Poorly balanced exp curve, gym leaders who only use 3 Pokemon with garbage movesets and zero EVs, Lucky Egg handed for free, constant handholding, being linear as frick so it’s impossible to run into overleveled opponents like RBY/PLA/SV, constant free healing and items, and a challenge mode that doesn’t even function correctly means less challenging
that is such bullshit. more QoL and less tedium doesn't necessarily mean less challenging. unova has significantly harder trainer fights and boss battles than any Gen before it.
all the games are easy if you're playing by normal rules. in the nuzlocke community for example, Gen 5 is generally considered among the hardest because fights like ghetsis in bw2 can push your shit in. there's no comparable fights in gen1-3.

OP here. If I applied these rules after every death and after every gym battle in a randomized nuzlocke, would it make even Lets Go difficult?
It's got some decent battles, but I'd say it's fairly easy. Frankly with the exp system I find it impossible to ever be underleveled and frankly find myself over levelled compared to most gym leaders. I basically only ever potentially find any challenged with Nimbasa N, Elesa, Clay or Ghetsis. I still like the game though so it doesn't really matter.
