Parallax is heavily driven by texture resolution, since it uses a height map. So part of it will depend on the quality of the parallax system in place, the other part depends on the texture map used, and it's still all old there.

Like they're great in HW, SB & ShB but utter shit in Endwalker and only useful for EXP if you're desperate to fill the void in DPS queues and have done your daily hunts.
I'm slowly doing them on alt jobs but the exp and gil are so tiny that a FATE often gives you the same or more for less effort. The ones that give free HQ equipment are nice but few in number.

They overestimated the recommended specs, otherwise all good.
Some races are benefiting from it and degenerate filthy modbeasts will do as they always did.

Overall pretty good though. I like. It's more positive than it is negative (which is a few small niggles in the grand scheme of things)

How much worse is it than live? 'cause seams were pretty noticeable in live already.
I mean the disconnect between the neck and head. When they're standing there, it's unnoticeable, but when the head/neck moves, it causes a gap.
That looks to be a rigging problem, which they should be easily able to fix. I think the weights where the neck and head join are inconsistent, so they don't move along properly.
Overall good, more than expected especially when it comes to AA, environment animations and supersampling. With the green filter being finally gone after all these years, I don't think I'll even need Reshade anymore.
Concerning characters, of the stuff of existing races will no doubt be fixed like the Male Viera slouch was (mooncat fangs, lalafell teeth etc), but FemHroths are so low effort and will likely remain broken for years just like the males.
It's good. The lightning changes can completely change the feel of a character's face, even if you don't change anything from that face.

Most of the scions just straight up weren't people in ARR. It was weird.
The lighting and texture upgrades, particularly on gear and the environment are all pretty great. It's night and day when you select an updated set vs an non-updated set in the benchmark. My character also turned out good so all in all I'm excited for it. Hard to log back in to the live game after seeing it, honestly.
I hate the fact that I have to change to catgirl just to have a decent looking character. I haven't fantasia since HW for fricks sake. He Knew this was going to happen but did it anyway the butthole

This only worked when DC travel first started.
Right now it's more compromised as you can see from the congestion list. Players are now rolling on it by default whenever they can.
This doesn't work for ulti pf because on average the biggest terrorists are Aether players. However, the most terminally ill parsebrained players are all from Primal.

I play on Spriggan/ Chaos on EU and my brother plays on Alpha on Light, I've been enjoying playing with him but I really didn't want to pay the DC transfer but having to DC travel and miss our on FC buffs, access to my retainers and getting the cackpot results from the Golden Saucer is really starting to grate.
Yup, this is why people transfer to Aether on NA or roll a character there. DC travel is good for one off ventures or a night of PFing but shit in the longterm.

For the first half of the expansion it'll be like that, for the latter half it'll be Kill a God. I'm under no illusion but I will enjoy my time as an adventurer, do side quests, go on simple questing, explore the world, take time to read the lore. I'm in absolutely no hurry to blast through the expansion, I'm going to take my sweet time with it.
People from a rejoined shard digitized themselves and sent a giant computer to Texas in order to survive. Scions were hired as mercenaries to assist in a local power struggle.
Ye olde political conflict (in this case a succession contest) into hidden manipulator (my bet is the girl on top of the key art) into ancient civ from another shard trying to piggyback onto the Source's Lifestream to fuel their immortality (your guess is as good as mine but it'll have massively escalated stakes from the "beach episode" people thought it would be).
Girl at the top is probably oracle of lightning from the 9th shard who, during their calamity of lightning, managers to merge a part of their world and civilation (solution 9) into the source as they all went into soul-storage stasis to outlast the calamity which will be the main story twist instead of throne succession gimmicks

God it's INSANE how shit the CC lighting is. The only one mildly usable is the Aetherial Sea background. I acknowledge that the lighting is shit and weirdly yellow. But at the same time, some people seem to be DELIBERATELY making things even worse by having their character facing away from a lightsource to show "how much more flat and lifeless" the new versions look.
Just show and point out the problems outright, don't hide it behind deliberately taken shittier shots.
It's actually really cool to see how much more reactive the skin, eyes, hair, etc. are to light compared to the flat paper shit on live. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a big change for XIV specifically. The old materials were... a problem.

It really is fricking confusing. But I'm gonna assume it's because they want to have as little extraneous data and ballast in the benchmark as possible, so they use the old zones?
That might also account for stuff like missing meshes. If they compiled things in a sloppy way for this benchmark build. Not saying that's the explanation for some of the actual technical frickery, but it might be a reason.
Still, good to point out the problems that are there. Problems beyond "my character no longer being a paper mache doll that doesn't react to lighting scares me :((" or "my character's chin was 3 tris and now it's 6 IT'S NO LONGER MY CHARACTER RUINED!!!".
Honestly I'd imagine that they're busy as hell trying to get DT finished in time to avoid a delay, so I understand that the benchmark is a bit sloppy put together and cuts corners while also trying to avoid spoilers from dataminers.
But yeah, a lot of ffxiv players are so attached to their character that any change scares them and they can't think that this is not the final product despite SE making it pretty damn clear

It's probably partially because there's no direct line of communication, and a lot of the updated stuff was shown piecemeal.
I do think there are definitely technical errors to look into (and thankfully JP forums are on that case), but overall, there's a lot of whining about actual improvements and inevitable changes from going from a system where your character is cardboard and hardly interacts with lighting, to actually having something approximating a skin shader.

GOOD! I'm sick of this game being focused on two races, Miqote and Lalafell. I fricking hate both of those races specifically because of the player base. Every Roe I've met has been a fun and decent player, every Elezen I've met had their own personality and were interesting, every Highlander I met were humble but helpful.

Turn it off, FSR beats the current DLSS 1.0 for the benchmark. I had the exact same pixel like screen changed it to FSR, turned on anti-aliasing lost about 2 frames but the picture quality is infinitely better.

You don't want to be using DLSS 1.0 they're using for this.
1080p is fine, I'll by playing in 2k though. FSR gives you the option to turn off upscaling if you set the greyed out option to 100 it will run at your native resolution.
They're not using DLSS 1.0 though.
It's using the 2.x algo with the 3.x DLL's. The 1.0 DLSS algorithm has more artifacting, boot up MHW or FFXV and turn it on and compare. Hell just look at water or foliage and you'll see the difference compared to DLSS1.0
I keep forgetting you can force DLAA. Man if only they had this shit last expansion when I still used my 1440p monitor.

Does anyone know which setting or setting combos primarily effect shadow jitter? A very obvious example (if others are seeing it) is a plant leaf near the center of the screen in the second benchmark scene where the WoL is coming into frame on her chocobo and about to sippy on water.
Run it through the benchmark, only the character model is using the updated 7.0 assets, everything else including the lighting in the character creator is still using the pre-dawntrail engine. You need to put the character through the benchmark to get a more accurate idea of what the character will look like in the new lighting.
It's probably some sort of optical illusion thing, but the new one make the Viera's face look taller? Maybe cause the shadows are less defined? I dunno. There's something about it that makes the face look higher up, even though I can tell they're at the same height.
Male Elezen players have always been gigachads, I really hope the quality of our players doesn't plummet now that all the normies jump ship in Dawntrail since we're mogging every other male even more explicitly.

yeah, if you've been looking at flat matte paper skins for 10 years, any sort of change that makes it look more like actual skin and react to light is going to seem "too waxy".
Even the character creator version generally looks better if you adjust the lighting to not have the LEAST light possible.
The materials react much more to light than they did before, which means that not having any light on them will create a far greater difference than on live, where the eyes and skin barely react to light at all, and it's more of a "it looks the same when not exposed to light but a few tones darker" kind of thing.

As someone who has every set of augmented law's order in the game, objectively some of the best players are dwarves. At least half the people who ran off to do the solo duel were dwarves and nearly all of them killed it and came back with their carry tier buffed DPS.
Since DRS is the best savage in the game, I feel like this is a good indicator.

The environment hasn't actually been updated in the CC. Just look at the foliage, the buildings, the ground textures for the other options.
Parallax is heavily driven by texture resolution, since it uses a height map. So part of it will depend on the quality of the parallax system in place, the other part depends on the texture map used, and it's still all old there.

I'm slowly doing them on alt jobs but the exp and gil are so tiny that a FATE often gives you the same or more for less effort. The ones that give free HQ equipment are nice but few in number.

They overestimated the recommended specs, otherwise all good.
Some races are benefiting from it and degenerate filthy modbeasts will do as they always did.
It’s an obvious upgrade but at the same time it feels so minuscule that I don’t really care.
Some real issues like that seam when Au Ra move that got pointed out, some missing meshes for hair (or just the maps are fricked up and not rendering), or moonie teeth being ground down.
Overall pretty good though. I like. It's more positive than it is negative (which is a few small niggles in the grand scheme of things)

How much worse is it than live? 'cause seams were pretty noticeable in live already.
I mean the disconnect between the neck and head. When they're standing there, it's unnoticeable, but when the head/neck moves, it causes a gap.
That looks to be a rigging problem, which they should be easily able to fix. I think the weights where the neck and head join are inconsistent, so they don't move along properly.

Overall good, more than expected especially when it comes to AA, environment animations and supersampling. With the green filter being finally gone after all these years, I don't think I'll even need Reshade anymore.
Concerning characters, of the stuff of existing races will no doubt be fixed like the Male Viera slouch was (mooncat fangs, lalafell teeth etc), but FemHroths are so low effort and will likely remain broken for years just like the males.

The lighting and texture upgrades, particularly on gear and the environment are all pretty great. It's night and day when you select an updated set vs an non-updated set in the benchmark. My character also turned out good so all in all I'm excited for it. Hard to log back in to the live game after seeing it, honestly.

If you can be on aether you can do retainers, golden saucer, gathering etc natively along with having access to FC & FC buffs.

This doesn't work for ulti pf because on average the biggest terrorists are Aether players. However, the most terminally ill parsebrained players are all from Primal.

I play on Spriggan/ Chaos on EU and my brother plays on Alpha on Light, I've been enjoying playing with him but I really didn't want to pay the DC transfer but having to DC travel and miss our on FC buffs, access to my retainers and getting the cackpot results from the Golden Saucer is really starting to grate.
Yup, this is why people transfer to Aether on NA or roll a character there. DC travel is good for one off ventures or a night of PFing but shit in the longterm.

God it's INSANE how shit the CC lighting is. The only one mildly usable is the Aetherial Sea background. I acknowledge that the lighting is shit and weirdly yellow. But at the same time, some people seem to be DELIBERATELY making things even worse by having their character facing away from a lightsource to show "how much more flat and lifeless" the new versions look.
Just show and point out the problems outright, don't hide it behind deliberately taken shittier shots.
The shadow changes for faces are the biggest one for me.
Spinning in the character creator shows just how stark the difference is to live.
It's actually really cool to see how much more reactive the skin, eyes, hair, etc. are to light compared to the flat paper shit on live. It's not groundbreaking, but it's a big change for XIV specifically. The old materials were... a problem.

Still, good to point out the problems that are there. Problems beyond "my character no longer being a paper mache doll that doesn't react to lighting scares me :((" or "my character's chin was 3 tris and now it's 6 IT'S NO LONGER MY CHARACTER RUINED!!!".
Honestly I'd imagine that they're busy as hell trying to get DT finished in time to avoid a delay, so I understand that the benchmark is a bit sloppy put together and cuts corners while also trying to avoid spoilers from dataminers.
But yeah, a lot of ffxiv players are so attached to their character that any change scares them and they can't think that this is not the final product despite SE making it pretty damn clear
It's probably partially because there's no direct line of communication, and a lot of the updated stuff was shown piecemeal.
I do think there are definitely technical errors to look into (and thankfully JP forums are on that case), but overall, there's a lot of whining about actual improvements and inevitable changes from going from a system where your character is cardboard and hardly interacts with lighting, to actually having something approximating a skin shader.

I didn't but I did see AO shifting for one or two frames before going back with DLSS enabled.
Turn it off, FSR beats the current DLSS 1.0 for the benchmark. I had the exact same pixel like screen changed it to FSR, turned on anti-aliasing lost about 2 frames but the picture quality is infinitely better.

You don't want to be using DLSS 1.0 they're using for this.
1080p is fine, I'll by playing in 2k though. FSR gives you the option to turn off upscaling if you set the greyed out option to 100 it will run at your native resolution.
They're not using DLSS 1.0 though.
It's using the 2.x algo with the 3.x DLL's. The 1.0 DLSS algorithm has more artifacting, boot up MHW or FFXV and turn it on and compare. Hell just look at water or foliage and you'll see the difference compared to DLSS1.0

Run it through the benchmark, only the character model is using the updated 7.0 assets, everything else including the lighting in the character creator is still using the pre-dawntrail engine. You need to put the character through the benchmark to get a more accurate idea of what the character will look like in the new lighting.
It's probably some sort of optical illusion thing, but the new one make the Viera's face look taller? Maybe cause the shadows are less defined? I dunno. There's something about it that makes the face look higher up, even though I can tell they're at the same height.

Even the character creator version generally looks better if you adjust the lighting to not have the LEAST light possible.
The materials react much more to light than they did before, which means that not having any light on them will create a far greater difference than on live, where the eyes and skin barely react to light at all, and it's more of a "it looks the same when not exposed to light but a few tones darker" kind of thing.
I like how she is pretty without looking like a painted prostitute buckling under the weight of a thousand accessories. Very natural.

As someone who has every set of augmented law's order in the game, objectively some of the best players are dwarves. At least half the people who ran off to do the solo duel were dwarves and nearly all of them killed it and came back with their carry tier buffed DPS.
Since DRS is the best savage in the game, I feel like this is a good indicator.

Is voice 5 the iconic WAH for femlala? If it is, I play it and it's not too grating in play. They have great sound effects overall across emotes. Only had 1 person comment on the battle sounds and it was a hroth trying to seduce me in keeper of the lake.

The /laugh, /chuckle /no etc are really annoying on 5. Voice 2 has some sound effects that are a touch too low, though.
