2009 i think? I had just gotten a ps triple but it had no backwards compatibility and no games and i was in the middle of both a kingdom hearts 1 and ape escape 3 playthrough, so i kept playing on the "old" sony tube dad moved to the basement, cant remember the exact model but it was this giant black beast with a subwoofer in the back, games looked crisp as frick despite me using composite cables. Unfortunately i threw it away after moving to the basement because it was huge and i didn't need it anymore.

    I genuinely miss that TV.

Early 2000's (2002, maybe? couldn't have been much later) when the 3 of us actually competent at computer shit from the programming class help set up the new computer lab in school which swapped everything over to flat screens.

At home probably like 1992 because the moment the Gameboy was a thing I essentially never bothered with a knock off PC again. Mom could keep her Astrosmash and shit all to herself.

I just picked up the time machine (Epoch, iirc?) in my first playthrough of Chrono Trigger the other day. Fed the SNES audio lines into my old X-rocker, too, for the best nostalgic stereo audio experience. Shit is cash except for some niggling geometry issues on my flatscreen CRT. I try to keep my eyes open for good curved tubes at garage sales and such locally, but haven't found one yet that is an improvement without some other issue (lack of inputs, color spots, unbreakable hotel system locks, jittery picture, etc.). What I wouldn't give for just one manufacturer to leverage modern technology to build a "perfect" new CRT at an affordable cost, but I guess the invisible hand has decided there isn't enough of a market for it now.

CRTs are stupid expensive to make and to ship, even with modern technology. Flatscreens were almost as cheap from the point of their invention, and are infinitely cheaper now, mostly because you don't have to haul 20 kilo compact particle accelerator to other continents.
If somebody would produce CRTs, it wouldn't be on a large scale, which would mean that they will be obscenely expensive.

        > CRTs are stupid expensive to make and to ship
That is not really true. 14inch CRTs were £50 and you could get 20inch tvs for £99. It took years for LCDs to come anywhere close to that, and even now adjusted for inflation LCDs are not cheaper.

Double player Halo all night long at my pothead friend's apartment, probably 2003-2005. He'd get in a lot of trouble, and one time the police came knocking and inspected everything and wanted my ID. Everything reeked like weed but they didn't find anything (he hid it in his speakers). AFAIK he's now straightened out and owns his own general contractor company and owns various digging/construction machines and a big rig, like his father.

    Thanks for reading my blog
