I have a good PC and moronicly bought a PS5 for Demon's Souls expecting it to eventually get other exclusives that I cared about.
At the very least you don't have to wait a year or two for those exclusives to come to pc, but so long as your pc isn't worse than a PS5 that was really stupid, especially since they've been open about how they want to port their games to pc.
The point is that the purpose of owning a console used to be getting exclusive games that aren't on PC. The PS5 has no exclusives. So why would you buy the 500 dollar PS5 instead of building an 800 dollar PC and then saving 300+ dollars on games, online fees, etc.? A PC is a superior device inherently because it can do other things, and even emulate games. That $800 PC will let you play Nintendo Switch exclusives via emulation, the PS5 wont.

But some power trade off isn’t really worthwhile if I lose key features like the ability to mod my games, emulate, keep access to my game library 10 years from now when Sony is on the ps7 and decides the PS5 server infrastructure isn’t worth maintaining anymore, etc. you think disc based gaming will save you? Those games won’t launch without contacting psn for activation every time. You think Sony is going to maintain that in 2035? 2050? Will it even be an option? Yakuza gaiden didn’t even have a physical release in the west. PC is the last frontier to avoid constant arm bullshit although tbf Microsoft is making sure they do everything they can to frick that up and Linux gaming is still kind of sad

Very unlikely the "pro" is real. It's not mentioned anywhere in the Insomniac leaks and that had their financial forecasts all the way to like 2028. Seems very unlikely Insomniac wouldn't be using it for marketing purposes at all, especially with remasters being such a large portion of their revenue. Surely it'd be tied into their plans in some way.
Oh and for on topic does Sony really have nothing first party lined up for 24? Their output has been abysmal. They are suffering like Nintendo back in the day. Too much reliance on third parties who these days are either milking one live service game forever or completely shitting the bed.

This remains to be seen. We're still relatively early in the generation. Up to this point Sony has only had to sell consoles to the hardcore fans. As time moves on they need to sell to a more and more casual audience and I can see them having some trouble doing that.

8th gen is still getting games. Design has peaked so it's purely scalable graphics now. PS6 comes out in 2028 but the PS5 will get game until 20233.

That's really old information, I wouldn't read anything into it. For one thing, they probably expected developers to move to the new generation much faster than they have. It would be laughable seeing Microsoft or Sony try to sell a new console in 2026 when the PS4 is still getting most games in 2024.
Design has peaked, the only thing that affects design with current consoles is SSD's meaning devs don't need to lock us in stupid tunnels anymore to hide loading times, everything else is scalable.
People don't buy consoles for exclusives except for few giganerds. It's mostly brand loyalty, had PS4 last gen so will buy PS5 the next one
I have a 3080ti, i7 and 64gig ram. It runs games better than a PS5 of course but not THATTT much better, I used to be on board the relentless shit talk of consoles ps4 gen because devs really did stretch them too thin the hardware was really outdated really fast, and everything was a blurry 20 fps mess but honestly this time round it runs games just fine.
I have a ps5 hooked up to my 4k tv and I've never really had any complaints they are doing much better with the upscaling and any game that needs 60fps usually has a setting to reach it and any other game I am more than happy to go ray tracing, quality mode at 30fps like with RE4.
Now of course it has no exclusives but who gives a frick? Why would I be pro exclusives? You guys relentlessly shit talked games being exclusives before the ps4 gen and now most games or multiplat and you shit talk consoles for having no games.

Well for one reason or another be it marketing or whatever else the PS won the last generation (and the tail end of the ps3/360 generation as well) and have not made a major misstep to lose that lead this generation. So even tho the xbox and the PS are the same pc in box people are ganna stick with what they know, what they like, where their friends are, where the celebs are and where the majority of other players and casuals are.

It's not though because it's locked down. The PS5 would absolutely be a fantastic deal if you could buy games off steam and run emulation. Without those things it becomes useful only really for very casual players. You will pay more for a PS5 long term than an equivalent PC because you get lower game prices and no online fee.

Not even that anymore, current consoles operate in a low power mode instead of an off mode so updates happen while you sleep/work. That's one thing they have over PC.
