It stopped being about Nazi zombies and started being about stupid magic time traveling bullshit
Basically they took a interesting concept and turned it into generic fantasy frickery
Also it didn't get its own game.
well black ops 3 had its own zombie campaign which was just the base campaign but with a zombie plot. Thought the story was moronic and overly pretentious
The only thing wrong with it is that it’s a tacked on feature all this time down the road when it could be a full release with the amount of stupid shit they’re always doing to it
It moved away from being "hold out as long as you can" to doing moronic easter egg for some stupid ass lore about multiverse eldricht monster with the maps and systems moving away from being designed for survival.
Seriously. Running through the levels each time starting with a pistol got stale as shit since it always ended with rng and running around the map at around round 20.
Instead of introducing new mechanics like allowing you to keep your load out, use killstreaks, new perks, telling the story through surviving rounds rather than Easter eggs.
>Instead of introducing new mechanics like allowing you to keep your load out, use killstreaks, new perks, telling the story through surviving rounds rather than Easter eggs
but that's exactly what they did
I'd say at Moon when they felt they needed to end the storyline in a way that future games couldn't ignore it, they should have just been implied to have gone down fighting on the Moon base and not blown up the fricking planet. Zombies would have been better if the story was still just bits and pieces of loading screens and intros telling you how and why the characters are at that map. Also I'm STILL waiting for the Green Run remake, now that the games aren't held back by shit hardware.
>it's 2018 >battle royales popping off >pubg, fortnite most played games >activision spots potential >blackout.jpg >zombies gets budget cut >bo4 comes out >half the maps are remasters >dogshit UI, ridiculous easter eggs, new storyline falls flat >ultimus story ends with the tranzit crew, godawful ending >fast forward to 2020 >cold war comes out >looks promising >ONE map at release >overpowered weapons, killstreaks, unlimited perks >boring.jpg >new maps fall flat >new perks take zombies to recruit difficulty >fast forward to 2021 >vanguard comes out >little hope left >game releases, utter despair >2022, zombies is dead
It's been a slow descent since the end of BO3 DLC cycle. Der Eisendrache and Gorod were the peak.
>new maps fall flat
Firebase Z is one of the best maps in the series, and Cold War was a huge step up from BO3/BO4/AW/WWII, from a gameplay perspective it's arguably the best.
I stopped playing after black ops 3 >Used to just take turning on the power to get PaP with cool easter eggs all over >Started making it so it takes doing convoluted 'easter egg's that require guides and are extremely boring on repeat playthroughs just to access the PaP machine >Also made the wunder weapons incredibly rare to the point that out of ten games I might see a raygun once let alone the map exclusive ones
>new maps fall flat

said, they fixed those problems in Cold War. >PaP is accessible after 2-3 objectives that are clearly marked, with the bullshit aspects of EE's relegated to everything after turning on power and upgrading guns >every map has a method of creating that maps unique wonder weapons on top of being available from the box and challenge rewards
That being said they've had a problem that's been brewing sine BO2 and peaked in BO4, where characters won't shut the frick up. In BO2-4 it was the playable characters themselves, but Cold War you have to listen to "quirky" scientists, Russian boomers making dad jokes, and Weaver simp for Maxis inbetween trying to make cool threats to the enemy on whatever map you're on.

After bo3, cold war was fun but it didn't feel right sometimes
This is like the 4th COD zombie thread up. Did something happen?
I think there has been a lot of interest going back into recently cod zombies

BO3
BO2 DLC after that it was a mixed bag. WaW, BO1, and CW are best.
It got boring.

They have a good premise and they fricked it up.

literally cold war (and Vanguard maybe)

turning to complete capeshit space fantasy ruined zombies and made the whole point of it (zombies) pointless.
b03 still has a shit load of people playing custom zombies, but that is propped up by the community making custom content.
So, favorite map?
