Where do you set the limit between actually having a disposable income and wanting to physically own the games you love to bits (not just to play them in the most authentic way, but also to admire all the nifty stuff of the physical packaging) but also not getting fooled by the current retro market?
I'm a homeowner.
There's exactly one reason to own physical games to me, and that's manuals and maps unless available online. Having the disc and israeliteel case doesn't add to the experience in any way to me and I find things like a t-shirt or a piece of artwork superior memorabilia in every way.
This is pretty much my take, unless it's a franchise I hold dear like classic Mega Man or Dungeon Keeper, but even then I'm happy with a few physical copies
Otaku thread:
Stay mad homosexual.
GITS on PS1 was developed by based Exact, who developed for japanese chadputers, not shitty britjankputers.
Bought this game £2.50 a few days ago. Cope
you accidentally typed a period after the 2.
cope
>Stand alone complex
that's the PS2 game, not the ps1 one.
you're dumb.
>i'm too stupid to look past the title
Sony only Published the PS2 game in Japan. No wonder you're dumb money who pays hundreds of dollars for video games.
>don't look at the title! look at the publisher!
lol what the frick
>game released in '97
>anon says it is a media tie in for an OVA released in '04
Why is this even a discussion?
Where does that screenshot say 1997?
OP here.
I shelled out. 100 dollaridoos + shipping. Eh
based, frick dem foxes and their sour grapes.
enjoy your retro vidja
better go buy elemental gear, shadow tower, vagrant story, jjba, and koudelka now. You DO already have black label copies of sotn and silent hill plus the basic scott former collection right OP? If not you can maybe get a good bulk deal for the basics.
>scottformer spammer is a playstation loyalist
huh
>zoomer buygay can't detect sarcasm
If you're looking for picrelated I'd suggest importing the NTSC-J version- the menus are all in english, the only thing you'll miss are understanding the very brief and unimportant cutscene dialogue. Has a way better case and artwork, and costs about $20
I think $100 for something truly rare is my limit. That said I'm genuinely considering buying a copy of Silent Hill for that price. Frick.
bought it for 50 bucks CIB in mint condition before covid, glad i did as i love that game now its one of my favorite.
Fricking nice. I have the PSP/PS3 digital version, but I prefer original hardware honestly. I'm shit with horror games but it intrigues me massively after having played it on psp during a blizzard that caused a blackout and being absolutely spooked shitless by the entire situation and how creepy it was.
oh that must have been a nice playthrough, its actually on the PS3 that i played silent hill for the first time but my only controller died on me and then decided to buy a copy.
My compromise is only having a few games on the list, and no overpaying. I've managed to get a few, but it'll be a while to finish the list.
I usually don't care about possesing the games but seeing this pic made me change my mind, I want that, gimme
First rule is I truly do not give a frick about rarity. If I'm gonna own some artifact of a game it's because I like it, it's special to me and I wanna own it, not because of its rarity, or value, or potential value. I have a job for making money.
I like the covers of FF7-9 and the boxes are special for me, so I bought the Japanese PSX releases. I don't care that they probably printed millions of copies of them, or if there's some super-limited, super-expensive edition of it somewhere.
I own a house, have a high paying job and can read Japanese. I can buy whatever I want but pirating will always be easier.
Grow up homosexuals it's okay to not reply to a thread if it's not a topic that interests you. More than half these posters are insecure nobodies trying to act superior for the way they play with their toys of all things. Noone gives a shit that you don't give a shit.
>Noone gives a shit that you don't give a shit.
>throwing pearls before swine
keep up the good work anon
Typically at most half of what the game sold for because anymore feels like an insult to the original developers since they don't get any money. An alternative is to just to make a fake box or dvd cover, they are almost indistinguishable if you are not looking for flaws.
On the other hand I've paid 150 for bootleg arcade boards.
Well thankfully I started while most games I wanted were still cheap enough and nowadays I don’t get anything too expensive unless I truly want it. 200 is my limit. I willingly to raise it depending on the game or series. If you’re going to collect you might as well go all the way in or not that this point.
I buy whatever I want provided it's under $1000. anything more expensive than that, I'll leave for the hoarders and speculators.
I try to find things at garage sales and thrift stores (and from friends) first and foremost, and I'll never buy anything from a retro store or eBay for more than average market value. I'm also not opposed to replacing things like CD israeliteel cases because cracks and scuffs happen, and I'm not autistic enough to notice any difference if it's close enough. Manuals, boxes, discs, inserts, etc have to be original though.
>I'm also not opposed to replacing things like CD israeliteel cases because cracks and scuffs happen, and I'm not autistic enough to notice any difference
I've read there are several different variants across entire libraries that are no different. So as long as you find a donor with the correct variant, it's a 100% match.
The plastic type and extremely minor details like mold shape and surface finish actually vary quite a bit, but it doesn't really bother me.
they're botb manufactured by sony you moronic autist
I don't have the patience to explain the differences between CD israeliteel case variations to an inbred homosexual. Go ask uncle father.
>implying I don't replace my own double israeliteel cases
Oh do go on sir homosexual
There are literally hundreds, if not thousands of variants. Image search them, print them out, and shove them up your ass.
I try to trade and then pay the difference, Im out of viable options for trading now but I got some games I'd never own otherwise. $50 is my limit, it's hard to want to go much higher but I have for some vita games
Pretty fricking simple. You set some kind of control as to the frequency that you can purchase said shit, whether it be having to complete the game, or just have it be monthly, or based on some other accomplishment chronological, or otherwise. If you want to go to the gym, for example, every workout gives you 5 dollars you can spend on gayming. Or cycling or running, every 10k or m or whatever gives you 5 dollars. Need a girlfriend? Every girl you talk to or meet gives you x amount of money to spend on retro shit. Or maybe you're practicing something like a skill or whatever, every two hours of practice gives you x amount of money to blow. Any kind of decent control instantly fixes the problem and if done properly improves your life plus exponentially and also makes you enjoy it more because you know you earned it and you have time to enjoy the last thing you bought before the next one comes unlike being a compulsive homosexual just spending money to fill emptiness in you. It also gives you time in-between to do other shit like actually find the best prices and shit you want most. Having regulation and reason + reward in your life changes everything, all you have to do is take the initiative and have consistency, which is obviously the hardest part for anyone starting something new.
>Every girl you talk to or meet gives you x amount of money to spend on retro shit.
lol what the frick, it works the other way around
the virgin "I make up moronic rules to spend money on things I want even if I have extra money" VS the "I'm broke as frick but I need that copy of Panzer Dragoon Saga, I'll take another loan" CHAD
