When Nintendo is struggling you can feel them throwing out all the stops to try and get back the market share especially if the hardware flopped. Whether its games or value or whatever they are desperate.
When theyre doing good they are so complacent they could not give less of a shit and coast by on the success alone.
Ape Out Shirt $21.68 |
Selling the 3DS at a loss and giving away GBA games to early adopters was pretty insane to me.
The more things change, the more they stay the same.
I'd rather Nintendo go bankrupt than license their characters out to EA again.
They only did it cause they saw how much of a success adding Link to soul calibur 2 was. Was SC2 GC even the best selling version?
>Was SC2 GC even the best selling version?
Yes, actually, and by a pretty decent margin too. To the point of pissing off Sony enough to make them moneyhat SC3 as a PS2 home-exclusive (even beating the arcade version to the punch for the first time), a move that crippled the series' momentum (especially competitively).
>I hate vidya
cool story bro
ea is poison to video games.
The Switch 2 era is going to be a very dark and terrible time for anyone who isn't a shareholder. People are not ready for just how much worse Nintendo can and will get.
that's the kind of fanfic spergs like to parrot like the zelda cycle
in reality when nintendo came up with a followup to the gamecube which was a gigantic bomb they released the wii which was a shovelware infested meme machine, but watch this shithole now pretend the wii was SOVL or whatever homosexual buzzword of their choice
>The follow up to the gamecube
>Gigantic bomb
Yeah man the Wii totally flopped and wasnt completely sold out for ages
>The Switch 2 era is going to be a very dark and terrible time for anyone who isn't a shareholder. People are not ready for just how much worse Nintendo can and will get.
Prove me wrong.
>prove me wrong about this claim that there's no way to substantiate in either direction
moron
We already just had Nintendo arbitrarily implement a same-gen price markup for a game that was a glorified expansion pack, and it sold ludicrously well. You can't possibly be naive enough to think that this wouldn't give Nintendo horrible ideas going forward.
I mean Nintendo is most likely moving to the 70 dollar price point in the next gen but looking at what Sony has cooking that's nothing.
>but other guy!
And what do you think is going to happen if SONY gets away with that jump to $80-100?
What do you propose we do smart guy? If the companies decide those are the price tags we either sail the seas or do without, there isn't shit we as consumers can do to apply the brakes to this hellbound train we're on.
>Nintendo is a registered trademark of Nintendo
The only reason i own Game&Wario is because of the Club Nintendo deal which current Nintendo would never do again. They were on such hard times they were giving away Wii U games practically.
struggling nintendo just shits out a bunch of mario game
on top nintendo we actually get other types of games
Struggle nintendo gave us multiple godly Metroid games in the span of a few years while at their height you got dog shit like Other M and Fed Force.
fed force came out during wiiu time moron
we got Dread during switch dominance
3DS was still doing well in 2016 and Fed Force had Tanabe himself be on a direct to beg Metroid fans to play it because its a "mainline" Prime entry.
>2016, wii u era
>their height
Maybe the old Nintendo was like that. They didn't even try to get people to buy a Wii U, they pretty much just abandoned ship after year 2
Bayo 2 set the internet on fire because people got pissed it was Wii U exclusive. Of course they tried.
Or you know splatoon 1 which was a massive reason to buy a wii u and its why splatoon is still going despite wii u's failure.
Bayo was years away and Splatoon was the tail end. Remember they launched the system with a fricking New Super Mario game. In the same year they had another New Super Mario game. And the next year their big holiday release was New Super Mario in 3D.
The E3 that showed splatoon was when they first did Treehouse Live im pretty sure and it convinced people more to buy a Wii U than not.
I'm not saying they didn't try at all. I'm just saying they tried harder with the Gamecube
mario maker is the biggest one imo. that's the kind of crazy innovation that only comes from being in last, mario maker 2 was legit worse too.
The 1st game is innovative, intuitive to play and gave value to amiibo with the costumes. The amiibo push in general on Wii U is proof nintendo wanted your money to justify plastic.
Ultra Smash is a horrible game but it let you train your amiibo and use them ONLINE in doubles matches which no other mario sports game lets you do that now.
in what way was 2015 nintendo throwing out all the stops
That was their worst E3 no contest especially because Iwata was dying they probably had no clue what to do internally. E3 2008 was pretty bad too but that was just arrogant nintendo pandering to casuals who made them money.
Also, at least with 2008, that was the Wii era, which still had a couple years of gas left in the tank. E3 2015, though? You could fricking TELL by then that Nintendo had basically given up on the WiiU.
Amiibo Festival is maybe the biggest E3 blunder of all time aside from 599 US Dollars
more like throwing out all the slops
Struggle nintendo in this context doesnt have to mean when the console is on its last legs only.
Smash 4 gave you Mewtwo for free for buying both versions, you were getting free games via Club Nintendo still and the Wii U eshop sold you Wii games at a reduced price especially on launch day.
I got Prime Trilogy for 10 fricking dollars thats nintendo throwing out all the stops.
>Mewtwo for free for buying both versions
Kek this was not a bargain in any way shape or form, especially not for a returning character
Ok so you redeemed both versions of Smash for platinum coins to get free stuff including 3DS apps or games. Still better than what you can do with them on MyNintendo.
NBA Street v3 felt like shit to play compared to v2.
Nintendo hasn't "thrown all the stops" since the GC or the Wii. They make good games, a few of them are industry defining or at least great, some are awful like that animal crossing party game, they rarely bring back old favorites, and they stop supporting their consoles whether they're successful or not.
Wii was not a failed system and it really fell off after the casual crowd left which is why it looked so dire during 2010-2011.
People saying they didnt try on Wii U are moronic, WIi U still has a better virtual console than Switch with a broader selection and lets you actually fricking remap the controls. Not defending the terrible emulation itself but it was more robust because they WERE desperate for money.
>they didn't try on Wii U are moronic
but they didn't even try
they had a gamecube controller usb hub and didnt implement gc vc
To be fair they didn't do that for NSO either
The E-reader content in mario advance 4 was from wii u. Not to mention DS which i doubt will ever be on Switch. Earthbound was also treated as a major release and it selling well is why we even got Beginnings.
that hub was pretty much specifically for melee autists. they made them in limited quantities and they knew that they would sell all of them no matter what. it's not that they didn't try, it's that they tried exactly what they knew would work, and they were right. no normie would have ever bought one of those.
Yeah and NSO has N64 games with no save pak or transfer pak support whats your point. The button remapping is bad enough having to be system wide.
That always happens, whichever console is on top coasts until someone else tries hard enough to dethrone them. It's just not as bad as it used to be because before everything was multiplat, that meant whoever was on top also got all the third party exclusives.
they basically let the wii u die its last year and a half
