Chiaki is the main girl of SDR2. She does take a more "protagonistic" role around the end of the game, but before that she was already a prominent figure. She and Nagito are still leagues more competent than Hajime though.

Unlike Makoto, Chiaki's ideals were clearer and better defined, plus the fact that Chiaki had no plot armor only added to her selflessness. Unlike her, Makoto was Kyoko's doormat the whole game up until the very end, letting himself be treated as she pleased, making him a purely reactionary force. I'm starting to lean more into that you were born stupid instead of just pretending.
He did have that one sperg moment in chapter 4 where he refused to let Kyoko know about the identity of the traitor, and while it would've actually been beneficial for him to tell her it displays trustworthiness to his peers as a group and not just loyalty to Kyoko. He didn't want to talk about Sakura without knowing the full story already, even irrationally.

If Komaru counts, then totally her, although unlike Shuichi/Hajime her "final case" is super weak, she's better when she's just out for herself and barely gives a frick about the city.

I think the meteors indeed end the world. In an attempt to save humanity Makoto and Kyoko send their two kids Makoto and Maki to two different points in time. Maki gets sent into space in a mission to sleep until she can find a suitable planet in the future to help repopulate Earth in this timeline. Maki is hope like her father, and Makoto is trying to protect her just like Kyoko's father protected her as principal. Even if this timeline is the end of times, Makoto and Kyoko still wanted to salvage it. I don't believe any of this story is fabricated nor does Tsumugi deny it.
However Makoto and Kyoko send their other child Makoto back in time before any of the events of DR1 in attempt to stop everything. Since Makoto is a detective like his mother, they have full faith he can solve the mysteries of the world and stop Junko from rising to power. He erases his memories and changes his name in RC so that he can learn to give the homunculi a happy life and fully understand them before Junko comes in power. Once he gains his memories back he realizes he has stop Junko so he immediately runs away from all the pussy to can find her. The missing girl flier might have significance because it kinda looks like Mukuro. Since Junko is her twin this could be Junko without all the makeup and fashion makeovers. RC has a story about a girl who destroyed sandcastles, which parallels the tipping point for Junko's despair. It also says the girl died a few years prior which could be a metephor for her clone replacing her and seemingly bringing her back to life. Makoto, now using the name Yuma, will stop her before this arc and allow her to have a happy life. He will also still have to stop the meteors from hitting Earth and destroying the planet. He will rely on others such as his clone who will build a machine to counter the meteors in this timeline.
This wouldn't be the first story where Spike Chunsoft sends the two children of the protags to different points in time in an attempt to undo the end of the Earth
Maki is a combination of Makoto's and Kyoko's name. In Japanese Kyoko's first name is キョウコ, which is basically Kiyouko before getting shortened. キ is Ki. Makoto's spelling is more straight forward as マコト. マ being Ma.

He's really cute and his character arc revolving around developing a wider worldview thanks to experiencing tragic events and becoming a stronger person thanks to it was great and it fitted perfectly with the main theme of the series about going forward despite the existence of darker side of human nature and the world. He feels kind of like a reversed version of Shinji Ikari from Evangelion. His innocence and overly idealistic mindset are very naive, and dangerous, and many times it doesn't work but his ability to get up, not give up, and always see the best in people despite it, is what makes Makoto such a great character and a symbol. He lets everyone grow and change as people.

Considering pic related is a thing I think there's a significant chance Byakuya could solve V3 in Case 1 just from personal experience.

Its from his novel, basically one of Byakuya's sisters was so traumatized by the serial murders happening during the competition for the title of heir that she used a hyper-advanced storytelling AI (see previous picture, think of it like that machine that makes flashback lights in the V3 classroom) to brainwash herself into thinking she was a demon the Togami family supposedly borrowed power from. Its implied Byakuya also had a hand on the brainwashing to hide his cheating in the competition (long story, he technically wasn't included on the Top 16 but he won by default by waiting until everyone else was dead before revealing himself) but its unclear since at that point in the story the narrator (Byakuya's Sister) had gone full schizo and couldn't tell reality from fiction anymore.
Its a fun ride but man even for DR standards the Togami books are weird.
Also I'm pretty sure its supposed to be an Umineko parody but I can't confirm that since I'm only on Episode 5.

They interject with the story often (usually at the start of every volume) and the characters themselves point out the AI is full of shit and has no idea how to write a coherent story by itself. DR2 is Komaeda's game at the end of the day, he's the most developed character with the best writing while Chiaki is just there to be the waifu character for Hajime to sperg out with.
And I say she is a character with quite a bit more complexity behind her than what she seems, and you could notice too if you took the time to think about what she tells you during the game and in her FTEs. It's just that your head is so far up your own ass that it doesn't even cross your mind to question anything above its surface value.
Just for you I looked over her FTE again, and they're just as boring as I remember them, I think the only thing I had remembered was that she wasn't good at dating games and they pet a cow in one of them and after looking over them again I can see why that's all I remembered.
Only thing I'm curious about now is if you're going to defend her even more generic and dull DR3 counterpart.

In a nutshell, at least for me? Sincere and pure idealism. For example, I admire martyrs and I think Chiaki represents one incredibly well. A character capable of showing so much kindness, sacrifice, bravery, etc. usually needs a very good justification behind them to make them believable, and I say she had a pretty good one. Chiaki being such an advanced AI, to me she represents the epitome of human creation, but she is also dehumanised. Her slowly becoming her own person who goes beyond her parameters represents the theme of the second game better than anyone else, this being "future", as the future is something you shouldn't let others control for you and that your actions have consequences because of this, so her gaining more agency over her life is just inspiring. Of course it could have been handled better, just like most thing in these games, but for what she is, Chiaki is just amazing. I can't comprehend how people think she's boring when there's so much though put behind her.

Kirigiri's great because she was morally grey, she was willing to throw Naegi under the bus in order to achieve her goals but still cared about him and rescued him.
Chiaki has nothing interesting about her and they somehow made her even more dull in DR3, there's a reason why Komaeda is the more popular DR2 love interest.

I definitely think she takes advantage of him, but she still cares about him. Either way I always prefer morally grey characters like Kirigiri so it's not a surprise that she's my favorite of the main waifu characters.

Naegi forgives everyone, he was totally fine with Asahina trying to kill everyone in chapter 4 for a bit so I don't think this makes Kirigiri a mary sue at all.

Wasn't she shown as being in the wrong when Naegi decided not to tell her about Sakura? She's pretty clearly meant to be in the wrong several times, only reason she doesn't get called out on it is because by the time she starts getting a ton of screentime most of the characters still alive are also buttholes or morons (I like them all though).

Well no, Angie was insistent that Atua said Himiko was suspicious in the second trial. Though it was good to clear her at the start in order to move on to the alibis and establish that Kirumi was the only possible culprit even if nobody knew it at the time, so maybe Atua works in mysterious ways.
I think all of them are pretty bland, but gotta say I think Makoto takes the cake. He feels like a character the most. All the other protagonists are... gimmicky.
