Problem is that papal infallibility was instituted in 19th century. They would obviously say that it's retroactive, and it was always there, however as a matter of fact before that moment absolutely nobody knew about papal infallibility.

I'm not even Christian, but I generally wish Outremer had succeeded. It's biggest problem was not allowing Muslims into its bureaucracy and armed forces; it meant they were always short on manpower and equipment whereas had they allowed it they would have had one of the world's first religiously tolerant state and would have had a big propaganda win like Spain before the completion of the Reconquista, or Sicily under the Normans.

        Anonymous

Sicily was already pretty tolerant for the time, being one of the few places to trade with muslims. I think Christians at the time just didn’t “get” Islam, it was seen as pagan and not the third abrahamic iteration

Yeah, that's largely true. The first translation of the Quran into a European language was done in Spain, which I believe happened after the annexation of Toledo IIRC. Interestingly enough, it was done to refute Islam, and was done by multiple Christians, a Muslim, and a very notable israeli man (the latter makes sense because israelites at the time were often highly educated and often served as intermediaries and translators between Spanish monarchs and their Muslim subjects).

The mosque-cathedral in Cordoba (Spain) has two spanish christian kings who were buried by their heirs in muslim fashion and with pieces of muslim scripture decorating their tombs. There was straight admiration for them at points in history from the christian side.

Of course, the funny part is that the writings in said tomb are actually total nonsense that doesn't say anything and is really just individual letters taken from the quran, which means muslims at the time would have seen it as the equivalent of a weeb saying random vaguely japanese sounding words.

Daily reminder that this scene never happened in real life. Saladin lifted the siege of Karak and hightailed it back to Damascus the moment he found out that Baldwin was on his way.

Outremer would have succeeded if Baldwin didn't get leprosy and the Greeks didn't stupidly massacre all of the Catholics in Constantinople (which resulted in the Fourth Crusades).

          Anonymous

I would disagree with your assessment. By its very nature, Outremer could not survive without fresh knights and recruits from either Europe or local forces. The problem being by the late 1100s most of the lands were already owned by local knights, and more land couldn't be parceled out to meet the requirements of a stronger landed nobility and the troops that entailed. Most of the borderlands were highly dangerous due to raiding, or just not fertile enough to support men at arms and the people necessary to farm that land. As I have stated, without more troops or a greater tolerance for other faiths in the beauracracy and army, the Crusader states were constantly scraping the bottom of the barrel in manpower terms.

                >Saladin continued his march towards Jerusalem, believing that Baldwin IV wouldn't follow him. He attacked Ramla, Lydda and Arsuf, but because Baldwin was supposedly not a danger, he allowed his army to be spread out over a large area, pillaging and foraging. However, unknown to Saladin, the forces he had left to subdue the King had been insufficient and now both Baldwin and the Templars were marching to intercept him before he reached Jerusalem.

                >Saladin was taken totally by surprise. His army was in disarray: part had been held up by the mired baggage train while another part of his force had scattered into raiding parties across the countryside. The horses were tired from the long march. Some men had to hurry to collect their weapons from the baggage train. Saladin's army, in a state of panic, scrambled to make battle lines against the enemy.

Computer number simulations that govern battles in Crusader Kings obviously don't factor in all those details. Not to mention that there are no humans commanding the armies during the battles who could potentially make very good or very bad decisions that could quickly turn the tide of the battle.

There is a cool mod for CK3 called "Crusader Wars" that actually allows you to fight your CK3 battles in Attila Total War. It will certainly help to make more victories like that possible.

It is understandable that something was done about the Catholics in Constantinople since the Italian merchants were just too good in economical colonization and monetary trickery, they were quite literally buying Byzantine lands from under the crown and the local nobility and had assumed control of vital trade in the capital already. Andronikus II went full moron with it though like he later went full moron with purging the Greek nobility of potential and imaginary traitors which led to his deposition and execution.

        >put a colonial outpost in the heartland of Islam
        >expect it to last
It would have been gone eventually (due to political reasons), even the 1st crusade was just a fluke since at the time the ruling Muslims didn’t care ass they were busy with things they deemed more important. After they started taking it seriously they started to actually reconquer the area.

Crusader ideology was similar to communism, it was unsustainable over the long term.

realize that they lived in a completely different society with different values and different avenues for social mobility and measures of success. 99% of men born in his time didn't live lives like him either. a good majority of them died horrible deaths on battlefields for causes they only gave a shit about because they had to in order to have bread to eat.

remember that julius caesar wept at alexander the great's grave believing he could never achieve the greatness that he did. it's natural to look to those greater than you and find yourself lacking. but that doesn't mean you can't achieve things that have value to you personally or to those around you.

If Baldwin were to be born to a farmer, we would never hear of him. He would plow the fields for a few years and then die and be forgotten. Alexander was great only because his father was even greater. Philip II amassed the army that would allow Alexander to achieve immortality. He trained his son and prepared him to continue with the plan he set forward.

None of us know really what truly makes a game fun, or what hands will craft it next.
An oil prince might pre-order a game, access to all sorts of exclusive gear and early day access.
A father who works 9-5 might look up all the things worth doing on youtube to have the best build in the brief time afforded to him.
A man may choose to do neither, only he can choose and when he does choose only then can he decide how truly he wants to have fun with a game
Remember how so you choose to play a game, your enjoyment with the game is your keeping alone
Even though those playing the same game be shills, whales, hardcore players, casuals.
When you stand before Ganker you cannot say

What was your most interesting Crusader Kings campaign set during the Crusades?

      Anonymous

I forgot exactly what date it was but I started playing as The Doge of Republic of Genoa at the age of 20. Some African Muslim Count down over in Spain waged embargo war on me to destroy my ports in his towns, I lost that war and he destroyed them. As retaliation, over the course of the next 40 years I eradicated every single Muslim ruler in Spain then conquered their lands and turned Genoa into an Empire Republic.

After that I spent the next 10 years just earning money and raising my son and daughter that I had with Queen of Aragon and Navarra that I met in one of the battle when she too, was directly fighting to eradicate the Muslims from Spain.

After that, at age 70, the Pope suddenly declared a crusade for Jerusalem and I went there fighting on the front with my army. Captured a bunch of provinces, made friends with various Crusaders I met, pillages and destroy a Muslim Holy Site. Beheaded Muslim captives, fought a bunch of them in duels on the battlefield and won despite me being an old man and some of them being in their prime... 5 years later, Crusade finally comes to an end and the Pope gives the Kingdom of Jerusalem to my daughter who was like 20 at the time.

After that I just sat back and didn't do much but help her whenever she would send me requests for help in her wars against nearby Muslims surrounding her kingdom.
Became Infirm at the age of 91 and then just made my Son King of Spain at the age of 42 and granted him Independence.

I stopped playing after that, idk what happened to Genoa, I think my son would've taken over it still after my death, but that was a pretty cool since I didn't expect to live that long.

My English king, Wymund, had a bastard daughter with a black noblewoman I named Richenda. He had been focusing on the crusades in that time, and when he noticed the girl was innately suited to war, he started grooming her as his heir. I "removed" all the king's sons from the running, eventually leaving Richenda the only suitable heir. When my king died in battle, she ascended the throne and began my most effective conquest in the entire campaign. Starting in Egypt she swept down into Africa, up into the Middle East and ultimately formed Outremer after completely ousting Islam from the region.

Unironically the best warrior I've ever seen in the game, she slaughtered three different sultans in personal combat and had a kill count nearly into the triple digits from battle alone.

      God bless that b***h.

SandBlack folk don't deserve the luxury of nuance until they stop being violent savages, or at least go back to their countries to be violent savages in.

                >dies of low birth rates
The problem with morons like you is that you reveal to your enemy that you are irrationally hostile to them and will never want peace. So whenever the tables turn and they have power over you, they are gonna immediately exterminate you. Whereas if you were peaceful in the first place they wouldn’t bother

And of course even neighboring civilizations like China etc.. will think of you as a potential threat as well (maybe after the Muslims they are next) so all you do by being moronic is make enemies of the whole world

This is basically what israelites have been doing, and it’s why the whole world hates them for one reason or another and everyone wants to exterminate them if they get the chance

Lol tell that to the non violent Hindu societies mudslimes wiped out during their conquest. They proudly wrote in their books about putting all men to the sword and making the rivers run red, while claiming all their women as trophies. Eight hundred years of this until India, the place that had invented the first flush toilet, had been reduced to what it is today.

Hindus back then weren't the inbred subhumans as you know them to be today. Same way Egyptians weren't sandBlack folk either. Those places and its peoples were exterminated and then subsequently defiled by the invaders for centuries.

Are you getting this off some twitter troony page? The idea of a “peaceful non-violent” Hinduism is a myth. The first conflicts between the Arabs and Indians were that of Indian pirates attacking Arab trade routes (very easy money) and of course Arab merchants then hiring mercenaries to protect their shekels and then launching raids into India and setting up outposts (similar to modern day American navy bases across the world) which then grew into their own independent Islamic nations. In fact some of these mercenaries were literally other Hindus/Buddhists etc….

Aside from the fact that back then India wasn’t even majority Hindu and had many other Vedic sects and religions there (wiped out by Hindus themselves)

Although technically Hinduism as know it today didn’t exist, and what we call “Hinduism” is actually a group of many religions.

Arabs (nor Greeks or Persians before them) had any intention to conquer the whole subcontinent anyways since there was nothing civilized to conquer, they conquered the Indus Valley and the Delhi river valley. The rest were trade ports set up on the coast lines similar to what the Portuguese did.

The French allying with the Ottomans, the catholic Spanish kingdoms which were the most powerful kingdoms in Iberia fighting each other for centuries rather than attack the Moors right away. The Crusades which were a fricking meme, the Venetians fricking everything up.

">i was told by reddit and Ganker this was the best strat"
">the game has no challenge to it because i looked up where the best gear was hidden"
    or that
">i didn't have the time to experiment and needed the best build so i had to optimize the fun out of the game to get it asap"
this as criticism, will not suffice, remember that
