But when will it be Baldur's Gate 3's turn to get put in a bad light for all its flaws? I sincerely believe this game is an overblown mid-tier release that is being praised to high heavens because everyone hates XBOX for some reason.

It's arguably worse than that, your character technically has no gender. You choose body type, genitals, voice and pronouns independently of each other so the game doesn't have a way to tell what gender you're supposed to be, which means that every romanceable npc has to be cool with any combination you pick. It's a very bizarre situation resulting from the insanity we're living through.
If characters had preferences it would be the first thing to be modded out. Nobody wants cp2077 relationship type shit where game announces you've chosen wrong in character creator if you wanted to romance this npc 30 hours in
I bet you whatever you want that were things different (i.e you can only date specific NPCs based on your gender) you'd b***h that you can't frick anyone you want in one playthrough and mods would be made to make it the way vanilla BG3 is now. Shut up.

It's because D&D 5e went mainstream. 5th Edition is nearly 10 years old now but you really only started to see the wrong kind of people latch onto it in the last five or so, and Wizards of the Coast supports that crowd in official material now too, including BG3.
One of the adventure modules is literally a ripoff of Hogwarts with built-in rules for Persona-esque dating mechanics. Romanceable NPCs is a big selling point for the new "fans", I guess.
