Don't forget Beatdown: Fists of Vengeance and Urban Reign. These three games are the best PS2 street brawlers, and I'm surprised they don't get mentioned in these threads.
What's the difference? I have both and always hear 2 is a straight upgrade except I have 1 friend who likes 1 more but he can't articulate his opinions very well so I have no clue why and I wanna figure out which one to sink time into.

i never played nioh 1 but loved nioh 2. i strongly recommend playing nioh 2 and not worrying about 1
I finished the first one around half a year or so before 2 came out. The beta for 2 was brutal, but when they game actually came out it was way too easy -- or at least too easy compared to the first game. I think they even released a day 1 patch that made the game even easier, because people were b***hing about the difficulty. Don't get me wrong, it's still a fine game, but it's not as challenging and for me therefore not as interesting. This also doesn't have anything to do with quality of life improvements. Those are good, but whenever I came on Ganker to check the threads people were talking about "filters" and I just never encountered any. Stuff like the yokai shift and burst counter trivialize the game to some extent. You also don't have to manage stamina as much as you had to in the beta if I remember correctly.
I think the first one simply felt far more rewarding despite not being as optimized as its sequel.
It's probably for the best if you just get 2 if you're planning to only play one game, though.

Metal Gear Rising is mostly a meme game where it starts out feeling really cool until you figure out the mechanics of the game and most of it becomes a cakewalk. Slicing objects is still really satisfying to this day -- why doesn't more game have this?

fixed camera angles are what make dmc1 hard to get into again. it works for something like re1, but my reflexes have forgotten how to react with the old style jank camera/controls.
i ended up deciding not to play old ps1/2 era games with fixed controls and camera in modern times because i don't want it to frick my reflexes up again to where i can't play modern games intuitively

that's not even it for me. there's several reasons to why i hate touching dmc1
1) i cannot drift at all while jumping to readjust myself. jumping in general feels god awful to me.especially since doing short jumps cause dante to stay in the air just as long as a normal jump.
2) no turbo mode.
playing 3, 4, and 5 with turbo mode makes dmc1 feel even worse. it's quite literally unbearable to deal with due to how slow the game is.
plus why in god's name would I go back to DMC1 when I have DMC3, 4, and 5 to play? >lol too hard gayet

for example whenever you're met with those flaming statues in dmc3 and 4, you are taught how to manipulate the style rank by mixing up your attacks. which is key to getting good style rankings at the end. no other game does this.

bayonetta's weapons share 90% of their movesets and primarily differ in hold properties. the movelist itself is actually fairly redundant for swag purposes
ngb's moves on the other hand are situational utility. almost everything is useful somewhere but in a given encounter you'll only be using a few moves

I admit I don’t care much for the max difficulties in these games
I was able to beat him without doing any juggling and just focusing on simple combos and well timed dodges. And you can shit on him if you just level up beyond him. As is the case with most RPG difficulty. Stupidly hard if you stray into an area with enemies above your level. Then piss easy once you get to high levels.
Does NG even qualify as "stylish action"? You don't really do any flashy moves you just kill enemies efficiently with no over the top shit (asides from izuna drop) which is why i love it so much.

The only thing I can think of for enemies being ruthless in DMC4 is BP floor 95 with Basilisks. Or fighting a bunch of Angelos. I honestly want more stuff like that in DMC.
Frosts and Assaults needs to be more aggressive along with Mephistos and Fausts.
DMC5 enemies barely challenge you in the air. At least DMC4 tries in some way to snipe you when your juggling enemies.
How many hours do you have in dmc games?
I got good at DMC years ago. I'd say around 2017. As of now I just play for the sake of it but if I had to guess I got decent at DMC in roughly 500 hours, DMC5 is also around 500 but spread across multiple characters. I have the least amount of hours in DMC3.
Point being, you can get really good at DMC if you just practice for a bit every day and don't practice bad habits. I've seen many people improve fast over the span of a year.

I've always heard they're downgrades but I don't really know how and nobody's ever explained. Never played any NG game. What actually makes them worse and makes the originals more worth playing? IMO Symphonia and Berseria were terrible as action games. If you're just looking for action games with RPG or anime elements, avoid those. I preferred Scarlet Nexus and Tokyo Xanadu, though those games still suck if you compare them to DMC or Ninja Gaiden.

It has the best character customisation in modern games. You can freely change your character, including gender, at any time you're not in a mission. It also has armour and weapon transmog, and none of this costs real life money.

You can cancel every sword swing animation with analog tilts. The game's actually very responsive.
fixed camera angles are what make dmc1 hard to get into again. it works for something like re1, but my reflexes have forgotten how to react with the old style jank camera/controls.
i ended up deciding not to play old ps1/2 era games with fixed controls and camera in modern times because i don't want it to frick my reflexes up again to where i can't play modern games intuitively
that's not even it for me. there's several reasons to why i hate touching dmc1
1) i cannot drift at all while jumping to readjust myself. jumping in general feels god awful to me.especially since doing short jumps cause dante to stay in the air just as long as a normal jump.
2) no turbo mode.
playing 3, 4, and 5 with turbo mode makes dmc1 feel even worse. it's quite literally unbearable to deal with due to how slow the game is.
plus why in god's name would I go back to DMC1 when I have DMC3, 4, and 5 to play?

I was able to beat him without doing any juggling and just focusing on simple combos and well timed dodges. And you can shit on him if you just level up beyond him. As is the case with most RPG difficulty. Stupidly hard if you stray into an area with enemies above your level. Then piss easy once you get to high levels.
Does NG even qualify as "stylish action"? You don't really do any flashy moves you just kill enemies efficiently with no over the top shit (asides from izuna drop) which is why i love it so much.

The only thing I can think of for enemies being ruthless in DMC4 is BP floor 95 with Basilisks. Or fighting a bunch of Angelos. I honestly want more stuff like that in DMC.

DMC5 enemies barely challenge you in the air. At least DMC4 tries in some way to snipe you when your juggling enemies.
I got good at DMC years ago. I'd say around 2017. As of now I just play for the sake of it but if I had to guess I got decent at DMC in roughly 500 hours, DMC5 is also around 500 but spread across multiple characters. I have the least amount of hours in DMC3.
Point being, you can get really good at DMC if you just practice for a bit every day and don't practice bad habits. I've seen many people improve fast over the span of a year.
If anyone is proud of being good at DMC, they need to stop playing DMC. I play because it's fun.

2 is a lot more expansive and deep, but it still retains the difficulty and complexity.
I'll give it a try. Honestly one of the things I'm more interested in is the character customization.
It has the best character customisation in modern games. You can freely change your character, including gender, at any time you're not in a mission. It also has armour and weapon transmog, and none of this costs real life money.
Of course you'd have to be a really fricking scummy company to charge real money for something like a character customisation change, thank god a company like that doesn't exist.
Ninja Gaiden 2 is the only good action game ever made. Bayonetta gameplay is great but way too cringeworthy.
