Zakharov is the worst faction to live in. They have the most drones of any faction. The majority of their citizens a4e basically uneducated slaves or test subjects with no political power who live by the whims of an elite 0.001% of snooty aspergers university professors who never leave their labs to see what a shithole their society is.

Lal is also dogshit because he is trying to turn back the clock and remake Earth as it was just before society collapsed. It is a recurring theme for Lal that he is unable to let go of the past or correct past mistakes. (EG. Cloning his dead wife to groom the clone to be her replacement, trying to recreate the UN, etc.)

Pravin and Miriam are the only leaders that aren't evil so I'll go with Pravin because Miriam, while a good leader, is too religious for my liking. Ideally they would share planet with each other so the religious may live in Miriams realm while the irreligious can live in Pravins.

Lal would be my first choice, since I love bureaucracy. Deirdre would be the second best choice, since I am sure I would eventually get used to life in the commune. After that the choices get hard. Zakharov has university politics, which might well drive me to suicide. Morgan would turn me into a commodity. Santiago has too tight discipline for me to thrive under her. Miriam would be my last hope to save me from the Hive, although I don't think I could pretend to believe in her stupid shit indefinitely. Yang would really force me to consider if life in the Hive really is preferable to swift death.

Also, he's not the expedition leader, his rank is the chief of security. Lal's office of UN Commissioner actually puts him as the next person in chain of authority after Garland's murder demise. Hence the double votes his faction gets since other leaders nominally acknowledge the UN authority and act in its framework (at least in regards to atrocities).

Yang is the XO on the ship. Lal is just the ships surgeon.

The killer was either someone influenced by the stepdaughters or Santiago seeing her time to strike.

          Anonymous

          >Lal is just the ships surgeon.
Lal also holds a functional rank with the UN Space Authority, otherwise he'd be referred to just as "doctor".
          >Yang is the XO on the ship.
Incorrect. When 'Unity' activates emergency awakening of the hibernating "core" personnel due to an incident, it's Garland, Lal, Deirdre and Zakharov who are woke up. They have discretion to select the course of action in force-majeure, and order the awakening of additional personnel. They are also referred to as "commanders".

Yang wasn't awakened until after Santiago has revealed themselves, and Garland ordered to bring him up to assess the security risks and authorize the use of weapons to deal with the situation.

By definition Yang can't be a XO if he isn't in the loop of the first-response core personnel of the captain and commanders.
