Objectively the worst Yakuza in almost every aspect.
    >Story is one of the worst thing's I've ever seen.
    >Insane number of unskippable talking mouths scenes
    >Saejima's whole part is fricking awful.
    >Enemy spawns are fricking absurd.
    >Weapons are the worst they've ever been.
    >The worst 100% completion by far, full of just god awful design decisions.

I could spend days going over how many fricking annoying issues exist in Yakuza 5. Having 100%'d 0-6, 5 is the only game I fricking hated. Every other one was fun to 100%.

I thought Saejima's combat was a huge leap from 4 and is one of the best in the series. Too bad his chapter is awful.

        Anonymous

No, it's actually worse. Both 4 and 5 have the same problem where he gets heat and just spams XXXYYY with no real risk. It's actually worse in 5 because at least in 4, hard enemies could deal enough damage to knock you out of heat. In 5, you can literally just stand there and spam Tiger Drop and activate it while getting hit. The window is fricking massive and deals a ton of damage.

The only "flaw" is that he is slow, but it's hardly a flaw when you just ignore damage completely. There is no nuisance to his gameplay and it's braindead. At least Kiryu gets punished for missing the tiger drop.

The entire series has a dogshit story except for 1 and 2.
5 elevates the shittiness by having all these side characters and plotlines that bloat the story. You can see them backtracking on their mistakes in 8 and Gaiden by having Kiryu fight with Majima, Saejima and Daigo instead of some literal whos.
The entire series has a story that doesn't know what to do with itself. This franchise can't commit to anything. Kiryu got his identity back for fricks sake. They also keep reusing the same characters and plots.

One of the best games I ever played, contextually. I was there in those early threads begging sega to localize the game, I followed the entire saga for years, people begging and hoping that the game would get localized. I was there when sony got involved and sega finally announced the localization. I pre ordered the game(I think it was the first game I ever preordered, second one was MHW I think). I was there when the game launched. I played it all over christmas. It was a magical time. It reminded me of when I was a kid and got a nice game for christmas and got to play it all day long, except this time I bought with my own money as an adult. I shitposted about the game for months on Ganker as we all played it together. No other Yakuza game will ever top this, not because Y5 is particularly good, and I think it's a really good game, but because the game's original launch in the west was just magical for me. One of the best christmas ever.

In fact I enjoyed Y5 so much I kinda lost all interest for the series. Every now and then I try to go back and play one of the games I haven't finished yet only to drop after a couple days.

It's one of the best, just a better version of 4 in every way, Kiryu felt the best in 5 by far, the amount of things to do in his moveset at that point was insane, he felt like a beast

i really enjoyed it depsite the goofy story towards the end. katsuya and watase were great but akiyama should have had his own real chapter and maybe just have haruka dancing be little interludes between all the chapters

The story wasn't really that goofy though. It was just a mess that had no clue what the hell it was doing. The ending basically shits on the entire message of the game.

    MASATO AIZAWA

The fight was cool at least, but Aizawa sucked.

I just want to say every single dev who set up this list and the Dokopedia are complete c**ts especially because there was zero reason to wipe your list in NG+ since you can plop down all your buildings and get an immediate A or S in Satisfaction as soon as you start NG+.

Why do you have to give out like 1,000 souvenirs? Since each day is roughly 15-20ish minutes due to menuing stopping time that's an hour for 75 gifts.
Why do you have to wave to guests like 1,000 times?
Why do you need to wave at your Sujimon 500 times?
Why do you have to praise them I believe 250 times when each visit to the Farm is roughly 10 praises?
Why do you need to destroy around 5,000 junk piles when a normal playthrough would only make you destroy mid 1,000 forcing you to never advance your Resort Rank past the north half of the map or you lose access to like 20-30 very easy junk piles per day?
Why do you need to defend lodges from attacks 20 times when you can only get a single attack once every three days prior to endgame and you see them roughly once every six days if you clear the entire map? If you unlock the Fields you start getting pest attacks more than lodging attacks which makes them even rarer so you can't go past it.
Why is the Tsuchinoko this rare? It's been 12 hours and I have 5 even though I've been going to the spawn points I know give them.
Why do the statues all cost 6 of their respective rocks when you need 70 of them crafted each and you can only get 3-6 of each per day?

      >Why
Because they think it's funny autists like you might actually try and complete it, and then you'll pay them for the privilege of doing it again.

        Moose

That's the thing though, they've been making the completion lists shorter and easier ever since around 6. FotNS was like the only exception to that. But with 8 it's like they just put their middle fingers up the whole game and especially on Dondoko Island.
It's like no one played that game mode and noticed the entire Dondoko Farm is useless mechanically outside of the massive amounts of items scattered around it. The entire Sujimon stuff would never be used by any player because it's so unbelievably inconvenient compared to just doing Sujimon battles or three days of guests + daily item pickups. One Platinum Sujimon battle gives you more EXP for six Sujimon in two minutes than 40 minutes and 100k Dokobucks at the farm does for three Sujimon. Why require the player to get hundreds of some items instead of just like 10-30? Why not just ask for three Tsuchinoko?

It's like they designed Dondoko Island with the mindset of it being Animal Crossing but forgot Animal Crossing, at most, only asks you to get four insects/fish of a single type and only if you want statues. Typically you only get one for the museum and that's it.

          Anonymous

Because it's not tied to any achievements/trophies so only giga autists like you would ever bother. Even though no one else cares you'll be spending the next few months whining about it in every thread, but still doing it.

            Moose

I'm close to being done, it's only like maybe 10-15 hours more, but I just wanted to vent about their stupid decisions because it feels malicious since next to no one would ever reach past like 5* in most categories naturally. Yeah, barely anyone is going to do this, same as the 999 in DoD/MD in 0.

I recently replayed it, and it's pretty enjoyable IF you take your time with it. If you try and go through it quickly while getting a good taste of everything, you'll burn yourself out by the time you get to Shinada's part, especially considering the 2 hour exposition of Saejima's whole jail section with small fetch quest breaks in between to make sure you're still alive. Climax Heat actions were a neat idea, but the fact they overrode all other Heat actions if their conditions were met meant that you'd often end up using it on a random grunt when you wanted to save it for the boss.

I really felt for that despairing dying old guy just watching his world burn, most solid plot boss. Actually I really miss the gameplay+story bosses formula because both of the gays from 8 were easy gameplay-wise and silly plot-wise. Frick 8, even 4 looks handsome near it
