Even in Magic, mill and burn aren't exactly their own archetypes, they're just sub+categories within control and aggro respectively since all mill decks are control decks, and all burn decks are aggro decks. Even though it IS possible to do a Conbo deck that's burn or mill. It's similar in Yu-Gi-Oh.ntg only real viable mill deck, Runick, is control. And most burn decks like Time Lord, are control. In fact, ever since Stealth Bird Gravity Bind back in the day, Burn has always been control. Even though combo and FTK variants like Red-Eyes Dragon Link and Trickstar exist. The fact that most burn effects happen in response to your opponent DOING something, means they're Control. And Aggro burn in Yu-Gi-Oh will never be a thing cause it'd be way too powerful.

No it's because of the way damage works. Unlike MtG, all damage goes to the face. Your "aggro burn" can't work in YGO because I can't bolt the bird or bolt your face, I can only bolt your face. Volcanics are the closest thing (lots of little guys that inflict minor burn with a few big guys) but overall things like Serial Spell burn or Rapid Fire Mage just don't work.

It's not 'latching onto it', the whole point is to sell Yu-Gi-Oh! to kids since they haven't been buying cardboard for years now. The idea is to get them into the franchise through Rush and then shuffle them over to the OCG when they get older. If they're successful at that or not is another story but getting children into the franchise is important for it's longevity.

I think Yugioh will always have staples but they really should phase out generic hand traps just because they're a card from a hidden information zone that the game tries very hard to avoid you interacting with. Getting torrential'd or mirror force'd is telegraphed and carries appropriate risk since backrow removal or generic pops are fairly common in modern Yugioh, but targeted hand removal almost always gets banned out.
There's also something to be said about the information economy of generic hand traps. Like if you get imperm'd or ash'd your opponent doesn't know what kind of deck you're playing, but if they drop a Havnis you have a pretty good idea and can route your combos accordingly. You're getting a powerful interaction from a protected zone in exchange for telling your opponent in broad strokes what your strategy is. That to me seems a more fair trade.

I'd like more archetypal hand traps just to spice the game up a bit, but getting rid of the generics will just mean that the decks that Konami doesn't like will go from not very good to absolutely unplayable.
It's the decks that have no room for a ton of staples that need in-archetype hand traps the most. Things that can pull double duty as a hand trap or as an engine piece, even if it's just by virtue of being a monster with the archetype's name.

Right but I mean proactively. So for instance if your opponent has a set card that you assume will interrupt your plays (Imperm, droplet, etc) you can make Knightmare Phoenix or something before continuing. You can guess if your opponent has a hand trap (And this is trivially easy on Master Duel) but there's no equivalent play. And there really shouldn't be, targeted handripping is cancerous.
More to the second point, I'm surprised Konami hasn't printed more archetypal hand traps as support for lower powered archetypes. They're strong for exactly the reasons you say. Look at something like Rex for Fur Hires. In addition to being a combo starter (Any Rex+body on board is full Fur Hire combo) the graveyard effect can act as disruption by QE triggering Fur Hire effects on the opponent's turn. Mercourier in Branded is nice because in addition to acting as interruption you can also banish it with a bystial/BIR for a search. I feel like they're moving towards this design philosophy but I just wish they'd move faster.

The point of the deck is to turn 1 summon an invincible Tenyi with Masquerina. That guy you posted while good might be a brick for me because you go -1 with him.
I also know about the brother of Tenma but that guy is a brick in my deck too because he only SS’s light monsters and all my shit is Earth, I only have 2 Tenmas because he can be a brick because he can’t summon himself. I’m still working on this deck, I just assembled it on Master Duel and am tinkering with it. Last time I found a card to add was that mini-Battleguard guy that searches that Level 5 summoning card which is the crux of the deck.
I set out to make a deck, I didn’t care what it ended up being, using what at the time I considered the worst cards in the game, old LOB level 5 normals with like 1400 attack like Sandstone and shit.
With Ultra Poly I ended up turning it into some mediocre Tenyi/Avramax turbo deck or some shit.

There's no good time unless you can look into their hand. You can wait until they have Grapha/Reignbow in the GY so they can't use their effect to return the guy on field, you can try hitting the continuous/field and hope they needed them to unbrick, you can hold Ash for Card Destruction and hope they don't go into Apollousa/Fusion Grapha first. There's no telling what will actually work.

Nah, it's fine. I don't see why you'd need to. Nothing about MD would change whether you have Tears or not. Even if they kill them, you'll still be crying about the NEXT meta deck. Like you did for Branded, and Swordsoul, and Drytron, etc ...
It's going to come pre-hit. If their intention was to release Kash only to ban it out of the game, then they wouldn't have bothered. It's similar to Tearlaments, and why you're not going to see a Kitkallos ban unless they absolutely have to. Think back to VFD. That bigger was legal in MD for a very long time until it was clear they HAD to ban it. And it's not cause VW VFD was Tier 1 or anything. It's cause it was absolutely toxic and unfun with little to no counterplay. It's not like VW without VFD stopped functioning either. The deck still plays as intended to this day.
You'll only be seeing bans to Tears and Kash if they realize they can't reel the decks in with wrist slaps. And the fact that they took a Tier 0 deck and brought it down to sub 25% usage in MD tells me you won't be seeing any bans to those decks for a very long time.
Lifepoint gain cards in Yugioh just aren't good enough and aren't loopable enough. You could probably pull some kind of primal seed infinite LP gain loop, but you'd time out before gaining enough life to seriously deter someone. In paper play they do let you show a loop once before skipping to a gamestate with an arbitrary number of loops performed, but Master Duel's timer is your constraint more than anything.
And really, if you're doing a Primal Seed loop it's way easier to just OTK your opponent with a burn spell.
If you gain 100k LP I will simply build a board that deals 15k damage every turn and shuts you out of the game to ensure I can swing for 10k+ damage every turn because you wasted resources on gaining LP instead of using them to stop me from doing that.
I had someone drop Spooky Dogwood on me once and just laughed at them throwing a card in the GY and then gave them 25k LP. They scooped after a couple turns because they got out-advantaged.
LP gain can be a real win condition in real life play for game 2/3 because time rules are moronic.

Becoming "Floodgate turbo" really is the saddest fate for any pet deck. It can be alright for decks that were already a slower control style originally, like Weather Painters, but Crystal Beasts was about building up to a big cool boss monster and now it's best build is "I activate Necrovalley and Crystal Miracle/Conclave". I did the same last night with a suicide deck, and would burn myself to 800 LP with nothing in hand, and a GY full of toon table of contents and a field of 3 Chain Energy and 2 Toon Worlds, and they'd rather spend 10 minutes burning themself down to 3k LP to remove all my Chain Energies and Toon Worlds over a couple turns rather than just normal summoning and attacking.
I had I think one person in the 10 games I played who didn't combo off as slowly as possible and instead just killed me.

Master Duel keeps track of all the annoying effects for me, I don't have to deal with fat, sweaty, smelly nerds and I don't have to actually buy cards. Master Duel is just a straight upgrade over paper play.
Buying the cards is just the first expensive that Master Duel doesn't make you put up with. You also need deck boxes, trade binders, sleeves, playmats and bulk storage. Actual card games are way more expensive than just playing Master Duel for free.
I used to think that Zone Locking was gay, but when I found out that it fricked over Pendulums especially hard I realized that it was ridiculously based. Now I can't wait to pull for and play Kashtira.

They raised the amount of wins needed to rank up in gold, so if you're only doing a game a day other than when the event is up then it's not hard to stay in Gold even with the inability to rank down.

A lot of people will actually just play anything. I took a screengrab of pic related because I remember playing an Eldlich game briefly before the dude dropped Branded Fusion out of nowhere. Note also, 56 card deck but no space for N/Rs like BIR, Ad Lib, Retribution, or anything like that. There's no real point in reasoning with certain decklists, because you'd be putting way more thought into it than the pilot.

Both mill and burn are simply alt wincons, and can be considered control.
Even in Magic, mill and burn aren't exactly their own archetypes, they're just sub+categories within control and aggro respectively since all mill decks are control decks, and all burn decks are aggro decks. Even though it IS possible to do a Conbo deck that's burn or mill. It's similar in Yu-Gi-Oh.ntg only real viable mill deck, Runick, is control. And most burn decks like Time Lord, are control. In fact, ever since Stealth Bird Gravity Bind back in the day, Burn has always been control. Even though combo and FTK variants like Red-Eyes Dragon Link and Trickstar exist. The fact that most burn effects happen in response to your opponent DOING something, means they're Control. And Aggro burn in Yu-Gi-Oh will never be a thing cause it'd be way too powerful.

No it's because of the way damage works. Unlike MtG, all damage goes to the face. Your "aggro burn" can't work in YGO because I can't bolt the bird or bolt your face, I can only bolt your face. Volcanics are the closest thing (lots of little guys that inflict minor burn with a few big guys) but overall things like Serial Spell burn or Rapid Fire Mage just don't work.

It's not 'latching onto it', the whole point is to sell Yu-Gi-Oh! to kids since they haven't been buying cardboard for years now. The idea is to get them into the franchise through Rush and then shuffle them over to the OCG when they get older. If they're successful at that or not is another story but getting children into the franchise is important for it's longevity.
They could have simply fixed the game.
Just rebooting DM/the game and using keywords in cards would make it 10 times easier to young people to join.

I think you're overestimating childrens attention span and how easily they'll drop something if they get bored. There's this infamous story where Xyz went over badly with children in Japan at the time of release when they bought cards because of the Zexal anime but when they learned the Numbers rule wasn't real they dropped it.

I think Yugioh will always have staples but they really should phase out generic hand traps just because they're a card from a hidden information zone that the game tries very hard to avoid you interacting with. Getting torrential'd or mirror force'd is telegraphed and carries appropriate risk since backrow removal or generic pops are fairly common in modern Yugioh, but targeted hand removal almost always gets banned out.
There's also something to be said about the information economy of generic hand traps. Like if you get imperm'd or ash'd your opponent doesn't know what kind of deck you're playing, but if they drop a Havnis you have a pretty good idea and can route your combos accordingly. You're getting a powerful interaction from a protected zone in exchange for telling your opponent in broad strokes what your strategy is. That to me seems a more fair trade.

I'd like more archetypal hand traps just to spice the game up a bit, but getting rid of the generics will just mean that the decks that Konami doesn't like will go from not very good to absolutely unplayable.
It's the decks that have no room for a ton of staples that need in-archetype hand traps the most. Things that can pull double duty as a hand trap or as an engine piece, even if it's just by virtue of being a monster with the archetype's name.

Right but I mean proactively. So for instance if your opponent has a set card that you assume will interrupt your plays (Imperm, droplet, etc) you can make Knightmare Phoenix or something before continuing. You can guess if your opponent has a hand trap (And this is trivially easy on Master Duel) but there's no equivalent play. And there really shouldn't be, targeted handripping is cancerous.
More to the second point, I'm surprised Konami hasn't printed more archetypal hand traps as support for lower powered archetypes. They're strong for exactly the reasons you say. Look at something like Rex for Fur Hires. In addition to being a combo starter (Any Rex+body on board is full Fur Hire combo) the graveyard effect can act as disruption by QE triggering Fur Hire effects on the opponent's turn. Mercourier in Branded is nice because in addition to acting as interruption you can also banish it with a bystial/BIR for a search. I feel like they're moving towards this design philosophy but I just wish they'd move faster.

The point of the deck is to turn 1 summon an invincible Tenyi with Masquerina. That guy you posted while good might be a brick for me because you go -1 with him.
I also know about the brother of Tenma but that guy is a brick in my deck too because he only SS’s light monsters and all my shit is Earth, I only have 2 Tenmas because he can be a brick because he can’t summon himself. I’m still working on this deck, I just assembled it on Master Duel and am tinkering with it. Last time I found a card to add was that mini-Battleguard guy that searches that Level 5 summoning card which is the crux of the deck.
I set out to make a deck, I didn’t care what it ended up being, using what at the time I considered the worst cards in the game, old LOB level 5 normals with like 1400 attack like Sandstone and shit.
With Ultra Poly I ended up turning it into some mediocre Tenyi/Avramax turbo deck or some shit.
Cyber Tutubon is probably my most important main deck monster.
I don’t know if you’re going to be doing stupid shit like me and running Normals but if you are you need Cosmo Brain.

There's no good time unless you can look into their hand. You can wait until they have Grapha/Reignbow in the GY so they can't use their effect to return the guy on field, you can try hitting the continuous/field and hope they needed them to unbrick, you can hold Ash for Card Destruction and hope they don't go into Apollousa/Fusion Grapha first. There's no telling what will actually work.

It's going to come pre-hit. If their intention was to release Kash only to ban it out of the game, then they wouldn't have bothered. It's similar to Tearlaments, and why you're not going to see a Kitkallos ban unless they absolutely have to. Think back to VFD. That bigger was legal in MD for a very long time until it was clear they HAD to ban it. And it's not cause VW VFD was Tier 1 or anything. It's cause it was absolutely toxic and unfun with little to no counterplay. It's not like VW without VFD stopped functioning either. The deck still plays as intended to this day.
You'll only be seeing bans to Tears and Kash if they realize they can't reel the decks in with wrist slaps. And the fact that they took a Tier 0 deck and brought it down to sub 25% usage in MD tells me you won't be seeing any bans to those decks for a very long time.
They'll ban Tears when it stops making money. Don't kid yourself on them actually caring about balance unless the deck is cheap to build like Floo.

Lifepoint gain cards in Yugioh just aren't good enough and aren't loopable enough. You could probably pull some kind of primal seed infinite LP gain loop, but you'd time out before gaining enough life to seriously deter someone. In paper play they do let you show a loop once before skipping to a gamestate with an arbitrary number of loops performed, but Master Duel's timer is your constraint more than anything.
And really, if you're doing a Primal Seed loop it's way easier to just OTK your opponent with a burn spell.
I remember seeing an infinite loop LP gain with Rainbow Life and Colossal Fighter but I have no idea if you can build a deck around it
If you gain 100k LP I will simply build a board that deals 15k damage every turn and shuts you out of the game to ensure I can swing for 10k+ damage every turn because you wasted resources on gaining LP instead of using them to stop me from doing that.
I had someone drop Spooky Dogwood on me once and just laughed at them throwing a card in the GY and then gave them 25k LP. They scooped after a couple turns because they got out-advantaged.
LP gain can be a real win condition in real life play for game 2/3 because time rules are moronic.

Yeah they're all or nothing. Also they can be ashed, which can be game ending. Honestly they're not very good but I still think they're fun. I run Picofalena to get the babies back from the GY and into the deck if necessary but it hasn't come up since the duel is usually over by then.

Master Duel keeps track of all the annoying effects for me, I don't have to deal with fat, sweaty, smelly nerds and I don't have to actually buy cards. Master Duel is just a straight upgrade over paper play.
Buying the cards is just the first expensive that Master Duel doesn't make you put up with. You also need deck boxes, trade binders, sleeves, playmats and bulk storage. Actual card games are way more expensive than just playing Master Duel for free.
