skyrim
Nothing. I will never become cynical
Spore was my first one
death stranding. I enjoyed it but it was hyped up as this new big genre when it was just a stealth game with invisible enemies
BioShock infinite
Bioshock Infinite bros
Fallout 4
Tales of Arise
None.
For every bitter failure, I get an unexpected fun game.
Nothing. I will never not be cynical
ff16
>too easy
>if you try to play in a way to make it yourself harder by not using potions etc. so you can eventualy faiö a fight you get rewarded with full health and full potions and a boss health checkpoint
i didn't expect it to be this dumbed down for mass appeal but if ff14/15 is anything to go by i should have seen it coming. it's legit the only thing keeping it from being enjoyable to me.
fail a fight*
Spore taught me a valuable lesson.
it's not fair
Kerbal Space Program 2
Fable 3
Diablo III was traumatizing. They literally hate us.
I mean it was pretty good at launch and for a few months after, but after the expansion it actively got shittier and shittier
Footbawd
That one overhyped Xbox 360 game that came out around 2008. It was some 3rd person shooter MMO thing, I don't even remember the name.
spore
Spore, Spore destroyed any hype for any game and stopped me from preordering again.
Evolve
Evolve mightve been a steaming pile of shit but the beta was the last time i had genuine fun with a new multiplayer game.
No more heros 3. Never lived up to the hype thanks to the crappy performance, filler missions, repetitive mechanics due to relying on the deathdrive glove, and weak payoff with bosses
While not completely killing my ability to be hyped for vidya, Brawl was definitely my first lesson in tempering my expectations.
Yea this one was a bummer, too. It's especially glaring when TSA ended up being way better than expected and appeared to be a return to creative form. I'm looking forward still to whatever he has planned next, but NMH3 definitely killed the cope of GHM's lackluster output being due to suda51 not directing.
>he conflated developers with publishers
oh no no no
Was anyone actually hyped for this? I thought it was one of those
>everyone knows its going to flop except the developers for some reason
like with Forspoken
Victoria 3
Unfortunately, it took me that long to figure it out
Shin Megami Tensei V
Cyberpunk 2077
Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts
Watch Dogs 1
generic isekai that has nothing going for it other than "furries lmao"
god there's been so fricking many
I think maybe the oldest one was shadow the hedgehog when I was like, 12? 13? one of the worst games I've ever played
Wow you guys really paid money for Spore, huh?
yeah I didn't know anything about what was promised, I just saw "whoa you can make your own monsters?" and that was all it took
I look back on Spore fondly, but I didn’t pay money to buy the game because I pirated it. And that’s without any expectations of what it even was. Those were the days.
First it was Portal 2.
It felt really short and quickly turned into more of a talky story game with puzzles with too much "not portals" shit in it.
But the real one was Dark Souls 2. Nothing more needs to be said about that
cyberpunk 2077 definitely, it had everything to surpass the GTA franchise.. but because of prey and greed the chances are gone... unfortunately.
Mass Effect Andromeda and Cyberpunk 2077
To be clear, I haven't preordered (or bought) any of these games but I was putting a lot of hopes in them being solid RPGs.
If you were hyped for a bioware title that long after DA2 or ME3 then you dont really have much of an excuse. They showed their hand quite a while earlier.
Fair point. I was deluded in thinking they couldn't afford to repeat the mistakes made in DA:I or ME3. Evidently, they could and they did.
>Mass effect 2
I get why you feel that way, but ME2 is a fun ride as long as you don't think too much about the overarching story.
That anime was shit, but the raccoon girl was cute.
The show was pure garbage but wolf guy was hot and had a BNA_V5 set, it's all that matters.
>gay
opinion discarded
MGSV snuffed a lot of that out for me
Trigger's animations are great but their shows just get boring aside from the slapstick and spectacle. It's why I hope they learn something from working on Dungeon Meshi.
Little Witch Academia and Kill a Kill are both kino.
Kill la Kill was scrapped and rewritten halfway through the season and it shows. It was an open heart surgery of storytelling.
they sure did a good job staying true to gainax's messiness
Are you implying that Best mom becoming the villain was bad?
Every moment this b***h was on the scene was kino of the highest order.
Such a god damn glorious character.
BotW.
Then Sekiro made me realize there was still hope.
probably going to be pikmin 4
Final Fantasy XIV. The original.
it doesn't have to be
god what a terrible animation style, is this trigger?
The stars didn't tip you off?
seems like they did tip him off considering he asked if it was trigger
Duke Nukem Forever
bump
BioShock Infinite. I was so into the original because it was my foray into PC gaming, due to never having a gaming-capable PC up to that point. Then this overhyped pseudo-intellectual crap comes out. Haven't felt the feeling of hype since.
This. Played the first two Bioshocks and was hyped to try something that seemed so different.
At least Elizabeth was hot.
Wasn't hyped for it, but Watch Dogs.
Starcraft 2
Devil May Cry 2
No More Heroes 2
Bayonetta 3
Cyberjunk 2077
Destiny
For video games, probably MGSV: The Phantom Pain, but unironically that show as well. The show really needed more episodes to flesh out the Cast and setting if they were going to dedicate one to a baseball episode (even if that episode was great).
I don't get hyped for games
MGS V; I kind of enjoyed it but it was so underwhelming. Death Stranding was underwhelming too but a bit less at least - I wasnt as hyped either though
Turning point in industry
>someone finally releases a video game for smart people
>gamers hate it
How predictably boring.
w a i t a m i n u t e t h a t c a r d
Midwit opinion
please turn the bots off.
I like how even journos are poisoned on this game nowadays, when they were the ones championing it for the first year of its release.
probably decided they should change their opinions since it was so widely disliked
too furry for ironic weebs
not furry enough for furgays
a sweetspot of shit
What are you talking about? Michiru is popular with furries.
>Elite Dangerous: Odyssey
>BF2042
I was really excited for Odyssey and got supremely assblasted over how much of a shit show it was. Frick you FDev. But with BF2042, I had no expectations and was still let down only a few months later.
I'm surprised my disillusionment hadn't happened sooner.
Doom 3.
I've never been "hyped" for a game. I've always bought them well after release usually by hearing talk about them online and I've gotten invested after that while playing and finding out how good they were.
MGS V honestly
Cyberpunk
Zero Time Dilemma
Starcraft 2
TotK
How was BotW not already your indicator?
gonna go out on a limb here and say he probably liked botw
blue protocol
the trailers looked great and even the streamers liked closed beta tests but when it went live we found out the devs were basically hiding that there is no content
MGSV
Halo Infinite.
I thought it was Call off Duty Vanguard at first, and while I like that game, I could see immediately that Call of Duty is over upon playing the MW2022 beta.
i dont remember
gotta guess something between PS2 and ps3 or 2004-2008
Battlefield 1 / WW2 / 2024
Elden wienerring
Stalker 2
Never bought nor played them either lol
I grew up playing morrowind and was beyond stoked as a 13-year-old when Oblivion was announced. Child mind went wild. Convinced my parents to let me preorder it. To this day, remains the first and only game I've ever preordered.
still sank a lot of hours in it though
For all its problems I could still tolerate Oblivion if not for the shitass dungeons and levelled loot.
It was just another game in the end. I remember being blown away by the teaser images and trailers - stuff like the physics and "radiant AI" seemed huge compared to what came before it.
I also feel like it marked the start of the transition to making game worlds bigger and bigger but not by adding more content, more by spreading content thinner. A more shallow experience. That could also be rose-tinted specs though.
Death Stranding
Bannerlord
Bannerlord's getting there at least.
I hope so. I'll build my new pc next weekend so I'll be able to play it again after two years. Was very disappointed when it came out.
Zelda Skyward sword
WoW Cataclysm
I was pretty young at the time so I learned my lesson well and didn't fall for israeli marketing trickery ever since
It hasnt happened yet with a game that i was waiting for, the thing that happens to me is that i get hyped with opinions of other people and then get disapointed when i bought the game and its shit.
>thanks giantbomb
This happened to me with Serious Sam and Atelier Sophie 2. FRICK other people’s opinions.
Not any particular game, the last preorder I remember was WoL and that was my brother still getting Blizzard games on principle.
I have been buying year old games on sales or, sometimes, as an immediate kneejerk rejection after hearing the music. So at least in most cases the games will have to stand the test of time. Never bought AAA.
Dragon Age 2
Bioshock Infinite
also the last time I bought something on release
>ctrl+f
>Mass Effect 3
>0 matches
Huh.
it was always a shit franchise
Mass Effect was broadly good and Mass Effect 2 had good parts to it. Sorry about your terminal contrarianism but back when ME1 released Ganker liked it.
and when Ganker liked it and never shut up about it i tried it because you homosexuals considered it good , and i that shit was unplayable without any choices
this
pretty sure people that eat up slop like mass effect clap and cheer at modern gaming industry
MGSV. At the end of the day Ghost Recon Wildlands is everything V should have been but with inferior graphics.
Death Stranding. I gave Kojima the benefit of the doubt for Metal Gear. Maybe he had problems with the board, maybe they didn't share the same creative vision as he did. Turns out the guy is an egomaniac who really just wants to make movies.
Rainbow 6 Vegas. Game completely ditched all of the shit I enjoyed in the series on PC until then, and they've yet to return in modern releases.
she's cute, I like her.
What was the big deal with Bioshock Infinite? I thought it was alright, but I wasn't huge on the first two anyway so maybe I'm missing something
Game was as normie-friendly as possible and raved as 10/10 GOTYAY by every news publication.
it was the embodiment of everything bad with videogames at the time it came out
turned a franchise that was atmospheric imsim lite into a terrible console fps while still clinging to mechanics that now made absolutely no sense
I was also baffled by the backlash until I replayed it a few months ago. I had fond memories of it but upon replaying it I realized that there's really nothing interesting in it gameplay wise. It's all eye candy. I struggled to finish it.
The first two Bioshock games were softcore System Shock. It was a unique blend of RPG and FPS that was a fresh breath of air at the time.
Infinite was Call of Duty in the sky. Exploration? Gone. The environments were pretty, but for the most part they were glossy corridors with nice skyboxes. The weapon limit was cut down to two, and upgrades did nothing interesting to said weapons. Plasmids are cut down to eight, most of which do the same thing, which is stun. The tonics - Bioshock's version of a perk system that allowed for a variety of builds - was been stripped down to barebones and renamed the gear system, now making zero sense in the context of the game.
It tossed away everything that made the franchise unique and replaced it with generic fps gameplay.
The story banks on you being a moron incapable of thinking on it for more than three minutes, because if you do it falls apart. How does Booker, a broke frickup with ptsd, become president of Columbia on account of getting baptized? If Columbia is hyper-racist why are they letting non-whites in in the first place? It's a flying city, they can't just wander in. If the technology that makes the city float revolves around a "particle that fails to fall", why is everything covered in balloons? Why are constants and variables a thing? Why do the time wizards need Booker's help to sort shit out when they're fricking time wizards with boundless power? And so forth. just play the game, think about the story critically and it comes apart at the seams again and again and again. It's insulting.
And everyone just gobbled this shit up. It was praised as a ten out of ten classic with a deep, meaningful story that tackled hard subjects most games wouldn't touch. It was so smart, so innovative. A true work of genius.
It still makes me angry.
I bought Destiny 1 full price day 1
Never, ever again
So you liked what you saw in the open beta?
For me it was the Uncharted """Collection""". When they announced it was coming to PC I was genuinely excited because Uncharted games were the only good movie games Snoy ever put out and I had a fricking blast with 3's multiplayer, but then I realized it was just 4 and the DLC and I can not understate my sheer fricking disappointment. Then I looked at the Steam reviews of the collection and it was just a bunch of fricking homosexual dickriders giving positive reviews begging for them to port 1-3. That was really the last straw for me.
I want this industry to collapse. I want every last major video game publisher to go completely bankrupt. I want their wives out on the street sucking the dicks of obese truckers for $20 a pop. I genuinely, from the bottom of my heart, hope they suffer.
You can watch the Uncharted 1-3 movies on YouTube in HD.
At least you acknowledge it’s the publishers and not the developers.
Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4 coming out in the same week and me playing neither a month later.
not sure, but my current pessimism is great, i'm either right or happy being wrong, it's win/win
Alright homosexual. Dump the furry porn already.
This. This is an anime off topic thread so lets drop the BS.
Are you trying to imply BNA was a shit overhyped anime?
Because you're correct
Guild Wars 2. MMOs are my favorite genre and that really fricked me up. I kinda like GW2 currently though its alright.
the 2011 video games library
Spore
Destiny. But more when they had trailers talking about all the interesting world building that was dropped and the writers fired. Jesus christ i fricking hate looter shooters.
Mass effect 2
sex with michiru
I agree
Why she white?
Are you being racist?
Yes
What's the sauce on that one?
Stable Diffusion, using the BNA Lora with "AnyLora Checkpoint" as the checkpoint, both from CivitAI
Balan Wonderworld. Yes, I really wanted to play that, even shilled the demo here for a couple days before it was out.
God BNA was such fricking shit, it really did kill the trigger Black person hype
Anyways, I guess Crysis 2 is more or less the vidya equivalent
assassins creed 3 and bioshock infinate. I preordered both of them. Ive never preordered a game since.
Getting hyped for games has never made sense to me. It's a product to consume, it's not a life-changing event.
Wo Long.
Got 1400h in Nioh 2(+-1000 in Nioh 1) and was hyped as all hell for more TeamNinja(skipped the Chaos meme game because I fricking hate FF). I finished Wo Long with zero interest to replay it. Not a terrible game, but it wasn't even 10% as fun as Nioh 2. Funny enough Lu Bu and Zhang Liao are the 2 best bosses TeamNinja ever made, shame they're stuck in that game tho.
Gta 5. I loved, and still love GTA 4 so much. They took everything I liked about the game and left it behind
Dragon Age: Inquisition
MGSV
ffxv, after years of being hypes up by trailers and showcases, the "finished" product was a serious let down.
Breath of the wild, and then foolishly later Tears of the Kingdom
I'm not so contrarian to call them "bad" games. They're generally well polished, highly detailed and have some great setpieces to them
But by God I can't ever call them good either. So empty, tedious, and repetitive. And stretched out to 70+ hours for BOTW and 100+ for TOTK. It feels like a fricking joke, Majora's Mask feels like it has more enemy variety by the end of woodfall temple than BOTW does is the entire game.
Tears of the Kingdom.
I was more excited for it than anything, literally the only game I gave a shit about since BotW.
The game was fricking disappointing, I don't care what coping redditgays say.
They completely retconned BotW, the story was fricking terrible, Ganondorf was shit, the underground was boring as fricking and felt like a shitty alien planet instead of a something cooler. The sky was fricking barren and copy-pasted as frick.
I want to frick the racoon lady.
Skyward Sword
Colonial Marines. I preordered the collector's edition, too.
Probably fire emblem fates, i remember reading about the game when it was already out in JP and couldn't wait for it. When it came out Birthright was incredibly fricking boring and plain, conquest has the most moronic FE story in the franchise but has the best gameplay, it was a mixed bag that's only salvaged by conquest's gameplay and the music; but it was a good lesson to not get overly invested before a game releases.
brutal legend
Xenoblade 3 was the straw that broke the camel's back
Fable 1
Kingdom Hearts 3
TW Rome 2
spore
For honor
bf2042 was the last straw but there were several games before that started this
Overwatch
No one game really, just a variety of factors like:
-the creeping monetization of games
-games changing their base mechanics sometimes multiple times even well after release (Stellaris, Vermintide 2, Payday 2, 7 Days to Die if you ignore it being a forever alpha)
-games releasing as total messes
-GPU unaffordability
-cheating in competitive games
That's not to say I don't find games I like. I've been enjoying From the Depths, Stationeers, Vintage Story, Blasphemous, PULSAR Lost Colony, Barotrauma, Terratech, Valheim... lots of good games out there if you ignore AAA
Final Fantasy 15 or Sonic 06
