Filtered by not playing through the whole game at level 1 lmao. That said the scaling is bad but not as bad as people make it out to be. I just recently did a new playthrough and it's really not that bad IF you get the sigil stone enchantments from the oblivion gates and enchant your weapon with it.
the game is a lot easier if you know how to work around scaling and abuse spells and alchemy, but on a blind playthrough i can definitely see how people get filtered, cuz i did as a kid
I would consider daggerfall a 0/10 game, so any game below it would not be worth playing, and daggerfall itself is not worth playing, so I guess elder scrolls as a series just sucks and we can all move on to better things.
Oblivion is not fricking better than Skyrim and anyone who thinks this instantly reveals themself as a massive moron not engaging with the question honestly. Todd Howard’s shitty LOTR fan game was 10 steps back from morrowind and Skyrim was 5 steps forward
>Todd Howard’s shitty LOTR fan game was 10 steps back from morrowind
morrowind doesn't even have npc schedules morrotroon
your "game" is the red headed step child of the franchise, 0 simulation elements, 0 RPG elements, 0 entertainment elements
Literally just buzzwords and made up nonsense. My post was defending Skyrim but I guess you just think the term “Morrotroon” is really clever and want an excuse to spam the thread with it as much as possible
Find me the term morrowtroon in an English dictionary then you annoying homosexual

I never said trannies weren’t freaks I’m just saying you’d fit right into their motley crew
This was exactly my impression trying to play Daggerfall for the first time. Spending hours and hours travelling through copy paste towns and procedurally generated dungeons wasn't fun at all.
And then you realize that 80% of content in Oblivion and Skyrim might as well be copy/pasted, except there are a couple of notable, unique landmarks inbetween and *some* of the quests are more elaborate.
There is barely any material difference between one Draugr tomb and another.
skyrim looks the best, every scene worthy of screenshotting, best physics engine for moving of items in the world, ragdols and similar ensuring cool effects with magic and shouts, voice acting and better controls than morrowind, mods to change whatever you want etc.
Ok i'll give you that it has visuals, but thats really it. I played through Skyrim and all its addons 1 month ago and it was fun sometimes but the overall stories and missions were horrible.
also skyrim has worse default controls, and you can't even jump while sprinting, skyrim has worse ui and ui usability. Sprinting is clunky as frick and you cant turn while sprinting
Last thing. Skyrim doenst have quality quest mods like morrowind because they require voice acting to fit into the shit engine. Also skyrims quests are designed with quest marker in mind so they are soulless without any backstory. 90% of quests are randomly generated. No amount of mods can fix Skyrims shit story and guilds
Anything that isn't Arena or Morrowind. I'm serious pick up Daggerfall on dos box, Oblivion, or Skyrim (not the special edition) and you'll be in good hands.
I consider Oblivion and Morrowind to be more or less on equal footing. Skyrim's pretty but didn't quite do it for me like those two. Daggerfall and Arena just aren't very fun to me.
Oblivion is my guilty pleasure, Adoring Fan is my fricking guy and I have 145 hours. But even I know it's the worst of the main three >Literally nothing to do outside of the cities, absolutely zero reason to explore random dungeons, the cities will point you to every worthwhile quest. >Core gameplay element of spellcrafting and enchanting is locked behind the Mage's guild questline, ALL of your characters will end up doing it to stay relevant late game >Level scaling >Lore got absolutely gutted for the LOTR aesthetic, the Cyrodillic culture infects everyone like the plague and every race acts the same. no Nibenease Jungle Japs, you would never guess the Nibenu river borders Elsywhere and the Black Marsh
filtered? by what? horrible quests, shitty world that is constantly filled with fog to mask the bad render distance or pretentious main story? DLCs were awful as well and you know you fricked up when you get it worse than Skyrim DLCs.
>rendering distance is not related to graphical limitations
based moronbro
probably autistic even
>you see the rendering distance just didn't impress me >haha gotcha rendering isn't really the graphics as you refereed to them, you see what it really is
stfu nerd homosexual. if they made the game comfy from what they were able to do and if lowering the rendering distance achieved that then thats good. No I don't want to see a town for 20 minutes as I walk to it. I want to feel like its far away when it eventually renders on my screen
not understanding this vibe immediately is the apex sign of being a tasteless homosexual
daggerfall seems cool but morrowind looks like some eat pray love faux "muh Buddhism" bullshit fit for a college girls nightstand, so miss me with that one.
Morrowind's main story is basically a retelling of Kierkegaarde, the fact it's in support of religion makes it poison to redditors and rainbow haired prostitutes
Although the combat is shit and the audio quality is grating, I'm really enjoying redguard. The writing is good and it touches a lot of interesting but overlooked points of the lore (the Sload, Yokudan magic, etc). I need to find more swashbuckling adventure games.
Based Redguard enjoyer.
The big twist near the end is great because you wouldn't expect them to incorporate an innocuous TES gameplay mechanic in the story like that. If you played Daggerfall or any later TES game, the twist makes perfect sense, like "oh yeah, of course that would happen" but this is way earlier in the timeline so it's something the characters couldn't have known at the time.
Morrowind, and it's not even close.
I'm trying to be as diplomatic as possible but any other answer is plain wrong. It mogs the rest of the series on so many levels, no other TES gets so many things right as Morrowind does.
Daggerfall >biggest empty world in the history of video games >a lot of unpolished and underutilized RPG mechanics, skills and spells to the point that they look like afterthoughts
Instead of polishing world design, skills and mechanics, Todd made Morrowind >several skills removed >world is magnitudes smaller but is more packed with things to discover, explore and enjoy >still several skills, spells and mechanics that are underutilized to the point of looking like they were afterthoughts >balancing issue which some will consider a good thing and others a negative thing
The player can easily do away with the "character progression" by exploiting AI, enchantment and alchemy which Todd attempted to address in Oblivion >separate soundtracks for towns, the open world, combat and dungeons >towns have to be in separate cells to space console hardware >dynamic AI is a huge jump from NPCs following a short patrol route and just being in one place >physics >level scaling renders character progression useless >terrible voice acting >terrible writing with the exception of a handful of questlines
Oblivion suffers an identity crisis between being an RPG and an action game and ended up failing at being both. It continues in Skyrim >Oblivion but graphically less painful to look at >same terrible voice acting >same terrible writing >reused the dragon model from Oblivion because why not >yet more skills and mechanics removed instead of being refined
Dragonborn is basically a Karen that shouts at the world to get what he wants
In terms of RPG, Daggerfall is the best
In terms of accessibility, Skyrim is the best
Morrowind is the overall best regardless. It's accessible to people who've played lots of RPGs and they hate it while it makes zoomers seethe by basically being and old game
I think Skyrim has the best tech but bad writing and Morrowind has the best writing but bad tech, I think the middle ground would be Oblivion so my answer is Oblivion!
Save scum artifact quests from NPCs for the Troll's Blood Amulet. Knight completely removes its only downside because Knight auto repairs all their gear.
do obliviongays even know what people want out of games? or do they think everyone should have their deluded nostalgia? RPGs in the 80s had better mechanics than oblivion
>le everything fantasy is bargain lotr
read a book you illiterate neckbeard
the irony of your post is that TES lore is much more interesting than lotr lore and is actually one of it's strongest points.
You mean that piece of trivia that was never shown and only mentioned after a massive warp and changing of the game's lore?
Yea, you really care about it. How much of tamerial would just be jungles if they kept this? More than half?
>since they're so delusional and the MOST affected by nostalgia by far out of any ES game.
You just described Obliviongays who became far worse in recent years especially with people's opinions souring on vanilla Skyrim.
everytime i enter an Elder Scrolls thread its always Morrowind Black folk screaming and rolling on the ground thinking they're superior lol lmao.
Oblivion lads just actually enjoy the game and soul and discuss shit without being afraid to admit its shortcomings but not Morrowind fans.
>discuss shit without being afraid to admit its shortcomings
Motherfricker this very thread is filled with Oblivion "lads" pretending the game doesn't have any shortcomings.
then i shall be the first to list some its issues
level scaling
goofy artstyle for argonians and orcs
copy pasted dungeons ( but every ES game has that tbh )
but it makes up for those by having the best DLCs and the best soundtrack and comfy world by far and of course the best quests on average.
Morrowind is best for the power fantasies and breaking the game, Oblivion is the best if you care about factions and characters, Skyrim is the best if you care about modding and exploration. The rest are ignorable.
Morrowind was best for its time.
Oblivion kinda sucked but Shivering Isles was good.
Skyrim was overall best. yeah I know that's a normie take. the expansions were even better.
>Morrowind was best for its time.
what the frick are you morons smoking
Gothic 1 was released before morrowind and gothic 2 was released at the same time as morrowind
The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey
EKA2L emulator runs it just fine, both on desktop and on phone
It is one of the only 3 games that has built-in multiplayer (other two being Battlespire and ESO, TES3MP is not built-in)
and EKA2L is able to convert this bluetooth connection for N-Gage to network or internet connection, so we can play it now as if we were in 2005 with taco phones in the same room
and EKA2L allows you to bind controls, so on PC you can define something that resembles standard FPS controls
>Oblivion and Skyrim above Morrowind in terms of pure fun >both games massively scale back the complexity of combat and all the shit you can do >combat is Oblivion is dogshit samey paddle whacking and Skyrim is even worse, not even the power attacks do unique shit anymore
Also what the frick are you talking about Oblivion having better sidequests than Morrowind? Every single guild is better in Morrowind and there are a shitload more of them. The only thing in Oblivion that actually shines is the Dark Brotherhood, but honestly only the first few missions where things are fun and you can execute your assassinations in unique ways. Hell the Morag Tong has far more interesting quests in Vivec Guildhall. Oblivion having a more "complete" main quest I'll give you but fricking Alduin better than Dagoth Ur? Are you fricking insane?
>I CAN'T DO A INSTA KILL SPELL THE GAME IS RUINEEEED
>All the shit you can do
You can't even ride a horse (or guar) in Morrowind >Quests are better in Morrowind
They're all fetch quests who get praised for "realism" >Assassinate in unique ways
Stealth mechanics in Morrowind are dogshit, Skyrim and oblivion did it better with how what you do actually matters, when in moronwind all that matters are your stats >Alduin better than dagoth
Alduin isn't better than dagoth however the quests leading to killing alduin are a thousand times better than the extremely boring Morrowind quests until dagoth.
>You can't even ride a horse (or guar) in Morrowind
But you can fly. >They're all fetch quests who get praised for "realism"
Did you do the first quest for the Balmora Mages Guild and nothing else? >Stealth mechanics in Morrowind are dogshit, Skyrim and oblivion did it better with how what you do actually matters, when in moronwind all that matters are your stats
Do you know what an RPG is?
>But you can fly.
And ruin the experience by noticing how the map is miniscule >Muh errrrpeeegeeee experience
If every game I played was all about looking at stats on the screen I'd rather play old school DND.
>You can't even ride a horse (or guar) in Morrowind
And you can't levitate or teleport in Oblivion, which would mitigate the need for a horse. Even if you want to travel overland just fricking make a fortify jump spell which will let you travel MUCH faster than a horse. >They're all fetch quests who get praised for "realism"
You very clearly haven't played the game, it's insanely obvious at this point because only a lying moron would say something like this.

THAT'S LITERALLY ALWAYS THE MORROWIND DEFENSE TACTIC LMAO
>It's meant to be boring >Stats having an effect on outcome, as intended in a RPG about raising and managing stats, is "boring"
Do you also play RTS games and complain that you, personally, don't get to lead the charge in first person and swing your sword around?
Delusional. Compare the first Mages guild quest in Morrowind to Oblivion.
Morrowind: Go collect 20 mushrooms
Oblivion: Go into a well and pick up the ring of burden that will make you drown, the quest is actively malicious and designed to kill you. Because an evil Necromancer decided to prank an intern.
You might try to argue this is somehow cherry picking, it's not. Compare the Fighters guild first quest too. Oblivion has the same quest but literally better and it has a funny twist. This is the trend, not an exception.
True and accurate rating not considering anything mod related,
Best in terms of pure fun
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind
Best in terms of main questing
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind
Best in terms of lore
Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim
Best in side questing
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind
People love Morrowind but it's really bad sometimes (most times), it's a much worse fetch quest fest than Skyrim.
Arena and daggerfall aren't even worth mentioning in 2023 because they're pure pain to play (still cool games tho)
Literally the first objectively correct post i've seen on these threads.
Aside from the Fighter's Guild, the guilds quest lines in Oblivion are so fricking good, blow Morrowid and Skyrim out of the water. Mannimarco just being an elf in a cave was super disappointing though. I basically consider that Mannimarco Revisited mod canon, even though it's a bit over the top, so I usually delete some things in xedit

I loved the fighers guild. Having to deal with a bunch of hardasses as you climb through the ranks, wipe out the competition, and the guy you replace becoming a painter in his little wooden shack was pretty awesome

Are you saying Oblivion is more compelling than Oblivion? Because that certainly is not the case unless we're factoring in Shivering Isles which was a direct response to how fricking boring Oblivion was. Then Skyrim reverted to being fricking boring again. It's like Todd is embarrassed of fantasy and wants to turn it into third rate Tolkien/Game of Thrones.

And both games have fluff for their quests, you just conveniently leave out all the fluff given for Morrowind's quests while padding out Oblivion's as much as possible.
at least the morrowind quest involves some interesting exploration and learning the area. the oblivion quest is basically just an interactive cutscene. oblivion might have more interesting scenarios, but playing them feels less involving.
The first Fighters Guild quest in Oblivion fricking sucks and shows what wrong with the game's quest design. Its a bunch of tedious back and forth, going to talk to the woman in the house, kill the lions in the basement, then go talk to hunter, then follow him as he VERY SLOWLY walks outside of town where you kill a few more lions, then go back to the lady, go back in the basement again and then back up, wait outside her house to catch the lady with meat, then talk to the woman in the house. Theres basically no gameplay in any of this. Its just a bunch of going around, following a quest arrow to talk to another NPC, over and over. It's so fricking drawn out and boring.
The first quest in Morrowind was better, more simple and memorable. Its over fast and it gets the point across. Then you get another quest to go out and find an egg mine, which is cooler.
>>both games massively scale back the complexity of combat and all the shit you can do
whats complex about spamming LMB in morrowind moronic Black person
Holding the button does nothing to hit rate and damage is only increased to the maximum of your weapon's damage i.e. its irrelevant for short blades
I know you morrowtroons have never played the game but don't lie about mechanics.

>Maybe you should have your handler run you through the game mechanics again then since you clearly don't understand them
You're right maybe a game like Oblivion is more my speed
>i.e. its irrelevant for short blades
but thats the point. with short blades you are not meant to hold. you are meant to click. short blades actually have high clicking damage compared to all other weapon types. most long blades, for examples, have only like 1 damage for clicks, whereas short blades have higher. you are meant to click fast and thats where most of the damage comes from, from rapid hits. you just dont get morrowinds mechanics
If you spam you're playing it wrong, but anyway hit chance adds another layer to combat other than just damage sponges clashing. You can say it's not a lot, I say it's still more than skyrim or oblivion had. Skyrim had bashing as a bonus to melee combat, I'll give it that.
Holding the button does nothing to hit rate and damage is only increased to the maximum of your weapon's damage i.e. its irrelevant for short blades
I know you morrowtroons have never played the game but don't lie about mechanics.
Short blade damage can still be about doubled in most cases by charging up the hit and no one mentioned short blades.
Power attacks are objectively a waste of time in oblivion unless you're using it as a finisher.

the morrowtroon is correct.
For the purposes of the demonstration the most efficient way to simply do as much damage as possible in Oblivion is to hammer away at LMB
Technically, weapon type depending, the same is true for morrowind
But that was the point of the demonstration
The point was more a relative power curve. A master in weapon skill can handily defeat low level enemies in a couple of blows. Apply the same to Oblivion and skill alone is insufficient. There are more moving parts, including the inane RNG staggers in Oblivion that will make higher skills on balance far far far more safe than low/no skill. But you're still going to be sitting there whacking away at most things.
Its still different strokes and disingenuous. Oblivion's system is intended to be more normalized, where rather than raw DPS, Oblivion intends for power attacks to be used to gain leverage in encounters that WILL take some time to burn through.
Morrowind is Alpha heavy. Kill it before it can do much of anything. Oblivion is Beta heavy. You (often) can't kill it in one hit, so bring a variety of tools to offset incoming damage, and make the most of your own tools, while still respecting Alpha in threat assessment, making low effective health targets priorities to minimize force multiplier effects form whatever the weaker enemies might bring to the fight, as well as the aforementioned RNG staggers that are so infuriating.
Morrowind has the threat assessment as well - so the Alpha / Beta balance to combat is all a matter of degrees. But they are plainly intended to be very different
10 months ago
Anonymous
>including the inane RNG staggers in Oblivion
they are based on agility and strength
same as in morrowind

why does it feel like leveling up agility and strength does nothing? seriously oblivion played like a staggerfest no matter what my attributes were

depends on which stagger you're talking about
getting blocked will stagger unless you're doing a power attack
>Short blade damage can still be about doubled in most cases by charging up the hit and no one mentioned short blades.
Yes but this is vastly inferior to spamming in most cases because Short Blades can stunlock
We're entering a post-post-contrarian era where Morrowind is considered the "worst" Elder Scrolls game and Oblivion is considered the "best" Elder Scrolls game, all because Morrowind saw a popularity resurgence due to being an actually fun, interesting game. The cycles of contrarianism spin infinitely, like people trying to pretend Fallout 3 is good (it's not).
I'm one of those millennials who played Morrowind after playing Oblivion, and even I consider Morrowind to be the superior game. It's basically just Oblivion with more in-depth game mechanics. Oblivion has a special place in my heart, but it's not a "good" game because of how utterly fricked its combat and world scaling are in combination with each other.
Honestly, take a break and just think about what you wrote. Why is it so important to you what the "majority" think? Is it too hard to have your own likes/dislikes without caring about other peoples opinions? Why does it matter?

morrowind is as popular as it's always been, hyped up mostly by boomers who played on release and seen for the very underwhelming game it is by everyone else.
Forgot one too
Best in terms of exploration
Skyrim (one of the best worlds ever made in a RPG) > Oblivion > Morrowind
>skyrim >one of the best worlds ever made
the world is probably the worst thing about skyrim, all that fricking space and not a single interesting thing to see or do
I've seen a lot of shit opinions but this is just so outwardly contrary to reality that I can't even call it an opinion, you have to be baiting.

NTA but I like maps having some empty "boring" space in them. Otherwise I just feel like I'm in a themepark. If anything I feel like Skyrim doesn't have enough.
>hyped up mostly by boomers who played on release and seen for the very underwhelming game it is by everyone else.
Yeah, all these young people getting into Morrowind because of Dagoth Ur AI memes are all boomers. Fricking moron.
Dagoth Ur AI memes are not Morrowind or TES memes, they are just broader ironic internet memes because Dagoth Ur has a funny voice. Just like the Skyrim "you're finally awake" memes.
I played the TES games in reverse order, played Skyrim when I was a kid and then later Oblivion and Morrowind and eventually Daggerfall (haven't played Arena). And yeah I agree that Morrowind is the best one. I don't really think any of them are bad, although I personally don't like Daggerfall.
Modded skyrim gameplay is always meh to me. It's just adding flourishes to the paddle spanking that vanilla combat is, the most fun thing is more spells but even those rarely wow me and some overhauls are just kinda moronic with what they add
I'm rating games without mods and Battlespire doesn't need to be 'fixed with mods' which puts it well ahead of Oblivion/Skyrim/Arena. I'm also a fan of Julian LeFay and Ted Petersen.
I'm tired of Todd Howard hijacking series and turning them into shit.
It was the last true TES title before Todd hijacked the series.
Contrarian moron doesn't know Todd made both daggerfall and Morrowind and had an enormous role in both games lol
Todd was a junior-associate level programmer during Daggerfall, idiot. Then he almost bankrupted the company with a Tomb Raider-inspired Redguard game and took over the franchise in a desperate last move maneuver with Morrowind.
>Then he almost bankrupted the company with a Tomb Raider-inspired Redguard game and took over the franchise in a desperate last move maneuver with Morrowind.
I am tired of pretending Redguard wasn't good, for it was. Morrowind gays have Redguard to thank for their primary foundation along with Battlespires introduction of Daedric

Redguard was fine but it almost bankrupted the company. That's just a fact. We should've just gotten pic related under LeFay/Petersen. They weren't in a position to do spinoffs yet.

you also have to keep in mind that it was originally going to be a lot like daggerfall in design. as in, a procedurally generated world. when they changed the plan to handcrafted they knew they couldnt make the game so big anymore.
He was certainly project lead on Morrowind but he was only sound design/additional design work for Daggerfall. Morrowind was more his project, Daggerfall was not.
I mean he has credit on them because he worked on most of the games. He joined with daggerfall and took over with redguard and onward, of course he's credited in everything other than Arena. Unless you mean the Fallout games, where his involvement is more up in the air since I think Emil is the lead on those.

emil was just lead design. todd directed 3 and 4
10 months ago
Anonymous
That doesn't really tell us much. Videogame positions aren't as cleanly defined as the movie industry's. Todd was involved with the fallout games but to what extent it's hard to tell because a "game director" could mean anything from "he thought up the general concept for it and let the lead dev create it" to "he oversaw the whole thing as the head of the project".
Anonymous
>he oversaw the whole thing as the head of the project
its this one. "project lead" just got turned into "director". also lead design, according to bethesda, is lead writer because they dont actually have writing positions. its just quest designers writing everything. and if the pr is to be believed, everyone at bgs can toss in quest ideas and get a design credit.
He was a fanboy who joined Bethesda after Arena but initially applied during the production of Arena because he liked their sports and Terminator games. He didn't wield much power in the company until after Daggerfall.
Where are you Daggerfall fans when people say that Skyrim is filled with copy n pasted dungeons or saying Starfield will just be random gen garbage?
posting on rpgcodex instead of this shithole. Say what you will about Daggerfall but they certainly didn't half ass procgen like they did with Skyrim's dungeon tilesets and radiant quests.
Anonymous
>Daggerfall but they certainly didn't half ass procgen
Some dungeon tilesets don't even connect in Daggerfall, it can literally softlock you in certain instances because of poor dungeon procgen.
Well Todd worked on Redguard too didn't he? That solidfied a lot of Morrowinds lore.
Also what kind of mods to you need for Arena but not Daggerfall? They both work fine out of dosbox, just like Battlespire and Redguard.
>Daggerfall >An attempt at actual RPG game with a copy/pasted world >Skyrim >A bland action game with a number treadmill attached with a copy/pasted world
I wonder what the difference between these two games is.
The difference is, Daggerfall did it for a point. It's a bajillion times the size of of Skyrim and designed around that fact.
And if I'm perfectly honest, all Daggerfall needs is more of everything. It doesn't do anything terribly, it just suffered from being made at a time where games were not large enough to support it's ambition.
Daggerfall with more dungeon layouts, cities, npcs, weapons and quests and magic would unironically mog every other TES game in every regard except probably lore, which it is admittedly light on.
I think about that a lot. If they focused on procedural generation so they didn't have to waste time building shitty cities, and they could then invest all that time and several hundred people and infinite skyrim money into just adding content... hundreds of weapons, enemies, indepth npc interactions, cities that actually feel like cities... all that would be possible, instead of the half-assed excuse of procedural generation we have now, which are literally just MMO quests. I don't know why they even bother with the 'radiant' shit anymore, it's just pathetic. Either do it right or don't do it at all.
Is that the Wayward Realms game I read about the other day? It looked really cool, but these smaller projects, especially the really ambitious ones, never seem to go anywhere. I hope it does, though. Tired of modern RPGs being basically just Bethesda, who are extremely incompetent, or most other devs who are just making movie games.

>Is that the Wayward Realms game I read about the other day?
thats ted peterson's and julian lefey's new game.
>Wayward Realms
Jesus fricking christ - Lefay said something along the lines of "I want this to be the greatest RPG ever created". Yet it's been in pre-production/development/who the frick knows for almost 5 years now? Their Steam page consists of 2 cg trailers and a collection of "in-game screenshots" that basically amount to a few scenes made of (likely) store-bought 3D assets.
In all likelihood the game doesn't exist.
Eh, AI's overhyped. It still is just a fancy autocomplete and people need to understand that. It's just the latest fad, like VR was a couple of years back. Everyone was talking about Skyrim VR back then too and how the time was finally here.
Then Skyrim VR actually came out and people went 'oh...'.

What does VR have to do with Ai? VR is a consumer product, it doesn't improve/speed up game development in any way (apart from some very niche applications). Ai, on the other hand, is a tool that helps game development,
I literally uninstalled Morrowind the minute I tried making a pure mage and the game expected me to spam the same spell for 15 real life minutes in order to level up, and to do this a few times before I was even able to function as a character
Never uninstalled a game that fast. Even Oblivion's moronic level scaling is less shit.
Made a character, picked from one of the default classes and b-lined it to the first mudcrab I saw the second I left the census office. I cannot fathom how the frick you failed at this.
No, Anon you don't get it your supposed to take that Iron Dagger from the census office with zero points in short blade and try to kill the mudcrab with 0 fatigue
People complaining they can't play 'their class' in Morrowind is because they literally aren't playing 'their class'. They're doing all of the innane min-max bullshit to maximize stats where
I'm 23 and I got into morrowind a few years ago. It wasn't because of memes though.
is possible
Morrowind, unlike Oblivion, doesn't require by any stretch, the system be gained.
Tips for new players
Ignore the 'guides' telling you how to game the level ups.
Make a class you want to play, then play it.
Do not level by 'grinding' skills - pay someone to train you; Gold is XP.
Stat maxing is bullshit in morrowind. There are so many completely legit organic ways of getting such complete obscene stats in Morrowind, not even talking about the stacked fortify speed spells, that to agonize over +5 attribute gains is to take home the wrong lessons from a game that is otherwise very intelligently balanced to accommodate someone who really does not know how to play it.

Both those webms are mine kek. That character wasn't min maxed, I just wanted to make a speed spell for fun. It's not actually practical to use, jumping is the superior transportation method.
Just did a vanilla run a few months ago unmodded. No mods are necessary at all, the systems work perfectly in the mechanics the game set for itself. I cannot imagine how fricking moronic a person has to be to get filtered by Morrowind.
>copy n pasted content bad when Skyrim does it >Copy n pasted content good when other game does it
But then you get the cope saying this copy n pasted content is somehow better. And in this hypothetical situation full of hypothetical things would actually be better.
Daggerfall's dungeons have scale and quantity. Skyrim's dungeons are hand crafted so you'd expect them to have quality instead, but no they're mostly copy pasted trash too, and made by a much bigger studio with much more advanced technology. And I don't even like Daggerfall dungeons to begin with.
And there's plenty of layout differences in the dungeons with some environmental story telling in Skyrim dungeons. But dungeons are bad in just Skyrim and no other TES game.
>TES6 will be a shitshow because it'll be official paid CC mods only.
Bullshit. Even if that happened, which it wouldn't, jailbroken mods would exist and it would just reinforce the desire for something like OpenTES6 to exist.
CC was a failure, anniversary edition was their last attempt to recoup the losses they took on it. They're going to do it for Starfield as well, hoping that it'll be better if it's in the game from the start, but I doubt they'll ever have the balls to go CC only and cut modders out.
Modders still need an SDK and even if Bethesda attempted to do some sort of application process, it'd be leaked within 24 hours of the first team being given access to it. Then you'd have jailbroken mods. Never going to fricking happen.
This might be an unpopular sentiment but I don't take issue with modders getting paid via CC or even a Nexus paywall. I just dislike the 50/50 split.
Some of the best content in ARMA is done by paid modders as creator DLCs.
i dont have a problem with modders getting commissioned by bethesda for paid mods, but id never buy them. all the CC content is bad. if bethesda wants people to pay for mods, they need to be by and large better than the free ones.
SureAI no longer has the rights to Enderal apparently, it's why there are no plans to nake a third entry and why the lead writer had to rewrite his spinoff book into removing all references to the Vyn setting.
Morrowind is great frick the rest. I don't see why one good game means you have to play something that's similarly named. You'd be better off playing the best game from every series than trying to play through every series.
Honestly Oblivion. I was thinking about how lame skyrim was as a fantasy world last night actually. It was all "cool" viking and dragon stuff. No whimsy, barely any thought into what a player would actually want to do, just whatever "immersion" they could cram into their teenage power fantasy. In retrospect the haunted manor you could buy, the extensive mages guild recommendation questline, the interesting dark brotherhood, the varied environments, the painted world, the vampire duke, etc. Oblivion was full of whimsical cool shit all over the place hidden in plain sight and you could really get lost in it. I remember getting completely lost in becoming the grand champion and getting burnt out on fighting minotaurs so I went wandering around randomly fighting shit before finding the invisible village quest randomly. It was fricking awesome. Skyrim has none of that. Morrowind has stuff sort of like that but instead of being cool it's all troonyshit. Daggerfall is like an overly realistic life simulator and arena is neat but it plays like ass. Oblivion really is the peak
tl;dr Oblivion was the best because it wasn't trying to be some immersive living breathing world. It was just trying to be a cool fantasy world full of adventure and fun which is what games are all about
They have zero roleplaying value. All they have is interesting concepts that you remember because you played the game when you were younger, but the actual execution is lame as frick.
Made a character based around wearing simple clothes and using bound armor, but quickly realized how shit it was because no enchantments, wish the enchantments of whatever you were wearing stayed.
my current char is a redguard call "black palpatine" (he's actually named Black person)
i have shield on a robe, a necklace, and a ring iirc, and cast shield spells. my guy is like level 14 and my acrobatics and speed are maxed, so i zoom around shooting lighting or fire at my enemies and occasionally whacking them with a claymore before hopping away
i have to switch between spell menus so often i might have to get a mod for more hotkeys its more stupid than fun, but fun nonetheless, my guy is invincible
if i need to enchant something i can either enchant it at the guild or just bumrush a random oblivion gate in 5 minutes for a sigil stone (i can outrun anything)
Oblivion ruined vidya. Add a compass and quest markers, suddenly immersion is removed from games forever. Open-world were useless from that point on, just a gimmick.
Either that or all the memes are 100% real and zoomers are precisely as fricking moronic as we all suspected and shit on Morrowind because it utterly defeated them.
>When you have people jerking off garbage like Oblivion it might be time to recognize that elder scrolls threads are bad.
Once you realize that the majority of modern RPG players like to play their games like a robot it makes a lot more sense, just picture the guy who plays a MP FPS by aimlessly running around the map looking for people to shoot until the match ends.
I hate skyrimtards so much
I know that no one worthwhile is being distracted by Skyrim modding anymore these days but jesus christ this is the best they can do?
I just don't get it. When I play Bethesda games I just use basic mods that tweak gameplay and fix things and maybe some visual improvements. Why not just play a better game if you're gonna try to turn it into a different experience that looks like a total clusterfrick of clashing features and visuals?
eso works fine on controller, especially with oakensoul so you don't have to bar swap (you only get 5 abilities on one bar and have to switch between two weapons to access another 5), im assuming eso was actually made with a console port in mind, as i said the UI is dogshit on it though, not sure why they dont let you use the KB+M one with some changes

Just saying there's no reason to not put MMORPGs on consoles anymore if input isn't a limiting factor. Consoles are more powerful than 99% of MMO players PCs.
TESO's combat is pretty garbage dude
but running around and exploring and doing whatever makes up for it
>TESO's combat is pretty garbage dude
So is skyrim's but at least you have abilities and dodge in TESO

problem with eso is the abilities are mostly unsatisfying
i got the game a few months ago and picked necromancer without looking anything up, i assumed it would be about summoning the dead, instead it's mostly just stupid halloween visuals magic shit.
wouldn't be so bad if they let you change class, but the devs are so greedy they dont let you so that you might buy some of the crown store boost shit
Even if you genuinely believed that, why wouldn't you go for TESO with 100x the content and better combat? I assume we're judging unmodded. TESO is just Skyrim with multiplayer, more content and better lore.
the perfect game would be something between daggerfall and morrowind. daggerfall is too procedural and bloated, but morrowind is a little too scaled down and simplified. sadly they never hit that sweet spot. i like both though
That was the plan for Morrowind in 1997
800sqkm vs 50,000sqkm
more handcrafted tiles/content less bloat
see
Redguard was fine but it almost bankrupted the company. That's just a fact. We should've just gotten pic related under LeFay/Petersen. They weren't in a position to do spinoffs yet.
I love the look of dread delusion but I don't really like the gameplay that much, especially with shit like floating coins and whatnot which just remind me of old shovelware games.
>Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
I guess not if they can pull it off but I get the feeling its going to be very uninspired >Morrowind was just india with mushrooms.
lol
Am I the only who hates how in all the TES games starting from Morrowind you can become the guildmaster of all the guilds? I think in the next game you should be able allowed to only join one or two factions MAX and allowed to be guildmaster of only one of them. It'll increase replay ability and honestly isn't that what you want to do in a tes game? start off with an imperial warrior, then make a breton mage and then make a khajit stealth archer. ALSO I think that the daedric artifacts should have a big consequence for your character especially the artifacts for the purely evil gods. I say this because I always thought it was cool in oblivion and skyrim when you met someone noteworthy for the first time they'd ask you who you are and you could respond with "I am the archmage of the mages guild" there should be more of that. who the frick thinks its COOL to be the leader of all the guilds? its stupid, gay and something a nerd who gets bullied and escapes into anime think is a cool idea.
becoming a guildmaster has always felt gimmicky to me. theres just no way an adventurer could convincingly lead a guild. to lead a guild you have to be there all the time. i dont know why everyone feels like you always have to lead it eventually. cant you just be a part of a faction?
When did Daggerfall stop you from doing? You can't join every religious order or knighthood but that's like the Great Houses or Civil war.
Why would the majority of the guilds turn down membership from you if you're a part of an unrelated non-rival guild?
I haven't played any of these games without a good amount of mods so I can't judge them properly. My Oblivion didn't have awful level scaling nor did it force me to minmax like everyone else is saying.
I did notice one big flaw in Oblivion coming from Morrowind that nobody else has mentioned here: no transportation methods. Morrowind has striders, boats, Mages guild transportation and more. Oblivion has none of these. There is no way to quickly get around the world without opening the map to fast travel. It completely destroys my immersion. I had to get a mod that lets you teleport from Mages Guild's teleporters between cities because I got sick of fast travel. Oblivion also has no enchanters to make enchanted items for you and I hate doing it myself because I'm not a nerd who uses magic.
The biggest improvement I noticed from Morrowind to Oblivion is NPCs and stores having schedules. In Morrowind everyone just stands around 24/7. It's unsettling.
The fast travel debate has been talked about to death which is probably why no one brought it up. But yeah I agree that the lack of travel options sucks. Some people say "well fast travel is optional, if you want the morrowind experience just don't use it", because they haven't played morrowind and don't realize that it had fast travel, just in more interesting ways than instant teleports to any location you've ever visited.
I do agree about the npc behaviors and schedules being an improvement. It makes thieving a lot better too, every shop in town doesn't just have a guard randomly standing in it to monitor every square inch 24/7 like in morrowind. I wish the old chance based lockpicking was still in the game, mostly because it was real time so with the more dynamic npcs it could make breaking into houses or containers a more risky venture.
Modded Oblviion is the best game by far. I can't even start the game until I get better textures, weather, flora, faces, and street lamps. I love me some Gas Lamps out in lonesome roads of Cyrodiil.
I just checked nexus mods for the first time in years and can't find a lamp post mod though? In fact it seems to have way less mods then it did when I was modding back in like 2012. Wtf happened?
yes this is the one. Thank you anon. It always reminds me of Narnia with the Lamp post in the snow at the start of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Oblivion fans are completely delusional. Oblivion was probably their first RPG they played on Xbox when they were kids so they have intense nostalgia for it.
>directional attacks in daggerfall >each direction has a hit rate and damage modifier with overhead attacks doing more damage but thrusts being more accurate >morrowind completely guts this and just assigns damage numbers randomly to directional attacks
This is what morrowtroons actually think is complex and got "dumbed down" in later games which had proper power attacks with different attributes based on your skill level LIKE A FRICKING RPG SHOULD
Oblivion is the comfiest and best side missions, Morrowind presents the most interesting game world with random neat stuff to stumble upon and best main quest, Daggerfall is the most interesting experimentally, Skyrim is the most modern. They almost all contribute something as they’re all very different games
>For pure rpg autism? Morrowind
why would you waste your time with toddslop if you want to play an RPG?
mongowind doesn't even have party members or proper classes
>there are people that geniuenly finished all
i couldnt even force myself to finish skyrim
i acquired almost the best gear possible within like 30 hours and i finished only like 20-30% of the game
monsters scaled, i didnt, everyone become super tanky bullet sponge and game became boring af, couldnt force myself to finish even tho im super patient
>there is literally no way to scale after a certain point in skyrim
the game where you can make bows which do 1000+ damage is the one where the player will get outscaled
you're literally too moronic for skyrim lmao
Morrowind > Daggerfall > Oblivion > Skyrim > Arena
troony
Oblivion's level scaling ruins the game and Skyrim has the worst writing in the whole franchise. Even Arena with its simplistic plot is better.
>muh level scaling
Filtered
What's the point of leveling up if the challenge stays the same with scaling?
Filtered by not playing through the whole game at level 1 lmao. That said the scaling is bad but not as bad as people make it out to be. I just recently did a new playthrough and it's really not that bad IF you get the sigil stone enchantments from the oblivion gates and enchant your weapon with it.
the game is a lot easier if you know how to work around scaling and abuse spells and alchemy, but on a blind playthrough i can definitely see how people get filtered, cuz i did as a kid
filtered by what? shitty game mechanics? then yes, absolutely filtered. nice selfie btw.
you're a gay
Argue without buzzwords or piss off

This. Objectively correct.
>objectively
>proceeds to shit out the most contrarian reply
always
>morrowindgay trying "it was better then daggerfall, but dagerfall is the second best game, so no war :)"
stfu
I would consider daggerfall a 0/10 game, so any game below it would not be worth playing, and daggerfall itself is not worth playing, so I guess elder scrolls as a series just sucks and we can all move on to better things.
Not sure about Daggerfall
My post was defending Skyrim but I guess you just think the term “Morrotroon” is really clever and want an excuse to spam the thread with it as much as possible
>morrowtroon doesn't understand english
HRT is turning your brain into mush
Find me the term morrowtroon in an English dictionary then you annoying homosexual
At what point will you realise you’re as much of a freak as the trannies that occupy such a large space in your mind with about as a good a chance at ever having offspring
>n-no you're the freak
dilate suicide victim
I never said trannies weren’t freaks I’m just saying you’d fit right into their motley crew
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind > Daggerfall > Arena
This was exactly my impression trying to play Daggerfall for the first time. Spending hours and hours travelling through copy paste towns and procedurally generated dungeons wasn't fun at all.
And then you realize that 80% of content in Oblivion and Skyrim might as well be copy/pasted, except there are a couple of notable, unique landmarks inbetween and *some* of the quests are more elaborate.
There is barely any material difference between one Draugr tomb and another.
I would rather have non Euclidean procedural madness of daggerfall to handmade straignt blandness of Skyrim or even oblivion.
skyrim overall > oblivion for quests > morrowind for sovl > everything else
>overall
>quests
>sovl
ENTER
You haven't played Daggerfall
And people who mod Skyrim haven't played Skyrim what's your point
NTA but yes I have, from the shitty dos version to the current unity version. You're just plain wrong.
How can one man be so wrong.
Morrowind overall > oblivion for quests > daggerfall for pure gameplay> Skyrim is shit in everything
>Skyrim is shit in everything
Skyrim for modding. Anyone who says Skyrim is the best has modded it extensively.
Semi true, i'll give you that.
skyrim looks the best, every scene worthy of screenshotting, best physics engine for moving of items in the world, ragdols and similar ensuring cool effects with magic and shouts, voice acting and better controls than morrowind, mods to change whatever you want etc.
Sprinting is clunky as frick and you cant turn while sprinting
>overall stories and missions were horrible
Name one good quest in Morrowind.
Morrowind is good because of the lore and imersion. Skyrim has more sovl than all the others Bethesda games.
I've been playing Oblivion lately.
>saw a mudcrab the other day
Isn't Leyawiin also the shittiest city in Cyrodiil? This image explains a lot.
It's Bravil
All of my b***hes are Tsaeci
All of your gang is from Leyawiin
Daggerfall and Morrowind are the only good ones
those are the worst ones
Arena > none of the others matter
.
Oblivion is my guilty pleasure, Adoring Fan is my fricking guy and I have 145 hours. But even I know it's the worst of the main three
>Literally nothing to do outside of the cities, absolutely zero reason to explore random dungeons, the cities will point you to every worthwhile quest.
>Core gameplay element of spellcrafting and enchanting is locked behind the Mage's guild questline, ALL of your characters will end up doing it to stay relevant late game
>Level scaling
>Lore got absolutely gutted for the LOTR aesthetic, the Cyrodillic culture infects everyone like the plague and every race acts the same. no Nibenease Jungle Japs, you would never guess the Nibenu river borders Elsywhere and the Black Marsh
>145 hours
fricking kek this Black hasn't even CHIM'd yet
Are you like 15 or something? Or did you mean 1,045?
lol another wrong summary of things about Oblivion
many such cases.
the first one you played
Morrowind > Daggerfall > Rest are shit
Morrowind, im playing it on xbox rn for the pure sovl t. posting this from my xbox
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind > didn't play the rest
I wish oblivion unarmed was more focused on the power attack side effects because the actual damage is shit
>people unironically getting filtered by Morrowind
How old are you people? You deserve the cesspit that is Skyrim.
filtered? by what? horrible quests, shitty world that is constantly filled with fog to mask the bad render distance or pretentious main story? DLCs were awful as well and you know you fricked up when you get it worse than Skyrim DLCs.
>unironically bringing up graphics to justify not liking a video game
underage detected
>rendering distance
>graphics
holy shit the moronness to call someone underage when you prove to be underage yourself right away kek
>you see the rendering distance just didn't impress me
>haha gotcha rendering isn't really the graphics as you refereed to them, you see what it really is
stfu nerd homosexual. if they made the game comfy from what they were able to do and if lowering the rendering distance achieved that then thats good. No I don't want to see a town for 20 minutes as I walk to it. I want to feel like its far away when it eventually renders on my screen
not understanding this vibe immediately is the apex sign of being a tasteless homosexual
Seeing the walls when you're hitting your face on them is not realistic, Skyrim did what you're saying better.
you're genuinely moronic congratz.
>rendering distance is not related to graphical limitations
based moronbro
probably autistic even
It's Daggerfall.
I look forward to playing it one day.
It's fricking free on GoG right now you moron.
It's been free for over a decade moron
daggerfall seems cool but morrowind looks like some eat pray love faux "muh Buddhism" bullshit fit for a college girls nightstand, so miss me with that one.
Skyrim > Morrowind > Oblivion
if it's not Todd's, i ain't playing it
do morrowind fans fail the captcha 5 times before posting?
the frick? morrowind is a boomer game, not a troonygame, is it? b-bros?
Daggerfall
>biggest empty world in the history of video games
>a lot of unpolished and underutilized RPG mechanics, skills and spells to the point that they look like afterthoughts
Instead of polishing world design, skills and mechanics, Todd made Morrowind
>several skills removed
>world is magnitudes smaller but is more packed with things to discover, explore and enjoy
>still several skills, spells and mechanics that are underutilized to the point of looking like they were afterthoughts
>balancing issue which some will consider a good thing and others a negative thing
The player can easily do away with the "character progression" by exploiting AI, enchantment and alchemy which Todd attempted to address in Oblivion
>separate soundtracks for towns, the open world, combat and dungeons
>towns have to be in separate cells to space console hardware
>dynamic AI is a huge jump from NPCs following a short patrol route and just being in one place
>physics
>level scaling renders character progression useless
>terrible voice acting
>terrible writing with the exception of a handful of questlines
Oblivion suffers an identity crisis between being an RPG and an action game and ended up failing at being both. It continues in Skyrim
>Oblivion but graphically less painful to look at
>same terrible voice acting
>same terrible writing
>reused the dragon model from Oblivion because why not
>yet more skills and mechanics removed instead of being refined
Dragonborn is basically a Karen that shouts at the world to get what he wants
In terms of RPG, Daggerfall is the best
In terms of accessibility, Skyrim is the best
Morrowind is the overall best regardless. It's accessible to people who've played lots of RPGs and they hate it while it makes zoomers seethe by basically being and old game
>Dragonborn is basically a Karen that shouts at the world to get what he wants
This is what Nords are supposed to be in the actual lore
well they are, just look at Ulfric Cuckcloak
Thanks, gonna use this in the next "Which Elder Scrolls game is the worst" thread.
I think Skyrim has the best tech but bad writing and Morrowind has the best writing but bad tech, I think the middle ground would be Oblivion so my answer is Oblivion!
Morrowind > Oblivion > who cares
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind > shit
Any tips for Arena? Just started as a Knight and I'm getting my ass kicked in Stonekeep.
Save scum artifact quests from NPCs for the Troll's Blood Amulet. Knight completely removes its only downside because Knight auto repairs all their gear.
Skyrim Modded or Morrowind, you can skip the rest
Not Skyrim, that's for sure.
The one I played the most.
Skyrim > Morrowind > Oblivion > Daggerfall > Arena
do obliviongays even know what people want out of games? or do they think everyone should have their deluded nostalgia? RPGs in the 80s had better mechanics than oblivion
If we're talking unmodded? Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind = Daggerfall >>>>>>>>>
and redguard
Modded would be Skyrim > Oblivion > Daggerfall > Morrowind.
not a single person gives a frick about any of Oblivion's mechanics. You know what it has that most of those other RPGs don't? Flavour and charm.
>Flavour and charm.
Yeah diluted, bargain bin Lord of the Rings sure is flavour and charm
>le everything fantasy is bargain lotr
read a book you illiterate neckbeard
the irony of your post is that TES lore is much more interesting than lotr lore and is actually one of it's strongest points.
They literally retconned Cyrodill from an Aztec jungle into something closer to Middle-Earth precisely to cash in on LotR hype
You mean that piece of trivia that was never shown and only mentioned after a massive warp and changing of the game's lore?
Yea, you really care about it. How much of tamerial would just be jungles if they kept this? More than half?
>read a book
>puts oblivion & skyrim over morrowind
You don't make a whole lot of sense
>Flavour
>oblivion
TES IV Cyrodiil tastes like pasta water and diet coke
>If we're talking unmodded? Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind = Daggerfall >>>>>>>>>
and redguard
Dogshit take lmao
this is what i ask but about Morrowtroons since they're so delusional and the MOST affected by nostalgia by far out of any ES game.
>since they're so delusional and the MOST affected by nostalgia by far out of any ES game.
RPGs from the late 80s to early 90s had better mechanics and settings than RPGs now.
Late 90s visual novels ruined rpgs
I honestly just love oblivion because it was my first tes and real first pc game. OST is top tier though and the world is comfy.
>do obliviongays even know what people want out of games?
They want to play the game on auto pilot mode
I didn't play oblivion when I was a kid but I still appreciate it's charm.
Depends on what you're looking for/can handle.
Morrowind is best for the power fantasies and breaking the game, Oblivion is the best if you care about factions and characters, Skyrim is the best if you care about modding and exploration. The rest are ignorable.
Wrong. Oblivion and Skyrim are both Morrowind but worse.
Morrowind was best for its time.
Oblivion kinda sucked but Shivering Isles was good.
Skyrim was overall best. yeah I know that's a normie take. the expansions were even better.
>the expansions were even better.
Only Dragonborn was any good. Dawnguard was complete and total dogshit.
>Morrowind was best for its time.
what the frick are you morons smoking
Gothic 1 was released before morrowind and gothic 2 was released at the same time as morrowind
For me it's Oblivion because it's the first one I played and was really easy to reach Chameleon 100%
They each suck In their own ways.
Daggerfall > Morrowind
The Elder Scrolls Travels: Shadowkey
EKA2L emulator runs it just fine, both on desktop and on phone
It is one of the only 3 games that has built-in multiplayer (other two being Battlespire and ESO, TES3MP is not built-in)
and EKA2L is able to convert this bluetooth connection for N-Gage to network or internet connection, so we can play it now as if we were in 2005 with taco phones in the same room
and EKA2L allows you to bind controls, so on PC you can define something that resembles standard FPS controls
Oblivion for me but holy shit I really don’t get the vitriol directed at Skyrim.
True and accurate rating not considering anything mod related,
Best in terms of pure fun
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind
Best in terms of main questing
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind
Best in terms of lore
Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim
Best in side questing
Oblivion > Skyrim > Morrowind
People love Morrowind but it's really bad sometimes (most times), it's a much worse fetch quest fest than Skyrim.
Arena and daggerfall aren't even worth mentioning in 2023 because they're pure pain to play (still cool games tho)
Forgot one too
Best in terms of exploration
Skyrim (one of the best worlds ever made in a RPG) > Oblivion > Morrowind
>Oblivion and Skyrim above Morrowind in terms of pure fun
>both games massively scale back the complexity of combat and all the shit you can do
>combat is Oblivion is dogshit samey paddle whacking and Skyrim is even worse, not even the power attacks do unique shit anymore
>All the shit you can do
You can't even ride a horse (or guar) in Morrowind
>Quests are better in Morrowind
They're all fetch quests who get praised for "realism"
>Assassinate in unique ways
Stealth mechanics in Morrowind are dogshit, Skyrim and oblivion did it better with how what you do actually matters, when in moronwind all that matters are your stats
>Alduin better than dagoth
And ruin the experience by noticing how the map is miniscule
>Muh errrrpeeegeeee experience
If every game I played was all about looking at stats on the screen I'd rather play old school DND.
>Play game ostensibly about managing, raising and focusing on stats
>"Erm why do my stats have an effect on outcomes?"
>YOU CAN MAKE GAME BREAKING SPELLS WHO ARE BASICALLY USELESS IN THE GAME
>It's meant to be boring
>dude it's meant to be boring
THAT'S LITERALLY ALWAYS THE MORROWIND DEFENSE TACTIC LMAO
>It's meant to be boring
>Stats having an effect on outcome, as intended in a RPG about raising and managing stats, is "boring"
Do you also play RTS games and complain that you, personally, don't get to lead the charge in first person and swing your sword around?
>MMO quests are le fun .. because they are ok!? ( its ok when Morrowind does it )
it's also okay when oblivion does it (and even more blandly), apparently.
you haven't played the game troon
Literally the first objectively correct post i've seen on these threads.
Ring of Burden quest makes no sense, did that dumb motherfricker nord not realize the ring he was given weighed 200 pounds?
i didn't either when i first did the quest
my dad pointed me in the right direction
Aside from the Fighter's Guild, the guilds quest lines in Oblivion are so fricking good, blow Morrowid and Skyrim out of the water. Mannimarco just being an elf in a cave was super disappointing though. I basically consider that Mannimarco Revisited mod canon, even though it's a bit over the top, so I usually delete some things in xedit
I loved the fighers guild. Having to deal with a bunch of hardasses as you climb through the ranks, wipe out the competition, and the guy you replace becoming a painter in his little wooden shack was pretty awesome
I still like it, just weaker than the other 3. The plot is good, but it has the most generic quests.
> I basically consider that Mannimarco Revisited mod canon
Yep.
>Morrowind: fetch quest, but I leave out the fluff
>Oblivion: fetch quest, but I leave in the fluff
Impressive
the fluff is what makes games compelling
Are you saying Oblivion is more compelling than Oblivion? Because that certainly is not the case unless we're factoring in Shivering Isles which was a direct response to how fricking boring Oblivion was. Then Skyrim reverted to being fricking boring again. It's like Todd is embarrassed of fantasy and wants to turn it into third rate Tolkien/Game of Thrones.
the side quests are, the main quest in morrowind is full of fluff, that's why it's more interesting than the majority of its sidequests
Side quests have fluff too. The naked nords as an example.
some do, but there's quite a lot of fairly straight forward ones
I mean yes but even the straight forward ones have fluff.
Then you get another quest to go out and find an egg mine, which is cooler.
>>both games massively scale back the complexity of combat and all the shit you can do
whats complex about spamming LMB in morrowind moronic Black person
>spamming LMB
Heres a tip if you hold your melee attack for about 1 sec it does significantly more damage and is more likely to hit.
Holding the button does nothing to hit rate and damage is only increased to the maximum of your weapon's damage i.e. its irrelevant for short blades
I know you morrowtroons have never played the game but don't lie about mechanics.
>I know you morrowtroons have never played the game but don't lie about mechanics.
I'm playing the game right now but hey I don't skim wikis to learn game mechanics I just play and see what I notice.
>I'm playing the game right now
Maybe you should have your handler run you through the game mechanics again then since you clearly don't understand them
Keep clinging on to that nitpick
Short blade damage can still be about doubled in most cases by charging up the hit and no one mentioned short blades.
why didn't you use your power attacks which you unlock at higher skill levels disingenous morrowtroon?
Power attacks are objectively a waste of time in oblivion unless you're using it as a finisher.
They are a waste of time when you want to be a disingenuous morrowtroon I'll give you that.
Power attacks drain way too much stamina to be worth it since stamina effects your damage.
the morrowtroon is correct.
But they are plainly intended to be very different
>including the inane RNG staggers in Oblivion
they are based on agility and strength
same as in morrowind
why does it feel like leveling up agility and strength does nothing? seriously oblivion played like a staggerfest no matter what my attributes were
depends on which stagger you're talking about
getting blocked will stagger unless you're doing a power attack
>Short blade damage can still be about doubled in most cases by charging up the hit and no one mentioned short blades.
Yes but this is vastly inferior to spamming in most cases because Short Blades can stunlock
Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim >>> Daggerfall > Arena
oblivion > morrowind > daggerfall > skyrim
>Noticing things means they are "important" to me
Where did I say that? Well, you have awakened my sense of reason, o sage. Going forward, I shall NEVER notice ANYTHING in my life. I shall simply become solipsistic and insular, and never, ever notice what trends occur in society. Your intelligence is clearly of such a level that arguing with you would leave me positively bereft of rhetoric, you absolute titan of intellect.
Cant even hold a normal conversation and discussion without going into a "me vs. him" -mode. Sad state of modern affairs.
>Make a disingenuous, condescending post
>Receive a condescending, disingenuous response
Okay. have a nice day. That's all.
This, it's that kind of poster who's killing Ganker
Seems like you guys are unable to control your emotions and reactions. Not everything you see online or in real life has to trigger a strong reaction. You need to grow up.
I am extremely calm right now doe
>Honestly, take a break and just think about what you wrote
bleed out to death holy shit
>Already popular game gets new wave of underage morons that missed all discussion of the original force their way into every faucet of discussion
>Older fans retaliate by redirecting all discussion to less popular game. Making discussion more fresh
>gays are upset since the spotlight is stolen from them
If Bethesda fans weren't so autistic this would be the gold standard for series discussion
there was no popularity resurgence, stop making shit up
morrowind is as popular as it's always been, hyped up mostly by boomers who played on release and seen for the very underwhelming game it is by everyone else.
>skyrim
>one of the best worlds ever made
the world is probably the worst thing about skyrim, all that fricking space and not a single interesting thing to see or do
I've seen a lot of shit opinions but this is just so outwardly contrary to reality that I can't even call it an opinion, you have to be baiting.
Everyone who thinks Skyrim has nothing interesting probably thinks the IRL wilderness Is boring too, every skyrim dungeon has a story, grow up.
>dude it's meant to be boring
frick off, seriously
brainrotted moron
>all these young people
what fricking young people you schizo? who are these 'people' you claim are getting into Morrowind? There is literally 0 evidence of this. Do you see some shitty meme online and automatically think 'omg game is popular!!'?
NTA but I like maps having some empty "boring" space in them. Otherwise I just feel like I'm in a themepark. If anything I feel like Skyrim doesn't have enough.
I got into Morrowind when I was 15 or 16, and that was one or two years after Oblivion released.
nvm I must have been 12 or so. Damn time flies.
I'm 23 and I got into morrowind a few years ago. It wasn't because of memes though.
And if my grandmother had wheels, she'd be a bike.
You doing something isn't evidence of anything.
>young people aren't playing morrowind!
>"I am"
>n-no that doesn't count
your grandmother's a batty c**t and I would push her down a staircase any day
>evidence of something isn't evidence of anything
atheists
>hyped up mostly by boomers who played on release and seen for the very underwhelming game it is by everyone else.
I don't really think any of them are bad, although I personally don't like Daggerfall.
i've been saying fallout 3 is better than NV for nearly a decade now
Well you've ben wrong for over a decade now, props for sticking with it though.
>i've been saying fallout 3 is better than NV for nearly a decade now
Oblivion is KING
Morrowind troons and Skyrim normgroids will never get it but it's okay
GODblivion chads always win and i say that as someone whose first Elder Scrolls was Skyrim.
Morrowind for the story and uniqueness, modded Skyrim for best gameplay,
It really is like that. Oblivion is like the ugly little sister of both, because everything it does either morrowind or Skyrim do it better.
Modded skyrim gameplay is always meh to me. It's just adding flourishes to the paddle spanking that vanilla combat is, the most fun thing is more spells but even those rarely wow me and some overhauls are just kinda moronic with what they add
Oblivion is my fav, followed by Arena. It’ll always be Todd’s real opus.
Fallout 3
Daggerfall>Morrowind>Battlespire>Oblivion>Arena>Skyrim
Battlespire, really. I liked the game too, but I wouldn't put it over Oblivion, Arena or Skyrim I think. What makes you like it so?
I'm rating games without mods and Battlespire doesn't need to be 'fixed with mods' which puts it well ahead of Oblivion/Skyrim/Arena. I'm also a fan of Julian LeFay and Ted Petersen.
I'm tired of Todd Howard hijacking series and turning them into shit.
i need to try battlespire one day.
It looks fun
It was the last true TES title before Todd hijacked the series.
They weren't in a position to do spinoffs yet.
true, but wow is this the legit 96 plan? Considering the game was originally supposed to release in 97?
Yep and it was meant to compete with Ultima Online where actual players could inherit the lives of NPCs in an optional online mode/MMO spinoff.
you also have to keep in mind that it was originally going to be a lot like daggerfall in design. as in, a procedurally generated world. when they changed the plan to handcrafted they knew they couldnt make the game so big anymore.
Contrarian moron doesn't know Todd made both daggerfall and Morrowind and had an enormous role in both games lol
Todd is a dumb homosexual and you're even worse for pretending otherwise because of a shitty meme.
Todd worked on Daggerfall but he didn't have a very influential position at the time. He was the lead on Morrowind though.
>Todd made both daggerfall and Morrowind
He was certainly project lead on Morrowind but he was only sound design/additional design work for Daggerfall. Morrowind was more his project, Daggerfall was not.
Todd has a credit on most of the games I think. A special thanks at the very least in some
I mean he has credit on them because he worked on most of the games. He joined with daggerfall and took over with redguard and onward, of course he's credited in everything other than Arena. Unless you mean the Fallout games, where his involvement is more up in the air since I think Emil is the lead on those.
emil was just lead design. todd directed 3 and 4
That doesn't really tell us much. Videogame positions aren't as cleanly defined as the movie industry's. Todd was involved with the fallout games but to what extent it's hard to tell because a "game director" could mean anything from "he thought up the general concept for it and let the lead dev create it" to "he oversaw the whole thing as the head of the project".
>he oversaw the whole thing as the head of the project
its this one.
He didn't wield much power in the company until after Daggerfall.
posting on rpgcodex instead of this shithole. Say what you will about Daggerfall but they certainly didn't half ass procgen like they did with Skyrim's dungeon tilesets and radiant quests.
This is my exact list, except Skyrim is at the front.
Where are you Daggerfall fans when people say that Skyrim is filled with copy n pasted dungeons or saying Starfield will just be random gen garbage?
What do you mean "where are we?" Skyrim IS filled with copy/pasted dungeons and Starfield WILL just be random gen garbage.
They've said that Starfield locations will be hand crafted, but where they're placed will be random and procedural.
>Daggerfall
>An attempt at actual RPG game with a copy/pasted world
>Skyrim
>A bland action game with a number treadmill attached with a copy/pasted world
I wonder what the difference between these two games is.
Daggerfall was done by like ten people for a million dollars. Imagine what they could do with modern tools/compute even with a AA budget.
Sean Murray is working on a medieval fantasy equivalent to No Man's Sky I believe. Maybe you'll see something sort of similar to Daggerfall one day.
Wayward Realms is bullshit. I won't believe it until I see it in action. That discord is just people pretending to gamedev and posting their ideas for someone to actually do in their own games unrelated to wayward realms.
Forgot to say, I wish it were real but it probably isn't and I have no reason to believe otherwise.
No matter how hard you try procedural generation will always make everything feel the same. Or at least it always has up to now.
nah, i've ran into some pretty neat things in daggerfall, and that is the equivalent of today's single dev indie game
with today's resources, a procedurally generated daggerfall city would make skyrim's cities look pathetic in comparison
Maybe we could have something cool soon with the new AI stuff, like using it to generate dialog for NPCs.
>It's just le fad
Yeah, artificial intelligence who gets better everyday is totally comparable to an overpriced thing that only has 1 gimmick
>artificial intelligence who gets better everyday
I get it, reddit likes AI therefore AI bad unless it's stealing some shitty artists job then it's le based
What does VR have to do with Ai? VR is a consumer product, it doesn't improve/speed up game development in any way (apart from some very niche applications). Ai, on the other hand, is a tool that helps game development,
>mfw anyone says troonywind
Game is literally unplayable without mods, foh
I've never modded morrowind beyond like openmw. But it's still more playable than oblivion or skyirm even without it.
Oblivion literally has the same leveling system except worse level scaling
>Oblivion literally requires the exact same thing except much worse because the mana values are fricked since it regenerates naturally
You didn't play Morrowind, it's painfully obvious. Why lie like this?
You can start the game as a pure mage in oblivion and shit on everything out the gate
you literally cannot kill a mudcrab out of the gate with magic before needing to rest, let alone anything you'd actually need to fight
They're doing all of the innane min-max bullshit to maximize stats where
It's not actually practical to use, jumping is the superior transportation method.
re-read my post
>literally unplayable
Just did a vanilla run a few months ago unmodded. No mods are necessary at all, the systems work perfectly in the mechanics the game set for itself. I cannot imagine how fricking moronic a person has to be to get filtered by Morrowind.
>copy n pasted content bad when Skyrim does it
>Copy n pasted content good when other game does it
But then you get the cope saying this copy n pasted content is somehow better.
Dungeons are shit in Oblivion too, don't get your panties in a twist.
Say Morrowind too just to be safe
Without mods?
They're all shit without mods.
TES6 will be a shitshow because it'll be official paid CC mods only.
Theoretically though if Bethesda commissioned SureAI to do a successor to Enderal, would you pay for it if it meant they got paid for it?
probably not, but i also dont care about those games.
Yes. Enderal was better than Skyrim itself so I'd gladly buy it as an expansion DLC or buy it standalone.
SureAI no longer has the rights to Enderal apparently, it's why there are no plans to nake a third entry and why the lead writer had to rewrite his spinoff book into removing all references to the Vyn setting.
I heard the thing trainwiz made was good.
It was. No one really talks about it which is a shame because it's the one exceptional CC
i didnt even know he made one. is it the giant dwemer ruin? seems like something hed make.
https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Forgotten_Seasons
i only played skyrim so thats the best for me however i want to play oblivion coz of the shitty npcs
Only played Oblivion (and a little bit of Daggerfall, but was too retarted to get far enough)
For me, there are non
I like all Elder Scrolls games 🙂
I removed and blocked someone on steam because all they played was elder scrolls.
It was just trying to be a cool fantasy world full of adventure and fun which is what games are all about
Nothing says adventure like leveled scaled loot and enemies.
morrowind obviously, but oblivion is the most kino
cyberpunk 2077
Oblivion quests are the most overrated shit ever put into a videogame. Fallout 3 has better quests.
Is this bait? In any case, take the (You) and get the frick out of here.
Extended UI has a fantastic favorites menu for spells, just press a button and scroll to select
Oblivion ruined vidya. Add a compass and quest markers, suddenly immersion is removed from games forever. Open-world were useless from that point on, just a gimmick.
When you have people jerking off garbage like Oblivion it might be time to recognize that elder scrolls threads are bad.
Either that or all the memes are 100% real and zoomers are precisely as fricking moronic as we all suspected and shit on Morrowind because it utterly defeated them.
morrowind and oblivion are both good
>When you have people jerking off garbage like Oblivion it might be time to recognize that elder scrolls threads are bad.
Once you realize that the majority of modern RPG players like to play their games like a robot it makes a lot more sense, just picture the guy who plays a MP FPS by aimlessly running around the map looking for people to shoot until the match ends.
None of them.
>Morrowind- best setting and lore
>Oblivion- best quests
>Skyrim- best mods
>Skyrim- best mods
the absolute state of modding in 2023
>That UI
I'm gonna fricking throw up
I hate skyrimtards so much
I know that no one worthwhile is being distracted by Skyrim modding anymore these days but jesus christ this is the best they can do?
I just don't get it. When I play Bethesda games I just use basic mods that tweak gameplay and fix things and maybe some visual improvements. Why not just play a better game if you're gonna try to turn it into a different experience that looks like a total clusterfrick of clashing features and visuals?
>that UI mod
god it looks even worse than vanilla
im amazed nobody has made a UI better than skyui, because that one also isnt very good
Was getting sick of Skyui so I turned it off, but I couldn't even play the game because of how bad vanilla's ui is
Even TESO has a better UI than Skyrim at this point.
true, but only on KB+M, the controller ui is somehow far worse than skyrim's despite trying to be a direct copy
oh idk haven't played on controller should give it a shot
>MMO
>Controller
How is that even legal?
eso works fine on controller, especially with oakensoul so you don't have to bar swap (you only get 5 abilities on one bar and have to switch between two weapons to access another 5), im assuming eso was actually made with a console port in mind, as i said the UI is dogshit on it though, not sure why they dont let you use the KB+M one with some changes
XIV figured out hotbar combat on a controller. Even WoW is getting a console port one of these days.
that's not a good thing
shows how braindead XIVs gameplay is
we all knew WoW was braindead already
lol
lmao even
Just saying there's no reason to not put MMORPGs on consoles anymore if input isn't a limiting factor. Consoles are more powerful than 99% of MMO players PCs.
>TESO's combat is pretty garbage dude
So is skyrim's but at least you have abilities and dodge in TESO
problem with eso is the abilities are mostly unsatisfying
i got the game a few months ago and picked necromancer without looking anything up, i assumed it would be about summoning the dead, instead it's mostly just stupid halloween visuals magic shit.
wouldn't be so bad if they let you change class, but the devs are so greedy they dont let you so that you might buy some of the crown store boost shit
Skyrim. Contrarianism is no substitute for reality.
>no spears
>no levitation
filthy Casual
Even if you genuinely believed that, why wouldn't you go for TESO with 100x the content and better combat? I assume we're judging unmodded. TESO is just Skyrim with multiplayer, more content and better lore.
TESO's combat is pretty garbage dude
but running around and exploring and doing whatever makes up for it
>Daggerfall isn't on the iliac bay anymore
Why?
Skyrim
the perfect game would be something between daggerfall and morrowind. daggerfall is too procedural and bloated, but morrowind is a little too scaled down and simplified. sadly they never hit that sweet spot. i like both though
That was the plan for Morrowind in 1997
800sqkm vs 50,000sqkm
more handcrafted tiles/content less bloat
see
Morrowind=Skyrim>Daggerfall>Oblivion
Haven't played Arena
Thoughts on Ardenfell?
>Ardenfell
I've never heard of this but it looks fricking cool
Surprised Bethesda isn't throwing a legal fit
Zenimax was dissolved and absorbed by Microsoft, who aren't as trigger happy on copyright
Oh yeah, somehow forgot about that, makes sense.
looks interesting, not a fan of the visuals but if the gameplay is good...
Check out https://store.steampowered.com/app/1574240/Dread_Delusion/
ok now this looks really good, does it have a lot of content?
just noticed that it's early access, but seems close to release, ill wait until it's out
actually looks really good
I love the look of dread delusion but I don't really like the gameplay that much, especially with shit like floating coins and whatnot which just remind me of old shovelware games.
End of Dyeus is the true indie Elder Scrolls knock off.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1304400/The_End_of_Dyeus/
Looks like ass and often has the unity jank feel, but it's still one of the more interesting rpg projects to keep an eye on.
looking at this and I all I can see is MORROWIND BUT JAPAN
>looking at this and I all I can see is MORROWIND BUT JAPAN
Is that supposed to be a bad thing? Morrowind was just india with mushrooms.
>Is that supposed to be a bad thing?
I guess not if they can pull it off but I get the feeling its going to be very uninspired
>Morrowind was just india with mushrooms.
lol
theres something about skyrim thats just so fricking boring.
It's a feature that draws from Todd Howard's personal experience
becoming a guildmaster has always felt gimmicky to me. theres just no way an adventurer could convincingly lead a guild. to lead a guild you have to be there all the time. i dont know why everyone feels like you always have to lead it eventually. cant you just be a part of a faction?
I don't recall Oblivion having full fast travel, instead you had to rely on the oblivion gates to zip around the world.
wat
that wouldve been a cool idea though, destroying a oblivion gate lets you use it to travel or something
What fricking version of oblivion were you playing?
Wtf happened?
https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46131
>https://www.nexusmods.com/oblivion/mods/46131
yes this is the one. Thank you anon. It always reminds me of Narnia with the Lamp post in the snow at the start of the Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.
Just from watching other people play them I'd say Oblivion
>Just from watching other people play them
fr fr?
on god
Oblivion fans are completely delusional. Oblivion was probably their first RPG they played on Xbox when they were kids so they have intense nostalgia for it.
>muh charm
>muh questing
>muh comfy
Honestly it's embarrassing reading the copium.
Oblivion is legitimately charming.
t. didn't play oblivion as a kid
Daggerfall >>>>> oblivion > morrowind > skyrim > arena > the aborted children > Redguard = battlespire
Wayward Realms can't come quick enough
You have to be just guessing, I refuse to believe you actually played any of these games
Skyrim=daggerfall>morrowind>oblivion>>>
>directional attacks in daggerfall
>each direction has a hit rate and damage modifier with overhead attacks doing more damage but thrusts being more accurate
>morrowind completely guts this and just assigns damage numbers randomly to directional attacks
Skyrim. Morrowind is a close second of course, but it's engine limitations bring it down.
For pure rpg autism? Morrowind. For atmosphere and action? Skyrim. For a mix of the 2? Oblivion.
They're all worth playing anyway
>For pure rpg autism? Morrowind
why would you waste your time with toddslop if you want to play an RPG?
mongowind doesn't even have party members or proper classes
>mongowind doesn't even have party members or proper classes
Good
Daggerfall Unity > Morrowind > Oblivion > Skyrim > Daggerfall original > Arena
>there are people that geniuenly finished all
i couldnt even force myself to finish skyrim
i acquired almost the best gear possible within like 30 hours and i finished only like 20-30% of the game
monsters scaled, i didnt, everyone become super tanky bullet sponge and game became boring af, couldnt force myself to finish even tho im super patient
>monsters scaled, i didnt, everyone become super tanky bullet sponge
imagine being too moronic for skyrim and bragging about it online
you are brainrotten
there is literally no way to scale after a certain point in skyrim, you only can get hp/mana/stamina and no perks after you maxed out things you use
but monsters keep getting stronger as you level
skyrim is piss easy and id finish it if i wanted to (i wont)
>there is literally no way to scale after a certain point in skyrim
the game where you can make bows which do 1000+ damage is the one where the player will get outscaled
you're literally too moronic for skyrim lmao
i was playing melee and mage, dropped both times
i bet there are builds/ways to do more damage you absolute moronic nerd, wasnt the case for me
maybe you shouldn't have dropped your brain morono
>wasnt the case for me
because you're too mentally deficient for fricking skyrim
im probably more intelligent than your entire family combined and i did shit damage with my mage, its not my issue, its game issue
Fallout is better than all of them
Oblivion > Morrowind > Daggerfall > Skyrim > Arena
Simple as.
