Iron Maiden uses a lot of keyboards and string instruments, though I just realized a lot of metal purists (gays) hate all their new music despite its only real issue being Bruce's cancer.
I still enjoyed Senjutsu, even though it is noticeable that they are becoming very old, and are almost unable to pull the songs from that album off live.

Theur conposition is still great but they're starting to flag hard in their ability to actually perform.
I’m sorry but Gloryhammer sucks. They’re supposed to be a parody of bands like rhapsody of fire and hammerfall but aside from a few songs on the first album they barely sound like rhapsody or metal in general so what’s even the point? And the fans don’t even know what it’s supposed to be parodying they think it’s a warhammer thing. Not to mention the constant behind the scenes drama which is something a parody band shouldn’t have.
Sabaton is absolutely not power metal moron
It's arena metal
This has been confirmed by the power metal gods >power metal is the entry level genre
every genre has entry level bands, yes even black metal despite every band trying to seem "inaccessible"
>alestorm and gloryhammer
LMAO no. These are parody bands of a genre which is already ironic and humorous in and of itself. It's like trying to parody South Park. I saw Gloryhammer live, it was boring and very embarrassing. Exacerbated by the fact that they had Brothers of Metal opening for them who were a thousand times better and genuinely funny.
>Is power metal supposed to be the new cool thing to hate or something?
That would be djent right now. Everyone buying an eight string to be the new Periphery has ruined the metal community.
yeah i saw them on that tour and have the poster on my wall right now hahah
Jeff Loomis, The Safety Fire (underrated lads, broken up now, two kewl albums), periphery and Today I caught the Plague (pretty good band, now called Kindred)
I believe so. I don't think PTH hated Periphery or anything like that. They were just picking on Periphery's album naming scheme. I think Spencer (Periphery vocalist) sang on stage with Rody when they performed Clarity
djent has always been a thing though. periphery is my favorite band but there are still plenty of djent bands before periphery that are great, although i agree modern djent bands are a travesty
Because if you don't listen to the hardest metal you are not into metal.
Also the first three Metallica albums are pure mainstream shit.
Now I need to listen to The Ruins of Beverast again while I'm playing FFXIV Shadowbringers. Too intellectual for you.
Metalturds take the genre way too seriously (these are the same people that say metal lyrics are "deep and poetic" when people criticize it as just screaming) power metal is what happens when you lean into the goofiness and just have fun with it.
>dude don't take the music seriously (emotionally or otherwise) just treat something you like as a joke bro
You can enjoy things and not be super defensive about it being goofy or weird outside of its context.
Fast loud Melodic metal where you can sometimes understand what the singer is saying as opposed to fsat loud nonsense noise with screaming/grunting
I'll never understand the appeal of black metal or death metal.
It's like regular metal but has coherent musical composition
Its metal but the band isn't afraid of unironically liking things and telling stories
it's like metal but with lyrics that aren't about raping corpses

Black/Death metal can be good in my opinion, but it REALLY depends on the singer of the band. Screamo needs to be done correctly and most singers actually suck at it and just sing in a garbled tone while 'fans' follow trends on how they think screamo is done, or singers get carried by the rest of their instrument players because they play 500 times better than how the singer singslooking at you Lorna Shore.
>duuuuuuuuuude screamooooooo!
You're probably confusing metalcore with actual metal (or you just can't stand normal black metal vocals)
Here's a metalcore band covering a melodic death metal song in what I would (back in the day) probably call "screamo"
here's the original (their most "normally sung" song)
And here's a normal song from the band.
The execution and mixing might matter a lot, but I think people are just bad at finding styles of the vocals that they like.
Honestly, yeah. To me that singing by Black Tears is done really well. But maybe I'm using the wrong terminology and completely out of the loop on how to describe the singing of death metal. Cannibal Corpse is good, and I've been liking Frozen Soul. But their are other bands that I don't get the vocals at all. Could be my ears are tuned for different singers.
>went to see gojira and mastodon >lorna shore was opening >took some mushrooms on the drive over >ended up being late >chilling in crowd >gojira comes on stage >completely missed Lorna
and nothing of value was lost
>screamo
I still am convinced that emo was some sort of elaborated prank that went out of control.
All cool kids pretended (and failed) to be goths all of a sudden and it only stuck for like 2 years before they "grew out of the phase" and became very ashamed of it.
I like Melodic Death Metal. There is this obscure literal whi band called Parasite Inc. whose early albums I really liked. Function or Perish is one of my favorites, even though the lyrics are pretentious "look mama I'm a rebel" hogwash.
>Dude without balls sings about heroes slaying dragons + extreme guitar wankery + pop tier refrains you will sing along instantly + heavy use of keyboards + often some classical or folk elements
Not real trve metal
That shits kinda fun though. Idk, it feels like protagonist music. These guys clearly write this stuff with a story in mind. I can’t help but enjoy it, a guilty pleasure I guess
Its extremely cheesy but in a good way. Its very funny how power metal bands always larp as the shiny heroes saving everything from the evil lords while all other metal tries to larp as the dark evil edgy side. Power Metal = Paladins of Metal.
I recommend Gloryhammer. all their albums have an actual storyline about stopping the evil wizard Zargothrax, it's great. their first album for some reason they put a heavy emphasis on engrish so some of the lyrics sound like they were put through a translator
>for some reason they put a heavy emphasis on engrish so some of the lyrics sound like they were put through a translator
Gloryhammer is a parody band. The engrish and elaborate EPIC story is clearly a Rhapsody influence.
Metal that is "brighter" than standard stuff like Maiden or Priest >Higher pitched >cheesy lyrics >wacky stuff like the occasional slide whistle
people not taking themselves seriously and just having fun shredding
watching the metal community cannibalize itself over having mildly right wing views has proven that its better to be goofy and aware of it than some homosexual liberal who listens to music about buttfricking corpses but cant handle a guy who says "Trump wasnt so bad"
Man I miss classic Edguy. Tinnitus Sanctus was their last album I enjoyed and I think after The Scarecrow, Avantasia became pretty unmemorable as well. Not sure why, I guess it feels like it's banking on having recognizeable names and Sammett trying to be taken "seriously" with more esoteric subject matter. Idk thanks for reading my blog.
Dragonforce qualifies. I don't know what you've heard of, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Powerwolf, Sabaton?
Also this sparks some debate, but you could argue that Dio was proto-power metal.
Sabaton’s Night Witches and Metal Crüe are by far some of my favorite songs of all time.
Saw them on Wacken
They fricking sucked.
Booked two stages to do absolutely nothing with them, except for the singer to run from one end to the other once, lmao.
Imagine metal but very, very homosexual, so homosexual that if the videoclips of power metal had a rainbow flag in them it would be the least gay thing you'd see in them.
you say this but black and death circles are so afraid of being considered nazis that they run cancel brigades against their favorite bands morning noon and night to the point of cancelling entire festivals because the drummer of some no name band thats at the bottom of the docket called a guy a gay back in 1999.
It's a genre of metal that's in the "melodic" and "hype" segment of the metal compass. So there's a clear composition and flow to the song and the lyrics can be discerned by human ears, and they're usually pretty positive or exciting and not about how you're going to be skullfricked by Satan's barbed devildick. It's also probably about an elf or a dragon and the band's mother language probably has an ö in its lexicon.
That's all to say it is the objectively best genre of music.
Post that Power Metal song that you would introduce to your girlfriend's parents as a first impression.
?si=8sOVLKCukvFPIg8E
I think this one has the best odds of making any boomer crack a smile, honestly. Especially with the fricking goofy ass music video.

their song from sacred was my gateway to metal
Blind Guardian was my first and is still my favorite power metal band.
I had some shitty music radio app on my Xbox 360 and Turn the Page came on and I was instantly a fan forever
Metal that branched off into stronger rhythms and melodies while still keeping a semblance of rhythm, structure and composition, instead of haphazardly throwing notes out without any real plan because higher BPM
=better, and without making the singer scream like a moron like he was making an impression of a troony marge simpson dilating for the first time
>2 competitive genres where you can blame your shit performance on your teammates >vs the one where you have no one to blame for your loss but yourself
Yeah seems like you got filtered, young Sheldon.
>Proper ARPG/action games like DMC, Nioh, Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden on one head >Proper dungeon crawler RPGs like Ultima, M/M, EO on one yead >Pants on head half and half moronic Soulslike on the third moron head.
Okay it's not perfect but frick off it's close enough.
a lot of boomer metal bands are way passed their expiration date and their later stuff should be skipped with some exceptions like Luca Turilli who’s just an endless kino machine, rather kill myself than listen to another boomer metal album about how they’ve still got it and their dicks definitely still work
Based. Keepers 1 and 2 and The Dark Ride are my favorite albums from them. I remember listening to their 2021 album and thinking it was just ok though.
>No longer exists
that or they only put out one album every 10 years >spellcaster >savage circus >ghost ship octavius
it's like my taste is tailor made by God to be as painful for me as possible
>hated music as a child because I only heard what garbage was on the radio >hear Sea of Lies on a shitty newgrounds flash animation >what is this song >find Symphony X >Not only do I find music I enjoy, but it opens up several genres of music I like, including classical, through adjacent bands.
Last album was almost ten years ago...
Iconoclast grew on me, but Underworld was awful. I really hope that if they come back, they make an album like Divine Wings or The New Mythology Suite. However my favorite album is easily Twilight in Olympus. Through the Looking Glass is peak SX.
their last couple albums sucked anyways, they were out of gas. hell of a run though
>hated music as a child because I only heard what garbage was on the radio >hear Sea of Lies on a shitty newgrounds flash animation >what is this song >find Symphony X >Not only do I find music I enjoy, but it opens up several genres of music I like, including classical, through adjacent bands.

based symphony chads
paradise lost was based, iconoclast i havent listened to in years but i remember not digging it much and i dont see myself liking underworld ever...
For me it's The Odyssey
The Odyssey is also great. Iconoclast might be worth a listen, there are some decent songs but also some stinkers. Underworld was just shit, I don't know what they were doing.
Dragonforce is probably the most well known power metal band, especially among non-metal listeners. The song Emerald Sword by Rhapsody is another example that's also fairly prolific.
Dragonforce qualifies. I don't know what you've heard of, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Powerwolf, Sabaton?
Also this sparks some debate, but you could argue that Dio was proto-power metal.
Yeah I confused hammerfal for haggard and I thought I knew stratovarius but I can't find any song in my folders, I probably heard one song and decided I didn't like it.
I always thought Glam Metal led to Power Metal. Iron Maiden seems pretty power metal to me, but the band is classified as Glam.
Dio and Iron Maiden are both inarguably proto-power metal. They put a lot of emphasis on the elements that ended up defining power metal. They weren't really power metal themselves, but they paved the way for the first power metal bands with the focus on melody, symphonic elements, anthemic lyrics, and singing about 500 year-old wizards.
If these two songs were released this year they'd be called power metal.
Stargazer is such a good song. It's a classic, every time I listen to it I only love it more. >HIGH NOOON OH I'D SELL MY SOUL FOR WAAAATER >NINE YEARS WORTH OF BREAKING MY BACK
Yeah, everything about it kicks ass. It's hard to describe, but it's really good at capturing this feeling that I think is core to power metal where it's trying to evoke the feeling and energy of a fantastical or mystical place with the lyrics working with the melody. And the lyrics in the genre tend to be so good at getting stuck in your head that it really gets you yearning for that imagery.
This is another example I love and I think it might be the best Blind Guardian song for it
?si=L3g0Zci9w8QL6jzR >I know where the stars glow >And sky's unclouded >Sweet the water runs my friend
their song from sacred was my gateway to metal
I'm embarrassed to admit for me that it was Battlefield being used in Robot Unicorn Attack - Metal Edition.
>death/black metal used to be the laughingstock of metal subgenres >try to put down a more well-liked subgenre in an attempt to gain legitimacy
Are death/black metal fans the Dark Souls 2 fans of metal?
No, that's heavy metal. It could be argued that painkiller laid the foundations for early power metal, but painkiller itself is still well and truly classic heavy metal.
Maiden is power metal among heavy metal and others and people need to realize theres a lot of overlap. Its a far more 3 dimensional spectrum than morons like to admit.
Glam metal is its own thing, and is still to this day very poorly defined. Some people think W.A.S.P. is glam metal, and in their defense the lines are pretty blurry so it can be hard to tell.
>Dad listens to phish and grateful dead >as a result hate homosexual prog music, its just a bunch of stoned boomer queers >Jethro Tull blows my fricking dick off in college
my dad is also a Metallica Black Album and Guns N Roses guy so he just has dogshit taste I suppose
I can understand hating grateful dead from being literal glowBlack folk but funnily enough I never fully ended up jethro tull. It was all about Floyd, King Crimson, and Genesis
>floyd
I like gilmore floyd, I dont like their british invasion era >king crimson
naturally >genesis
also good >tool
I cant separate art from artist in this specific instance and cant handle Tool as a result. Maynard is such a colossal tryhard homosexual I cant enjoy his music in any capacity
no? >im a REAL metalhead >thats means I got all of my musical taste from Rock105.3 THE ROCK >my favorite bands? Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Metallica, David Lee Roths Van Halen, and dont forget MOTLEY CRUE FRICK YEAH!!!!!
Struggling to not turn into dedicated troony genre like post-black metal and straight hardcore and breakcore. While also not turning into dudeweedlmao genre, which it always had problems with.
Overall pretty dead genre I'd say, one step above the djent.
>Introduce a zoomer friend of mine to venetian snares >He hates it >Years later he shows me a breakcore album that he's been listening to recently >It sounds exactly like venetian snares
I hate trend followers so much
>first half >really good stuff >second half >emo shit
Reminds me of Attack Attack - Stick Stickly. Opening riff is great but the rest of the song is trash.
Yeah, he really do look like him.
I'd tell you to listen to the songs chronologically, their early stuff is so good.
Some of the later songs are good, but it's mostly meh.
i appreciate this discussion, Ganker is mostly people being gatekeeping buttholes but here at Ganker everyone seems to be open and receptive to different styles. Obviously there are a few people being buttholes but not nearly as bad as Ganker
That's how it is for every topic. Usually you can expect a good discussion on boards unrelated to the topic.
That being said, I've never actually seen a good videogame discussion on any board on this god forsaken site .
That goes for every off-topic thread on Ganker. I have a theory that if there was a blue /b/ board, it might, 'might' be a better place to discuss shit than on their respective boards
Ever since I heard https://youtu.be/ADofspJH6KY?si=cJC5NWM91MI6aOM2 in a gameplay trailer for a Doom WAD where you play as a katana wielding e-girl doing DMC combo aerial combo bullshit on demons, I fell in love with power metal.
I used to listen to a lot of extreme metal when I was younger until out of the blue I realized I couldn't differentiate between songs on an album and instantly stopped listening.
Black and Death metal are like the mcnuggets of music, you forget you consumed them before you're even done chewing and move onto the next one.
Fast loud Melodic metal where you can sometimes understand what the singer is saying as opposed to fsat loud nonsense noise with screaming/grunting
I'll never understand the appeal of black metal or death metal.
I can't understand why can't people like Black Metal. I listen almost nothing except it, and it was like this for the last 5 years. More than that, it's an evolving and creative genre, new albums come out almost every day, but they are ignored by most of the people.
Don't you wish you were born earlier? When metal was REAL?
No, because today is the best day to enjoy metal. It's not wrong to listen old stuff, but hundreds of new good albums come out every year. Check out Hauntologist for example.
Used to be my favorite Nightwish album but in recent years I think Imaginaerium has taken that spot. Really has their most bombastic sounding array of instrumentals and Tuomas is in his element with lyrical themes of fantasy and illusion. Shame since their recent albums were total dogshit in that regard with crap like that one album that feature fricking Richard Dawkins doing a spoken word segment and their last album that had an unironic PHONES AND SOCIAL MEDIA BAD song. I blame their new fatass panflute player, he looks like the type of homosexual that would think that shit is deep.
>that one album that feature fricking Richard Dawkins doing a spoken word segment
That's fricking based thoughever, I loved Endless Forms Most Beautiful
Don't get me wrong, I do like most of the songs on that album melodically (Elan and Alpenglow in particular are my two favorites), but the overall theme of the album and The Greatest Show on Earth can't help but make me picture all those fedora tipping atheist Youtube channels from the early 2010s.
I really liked the overall theme. It's kind of an homage to reason/innovation, while their previous stuff is more for emotion/aesthetics/tradition. I found it really fun that they decided to explore both sides of culture with passion.
Elan and Alpenglow are my favorites too.
I almost like this.
The movements and instrumentation are pretty interesting, but it's too much noise for the most part.
Maybe I need to listen to it a couple more times.
Learning that Varg was one of the people that invented black metal is incredibly funny to me, since the first thing I knew about him was that he's the "stop watching porn" guy.
He is a living meme. Invented black metal, killed mate with axe in self defense, burned down 1000 year old churches, fwas leader of nazi gang in prison, was fleeing from prison and taking a family hostage, invented larp game system, successful youtuber(but banned)
i think he stabbed euronymous with a kitchen knife not an axe, but otherwise accurate.
>Invented black metal >
and yeah he didn't "invent" black metal perse but was an incredible force behind the popularization of 2nd wave black metal (note second wave, it was already a thing)
I recently started trying to learn more about old germanic history and I found out he actually published books about their religion because Norse Magic and Beliefs cites him occasionally as a good source of information about the subject.
>listen to new albums from power metal bands such as Primal Fear, Secret Sphere, Visions of Atlantis, Iron Savior etc. >can't really enjoy them and skip songs
Did power metal die? It's like it's soul is entirely gone, I can't feel it.
When I listen back to the releases from 2000-2010 I always enjoy them but every power metal release in the past 2-3 years is absolute garbage.
Only late releases that I really enjoyed are Pyramaze's Bloodlines and Orden Ogan's Gunmen
Power metal's still alive and there's plenty coming out, it's just a lot of it is more obscure. That's kind of music in general, though. There's more music than ever before being made and it's never been easier to get access to it, which means there's both more shit and more good stuff.
Here's a bunch of more recent releases I like.

OH SHIT THE WARRIOR PATH VOCALIST IS THE GUY THAT DID THE FRICKING WAIL FROM HIGHLANDER?!

The vocals in the song I linked live rent free in my head for the rest of the day after I hear it >Through the mist >They are coming >Wearing skins from great bears >People fear them >They are running >And to face them no one DAAAAAAAAAAARES
offtopic doesnt usually get shouted down as much. Its like calling Final Fantasy dogshit on Ganker. It cant be done without a bunch of queers crying about it and calling you a troony. Here you could get away with a more nuanced conversatiom about music because a bunch of autists whose entire personality is "I only like Ganker approved music" wont ruin your thread
The unhinged schizos usually keep to their own boards, so you can say something like "Final Fantasy is good" and you won't have you-know-who, or people larping as him, show up and have a tantrum
My favorite band is Beast in Black and I lift more than every single amon amarth viking wannabe homosexual. I could quite literally pin down any and every metal snob and make them my girlfriend at any point in time. Take the meme metal pill and skull frick every person who takes this dog shit genre serious.
This thread illustrates why thrash metal is the most superior of all metals, due to the fact its melodic with audible singing but not cheesy like power metal (which I love.) Death metal vocals have always been a bit too much for me but I can handle it for the sake of sublime instrumentals which is often the case with death metal. But vocals I struggle with much more then lamb of god style.
>NOOOOOO IF YOU SING SILLY SONGS ABOUT DRAGONS AND MAGIC SWORDS INSTEAD OF DEMONS AND VIOLENCE PEOPLE WON'T THINK I'M BADASS FOR TWANGING ON THE DISTORTED ELECTRIC GEE-TAR
>t. only listens to the fetal-alcohol syndrome bastard offspring of rap where 90% of a song is some drooling guy going "yeah..... uh....... mayng....."
Nah that would be rap. Literally men dressing like children boasting about how they live in a run down shithole but spent all their money or gold teeth and nasty hoes.
I, too, remember when I was a music snob, thinking that it gave me extra value as a person. Then I grew up and understood that my thinking was moronic and simply started enjoying all things.
>Then I grew up
I don't know. I'm really not convinced.
I think you guys are low IQ and have some degree of autism which makes you kind of oblivious to how others perceive you. You think metal is cool in the same way autistics think sonic is cool. Without the younger and cheek self awareness or technical knowledge to appreciate the mechanical Skill, listening to metal and being a "metal fan" is very cringe and you probably have something wrong with you.
Melodic and Brutal are not opposites.
You are confusing Melodic with Harmony.
Listen to Dimitri Shostakovich and Bartók Béla, as they are very Melodic but at some points Brutal to the point of cacophony.
>disowns his first 2 albums >reminds fans every chance he gets that Avantasia actually started with The Scarecrow >Calls The Metal Opera 1&2 cringe to any fans that bring them up in Facebook comments

Pretentious prick, Mystery of Time and everything after that is complete turd. Same shit same songs same singers.

That other anon brought up Avantasia being a collection of famous names and that's exactly what it is now. Sounds a lot like Pantera in that regard >Band starts out life in the 80s as a glam metal band >Produces 3 albums with original lead singer Terry Glaze >Glaze leaves the band after the 3rd album due to creative decisions >Find a new guy named Phil Anselmo and make one more "glam metal" album >Ditches the pretty boy look and wiener rock lyrics in the 90s for tough guy lyrics and looks >Disowns their 80s albums whenever anybody brings them up to them
>disowns his best albums
Just like the South Park creators disown their best seasons
Sometimes once people become mainstream they become utter homosexuals, disown the works that got them there and from here on out produce utterly mediocre crap
This and just like power metal it's hated by other ARPG fans for focusing on the basics of what makes the genre addicting instead of pretending to be a serious RPG or becauze it filters the more casual ARPG fans by consigning them to Weebie Hut Jr. and calling it "normal" difficulty
Shit, I can't vote for one.
Emerald Sword is right up there with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnzFI0VL6WI for me.

Metal wasn't generally popular in 2008 eaither. It's a nitche subculture of arrested development losers and low IQ social reject teens. There is a reason there is so much intersectionality between stuff like metal and pro wrestling.
In 2008 a lot of metal fans were counterculture highschoolers. There were obviously a few gen X and literal Boomer hangers-on but I could see someone making the "underage" argument as late as that.
Nowadays though I don't think anyone under the age of 25 listens to metal unless it's from a videogame just like I do because holy frick the explosion in accessibility for creating quality music has caused intense choice paralysis with how many metal bands are easily at my fingertips. Maybe I should get into the spotify thing.
>Nowadays though I don't think anyone under the age of 25 listens to metal unless it's from a videogame
It's regional. Metal remains popular in flyover states, where you have lots of poor dumb white trash who are still a bit culturally isolated.
Genuine offtopic threads always have the potential to be pretty good, because only people actually interested in the topic enter this thread outside of specific boards in which there are mostly the same posters and memes.
Don't forget that the bots are programmed to shitpost in threads about vidya. Anything outside of those strict guidelines basically doesn't exist to them.
>release a few very good albums >stumble with Rise of Digital Nation >goat concept album >absolute garbage last album, like one of the worst things I've ever heard >the best modern songs is not even written by them and still not as good as old stuff
It's so fricking surreal seeing all the bands I've listened to for the past two decades enumerated in this thread, I've never had anyone I could talk about music with.
I can understand not liking black metal but sometimes I just like the idea of letting my mind wander and larp out to the over-the-top edgelord atmosphere.
Especially stuff like this.
The only black metal band that I respect is Immortal because unlike most chucklefricks who take themselves too seriously with satanic shit these guys just have fun
Funny enough, I didn't really appreciate black metal when I was an edgy teen and only found an appreciation for it in my comparatively less edgy mid 20's.
people who listen to one and not the other are image obsessed homosexuals who don't actually listen to the music they just have it playing when people are around.
their second and third albums stood out to me because of their singer but they're one of the few I consider a "full" band as opposed to a guitar or keyboard heavy band (Beyond the Fire, Maid of Orleans, A New World, Dies Irae all highlight the vocalist and every instrument to some degree)
I should really check out their newer stuff though
Alestorm is very basic. They are one-note band that sings about the same thing over and over again. And lately they got way too far up their own ass, starting to sing about random countries and writing sequels to their own songs.
PMIDF once again conveniently glosses over the nausea inducingly gay melodic and symphonic elements that actually distinguish power metal from the other subgenres
They're more standard heavy metal but some of their songs definitely lean toward that power metal influence
A classic band.
Sick band, learned this was the OP to Mnemosyne which was one hell of an anime. Feels good when you discover something you like that leads you to more things
It was interesting to see them move away from Touhou arranges and become their own thing. That said, I still love their old Touhou stuff. The chick can hit some notes.
I used to work at a record store and can honestly say metal fans are all pathetic homosexuals. Not as bad as middle age fat guys that are "punk", but pretty damn cringey nonetheless.
I think you're confusing the reason
People who visit record stores who like metal are pathetic homosexuals
Mostly because record stores have absolutely dickall when it comes to metal 99% of the time
Eating shit is acquired taste as well. The question is is it worth it to eat shit to get accustomed with some pop-metal abomination for people who don't like metal. Might as well listen to nu-Periphery or Monuments or Polyphia at this point.
I started to appreciate this band recently because i started writing comic dialogue inspired by old finnish rune singing like kalevala.
Don't know if there's similar bands
If you're looking for finnish folk music inspired metal then Ensiferum/Turisas/Finntroll/Moonsorrow/Norrhem/Havukruunu might be what you're looking for. Also Tales from the thousand lakes by Amorphis.
I've been addicted to this game for the past month and clocked in 80hrs already. It's fricking amazing.
The soundtrack is a bit hit and miss but sometimes it hits really fricking hard during specific missions.
i'm on my third playthrough, it's fricking crack cocaine
it's a B game but something about the slow progression vs the quick action-packed levels is seriously addictive
The first 36 seconds of Electric Eye are the best shit ever and far superior to the rest of the song.
The entire track should have followed that first part.

All metal music is corny, power metalgays are just the only ones who are man enough to admit they like corny songs about dragons
What? Is power metal supposed to be the new cool thing to hate or something? Like nu-metal in the 2000s?
metalgays have always hated power metal, saying it's not "real" metal. it's kind of sad because it's fun as frick. alestorm and gloryhammer are goat
issue is most power metal vocalists are painfully bad. like James LaBrie tier bad
It's ok to be a shit singer in this genre. It's all about the melody.
That's every metal vocalist.
Blind guardian has some of my favorite vocals in general
I too like their vocals, shame their instrumetals suck dick by and large
power metal uses keyboards/electronics, heavy metal does not, this is a big deal for metal autists, but it helped power metal not be so stale
Iron Maiden uses a lot of keyboards and string instruments, though I just realized a lot of metal purists (gays) hate all their new music despite its only real issue being Bruce's cancer.
they are just old as frick. their early run with bruce is fricking immortal but they need to hang it up man
I still enjoyed Senjutsu, even though it is noticeable that they are becoming very old, and are almost unable to pull the songs from that album off live.
Theur conposition is still great but they're starting to flag hard in their ability to actually perform.
Their age didn't really start to show until Book of Souls but even that has some good songs, Bruce was fine until his cancer hit.
Black person all the metalgays everywhere love power metal, specially Helloween and Stratovarius.
>alestorm made covers of "you are a pirate" and "pirate scorn" from the fricking donkey kong country cartoon
Yeah, it's kino
I’m sorry but Gloryhammer sucks. They’re supposed to be a parody of bands like rhapsody of fire and hammerfall but aside from a few songs on the first album they barely sound like rhapsody or metal in general so what’s even the point? And the fans don’t even know what it’s supposed to be parodying they think it’s a warhammer thing. Not to mention the constant behind the scenes drama which is something a parody band shouldn’t have.
they’re kinda entertaining but it’s hard to say they’re good they’re just riffing on rhapsody so much
I agree they have some really fun songs like almost everything on space 1992 but I don’t think of them as a good metal band
alestorm and gloryhammer are the most entry level shit humanly possible, and alestorm isn't even power metal
let me guess, you think sabaton is power metal?
Sabaton is power metal
power metal is the entry level genre
Sabaton is absolutely not power metal moron
It's arena metal
This has been confirmed by the power metal gods
>power metal is the entry level genre
every genre has entry level bands, yes even black metal despite every band trying to seem "inaccessible"
>the virgin Nathan Explosion
>the chad Toki Wartooth
>alestorm and gloryhammer
Everyone buying an eight string to be the new Periphery has ruined the metal community.
>that time when Protest the Hero joked about calling their new album Periphery III
People are still crying about Periphery?
>that time when Protest the Hero joked about calling their new album Periphery III
these guys are based lads
Didn't PTH tour with Periphery like 10 years ago?
yeah i saw them on that tour and have the poster on my wall right now hahah
Jeff Loomis, The Safety Fire (underrated lads, broken up now, two kewl albums), periphery and Today I caught the Plague (pretty good band, now called Kindred)
I believe so. I don't think PTH hated Periphery or anything like that. They were just picking on Periphery's album naming scheme. I think Spencer (Periphery vocalist) sang on stage with Rody when they performed Clarity
I thought that thing passed years ago
djent has always been a thing though. periphery is my favorite band but there are still plenty of djent bands before periphery that are great, although i agree modern djent bands are a travesty
No, that's metalcore
Music nerds can't help but be massive snobs.
Power Metal has been around since the late 70s.
Kai Hansen is the best to do it.
Early Helloween and All Gamma Ray are perfect.
2>1
I love them both, nothing better than putting either of them on lay in the darkness and just enjoy it.
What's power metal?
It's like metal but you can understand the words.
Power metal lyrics are actually not understandable because of the euro-ESL and the verse-blending.
>ESL
Español secondary language? Well yes, I do listen to every Spanish power metal band there is.
Opera Magna, that's goated.

also power metal is cool
check out Ragnarock
Fast loud Melodic metal where you can sometimes understand what the singer is saying as opposed to fsat loud nonsense noise with screaming/grunting
I'll never understand the appeal of black metal or death metal.
>Screamo
>duuuuuuuuuude screamooooooo!
Could be my ears are tuned for different singers.
>went to see gojira and mastodon
>lorna shore was opening
>took some mushrooms on the drive over
>ended up being late
>chilling in crowd
>gojira comes on stage
>completely missed Lorna
and nothing of value was lost
Screamo is a really specific genre involving emo music and screaming, it's not a term for any music involving screaming, moron
>screamo
I still am convinced that emo was some sort of elaborated prank that went out of control.
All cool kids pretended (and failed) to be goths all of a sudden and it only stuck for like 2 years before they "grew out of the phase" and became very ashamed of it.
>I'll never understand the appeal of black metal or death metal
you have to be
1) dead inside
2) heterosexual
or you won't get it
>I'll never understand the appeal of black metal or death metal.
its a genre for ugly men.
Everyone I have ever known that likes death metal hates life.
we should invent a genre called Life Metal
that's just power metal
yeah that's just power metal
that's power metal
But that IS power metal.
I like Melodic Death Metal. There is this obscure literal whi band called Parasite Inc. whose early albums I really liked. Function or Perish is one of my favorites, even though the lyrics are pretentious "look mama I'm a rebel" hogwash.
Fast, melodic, with a high-pitched singer. Sometimes about fantasy stuff like dark wizards and dragons. Good stuff.
?si=oy1U19hdR4GBQffw
>don't look at name and just click link
>think you linked Judas Priest
>it's actually not them
Judas Priest is not really power metal though, it's more heavy metal than anything
This isn't power metal.
>that's not REAL power metal!
We've gone full circle.
Metal has always been that way. Same with electronic music.
>That's not drum and bass, that's breakcore
Based lad, I was wondering if anyone gonna mention Gloryhammer.
Gonna play unicorn overlord while listening to this album
Gloryhammer FRICKING SUCKS and is cancer upon the genre. A disgrace!@
t. thomas winkler
This shit is cringe as frick. It's like those "EPIC BOSS THEME" symphonic shit spammed all over Youtube.
Do people actually listen to this?
Oh I love it mate, waddya like anon?
Metal that is "brighter" than standard stuff like Maiden or Priest
>Higher pitched
>cheesy lyrics
>wacky stuff like the occasional slide whistle
people not taking themselves seriously and just having fun shredding
watching the metal community cannibalize itself over having mildly right wing views has proven that its better to be goofy and aware of it than some homosexual liberal who listens to music about buttfricking corpses but cant handle a guy who says "Trump wasnt so bad"
Sammett is an extremely talented song writer, its just sad that he seems to only do boring boomer AOR music.
It's like regular metal but has coherent musical composition
Sabaton
Sabaton’s Night Witches and Metal Crüe are by far some of my favorite songs of all time.
?si=eZSRmWTRLpFbyzBf
?si=KB5DQ4DsmS5bsDnj
Saw them on Wacken
They fricking sucked.
Booked two stages to do absolutely nothing with them, except for the singer to run from one end to the other once, lmao.
Something I'm going to be listening till I'm 6 ft under.
It's metal for sodomites.
Bach on electric guitar singing about the lord of the rings.
?si=8sOVLKCukvFPIg8E
I think this one has the best odds of making any boomer crack a smile, honestly. Especially with the fricking goofy ass music video.
their song from sacred was my gateway to metal
Its metal but the band isn't afraid of unironically liking things and telling stories
Metal for white women
that would be symphonic metal, and it's mostly obese white women
it's like metal but with lyrics that aren't about raping corpses
Blind Guardian was my first and is still my favorite power metal band.
I had some shitty music radio app on my Xbox 360 and Turn the Page came on and I was instantly a fan forever
Metal that branched off into stronger rhythms and melodies while still keeping a semblance of rhythm, structure and composition, instead of haphazardly throwing notes out without any real plan because higher BPM
=better, and without making the singer scream like a moron like he was making an impression of a troony marge simpson dilating for the first time
Metal about wizards with +5 sword kicking your ass and shit.
The capeshit of music.
>Metaltards pretending their whole genre isn't just an exercise in making as much noise as possible
Black Metal is the most embarassing of the 3.

I do not care for Black Metal.

Whenever somehow hates on metal in general, I can only imagine them being brown or a woman.
Whenever somehow listens to metal in general, I can only imagine them being a virgin
Latinos love metal bro, even down in Central America where you'd least expect.
I know because I am brown
My favorite power metal band is Helloween and they have a new album coming and I'm very happy about it. Thanks for listening to my blog.
I love Helloween.
And Angra.
And Blind Guardian.
And Hangar.
And some songs HammerFall songs.
I love Helloween.
I don't like Angra as much as I used to.
Ditto for Blind Guardian.
Didn't know Hangar, thanks for the rec.
Ditto for Hammerfall.
a lot of boomer metal bands are way passed their expiration date and their later stuff should be skipped with some exceptions like Luca Turilli who’s just an endless kino machine, rather kill myself than listen to another boomer metal album about how they’ve still got it and their dicks definitely still work
>Angra
>Hangar
brasileiro
Yep.
Oh, I forgot one.
Rhapsody /of fire.
I still find myself listening to Emerald Sword on repeat when working.
Based. Keepers 1 and 2 and The Dark Ride are my favorite albums from them. I remember listening to their 2021 album and thinking it was just ok though.
It was just ok because Kiske is old and unfit for this bit. They should've kept him doing Unisonic or Place Vendome.
I once wrote this shit in their Instagram and they deleted my post immediately. lmao
>BUT WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE DOWN, THERE'S NO MORE TO SAAAAAAAY

power metal is fun so I guess any nintendo game
Power metal rules! Just have fun bro!
YouTube recommend me Beast in Black a few months ago. Quite surprised how well YouTube recommendations did for once.
Power metal is definitely the most fun genre but for driving music, it's gotta be prog metal
Il check it out when I cruise home
Very good album.
That album is a mix of prog, power and symphonic.
Yeah, it's great.
>hated music as a child because I only heard what garbage was on the radio

>Not only do I find music I enjoy, but it opens up several genres of music I like, including classical, through adjacent bands.
Last album was almost ten years ago...
their last couple albums sucked anyways, they were out of gas. hell of a run though
Iconoclast grew on me, but Underworld was awful. I really hope that if they come back, they make an album like Divine Wings or The New Mythology Suite. However my favorite album is easily Twilight in Olympus. Through the Looking Glass is peak SX.
based symphony chads
paradise lost was based, iconoclast i havent listened to in years but i remember not digging it much and i dont see myself liking underworld ever...
For me it's The Odyssey
The Odyssey is also great. Iconoclast might be worth a listen, there are some decent songs but also some stinkers. Underworld was just shit, I don't know what they were doing.
Iconoclast is alright.
Post that Power Metal song that you would introduce to your girlfriend's parents as a first impression.
rhapsody of fire - emerald sword
it's the quintessential power metal song, it should be everyone's first
probably some circa 2000 hammerfall or freedom call
Dragonforce - Through the Fire and Flames
>metallifies your non-metal subgenre
yw powergays
Based. Thank you Finns for making flower metal listenable.
Absolute heroes to us
that's an album i have not seen for some time. i didn't dislike this band but had a friend that listened to them autistically and that was annoying
What are some power metal band I might have heard of ? Does dragon force qualify ? I need to know if I hate it or not in order to answer op
yeah dragonforce counts
symphony x is DEFINITELY power metal, i have heard every single album by them, they are prog-power metal
i havent listened to that other band yet
Bro, Nightwish is more power metal than Symphony X. That's prog metal.
you are delusional and I am not gonna argue with you, idiot.
>dragonforce counts
Ok so it s trash then. Third person shooters story games make me feel the same way
Dragonforce is probably the most well known power metal band, especially among non-metal listeners. The song Emerald Sword by Rhapsody is another example that's also fairly prolific.
i know them from osu, the current meta on the game is really power metal friendly so a lot
this goes harder than it should
Powerwolf, the furry power metal band
Dragonforce qualifies. I don't know what you've heard of, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Powerwolf, Sabaton?
Also this sparks some debate, but you could argue that Dio was proto-power metal.
Dio was a gift from God and his influence on music in general is still plain to see.
Arent some of those symphonic metal ? Is it the same thing ? I dont follow this shit
All of them are power metal. Symphonic is something like Epica.
Yeah I confused hammerfal for haggard and I thought I knew stratovarius but I can't find any song in my folders, I probably heard one song and decided I didn't like it.
>proto-power metal.
I cant be the only one who thinks this is proto power metal
>I cant be the only one who thinks this is proto power metal
nah, the furry band agrees with you
Here's actual proto power metal.
Originally recorded in 1975
Whatever the frick were Riot thinking with that mascot?
They were thinking based

THUNDERSTEEEEEEEEEEEEEL
Dio and Iron Maiden are both inarguably proto-power metal. They put a lot of emphasis on the elements that ended up defining power metal. They weren't really power metal themselves, but they paved the way for the first power metal bands with the focus on melody, symphonic elements, anthemic lyrics, and singing about 500 year-old wizards.
If these two songs were released this year they'd be called power metal.
?si=-IafER249fSyelci

Stargazer is such a good song. It's a classic, every time I listen to it I only love it more.
>HIGH NOOON OH I'D SELL MY SOUL FOR WAAAATER
>NINE YEARS WORTH OF BREAKING MY BACK
Yeah, everything about it kicks ass.
This is another example I love and I think it might be the best Blind Guardian song for it
?si=L3g0Zci9w8QL6jzR
>I know where the stars glow
>And sky's unclouded
>Sweet the water runs my friend
I'm embarrassed to admit for me that it was Battlefield being used in Robot Unicorn Attack - Metal Edition.
Blind Guardian, Stratovarius, Powerwolf, Sabaton, Rhapsody, Galneryus, Hammerfall, Angra,
There's never really been a power metally game besides maybe the Ultima series. Hammerfall use to play at Richard Garriotte's ren faires.
What’s the video game equivalent of grindcore?

only metal game i can think of is metal gear rising revengerance.
Brutal Legend of course too but i didnt really like it.

this. power metal sounds good. black/death are tryhard wackos

No.
No, that's heavy metal. It could be argued that painkiller laid the foundations for early power metal, but painkiller itself is still well and truly classic heavy metal.
I always thought Glam Metal led to Power Metal. Iron Maiden seems pretty power metal to me, but the band is classified as Glam.

That goes for every off-topic thread on Ganker. I have a theory that if there was a blue /b/ board, it might, 'might' be a better place to discuss shit than on their respective boards
Ganker is the best community on Ganker, we just don't like games
Not saying much considering Ganker has the shittiest taste imaginable

I can't understand why can't people like Black Metal. I listen almost nothing except it, and it was like this for the last 5 years. More than that, it's an evolving and creative genre, new albums come out almost every day, but they are ignored by most of the people.
No, because today is the best day to enjoy metal. It's not wrong to listen old stuff, but hundreds of new good albums come out every year. Check out Hauntologist for example.
It appears that my superiority has not been properly observed
I like it, but wouldn't be caught listening to it in public.
I know this chick that's obsessed with Nightwish.
And cats, she's also obsessed with cats.
She's pretty cool.
Elan and Alpenglow are my favorites too.
>no Orden Ogan
I can't be the only person who's listened to these guys right?

Learning that Varg was one of the people that invented black metal is incredibly funny to me, since the first thing I knew about him was that he's the "stop watching porn" guy.
He is a living meme. Invented black metal, killed mate with axe in self defense, burned down 1000 year old churches, fwas leader of nazi gang in prison, was fleeing from prison and taking a family hostage, invented larp game system, successful youtuber(but banned)
>Invented black metal
>
i think he stabbed euronymous with a kitchen knife not an axe, but otherwise accurate.
and yeah he didn't "invent" black metal perse but was an incredible force behind the popularization of 2nd wave black metal (note second wave, it was already a thing)

Only late releases that I really enjoyed are Pyramaze's Bloodlines and Orden Ogan's Gunmen
power metal bands usually only have 1-2 good albums in them before they start sucking.
Power metal's still alive and there's plenty coming out, it's just a lot of it is more obscure. That's kind of music in general, though. There's more music than ever before being made and it's never been easier to get access to it, which means there's both more shit and more good stuff.

Why are discussions about a certain topic always better on the wrong boards?
Because the shitposters are usually too busy shitposting on the correct boards, maybe.
offtopic doesnt usually get shouted down as much.

I like power metal when its about saving kingdoms and killing dragons, less when it is about wanking yourself how fricking metal you are.

Metal is the most juvenile genre of music. Metal heads are developmentally stunted they have the arrested development of a pre-teen or younger.
>hrr brrrr derp
the truth is it’s all subjective and people like whatever they were listening to when they were 12 so don’t take music seriously
NPC take.
My comment didn't even have anything to do with metal itself, it likely attracts flies to shit in the same way sonic the hedgehog does.
>attention span so low he forgot his own post
zoomerGOD... i kneel...
>t. only listens to the fetal-alcohol syndrome bastard offspring of rap where 90% of a song is some drooling guy going "yeah..... uh.......

Mentally ill because his first two albums weren't overproduced crap like everything that came afterwards.
I still love Edguy no matter what.
Feels like ragebait at this rate.
Frick him.
Mysteria still lives rent free in my head
Nothing offends me except the claim to want to cut his hair.
Oh yeah, you just reminded me that Jorn exists since you mentioned The Scarecrow.
I wish more people knew about him, he's got the all-time great vox.
You can tell he's one of those people that were insecure when they were younger so in their later years they're desperate to shed their "cringe" past and are desperate to be liked. That other anon brought up Avantasia being a collection of famous names and that's exactly what it is now. And to his credit, The Scarecrow is legitimately good but everything else afterwards just feels overly pretentious.
Sounds a lot like Pantera in that regard
>Band starts out life in the 80s as a glam metal band

I wish they'd come back...
arpeggios from hell
arpeggios from KFC
Death metal has always been and will always be a joke.
Ys specifically
This and just like power metal it's hated by other ARPG fans for focusing on the basics of what makes the genre addicting instead of pretending to be a serious RPG or becauze it filters the more casual ARPG fans by consigning them to Weebie Hut Jr. and calling it "normal" difficulty
Is this THE power metal song?
Shit, I can't vote for one.
Emerald Sword is right up there with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RnzFI0VL6WI for me.
There's some good 10 or so songs that I could choose as the number one.
Seriously, it's hilarious that they have some actually good music amidst all the ones that are just fun.
Not powermetal, but does anyone have more stuff like Heilung?
They're not really the same, but these groups scratch the same kind of itch for me
I never really dug into their stuff before but I saw a norse covid vs rome pigeon meme involving this one and I was hooked. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2wy-W-pYlds
>tfw it's easier to keep a metal thread alive on Ganker than on Ganker
Ganker tried to kill the metal!
Ha ha ha ha
They failed, as they were stricken down to the ground!
I love you Jack Black you goof.
Ganker is the most underage board.
Then why would it be better at talking about a boimer genre?
This ain't 2008 anymore, gramps.
Metal wasn't generally popular in 2008 eaither. It's a nitche subculture of arrested development losers and low IQ social reject teens. There is a reason there is so much intersectionality between stuff like metal and pro wrestling.
why are you seething so much and just making up stuff?
Doesn't Ganker have a metal general? I don't browse it since they don't like Opeth, but it looked like a persistent thread to me
Ganker is too far up its own ass
Genuine offtopic threads always have the potential to be pretty good, because only people actually interested in the topic enter this thread outside of specific boards in which there are mostly the same posters and memes.
Don't forget that the bots are programmed to shitpost in threads about vidya. Anything outside of those strict guidelines basically doesn't exist to them.
>release a few very good albums

It's not the vocals, it's the way it drones on and sounds so flat compared to more melodic stuff. I need stimulation.
Really depends on what black metal band you're seeking out, anon.

The only black metal band that I respect is Immortal because unlike most chucklefricks who take themselves too seriously with satanic shit these guys just have fun
Maybe you'd like Bathory? Quorthon started the genre by being an edgy jokester after all
didn't one of the members burn down a church?
That's Mayhem
power metal is fun to listen to 🙂
black metal is fun to listen to 🙂
Funny enough, I didn't really appreciate black metal when I was an edgy teen and only found an appreciation for it in my comparatively less edgy mid 20's.
Black/Death Metal always looked like the biggest poser shit to my autistic eyes, it's laughable really.
It certainly didn't help that I had a friend at the time who was really into it, to the point where it kind of put me off from it, yeah.
Same, dude used to turn on Ammon Amarth on his 7.1 to scare away the neighbors.
same except im still an edgelord. DSBM is especially great
Pretty much the same, though I like to vary things up so it's not like I exclusively listen to it.
Metal is a genre for morons.
t. only listens to classical music
people who listen to one and not the other are image obsessed homosexuals who don't actually listen to the music they just have it playing when people are around.
my playlist has Liszt's Hungarian Rhapsodies (performed by Cziffra) right next to both Cain's Offering albums and Michael Jackson's HIStory
great
Got any recommendations for original composers of the modern age?
>classical
>modern age
>casually makes a power metal version of Dvorak's New World Symphony
>He listens to down tempo stuff with trumpets, acoustic guitars, bells, toy pianos, and female vocalists singing sexually ambiguous lyrics
What game fits a song about the end of everything and being the last one alive?
I like the old Dark Moor albums, also Rhapsody
This sounds great, I'm gonna check them out.
They went downhill after Elisa (lead singer) and a few others left but their old stuff with her is top tier
Uh, Dark Moor is still a banger.
Didnt know they released a new album last year I'll check it out
their second and third albums stood out to me because of their singer but they're one of the few I consider a "full" band as opposed to a guitar or keyboard heavy band (Beyond the Fire, Maid of Orleans, A New World, Dies Irae all highlight the vocalist and every instrument to some degree)
I should really check out their newer stuff though
For me it's Folk Metal.

If Alestorm is entry level I don't want to be advanced level lol
Alestorm is very basic. They are one-note band that sings about the same thing over and over again. And lately they got way too far up their own ass, starting to sing about random countries and writing sequels to their own songs.
Ah, that's what I thought you meant. Well, that's why other bands exist. You shouldn't just be listening to the same band over and over.

PMIDF once again conveniently glosses over the nausea inducingly gay melodic and symphonic elements that actually distinguish power metal from the other subgenres
what's gay about melody and symphonic elements
the answer is it's gay if you don't like it according to you
>nausea inducingly gay melodic and symphonic elements
So basically you just hate actually good, well-crafted music?
synth organs and church bell samples aren't what i'd consider quality

Some would say they are more VK than power metal but there's a lot of overlap between VK and other genres anyways. Love this band.
They're more standard heavy metal but some of their songs definitely lean toward that power metal influence
Sick band, learned this was the OP to Mnemosyne which was one hell of an anime. Feels good when you discover something you like that leads you to more things
maybe not really power metal
It was interesting to see them move away from Touhou arranges and become their own thing. That said, I still love their old Touhou stuff. The chick can hit some notes.
This one was always my favorite.
They had so many bangers.
I recommend Galneryus.
I used to work at a record store and can honestly say metal fans are all pathetic homosexuals. Not as bad as middle age fat guys that are "punk", but pretty damn cringey nonetheless.
You have not met me!
I think you're confusing the reason
People who visit record stores who like metal are pathetic homosexuals
Mostly because record stores have absolutely dickall when it comes to metal 99% of the time
Hair Metal is unironically one of my favorites.
same but I'm bisexual
I like glam metal too. Lot of good stuff that requires digging past the overplayed radio hits and ballads.
>makes metal mainstream again
how did they do it?
by dressing like an anime villain apparently
Appeal to baddie-core, like deftones
Just looked them up, what the actual frick am I listening to?
its an acquired taste. honestly i wouldnt even call most of their songs metal but it is, apparently.
>acquired taste
humans are the master of adaptation, even fooling themselves to enjoy the taste of garbage
Eating shit is acquired taste as well. The question is is it worth it to eat shit to get accustomed with some pop-metal abomination for people who don't like metal. Might as well listen to nu-Periphery or Monuments or Polyphia at this point.
The hesher era of metal was the best era

It's not Power/Black/Death metal so I didn't want to post double offtopic, but listen to Leprous if you like prog metal.
I like Lacuna Coil.
that one song was fitting for VtMB, i'll give them that

Always has been.
Hardly the first time it's happened.
The golden rule of Ganker is that discussion about topics are always better on boards that aren't actually about the topic.

MW5 has a very Power Metal adjacent soundtrack and I love it despite not being a fan of the genre.
I've been addicted to this game for the past month and clocked in 80hrs already. It's fricking amazing.
The soundtrack is a bit hit and miss but sometimes it hits really fricking hard during specific missions.

I don't want this thread to end.
It's ok. Maybe the real metal was friends we made along the way.
One day I will make a forum where I can talk about metal with my bros ALL DAY. My forum will be part of the MMORPG I will solo develop.
There'll be another one someday.
QUICK BEFORE THIS THREAD ENDS, post a song you discovered via the last metal thread on Ganker
See you on the other side
Everything good has to end.
LOOOOORD OF ALL NOLDOOOOOOR
I really like when bands step out of their comfort zone and do something different
Opeth comes to mind about that
I guess I'll give them another try then, I didn't really like what I heard by them before
All albums after Watershed completely ditch the growling
The first 36 seconds of Electric Eye are the best shit ever and far superior to the rest of the song.
The entire track should have followed that first part.
Okay, thread's ending. You get to post 1 (one) song!
Basic but I love it
