I think xrd was fine. Retconning asuka into being a goody two shoes and blaming most of the things the universal will die on the original was a big mistake.
Daisuke became wet feed cause he didn't know how to make asuka a bad guy.

The Crusades are fun that's why I'm trying to get it to work somehow. The game needs to be able to do a lot od things.

Like scale power levels from normal human beings up to earth destroying monsters.

Machinery is prohibited but those that still use it managed to built a flying country.

Simple magic from floating to reality bending stupidity.

      It basically needs it all.

I'm not sure about Exalted most recent edition, but as for shadowrun as long as you're running 3rd you should be fine.

Not that id use either for running a Guilty Gear themed game. My experience with Exalted is the player choices are exceedingly narrow and while Shadowrun is marginally better it's not suited to the more bombastic characters GG is known for.

Use an anime or superhero style system Mutants and Masterminds, BESM, Truth and Justice, OVA, SWADE

            has much better suggestions.

The way a lot of the old lore (like the fricking Drama CDs or even the weird singleplayer game) converges into Xrd is imo one of the coolest parts, it has a good balance of pay-off and new intrigue.

        >xrd and strive have fine stories
i get that anon because they do not really. the gear human conflict gets completely resolved on a whim. xrd it's suddenly about a bunch bog standard anime trope girls and postpones the interesting part of That Man's original plan.

Strive has the audacity to drop this part completely and retconning that man from an interesting person that is willing to commit genocide for the survival of humanity to someone who hasn't even done all those things.

Not only did That Man not commit any evil acts. The Universal will also did not commit any evil acts. It was all The Original for some stupid reason. I don't get why Daisuke did what he did. Because he could've just commited to The Universal will leaving Ariels, entering the second Jack-O Vessel and doing all its shenanigans.

Also Strive's story was kind of boring compared to what happened during the Crusades and Sol got nerfed big time throughout all of it. And not to forget all the other characters dropped plots. Very lame.

I'm not sure about Exalted most recent edition, but as for shadowrun as long as you're running 3rd you should be fine.

          >i get that anon because they do not really. the gear human conflict gets completely resolved on a whim.
iirc it was the Overture that built up towards this direction, in fact that ending itself is very saccharine and almost implies that things are already perfect, but then the short-story between Overture and Xrd (that one with like 5 pages or something) itself takes a step back to recognize a few details and explain things further, it still ends a bit quick but it was an upgrade over the Overture ending imo.
In any case that conversation between Sol and Ky in Xrd is my favorite scene of the whole franchise, I never cared about Ky until his direction around Overture and Xrd.

Overture was an entire game that resolved the human/gear conflict, it wasn't resolved on a whim. Hell, even X was mostly about anime girls, given that it mostly centered around Dizzy and what she represented. X2 got into the PWAB heavily, which is where everything in Xrd got it's start as well, so the gear conflict had long ago been resolved.

And we knew basically nothing about That Man/Asuka before Strive, including his intentions or actions. X2 was the first part where we started to get that things weren't as clear as they seemed(as well as going into Justice just being Aria), and then Overture is where it got into his motives being very different, but even with him being a boss we got basically nothing about him until Strive.

But the story has always centered around the lost of Aria and creation of Justice being a terrible event that both Sol and Asuka had a hand in, and that both of them sought to atone for in some fashion. That byline hasn't really changed at all from even the first game.

For me I liked that edgy designs and attitude the game had which was the only reason why I got into GG. Now they are just playing it safe with the exception of a couple of characters that are trying to break free like happy chaos or zombie faust. Of course if you complain about any of this you are just a "toxic hater" and the person happens to be waving a flag around that mains Bridget or Bedman and never cared about the series beforehand.

Funny enough, they changed Faust from his old school goofiness to this lanky horror-movie thing because they thought his humor was "too japanese" and wanted him to be more understandable to western audiences.
        >Bridget
God, do not fricking remind me. I knew for a fact after what happened with Testament's they/them bullshit that Bridget coming back to the series was going to be a horrible affair considering CURRENT YEAR climate, but that goddamn interview by Daisuke had basically thrown oil on the fire.
        >Bedman
What's up with him? I haven't been totally in the loop with Strive but last I heard, after he died in Xrd his moveset got inherited by Delilah or something.

Genesys would honestly be a good choice for a series like GG.
    >generic system that can do both magic and tech, and comfortably accommodate both at once
    >narrative focused with agency placed on the PCs
    >combat is relatively simple and never lasts too long
    >supplemental rules that offer ways to build your own special attacks
    >minion rules for mowing down mooks with said special attacks
And if you specifically want to mimic the actual fighting game genre aspect, there are fanmade supplements that try to add in rules to make things feel more like arcade fighters.

        >when you just wanted to jack off about GG's chuuni lore and worldbuilding even though it has nothing to do with /tg/?
As far as /tg/ is concerned, this thread is a lot better then the dozen of shitposts of "What will your party do when encountering X" or the hundreds of useless questions that are spammed here that only exist for attention. And as far as actual world building threads go, its a lot better then "what are elves like in your setting" or nitpicky questions about LOTR or even worse, fricking game of thrones which has nothing to do with /tg/. With GG it at least has an interesting setting and you can easily make a campaign surrounding the crusades.

Just because you're talking about fiction of any kind does not mean it's on-topic for /tg/ just because you vaguely gestured to the idea of maybe, possibly, but not actually, but who can say for sure, that you might be interested in the topic as it relates to TTRPGs.

Even as a guilty gear fan autism-beaming over it, I agree strongly with this. Concrete discussion of running a Guilty Gear game can be on topic for /tg/ but we're not getting there.

We could be talking about FIGHT or SWADE and what optional rules would be appropriate. I only digressed to talk about Zepp because it directly pertains to whether or not a technology/magic system split is necessary (the answer is no; technology is sufficiently similar to magic in setting and could operate under the same rules with only a few optional rules applied).

I like SWADE in concept because a GG game is mostl likely going to be a bounty-hunting plot and things like the playing card initiative rules would add a lot to the gonzo magitek western themes.

    >high technology
    >Guilty Gear

You can be forgiven for not knowing because it's autismal setting information, but high tech is something that Guilty Gear is explicitly not; magic by necessity has replaced all normal computing and electronics.

Fact is you don't need a magic and technology system for a setting where magic has replaced technology. It's the same shit.

And I don't mean to hijack your thread, but as a result of these facts you can and should just run Guilty gear in a sufficiently combat focused universal or supers system. I'd run it in SWADE personally.

Zepp is the exception that proves the rule. tbh I watched all of Xrd and Strive's story mode and read more than my fair share of extra shit and I have no idea why Zepp didn't get spanked by the Universal Will. It could be that it was just such a low priority for it after Dawn of Revival that it could rebuild using now illegal technology without suffering any harm.

Genesys is honestly not that hard to customize and would do well for you especially in the out of combat stuff. Most specials are covered by magic and power can be tied to proficiency dice / number of dice rolled.

The narrative and abstract nature also fits the anime fighter tropes well. Fight! however will give you a far crunchier combat system, the downside is that the system absolutely shits the bed for more RPG aspects - if you aren't fighting you're using the system wrong.

Also Xrd is treated a little harshly considering it really opened up the lore and setting by making it feel populated and alive. Accent, XX, Overture etc made the setting and lore feel a little obtuse and barren, a bit like the way Blaz made the hierarchical city feel empty despite supposedly millions living there.

I do agree though something is off about Strive. Disregarding the butchers cleaver taken to the lore the shift from the ideal/surreal/battlefield locations in other games, to an urban American centric setting, has made it feel off. My biggest fear though is they frick up and push the "a threat even more powerful than justice" angle and some gear we never heard of is the next big threat awakened by some rando badguy upset Asuka turned face.
