Unity is a better AC game as far as the narrative and lore is concerned.
Syndicate is forgettable and their attempt at making a more lighthearted protagonist(s).

Syndicate was a yearly cash grab where Unity has a multiplayer, tons of side missions, customization, and a WAAAAY better story
Syndicate because it has a better combat and stealth. Character doesn't feel like floating on water while in combat too. Also way way faster start. Only real downgrade is in parkour but parkour has been nothing but a downgrade since AC1.

Anything after the original AC is honestly dogshit, but Unity had a worse PC port and has you play as a Frenchman so it's infitely worse.
Everyone knows the series peaked with Ezio and completely destroyed interest in the story with 3's ending.

Revelations' writer said that by the end of the story every main character would realize the exact extent of what they could accomplish with their life. It's why Altaïr's "the end of an era" speech/memory motivate Ezio to leave behind the Assassins and finally live for himself; it's why early on Clay asks Desmond if he could hop into his body to try and live on but why the end he realizes he isn't the MC and his role is simply to give himself up to save Desmond from deletion. Really makes you think when the highest highs in the series come from the past and present mixing, huh? It's almost like the modern day was supposed to be important and not just an excuse for the HUD to have Animus elements. Hell remember when up to AC3 every game started with a recap of previous events? Legacy used to matter once upon a time.

unity also has a mediocre story but they managed to remove most of the annoying bugs that plagued the release. I didn't suffer any when I got around to playing it two years ago.
