When people talk about how much better CRTs are for old games. Why do they always bring up those damn waterfalls in Sonic, and never just how much better super scaler style effects look on these displays.

because it's a good and easily accessible visual example
moron
So is the parallax scrolling that almost creates a 3D like effect in the background of Sonic.
That's not a crt effect, it's an effect from composite and RF cables. If you use component cables on crt, you don't get the transparencies.
So is that image used as a counter argument to gays that mod their consoles to output non-native signals? Since the effect was designed to and only works with those output signals?
Because it's a good example from probably one of the most popular retro games in existence
Because they, like most people obsessed with minutiae in retro games, don’t actually play games. They boot Sonic up, stare at the waterfall for 30 seconds, then turn it off and wonder why the light in their life is gone.
The person playing games on some shitty handheld with a blown out aspect ratio and fricked up graphics who is none the wiser is undoubtedly having way more fun, and beating way more games, than anyone obsessed with CRTs, real hardware vs emulation, “you didn’t beat the game,” etc.
It’s talking about playing games versus playing games, similar to how women talk about having hobbies but don’t have any
ray of sunshine ova here
kek, shitting on the handheld thread posters for being moronic
>making up reasons to be mad
woman behavior
How am I mad I just stated something, do you feel attacked?
Zoomers like him have no concept of saying a long string of words without there being some kind of ulterior motive behind it (i.e trolling, u mad bro, or dramatic call-out post)
>How am I mad
Beats me, but you sure went on for a while about a scenario you made up in your head about people you clearly don't like.
If you're not mad, then you're a schizophrenic.
Just like this guy
You can't as easily represent an effect that relies on motion. The waterfall may be overdone, but it's easy to show.
Your point is legit. It can't be said about every hobby.
4pbp
This. People obsessed with playing a game "the right way" ironically don't actually play games. It's like they have those "perfect and authentic" setups and hardware literally just "to own"
Absolutely correct. every eceleb /vr/oomers are obsessed with don’t actually play games. They shill for a scaler, mod, or chink machine and show off the first 10 seconds of a game. You can tell they never played these games for more than 10 seconds by how awful they are. Saw some guy play smb3, miss the mushroom, and walk without holding b. It’s even more apparent when someone has never played a sonic game past the first stage.
Fuming morons who are seething
samegay
Nah u r
not me
>morons
They're all the same person. They didn't even alter their typing style.
>muh typing style! btfo
I agree but if youre not on a crt it's worse and if you use save states you didnt beat it. Yes, there is value in playing and not beating. You still didn't beat it
This is a very racist, gatekeepy, and out dated stance on retro video games.
What is your opinion on early PS2 games, say Final Fantasy X. Should these be played on CRT as well ideally?
Yes:
>composite on a CRT is basically a form of free anti-aliasing
>many PS2 games use low colour depth
>it looks pretty
yes I did
cool it with the antisemitism, incel.
YUP, most fun gaming experience of my life was playing FFVII on epsxe with random shitty settings, I just wanted to run the damn game and have good audio. the graphics looked much worse than playing the game on an actual PS1 would but it added to the magic of MY PERSONAL FRICKING JOURNEY which is what Final Fantasy is all about.
Agreed. But save states still suck.
>The best argument for composite over RGB, is a game on the console with the shittiest composite implementation in history. It was so awful that SEGA complained it ended up making MegaDrive games look worse than PC-Engine ones.
Really gets the mind jogging.
Is Genesis composite worse than Master System Composite?
I had a Master System years ago and remember them both being the same bad.
did master system even have composite?
I thought it was RF only?
That's only the model 2 Master System
I'll tell you what the real CRT meme is. "Motion clarity". You always see gays posting some comparison with the UFO to show how great the motion clarity is, but is that what your television in the 90's looked like? Unless you had some BVM none of you actually played games on, hell fricking no; your 90's set had afterglow up the arse. The biggest proof is the flickering shadows in fighting games; they would appear transparent on the TV's of the day.
I don't think you know what motion clarity is if you think a trail on black is the same
>zoomer moron has no concept of difference between PC monitor and consumer television
lurk for 7 more years as punishment
Fantastic, now please remove your argument from discussing console games
nearly all concievable console games have either been originally releaded on PC or ported to PC posthumously. shit tier argument. if we can all argue endlessly about which console is superior, we can also all discuss PC
For the same reason you're complaining about people making those threads: Guaranteed Replies
It's a meme at this point. Poorgays seethe they can't afford hardware. Counter-culture zooms cry that they did/didn't miss out and post some kind of bait. Coomlectors love to gloat (like that homosexual and his star fox cart). Everybody else, the silent/quiet majority, either emulate or play on original hardware and don't care.
the sad thing is getting the "accurate waterfalls" means putting your system on shit visual cables overall, effectively compromising your experience in other ways
There is actually a solution. PAL60. PAL color gives just enough blending to make dithering work, whilst still being sharp enough to rival RGB.
Works fine on my machine
i think it's pretty obvious
it's more noticeable
both of these look like shit. what is this supposed to prove?
one is default and the other is improves blending with mesh and dithering
remember to always view crt shader screenshots in a new tab at 100% zoom or you will get something resembling the moire effect
>improves
we'll agree to disagree
It just does when it comes to dithering and mesh effects. Also, adjusting the shader parameters to better match your display greatly helps, so it's hard to showcase presets as the user sees them, but the blending is still noticeable.
It's an easy example, but also that's also partially because of the Mega Drive's video output creating jailbars. Ultimately, it's imperfections that make the authentic vidya experience. You really don't need anything beyond your choice of inputs and any consumer CRT
