KH2FM
just KH1 and KH2
1 and 2 are the only ones worth playing in general
This. Don't even read the rest of the thread.
Why Square still didn't release it on Steam?
I assume epic just paid for the exclusive rights to it. Why the hell else would they not?
Just pirate it though.
Play 1 and 2.
If you like those, then play the rest.
nahh
its all downhill from KH2
DDD was the most painfully boring shit i ever played
couldnt even finish BBS after the 1st playthrough
>If you like those, then stop
FIFY
the numbered ones (3 only for re:mind tbh) and re:coded
The first three of them.
1, COM, 2?
Yes
Not 1, for sure.
I'm playing 1 and it's horrible, specially the camera. I think that Re:CoM is much better.
People forget how brutally boring the combat is for the first four worlds in kh1 before you get actual abilities and spells. By the end its good, but slogging through wonderland doing the same 3-hit combo 500 times is grating
Yeah, specially in proud mode, everything kills you too fast and you basically have no magic. I'd say that the game gets good at about the Hollow Bastion. The camera problem is never fixed though.
1 is amazing ignore tik tok brain zoom zooms
BBS or DDD. Command decks are just so much fun that playing KH 1-3 feels less exciting.
Try using command deck attacks on any of the later bosses and see what happens.
Chain of Memories was pretty fun back in the day.
How would you feel if Square Enix started remaking the old Kingdom Hearts games?
I would probably play them out of curiosity but I know they can't be that good.
Straight remake like the CoM PS2 one or remake that's actually sequel like the FF7R?
Was thinking of improving graphics with streamlined Command Menu gameplay improvements especially to be rid of the handheld gameplay for most of the games but knowing Nomura you know he would make any Kingdom Hearts remake to end up like FF7R.
1, 2, Re:Coded, and 3.
CoM, BBS, and DDD have there moments.
Top tier:
KH2
Pretty good tier:
KH1 after the first half of the game
KH3
KH RE:COM
KH3 you can manually make better by cycling through reaction commands to skip carnival rides and shit
>skip carnival rides and shit
Play on crit and use the ability that removes rides in favor of guaranteed form changes.
1 is clunky as frick by modern standards
2's combat only gets good midway/late in the game when you can actually do something else than just jump and 3 hit combo
BBS is only fun if you care to grind the good commands for yourself and don't be underleveled to the point of dealing no damage
the rest are just worse versions of those
and the card game is just lmao what the frick were they thinking
TL;DR none of them are worth playing for combat alone
CoM and Re:Coded are alright.
>Le 1 is clunky meme
>1 is clunky as frick by modern standards
filtered. it’s weighty. the only game where swinging the keyblade feels like the blunt and heavy weapon it is.
Depends on what you're looking for.
If you just want something that plays "good" with no caveats, you're not going to like any of the games because they all have some weird fricked up issues, it's just that each game's issues are different.
KH1's combat is really nice and weighty and the encounter design is fantastic, but a lot of your combat skills are locked behind a somewhat poorly-designed level tree.
KH2 is really snappy and close in feel to a "character action" game, but most of the encounters are way too fricking easy until the end/postgame and there's a lot of hidden/poorly explained mechanics you really need to know before playing (i.e. Revenge Value)
Chain of Memories is a weird but interesting Beat Em Up. The GBA version is worth trying for the novelty of it, I think, but if you dislike deckbuilding games you probably won't like it.
Days has some pretty good-feeling combat with a well designed equipment system but has some fricking godawful encounter design in the back half— lots of really awful HP sponge enemies that fly around like buttholes.
BBS is neat but it and 3D suffer from really annoying problems with the basic combos where your attacks are all way too slow and high-commitment to be worth playing offensively, leading to a game where you just run around poking enemies until they die.
Re:Coded has some fricking FANTASTIC combat and enemy design but likes to interrupt you every once in a while to make you play a really bad gimmick section.
KH3 is very middle of the road; 3's combat problems are mostly just annoyances like your strongest moves being RNG unless you play on the hardest difficulty and enable the ability that removes a different, lamer mechanic to give you the good moves without RNG. Spacing is also fricked thanks to a resourceless "teleport to enemy" button. The DLC has some good bosses, though.
I'm the type of guy who likes playing weird games to see weird ideas, so I love them all, but YMMV.
Tbh while KH1 may start out rough the Sword path gives you so many of the important combat skills so easily it gets smooth almost out of the box, but it is unfortunate that you have to choose between a more fun early game (Sword) or a statistically stronger playthrough (Staff)
None of them. The combat was never particularly good and the only reason the game sold was because weebs got off to serphiroth and Disney characters in the same game. It was basically the avengers for basement dwelling gaming nerds.
KH games with good combat
>KH1 (kind of janky but good)
>KH:CoM / ReCom if you have a very high IQ
>KH2, especially the postgame
KH games with bad combat
>All of the others - especially the handheld games
>Dorks will try to tell you Re:Coded has good gameplay but don't believe them. It's only decent when compared to the other shit
Don't call me a dork, you gum guzzler.
Re:Coded's combat is objectively good. The only bad parts of it are the dumb gimmick sections where it stops being normal combat.
It's just more command board shit where you shuffle through your best moves over and over, except this time in a meaningless KH1 plot retread (and not even the series' first meaningless KH1 plot retread). What fricking game are you guys playing where it gets deep.
Unironically the best part of Re:Coded was the Olympus world's turn based combat gimmick. Which was still bad obviously but it was more unique than every bit of the rest of the game.
pic related my hot re:coded character (nsfw)
>It's just more command board shit where you shuffle through your best moves over and over
This isn't command deck's problem, moron, and never was. Command Deck's primary issue in BBS/3D is that your basic attacks are so worthless that all you can do is spam Commands. Re:Coded solves the problem by giving Commands longer cooldowns and making basic keyblade attacks far more use, while also having lenient enough Cancel mechanics that Commands are easily weaved into standard combos. Playing Re:Coded by just spamming commands is literally suboptimal compared to using standard combos, commands, and using the Overclock gauge effectively.
Also, the Stat Matrix system porting in TWEWY's difficulty tuning systems is a fricking fantastic idea that should have been brought back and expanded upon instead of the dogshit "hard lock a difficulty at the start of the game" system every other title uses.
Re:Coded
1, 2fm, re:coded and 3rm
>For combat
1,2, Re:Coded (unironically) and 3 Remind.
2fm 3 remind ,recoded.
com (gba) if you're into that, you will either love it or hate it.
I like how Re:coded is starting to actually get recognised for being the best handheld kh in terms of combat alone.
I think even the gimmick sections are great and well paced aside from *maybe* hercules which outstays its welcome just a little.
Honestly, the Space Harrier section and Turn Based section isn't a huge deal. My main problem was the fricking awful-feeling 2D platformer segments.
KH2
BBS
KH1 is rough and sluggish
ReCom is cardshit
Days/Recoded are DS games
DDD is dogshit
KH3 is floaty watch cutscenes to win
>DDD is dogshit
And BBS isn't?
2 and 3
KH1 combat is dogshit
1, 2 and Re:coded, the latter being the only game with an actually good implementation of the command deck system.
2 and 3 only.
