Dune is about to be the next the star wars if they can close out strong with the third movie. The director has already said he wants to make the second book.
I watched the second movie yesterday but never read the books, do the first two movies adapt the whole first book or is the war against the other families also included in that?

The third movie will be an adaptation of Messiah, which is like the ROTS of Dune.
First book ends after securing being emporeror. I'm wonder how far they'll time skip, but they have chani doing the girl stronk shit so it will be weird. His sister is supposed to already be like 10 or something at the end of the first book. Chani was supposed to already have been knocked up too. But that kid was just adding another reason to hate the harkonens because he was killed.
No the houses plot mostly fall by the wayside and are assumed allied or conquered during the jihad between the first and second book with the exception of Corrino given its ongoing plot relevance to the Emperor's family. You have characters affiliated the other houses pop in and out until Leto II abolishes the houses in book 4.
The second book begins at a point where billions are dead already in the jihad.
I feel like they could do the first three books. Book four wouldn't make for a good movie because it's esoteric and a lot of character introspection but it was real interesting to me. Warhammer 40k borrows the main plot points of book four in that the current emperor see's humanity's demise in its distant future and takes the necessary steps (golden path) to prepare humanity for it.

Dune really is one of those franchises where it would be best to make your own char since Paul's arc is pretty much perfect and I wouldn't trust anyone to frick with the lore or add retroactive shit like idk a Conan the Barbarian story
Plus you could make the story much earlier which explores how Harkonnen and Atreides went from friends to enemies

I think they handwaved his disappearance with Gurney's line about sending the Atreides survivors off world. A shame but having his plotline shown would mean juggling Paul's life with the Fremen and Thuffir Hawat resisting the Harkonnens while he's their prisoner.

Laser/shield explosion isnt as guaranteed as they are in board games though. Irrc there are varied reaction with shields fizzling out, or laser riffle getting overloaded, or laser and shield reacting in nuclear reaction. Now using it for suicide runs would be quite viable (iirc fremen hyjacked sardaukar ship and used it for suicide attacks in 1st book), landsraad however doesn't care if you used atomics or your shields reacted so, your house/forces will get wiped out by unified imperium either way, so everyone takes great care not to cause nuclear explosions as battle tactic.

I really like the Dune 2000 OST as well, especially the Harkonnen titles. Frank said he worked on those most diligently since he thought Harkonnen to be the coolest house.

Weirdly I feel Atreides has the weakest OST despite Frank usually being great, at least when contrasted with the two other factions. Just felt like he didn't put much effort in at all.
