Iron Maiden uses a lot of keyboards and string instruments, though I just realized a lot of metal purists (gays) hate all their new music despite its only real issue being Bruce's cancer.

I’m sorry but Gloryhammer sucks. They’re supposed to be a parody of bands like rhapsody of fire and hammerfall but aside from a few songs on the first album they barely sound like rhapsody or metal in general so what’s even the point? And the fans don’t even know what it’s supposed to be parodying they think it’s a warhammer thing. Not to mention the constant behind the scenes drama which is something a parody band shouldn’t have.

Black/Death metal can be good in my opinion, but it REALLY depends on the singer of the band. Screamo needs to be done correctly and most singers actually suck at it and just sing in a garbled tone while 'fans' follow trends on how they think screamo is done, or singers get carried by the rest of their instrument players because they play 500 times better than how the singer singslooking at you Lorna Shore.

You're probably confusing metalcore with actual metal (or you just can't stand normal black metal vocals)
Here's a metalcore band covering a melodic death metal song in what I would (back in the day) probably call "screamo"

here's the original (their most "normally sung" song)

And here's a normal song from the band.

The execution and mixing might matter a lot, but I think people are just bad at finding styles of the vocals that they like.

            Anonymous

Honestly, yeah. To me that singing by Black Tears is done really well. But maybe I'm using the wrong terminology and completely out of the loop on how to describe the singing of death metal. Cannibal Corpse is good, and I've been liking Frozen Soul. But their are other bands that I don't get the vocals at all. Could be my ears are tuned for different singers.

Dragonforce qualifies. I don't know what you've heard of, Stratovarius, Hammerfall, Powerwolf, Sabaton?

It's a genre of metal that's in the "melodic" and "hype" segment of the metal compass. So there's a clear composition and flow to the song and the lyrics can be discerned by human ears, and they're usually pretty positive or exciting and not about how you're going to be skullfricked by Satan's barbed devildick. It's also probably about an elf or a dragon and the band's mother language probably has an ö in its lexicon.

That's all to say it is the objectively best genre of music.

I always thought Glam Metal led to Power Metal. Iron Maiden seems pretty power metal to me, but the band is classified as Glam.

Dio and Iron Maiden are both inarguably proto-power metal. They put a lot of emphasis on the elements that ended up defining power metal. They weren't really power metal themselves, but they paved the way for the first power metal bands with the focus on melody, symphonic elements, anthemic lyrics, and singing about 500 year-old wizards.

If these two songs were released this year they'd be called power metal.

Yeah, everything about it kicks ass. It's hard to describe, but it's really good at capturing this feeling that I think is core to power metal where it's trying to evoke the feeling and energy of a fantastical or mystical place with the lyrics working with the melody. And the lyrics in the genre tend to be so good at getting stuck in your head that it really gets you yearning for that imagery.

This is another example I love and I think it might be the best Blind Guardian song for it

            ?si=L3g0Zci9w8QL6jzR
            >I know where the stars glow
            >And sky's unclouded
            >Sweet the water runs my friend

their song from sacred was my gateway to metal

I'm embarrassed to admit for me that it was Battlefield being used in Robot Unicorn Attack - Metal Edition.

Fast loud Melodic metal where you can sometimes understand what the singer is saying as opposed to fsat loud nonsense noise with screaming/grunting
I'll never understand the appeal of black metal or death metal.

I can't understand why can't people like Black Metal. I listen almost nothing except it, and it was like this for the last 5 years. More than that, it's an evolving and creative genre, new albums come out almost every day, but they are ignored by most of the people.

Don't you wish you were born earlier? When metal was REAL?

No, because today is the best day to enjoy metal. It's not wrong to listen old stuff, but hundreds of new good albums come out every year. Check out Hauntologist for example.

Used to be my favorite Nightwish album but in recent years I think Imaginaerium has taken that spot. Really has their most bombastic sounding array of instrumentals and Tuomas is in his element with lyrical themes of fantasy and illusion. Shame since their recent albums were total dogshit in that regard with crap like that one album that feature fricking Richard Dawkins doing a spoken word segment and their last album that had an unironic PHONES AND SOCIAL MEDIA BAD song. I blame their new fatass panflute player, he looks like the type of homosexual that would think that shit is deep.

Don't get me wrong, I do like most of the songs on that album melodically (Elan and Alpenglow in particular are my two favorites), but the overall theme of the album and The Greatest Show on Earth can't help but make me picture all those fedora tipping atheist Youtube channels from the early 2010s.

            Anonymous

I really liked the overall theme. It's kind of an homage to reason/innovation, while their previous stuff is more for emotion/aesthetics/tradition. I found it really fun that they decided to explore both sides of culture with passion.
Elan and Alpenglow are my favorites too.

This thread illustrates why thrash metal is the most superior of all metals, due to the fact its melodic with audible singing but not cheesy like power metal (which I love.) Death metal vocals have always been a bit too much for me but I can handle it for the sake of sublime instrumentals which is often the case with death metal. But vocals I struggle with much more then lamb of god style.

I, too, remember when I was a music snob, thinking that it gave me extra value as a person. Then I grew up and understood that my thinking was moronic and simply started enjoying all things.

        I don't know. I'm really not convinced.

I think you guys are low IQ and have some degree of autism which makes you kind of oblivious to how others perceive you. You think metal is cool in the same way autistics think sonic is cool. Without the younger and cheek self awareness or technical knowledge to appreciate the mechanical Skill, listening to metal and being a "metal fan" is very cringe and you probably have something wrong with you.

Melodic and Brutal are not opposites.
You are confusing Melodic with Harmony.
Listen to Dimitri Shostakovich and Bartók Béla, as they are very Melodic but at some points Brutal to the point of cacophony.

Metal wasn't generally popular in 2008 eaither. It's a nitche subculture of arrested development losers and low IQ social reject teens. There is a reason there is so much intersectionality between stuff like metal and pro wrestling.

In 2008 a lot of metal fans were counterculture highschoolers. There were obviously a few gen X and literal Boomer hangers-on but I could see someone making the "underage" argument as late as that.
Nowadays though I don't think anyone under the age of 25 listens to metal unless it's from a videogame just like I do because holy frick the explosion in accessibility for creating quality music has caused intense choice paralysis with how many metal bands are easily at my fingertips. Maybe I should get into the spotify thing.

I used to work at a record store and can honestly say metal fans are all pathetic homosexuals. Not as bad as middle age fat guys that are "punk", but pretty damn cringey nonetheless.

I think you're confusing the reason
People who visit record stores who like metal are pathetic homosexuals
Mostly because record stores have absolutely dickall when it comes to metal 99% of the time

I like glam metal too. Lot of good stuff that requires digging past the overplayed radio hits and ballads.

humans are the master of adaptation, even fooling themselves to enjoy the taste of garbage

Eating shit is acquired taste as well. The question is is it worth it to eat shit to get accustomed with some pop-metal abomination for people who don't like metal. Might as well listen to nu-Periphery or Monuments or Polyphia at this point.

I started to appreciate this band recently because i started writing comic dialogue inspired by old finnish rune singing like kalevala.
Don't know if there's similar bands

If you're looking for finnish folk music inspired metal then Ensiferum/Turisas/Finntroll/Moonsorrow/Norrhem/Havukruunu might be what you're looking for. Also Tales from the thousand lakes by Amorphis.

It's not Power/Black/Death metal so I didn't want to post double offtopic, but listen to Leprous if you like prog metal.

I've been addicted to this game for the past month and clocked in 80hrs already. It's fricking amazing.
The soundtrack is a bit hit and miss but sometimes it hits really fricking hard during specific missions.
