Given BW probably started development right after DP, the only frame of reference they had was the Sinnoh one, which was easily the worst in the franchise. On the other hand, nothing is a major downgrade from HGSS's version, although it probably needed a bit of a rework for a game with a different design philosophy than HGSS's "take the game a day at a time". At least they didn't slap the name on something completely unrelated like the Friend Safari or the ORAS one. I guess if you want RNG bullshit Pokemon catching, you can always do the Dream World. Oh wait, see above.
You know, it's amazing how many classic features were tied to the Dream World instead of the actual game, like the thought was there but nobody thought what would happen when it was gone. It's not like they didn't try like with some of the later Pokemon games, there's genuinely an effort that was wasted.

This is why it's a side-grade.
TMs were originally meant to be single-use to give you access to powerful moves early on but in limited quantities to facilitate a system where your choices matter.
The ideal solution is to have both of best worlds, that is, one-use TMs during the actual main campaign, and a way to make them permanent later on.

I like how the kalosgay is claiming that being able to rematch three trainers in all of XY is some plethora of content, as if the games before BW didn't all let you rematch literally every single trainer in the region. In E, Pt, and HGSS they also get new teams each time
Now that you mention it, one of my problems with Gen 5 is that there’s barely any variety in how you can encounter/discover Pokemon.
For example Gen 1 and 2 had the Game Corner, Safari Zone, static non-legendary encounters like Snorlax and Sudowoodo, ingame trades, Bug catching contest, Headbutt trees, fishing, swarms reported from phone calls, breeding, etc
Meanwhile in BW virtually every Pokemon can just be found by running in circles in each area until the Pokemon pops up. It’s so homogenized. Even the fishing rod is removed until the post-game. I think this also why Unova fans constantly whine about Johto making the new Pokemon too hard to find. They’re used to be being handed all the Pokemon on a silver platter just by running around in the grass.
Gen 5 had static non legendaries, ingame trades, fishing, breeding, similar features to swarms. It also introduced that double grass and other overworld things like rustling in caves and grass and shit, bird shadows, etc.
I really don't get how these are even less of a silver platter. If anything, random encounters are less "handed to you" than overworld mechanics, so you're obviously jusy posting for the sake of posting. Which brings be to my final point: >pitting Johtogays and Unovagays against one another.

This is why it's a side-grade.
TMs were originally meant to be single-use to give you access to powerful moves early on but in limited quantities to facilitate a system where your choices matter.
The ideal solution is to have both of best worlds, that is, one-use TMs during the actual main campaign, and a way to make them permanent later on.

BW2 has a low IQ distribution where the game just mass dumps broken shit. There is no balancing. In an intelligent game like DP, your options are restricted and you have to actually think about what you want to use and how you'll deal with future threats.

The only decent thing you listed is the Subway, which is just a renamed Tower. PWT is easier than the Tower and Join Avenue is reddit content only useful for stones.

Now that you mention it, one of my problems with Gen 5 is that there’s barely any variety in how you can encounter/discover Pokemon.
For example Gen 1 and 2 had the Game Corner, Safari Zone, static non-legendary encounters like Snorlax and Sudowoodo, ingame trades, Bug catching contest, Headbutt trees, fishing, swarms reported from phone calls, breeding, etc
Meanwhile in BW virtually every Pokemon can just be found by running in circles in each area until the Pokemon pops up. It’s so homogenized. Even the fishing rod is removed until the post-game. I think this also why Unova fans constantly whine about Johto making the new Pokemon too hard to find. They’re used to be being handed all the Pokemon on a silver platter just by running around in the grass.
Gen 5 had static non legendaries, ingame trades, fishing, breeding, similar features to swarms. It also introduced that double grass and other overworld things like rustling in caves and grass and shit, bird shadows, etc.
I really don't get how these are even less of a silver platter. If anything, random encounters are less "handed to you" than overworld mechanics, so you're obviously jusy posting for the sake of posting. Which brings be to my final point:
