Lot of people like to praise Asylum above the rest if just for its story, but its actual combat is extremely barebones next to all the extra elements the later games build upon it
They all have different things.
Asylum - Best atmosphere
City - This I think might be the sorta is ok at everything but doesnt have the best of atmosphere, story or combat.
Origins - Best Story
Knight - Best Combat
City's story is broken by some really lazy weak points >Joker getting you from behind with the gas at all, detective vision is no help to stop that >Right as you have not-Joker at your mercy, rubble conveniently falls to pin you down and flip the tables >Talia doesn't gut Joker as soon as he's got the knife away from Bruce's face and actually goes along with him
Bruce carrying Joker out like a biblical scene was pretty gay too
I think City is probably my least favourite. The rest all have their own strengths.
City ad the best individual story beats and set pieces. The beginning of Protocol 10 was sick with how they used the music. I think Origins beats it out story wise by having more defined arcs though.
The tank-mode felt like it didn't belong
And multiple dungeons revolving around figuring out how to get the batmobile into absurd places was taking the piss
But otherwise I thought it felt good to drive and roaring around in it was really satisfying
knight by a lot. even the batmobile is fun even though its a bit dark knight returns
I can list every single thing I like about it but it's too much. and has a huge amount of villains all of which are well-written and all look awesome. All the side missions are super super cool. there's all those suits from all the movies and most of the batmobiles. there's a bunch of extra content where you play as other members of the bad family. The combat and graphics are also obviously the best. It is the definitive Batman game no question.
City. It has the gameplay of Asylum but better and expanded and it has the sprawling exploration of Knight without forcing the batmobile down your throat.
The only thing it lacks a bit is in the story an atmosphere, which are better in Asylum, due to the more focused level and story design taking place in a single atmospheric location rather than a city and with more popular villains. No one gives a a frick about Hugo Strange.
Asylum >this was the breakthrough. Iconic, but difficulty to return to because of the massive improvements made in the sequels make it feel barebones. >people WAY overstate the game's Metroidvania elements
City >the best Arkham game PERIOD >virtually everything is improved upon from Asylum >the forced Catwoman segments are kind of a annoying and mess with the pacing. These can be disabled on PC
Origins >against all odds, it somehow has the best story of the series >poorly implemented skill tree that forces you to buy all of the health and armor upgrades before you can get the fun combat moves. Thus defeating the entire purpose of a skill tree >poorly implemented new "Dark Knight System", specifically the "Worst Nightmare" branch. It requires you to play the Predator rooms in a very specific way, but the game only has a limited number of them. You can't replay Predator encounters either to help unlock this branch >electric gloves can be fun, but they do trivialize the combat system >combat timing is different from the rest of the series
Knight >certainly tries to be the definitive Batman
game >The story sucks. PERIOD. Paul Dini wasn't asked to return and they brought in the guy who wrote Killzone Shadowfall or something. It just sucks. >Say what you will about the overall plot of Asylum and City, but all of the characters always acted appropriate to their character. A lot of the time, they act out of character in this game IMO. >They really TRIED to make the Batmobile compelling from a gameplay point. Like the core combat, the higher you build your combo the more combat options open up to you >Batmobile is overused though and HEAVILY detracts from the core Batman gameplay >the stealth segments (and bosses battles) with the Batmobile suck and were a laughably bad idea >leans heavily into your standard open world "repeat this task x number of times" >The Season of Evil DLC is pretty solid
Batbros, what Batman comics are worth reading? I've only read The Dark Knight Returns, Arkham, Asylum and Hush.
A Serious House on Serious Earth
IGNORE THIS GUY
>filtered by grant morrison’s kino
sucks to suck, i guess
you're a complete homosexual
meant for

long halloween, court of owls, no mans land, killing joke, eternal
Depends what area

asylum and it's not even close
They all have different things.

City had the best story. The whole everything is right under your nose was great
City's story is broken by some really lazy weak points

I one that I played
Knight
The new remasters run like shit
asylum has the best story
city has the best gameplay
origins has the most snow
and knight the best grafix
>ice sliding till they hit you when you are out of their range
they are all shit
Knight would be 10/10 if not for the fricking Batmobile sections, and you can tell they were banking on it as big feature of the game.
I dont know why people cry about this so often, other than the shitty cloudburst fight and deathstroke fight, the batmobile was fine and pretty cool
The tank-mode felt like it didn't belong

I mostly agree, but I fricking wish they would tone down the riddler shit

I recently played Arkham Origins again on PC. I really enjoyed more than originally when I first played it on PS3.
Replaying Assylum and get flashbanged everytime you turn Detective Vision on isn't fun
Are there not 4 games?
Origins is from a different studio, so it gets left out of the marketing
City has the best atmosphere.

City has the fewest flaws but the least high points. It's the most well-rounded game in the series though so I'm willing to call it "best"
