i dont see why people still care what place Gamefreak uses when you already know it's gonna be another boring box with every biome dragged and dropped into it.
The biggest changes will be how people say hello to you, a gym leader or two being themed around the country, and a dozen or so themed pokemon.

France has swamps but it's not a definite feature of France
The snowy part was also shit while the french alps/swiss is known for its beautiful scenery and they wasted several routes with bland, generic patches of grass instead of using that space for southern France, la province, la plage, stuff that France is known for.
Illumis city is well done but that's about it.
The fact route 1 is a literal lazy one-way road full of NOTHING should have told me it was going to be trash but I had to wait for the desert to finally realize it
France has plenty of swamps, pretty much every country has marshland. I agree the desert is egregious though.
region design rly dipped right as they left Japan, it went from being based on specific provinces to encompassing an entire country into a region.
Unova was based on... New York? But also kind of whatever fantasy settings they wanted to inject in at the same time? Not sure where Chargestone Cave, Desert Resort, or Celestial Tower fit in New York but okay.
Kalos definitely feels more like France although it also has some equally egregious locations like the Lumiose Badlands, Laverre Swamp, & Mamoswine Road being a brief walk away from eachother.
Alola actually feels pretty cohesive since the island structure let them get away with all the biomes a bit more tactfully, but Galar & Paldea are just spread way too thin imo and with a clear "biome checklist" in mind.

Canada would be cool. Take advantage of snow making ice types better. We also don't have a moose pokemon yet.
everything notable in Canada is along a big straight line, it wouldn't make for a compelling region. then again, the bar isn't very high.

Obviously, back to Japan.
Bottom right looks like a dragon hemi attatched to a nut and would have more male dragon mons and the female trainers would be lusting after the dragon mons so much that it would become a major problem for the humans birthrate. More dragon tamer trainers exist in this region than in other regions, even tourists find it strange and question the dragon tamer trainer's origins. So definitely not a good choice.
