Maybe if they didn't make literally enemy a fricking boulder with 9001% poise that can just interrupt my combo at will even without even an Unblockable. At least Malenia had low poise and got bodied by my Giant Hunt GS.

The game sold well and got a years worth of content and updates with 3 dlcs. I think for being a B team game as the A works on ronin, it did very well and if you like the gameplay there’s plenty of it for you

Nioh 1 bosses were stupid because as soon as they enter living weapon mode, they are basically unstaggerable and spam ability at you and you can only stall and poke until their ki bar run out (it deplete slowly in LW mode) and get the last hit in to put them in ki-less exhaustion. In higher difficulty, they basically enter living weapon constantly
I don't mind that, that's what your LW does too, I like games when the enemies and the player have to play by the same rules

Nioh 2 still brings such a significant improvement to weapons movesets and skills that it's really hard to play Nioh 1.
Nioh 1 has much more bullshit boss but let you have way to bullshit the boss as well. Nioh 2 is somewhat more mechanically "fair" on both side

If I remember right 2kat one parry that has a more generous window but goes into a knock down and one that has tight window, but leave opponent standing, which allow for a potential high damage burst follow up.

New team ninja game like nioh and stranger of paradise have some of the greatest action game mechanics out there. Tbh, they are somewhat built from the base of ninja gaiden in the first place and add more mechanics on top of it. However, the rpg mechanic kinda filters out the action purist. I like both genre so I feel like the rpg compliment the action gameplay well and let you customize and optimize your playstyle the way you like
rpg elements add nothing but tedium, if you want to "customize your playstyle" just add more playable characters

The class/weapons system in Stranger of Paradise is insane. There were so many potential playstyle there. The combat mechanic is so satisfying and basically combine some of the best mechanics in the genre.
I dont want many potential playstyles I want one to three ways to play and for the game to be made around them, thats how you get tightness and perfection.

this is a great webm but playing the game is way more annoying of an experience. say what you will about the faults of the lock on, but i never felt like an enemy got a cheap hit on me in either nioh. im three levels deep into the first ninja gaiden and its already frustrating in so many ways from enemies hitting you because you cant see them due to the camera to getting stunlocked and losing all my healing items because of trying to remedy it. its just a lot less balanced, satisfying, fair, and much more janky. oh and the hitboxes make dark souls 1 look like a masterpiece
Yea, enemies are really cheap in ninja gaiden and you basically just use cheap tactics against them as much as you can get as well. Yea, it can look nice in webm but in practice, you cheese enemies in the most optimal way or they grab you with unreactable grab that track extremely well.
thats the first time someone has agreed with me on Ganker. i want to like ninja gaiden. as it stands, though, it feels like it could have made for a masterpiece with a decent remake, but the og is just so flawed. it makes me a bit mad playing it just because i see so much potential. i just tried playing medievil and it had basically the same issues. a bad camera and too much cheesing enemies just gets unenjoyable way too quickly. gonna keep trying with ng1, but i dont see it completely reshaping my view or anything during the playthrough. i can confidently say that nioh has spoiled me with what i got out of both games, no matter how many cool webms i see of ninja gaiden
You should give stranger of paradise a try. Imo, the combat system is extremely refined as well and they kinda incorporate defense/parry in a very interesting way as well
i'll probably try it at some point. the story looks rough, but team ninja were never great to me in terms of plot before so it would be fine if they drop the ball there. if it has cool combat that's all i really need. thanks for the recommendation
I like how the last enemy blocked an attack in the middle of a combo despite being FACE DOWN LYING ON THE GROUND. that's what this overrated shit series truly is. enemies just do what they want and more than half of your moveset is wasted. sure, you can make a fancy theatrical clip like this on low difficulty against the weakest grunts available, but try that on harder levels and whoops the game instantly turns into shit when you're forced into 2-attack patterns spamming away the only thing that works consistently so enemies don't dodge roll randomly and use unavoidable grabs if you dared to try a move.
The only good Team Ninja games were Nioh 1&2, Ninja Gaiden is dogshit, the company is irrelevant now and likely will cease to exist after their next game.

They didn’t lose per se, but it was going to be a lot of work restoring it. They were also working on Stranger of Paradise, Wo Long, and Rise of the Ronin during those times.
I’m not saying it’s happening but when Team Ninja asked for what would fans want in a future Ninja Gaiden game, I sent them a google doc outline of what I wanted as I couldn’t fit it under the character limit. It seems to be visited every few months.

I'm one of those people who likes the loot and build autism in their games, but would still prefer if the gameplay worked more like traditional 3D action games than souls. No lock on, fighting multiple enemies at the same time, large HP bar instead of dying in 2 hits but having 10 refillable HP potions, etc.

Yes, in Ninja Gaiden, defense is as important as offense. You should always be blocking when you're not attacking.
No if you block a lot enemies just grab you. It's a mix of blocking, dodging and throwing shit at them and you have to learn it by trial and error.
-Unless you're attacking you should be holding down the block button pretty much at all times
-Learn what the OP moves are and spam those
