition at this point.

People do M+ runs multiple times a day, even 3 million seems extremely low. So at best WoW had 500-600k players on launch that actually made it to max level and did mythic+, so a ~45% reduction on that means WoW currently has around 250k active players while classic wotlk (before people quit with LK being killed) had around 150k-200k active players. That's crazy, no wonder they're panicking by changing the concept of content release and bringing Metzen back kek'd

Despite what Ganker thinks and as sad as it is, WoW isn't actually dying. Well it is but not enough for the plug to be pulled. With every new Ukraine or Israeli tie-in mount or pet, their revenue increases. With every new reskinned store mount the whales will pay. Even if these people use Golden Tokens to pay for their sub time they just need money from MTX and they're set. WoW is asset flips, weekly server resets and mediocrity.

I seriously don't understand the people asking for WoW 2, they are already trying so hard to find ways to implement more microtransactions.. if they were to make an entirely new game they would build around microtransactions rather than adding them on-top of everything else. WoW still exists because of the boomer nostalgia for the game and their old characters, if you were to make a "WoW 2" that resets everything and started building on different lore with the current writing team, the game would literally be so trash it would become the most hated game out there in a month.
It doesn't matter what you retail players say, WoW exists because of its long history dating back to when the 90s kids were in school talking about meeting up in-game and doing a dungeon or that TBC will introduce flying to the game.. if you remove that nostalgia from players then WoW is nothing. This is why WoW 2 will never happen, because they could never in a million years live up to the hype. But let's not forget that their current model of adding a few dungeons, raids and a new area every two years is enough to make billions so why would they even bother trying.. and now they're going to instead mass produce expansions every year which was met with cheers from the retail community, so again.. why the frick would they bother with a WoW 2 that actually takes effort, the effort they don't have

What would be the point of a sequel? Who would it even be for? MMOs are a dead genre and WoW hasn't been gaining new players in a long time. It's essentially a digital retirement home, where they extract the few remaining shekels they can from their aging playerbase. A sequel would mean shuffling these seniors away from their comfortable piles of achievements and mounts, all while banking on the uncertainty of whether or not anyone would be willing to play WoW 2 for another twenty years.
