Does they have a national dex? I can't play romhacks if they don't have at least the penultimate gen's Pokemon. Also, it goes without saying PokeMMO has little niggles that are there to waste your time and buy microtransactions or whatever it is instead of facilitate a real mmorpg economy.
Also, Radical Red is the best Pokemon game out today. I like how they added an easy mode. I didn't need it to beat it, but it can be a little c**ty on the difficulties at time. The modder was also kind of spergy with messages in the beginning that are no longer there saying "Lol just git gud and beat it."
If they had combat animations that werent bugged I'd agree. If Nintendo copied Temtem and made a Pokemon Destiny 2 style light "MMO" they would break the internet and overtake the market by themselves. Literally all they have to do is copy temtem, take out the troony shit and use Pokemon instead and they will make the best game of all time.
Objectively gen 4. Either Platinum or the Johto remakes pick your poison.
Gen 2 was an incredible game for the time though and the single biggest leap between generations
Currently on my first playthrough of Pokemon. I was told the Platinum version would be a nice jumping off point. Just got my first gym badge and now I'm headed back to Jubilife city, I guess. I'm not hating this game.
>First playthrough of Pokémon
Just to make things less painful, catch a Bidoof (and evolve it later on to Bibarel) for an "HM Slave" that can learn every HM except for Fly and Defog (because it doesn't have wings). Unless you go to the Move Deleter npc (who's found fairly late in the game), you can't delete HMs from Pokémon, and it's better to give weak moves like Cut and Rock Smash to Bidoof rather than your regular party members. Surf and Fly are good moves however, and are also the 2 HMs you'll be using the most. What starter did you pick, btw?
Pokémon has never been super impressive graphically but it still looked good, gen 5 looks bad, especially it's in game animations and overworld characters.
If you like ANY of those in "Bad" your taste is pure fetid shit. There is no saving you.

They don't. Pokemon has dramatically changed its design philosophy since the first 3 gens. The only baby-mon in Gen 4 that matches the design philosophy of its evolutions is Happiny, and it's also ugly as sin.

Budew, Mime jr and Mantyke all take some design liberties but the connection is obvious even at first glance.

Munchlax looks closer to Minun than it does to Snorlax. Bonsly has the same color scheme and fake grass orbs as Sudowoodo, but the other design elements are not there. Chingling doesn't even vaguely look like Chimecho.

>no fossils before post game >no daycare before post game >no fishing rod before post game >audino on every route and gifted free lucky egg >forced tutorials for medals, catching, pokestar studios, and pwt
BW2 are shit
>no fossils before post game
That hardly matters since fossils are all shit with the sole exception of Aerodactyl (also post game every gen except for 1 and 2), Tyrantrum, and Dracovish/Dracozolt. They're also not really a unique category you need on your team, they're just weak Rock types. There's no demerit to shunting them to the post game. >no daycare before post game
It's a bit of a shame, but there's no real need to breed before postgame. >no fishing rod before post game
Same as with fossils, it just puts mediocre Water types in the postgame. You can still surf and find rustling patches in the water that give you access to the best Water types available. >audino on every route and gifted free lucky egg
Audino are 100% optional encounters that are helpful if you want to bring low leveled new teammates up to speed. They're a helpful QoL feature that you choose to interact with. Audinos are one of the best features in mainline Pokemon games. My only gripe is that Audino doesn't evolve and doesn't have good stats. >forced tutorials for medals, catching, pokestar studios, and pwt
Forced tutorials are annoying, but every Pokemon game has them. The medal tutorials are short and sweet, catching tutorials are in every Pokemon game since Gen 1, and PWT isn't a tutorial as much as it's a story segment. The Pokestar Studios tutorial was absolutely egregious, however, and is the one stain on the game.
>I-IT DOESNT MATTER >I-IT DOESN’T MATTER >I-IT DOESN’T MATTER >B-BUT OTHER GAME HAS IT JUST IGNORE HOW ALMOST EVERY OTHER ONE ISN’T AS OBNOXIOUS ABOUT IT

How did you know? Was it really that common to not have/use Flash in the cave? I spend god knows how long staring at the screen trying to see anything at all.
i grew up on gold/silver. was starting to grow out of it by the time ruby/sapphire came out, i only played them a little bit but never finished them. i think if i went to play a pokemon game today it might be sapphire but i'm also curious about black/white since it sounds like there's a lot of pokemon in those
B/W is decent but B/W:2 is superior in every way.
while the game takes place years later in the same region, B/W:2 has much more post-game content and is not limited to only gen 5 pokemon, like B/W.
Okay I gotta ask, does every Pokemon game have a low variety throughout the game or is Shining Pearl just especially bad? I got most of the badges and I'm still encountering Geodudes, Bidoofs, Ponytas, and Machops. I even skipped the Safari Zone in this game because I used the binoculars upstairs and it just showed Bidoofs. And when I gained access to that underground I was excited to find new mons there, and again it's just the same 4 Pokemon! I got surf and found a hidden little factory just to learn there's no new Pokemon there either.
>I would play black or white
I wouldn't. Black and White have the most uninspired designs out of the entire franchise, on top of that they're just visually disgusting to look at.
Okay. I've got White 2 so I'll check that out soon.
>mfw I use surf and Bidoof shows up
Also I heard that in og Diamond and Pearl your secret hideouts were like actual homes you could decorate, is that true? In SP it's just clearing where you put statues that don't seem to do anything.
dp have really bad pokemon distribution. platinum added more mons through gifts and grass encounters, but they shoved them all in the underground in the "remakes"
also certain crossgen evos are straight up unavailable in bdsp until the post game when they were available in platinum. like you can catch gligar in the underground, but the razor claw isn't available until after the elite 4 lol. platinum has a razor claw available before the 4th gym
>Rowan was Oak's teacher, they made OAK inferior to someone else, they would never do that today >lesser cared about Kantos like Tentacool get more prominence
I still like the bottom better.
I was so excited for Diamond as a kid and I loved everything about it, I don’t give a damn about “mon distribution” or slowness, the gen 4 games are stuffed with so much detail from the return of the day/night cycle to the Underground and the GTS, all the overworld music has day/night variations, it really was one of the last times GF gave a shit about what they were making.
The original D/P had a really awful selection, on top of adding shit like Geodude and Zubat that people had already seen many times. The underground Pokemon change depending on what type of room you visit, and you can get some that aren't even on the regional dex, but there are also some that don't show up until you get specific HMs for some reason, and most of the selection only shows up after the league.
It's a sad state of affairs that Pokemon Showdown has objectively been the best way to play Pokemon since 2013. The games used to be good. THEY USED TO BE GOOD
Nah, Gens 3 - 5 are still worth playing/replaying. Pokemon Showdown can't copy the adventure, only the post game competitive battling. It just so happens that the post game competitive battling is the best, and sometimes only good, part of recent Pokemon games.
They are objectively not worth replaying. The pokemon games have always been glorified tutorials for the real game, battling other people. I have played one of every gen's game, and all of them are basically the same.

Maybe Gen 1 in hindsight, but Gen 2 comp battling is pure dogshit. 100 turn games are considered short, Snorlax is on every team, Pokemon rely on hitting 70% accurate Thunders multiple times in a row to make progress, and offense teams are too risky to get anywhere with them.

150 turns of Snorlax + Zapdos/Raikou + Cloyster + 3 tech 'mons is not better than the main game, even with how bad Gen 2 is.
There was a slim chance of anyone agreeing with you, except there's also a 99% chance you're a smogon homosexual who doesn't even play the real game and use an artificial simulator with faked mon going by made up rules someone else said you should.
>Gens 3 - 5 are still worth playing/replaying
Yeah I love mashing A through the same shitty linear hallways and tutorials while doing nothing else but sweeping piss easy NPCs this is so replayable and fun!!
For me, it’s probably Platinum or Emerald (with latter patched to have the phys/special split for attacks), B/W2 in close second tier. HG/SS is also great, but the same level pacing issues that the original G/S had drag it down a bit so it doesn’t quite hit the top 3.
Started the series with Red, but I have no problems admitting that Gen 1 is just simply eclipsed on all fronts except nostalgia, and G/S are obsoleted by HG/SS.
Yeah, but it's a post-game item... you have to play the whole game first... if you had the ability to switch to the retro style game from the beginning, I'd love HG/SS even more
I started with Pokemon Crystal. Lost interest in the series after Emerald. Replayed Gens 1-6 a few years ago. Gen 5, Black and White were the best and the series went downhill with Black and White 2 as the series reverted to coming up with new forms for gen 1s instead of giving each region distinct identities. Genwunners are a cancer.
>gen 5 used to be hated on launch for introducing awful mechanics that are still hated to this day >unovabortions zoomers who grew up playing it are now saying it's the best shit ever
such is the cycle of pokeshit
Following Pokemon was exclusive to HG/SS. The Battle Frontier was something Game Freak added into 3rd versions to get them to sell (HG/SS's Battle Frontier was copied and pasted from Platinum). Bike gears were a pointless mechanic that were only useful in 2 areas (Gen 3 Safari Zone, Gen 4 Gible Cave). Gen 5 still had mythical events - see: Victini

You are assuming intent with that "for completely banal reasons" statement. The reason could very well have been it didn't fit in with the rest of the game or the dev time was better spent elsewhere.
>A mario game without puzzle plank galaxy is fine. A mario game without levels isn't
3D Mario games other than SM3DL/SM3DW already didn't have levels. Galaxy 1 and 2 did to an extent, but they're more of a weird midway point between the prior 2 3D Marios and the subsequent 2 3D Marios.

Considering they don't keep devlogs, we can only speculate. But considering all of the exclusive features in B/W/B2/W2, you have your pick of the litter. Seasons, Dreamworld, Pokemon World Tournament, Triple Battles, Rotation Battles, Difficulty Selections, Funfest Missions, Entralink, Medals, and on and on.
>Oh and look now it's a moronic semantic argument about what is and isn't a level. Brilliant, this is exactly what I wanted.
It's not a semantic argument. The way you brought up levels it could've only possibly meant one thing.

So nothing. Literally fricking nothing. Not a single thing.
Not one of those features is anything like being able to walk around with your pokemon nor does it introduce any kind of incompatibility.
Incredible. >The way you brought up levels it could've only possibly meant one thing.
It obviously meant the core gameplay of the series you autistic moron, not a completely fricking meaningless conversation about how gameplay was divided. I don't give a shit if it's levels, stars or moons but it was clearly the fricking packets of gameplay I was talking about rather than some excessively granualar conversation about how games are structured.

>So nothing. Literally fricking nothing. Not a single thing.
There's loads of things that you can continue to autistically deny. >Not one of those features is anything like being able to walk around with your pokemon nor does it introduce any kind of incompatibility.
Following Pokemon take quite a bit of dev time because of the assets that needed to be generated. You'd need overworld sprites for every single Pokemon, and even assuming you copied and pasted the 493 from HG/SS, Gen 5 introduced 155 new Pokemon meaning at minimum they'd need 500 new sprites (front, back, side sprites for all of the new Pokemon + alt forms like the Therians, Keldeo, Sawsbuck, and etc). It's not that it conflicted with other elements of the game but that it would've taken dev time away from other areas that needed the artists' attention.
>It obviously meant the core gameplay of the series you autistic moron, not a completely fricking meaningless conversation about how gameplay was divided.
So you're saying you completely failed at conveying what you meant to say? That's a personal problem. You can't just bring up levels and redefine it to mean gameplay. Levels are a game design division for how to parse your game's content.

>REEEEEE have a semantic argument with me about what a level is!
no
No one cares about those "mechanics" other than the Battle Frontier. B2/W2 had a bunch of battle facilities spread throughout the game. Some go even more in depth, like with Pokestar studios.
Gen 5 didn't remove anything either. Gen 6 removed the EXP Share and replaced it with the EXP All, however. It also removed the difficulty.
>removed ribbon collecting >removed secret bases >removed contests >removed berry farming >removed different fishing rods >removed pokeradar >removed battle frontier >all but the last one were brought back in gen 6 because gen 6 had to waste time cleaning up gen 5's mess
>It also removed the difficulty.
gen 5 didn't have any difficulty to remove. Almost all the games that released after gen 5 are harder than gen 5.
Those aren't mechanics. The Special split is a mechanic. The Physical/Special split is a mechanic. Abilities are a mechanic. Weather, terrain, and modifiers like tailwind, trick room, wonder room, and so on are mechanics.
>removed ribbon collecting
A pointless feature no one cared about disappearing or returning. >removed secret bases
Exclusive to the Gen 3 games and their terrible remakes. >removed contests
Gen 5 had contests. >removed berry farming
Gen 5 had berry farming (the pots) >removed different fishing rods
That's just a QoL feature removing useless bloat >removed pokeradar
So did most Pokemon games >removed battle frontier
Gen 5 had more different battle facilities than Gens 6 - 9 combined.

Name one
Objectively, gen 5. But Gen 3 has my favorite aesthetic and designs. Despite how much I love emeral I also never ended up touching the battle frontier so I guess I’m a fake fan.
Sun and Moon is also a personal favorite of mine, despite “growing out” of pokemon soon after I really enjoyed the new dex and the weird plot it had going on
I hate to play devil's advocate for that guy, but I'm pretty sure the newer Pokemon games abstain from gendered language during the intro of the game and just ask the player "what do you look like?" while presenting them a boy and a girl.
>I'm pretty sure the newer Pokemon games abstain from gendered language during the intro of the game and just ask the player "what do you look like?" while presenting them a boy and a girl.
I don't recall that being the case though there's little difference between the boy or girl models. They do use male or female pronouns throughout the game when referring to you.
My sister and a bunch of you people insist that gen V is godlike, but I've bounced right off of it three times now and probably won't try it again. Idk what exactly my beef was with it, etiher.
double battle are unironically easier than 1 on 1, you just need to focus on one pokemon and if you have shit like helping hand and fake out you can win 95% of the battles without even needing to think or teambuild. My issue with gamecube games isn't the double battles, it's everything else
You can just tell those votes from Gen 5 are all from seething nu-gen gays who get mad that people say Gen 5 is the last good generation. People stopped whining about genwunners around that time and started whining about Gen 5 gays.

MagDrag only worked as a strategy because of 2 things:
1. Latios and Kyurem Black, two Ubers-tier Pokemon, were let back into OU
2. Weather Wars were heavily limited with bans and restrictions
Even in modern Gen 5 OU they're considering banning Volcarona and Cloyster before banning DragMag since Dragon spam isn't as overpowered as the memes would lead you to believe.

I liked what i've played of bw2 because it has a really robust selection of mons early on. it genuinely fixes most of the issues of bw1.
Emerald was the one I played as a kid so I like it a lot. even the fart trumpets are ingrained in my memory. despite spending many hours playing crystal as well, i have very little memory of it.
if i ever go back to the pokemon series, i'll probably play either platinum or hgss.
https://github.com/Rangi42/polishedcrystal
Polished Crystal is so much better than any other pokemon game that it has ruined other pokemon rom hacks for me in general. Not to mention the fact that its just objectively the best pokemon experience.
For me Pokemon peaked at emerald, it's my fav pokegame
I don't like anything came after this especially 3d gen are all dogshit
And I don't think Pokemon will ever get better again
S/V, and I was fairly sure of this by the end of DLC 1. And I say this as someone who hasn't been impressed with the series since Gen 6, least of all 8. Lots of fun battles, lots of variety in 'mons, best characters in the series. The game's ugly as shit, I'm still dying for a single skirt or something, and it still doesn't have a battle frontier, but it's the first Pokémon game that I wanted to immediately replay after finishing. Nuzlocked both times, actually got my whole team swept by Clavell on the run that wasn't blind.
Previously it was Platinum, followed by Black 2 for me.

Everyone says AI will be soulless and it might, but if you can give 5 people this kind of creation power, I could see Indy games becoming absolutely next level.
If WW3 doesn't start soon, we will unironically have AI movies people can just type up a prompt and it'll run. Like "Lord of the Rings but it's modern day people fighting the foreign invaders." Then I think a decade or two after that we'll straight up have AI made games.
You dumbass AI would never be able to create something like that without having a previous reference made by a human, the idea of high detail pixel art in Pokemon's old low fidelity color palette didn't exist until a couple of guys invented it
Yes, so it be neat if 5 dudes could do it to revive old series. With the success of BotW Majoras Mask is dead, I’d love a AI driven Indy to fill that gap.
Also you have no idea on what the limits of AI are, given enough time buddies right

>I KNOW WHAT THE FRICK IM TALKING ABOUT >ALL I DO IS POST HERE
There's a strong case for several different entries.
Crystal is the most "definitive" any version of Pokemon got, in context. It purely built upon the games it was a sequel to, and GS purely built upon the gen 1 games in turn. It's expansive, it has potent atmosphere even in spite of the hardware, it's generally great fun.
HG/SS, Platinum, and BW2 all vie for top spot as well: Platinum is an exemplary fix to a slightly troubled generation, HG/SS are probably the best remakes, and all three have a good case for being "the definitive Pokemon game"- Platinum by virtue of being the last singular game to be "definitive", as well as codifying the Battle Frontier as more than a one-off thing, HG/SS by virtue of being UTTERLY FRICKING MASSIVE and being based on the original gen that, in context, is possibly the biggest and best in the series, and BW2 by virtue of being an obvious "series celebration" style game what with its 400-mon Pokedex and the World Tournament, while also falling before most major mechanical and design shakeups that would go on to more firmly divide the old Pokemon games from the new ones. Like the steady loss of anything even considered a "dungeon", the phasing-out of your own party being the thing that ungates the world for you, the emphasis on easier shiny hunting and breeding, the shift as the world goes from "mythologized representation of something we know personally" (gens 1-4) through limbo (gen 5) into "tourist-tier surface level impression of some wacky foreign country" (gens 6+)...
1 and 9 are small "platforming" dungeons that have literally no puzzles
2 and 8 are in the same dungeon, which is alright
3, 4 and 5 are pretty good dungeons
6 is not a dungeon, it's just a random cave
7 is the Battle Pyramid, a procedurally generated dungeon
So out of the 9 pictures, only 4 are considered "true" dungeons, and Mt. Coronet alone is already bigger than all of them combined
>and Mt. Coronet alone is already bigger than all of them combined
and it also happens to be the worst and most poorly designed "dungeon" in the entire series. Go figure.
Nah, it was very well designed, and felt like a Metroidvania area, where you progress further each time you revisit the area, which may be simple but was unprecedented for a Pokémon game
Also, it is one of the few times in Pokémon where an area was designed with long time fans of the franchise in mind. In fact, kids getting lost in Mt. Coronet was exactly why GF dumbed down on dungeon designs starting from gen 5
Emerald, Platinum, HGSS or B2W2 are the only correct options. They are leagues above all the other titles, and most of the time the favourite one amongst these is based on personal preference (aka which one you played as a child)
Choosing any other game as the best is bullshit
Platinum is bad because the the map design is shit, the encounter design is shit, the difficulty is shit, the writing is shit, and the performance is shit.
BW2 is bad because it effectively has no gameplay except brainlessly mashing A through hallways and tutorials until you reach the postgame where you can finally play the battle facilities that are just objectively worse than the games before and after it.

>Nah, it was very well designed
What part of it is well designed? It has no puzzles, it has piss poor encounter variety despite being padded out to 8 floors, and it's completely linear because at any given point in the game there's only one relevant path through and the rest are arbitrarily blocked.
>Map design
Sinnoh is really well designed. First you go through most of West Sinnoh, then you explore East Sinnoh, then go back to West Sinnoh to find new areas you couldn't explore before, and then you do the same in East Sinnoh. It's the perfect blend of linear progression and backtracking
Route designs are on par with Hoenn, and so are the dungeons.
>Encounter design
Its shit in DP, but Platinum completely improves it. Pretty much every route gets a new encounter option. Also, it may have a somewhat small dex, but most of the Pokémon (especially the ones introduced in Platinum) have good usage.
>Difficulty
It has the best difficulty out of any Pokémon game. The gym leaders, elite four, champion and evil team admins and boss all have well built teams with good movepools. Cynthia is the most remembered
>Writing
Agree, but that's a problem with every Pokémon game
>Performance
Agreed as well, though you can just play it on an emulator
>What part of it is well designed?
The puzzle of Mt. Coronet is the navigation itself, figuring out where you need to go next. There's only one relevant path each time, but the challenge is exactly to find said path. You can get really lost while climbing it, especially in the second snow area
I like Platinum more than Emerald and BW2. Emerald has a nice region but it's gameplay feels more like a chore, you only have Gabby and Ty for decent grinding. Platinum has the vs seeker, obtaining multiple lucky eggs is surprisingly easy, and its move tutor isn't postgame. BW2 is mediocre without challenge mode, and even then I had more difficult encounters in Emerald and Platinum.
Whichever one you say it is, it isn't.
Then every game except HGSS and BW2 are the best.
Pokemmo
We have a winrar here tonight folks!
>gated level caps
No
>t. level 70 starter and 5 level <10 pokemon by the end
came to say that, all though frick the admins/mods in pokemmo.
>NOOOOOOO I COULDN'T CALL SOMEONE A homosexual
>AGHHHHHH HELP I'M BEING OPPRESSED!!!1!
try again, dicklips
>MMO anything
>best
I only played Fire Red, so I guess that one.
This one https://store.steampowered.com/app/1623730
Objectively gen 4. Either Platinum or the Johto remakes pick your poison.
Gen 2 was an incredible game for the time though and the single biggest leap between generations
Objectively Gen 5, actually. B2/W2 > Platinum > B/W > Emerald > HG/SS
Pokemon after gen 4 just look bad
Pokemon has always been mediocre graphically. Gen 5 is probably the best looking generation.
Currently on my first playthrough of Pokemon. I was told the Platinum version would be a nice jumping off point. Just got my first gym badge and now I'm headed back to Jubilife city, I guess. I'm not hating this game.
>I was told the Platinum version would be a nice jumping off point
should've started with frlg, but platinum's great
>First playthrough of Pokémon
Gen 4 Pokemon also look like dogshit.
Offense anon but your taste is dogshit
The ones you call bad are generally the best in the game outside of like ambipom and Lickilicky
If you like ANY of those in "Bad" your taste is pure fetid shit. There is no saving you.
>NOOOO you can't like the cute child variants of Pokémon which design match their evolutions NOOOOOOO
Child Pokemon are all terrible wastes of space that never needed to exist.
>Designs match their evolutions
They don't. Pokemon has dramatically changed its design philosophy since the first 3 gens. The only baby-mon in Gen 4 that matches the design philosophy of its evolutions is Happiny, and it's also ugly as sin.
Munchlax looks exactly like snorlax you fricking moron, as do bonsly and chimeoco
Budew, Mime jr and Mantyke all take some design liberties but the connection is obvious even at first glance.
You just have shit taste.
Munchlax looks closer to Minun than it does to Snorlax. Bonsly has the same color scheme and fake grass orbs as Sudowoodo, but the other design elements are not there. Chingling doesn't even vaguely look like Chimecho.
It takes a special type of moron to defend baby Pokemon
>Munchlax looks closer to Minun than it does to Snorlax.
Shit bait, 0/10.
Take your baby pokemon autism somewhere else
>lickilicky
>bad
I'd throw Gallade on the good section but otherwise 100% agree'd
>shitmega on good
>kinozone and peakavile on mediocre
DO NOT use Dungeon Meshi to shitpost with terrible opinions.
Move Rhyperior, Togekiss, Magnezone, and Probopass to Bad and this is perfect.
There is literally nothing wrong with baby pokemon. Rhyperior, Magmorta, and Ambipom are the only ones I don't like
>Baby Chansey
Huh...I really don't remember this creature existing.
idk anon, they all get my dick rock hard
>Shitting on Magnezone and Probopass
EXTREMELY cringe.
Swap Magnezone and Dusknoir
Weavile goes into Good
Togekiss rides the line between good and mediocre
Otherwise this list is mostly fine
>no fossils before post game
>no daycare before post game
>no fishing rod before post game
>audino on every route and gifted free lucky egg
>forced tutorials for medals, catching, pokestar studios, and pwt
B2/W2 > Platinum
B2/W2 > HG/SS
B2/W2 > X/Y
B2/W2 are peak Pokemon
>I-IT DOESNT MATTER
>I-IT DOESN’T MATTER
>I-IT DOESN’T MATTER
>B-BUT OTHER GAME HAS IT JUST IGNORE HOW ALMOST EVERY OTHER ONE ISN’T AS OBNOXIOUS ABOUT IT
wow truly the sign of a great game
>Pokemon __ takes too long to launch the game and the volume is slightly too loud on max volume
>It doesn't matter
>WOW TRULY THE SIGN OF A GREAT GAME
I played Blue for about 5 years in the 90s and never felt the need to play another one
took you that long to make it through dark cave, huh? should have played with sound on
How did you know? Was it really that common to not have/use Flash in the cave? I spend god knows how long staring at the screen trying to see anything at all.
Palworld
Emerald is my favorite. My gf loves Crystal and SoulSilver.
Pokemon games are shit for 5 years olds
HGSS
literally two pokemon games into one, this one was made with love.
i grew up on gold/silver. was starting to grow out of it by the time ruby/sapphire came out, i only played them a little bit but never finished them. i think if i went to play a pokemon game today it might be sapphire but i'm also curious about black/white since it sounds like there's a lot of pokemon in those
B/W is decent but B/W:2 is superior in every way.
while the game takes place years later in the same region, B/W:2 has much more post-game content and is not limited to only gen 5 pokemon, like B/W.
still, you could just play both
Okay I gotta ask, does every Pokemon game have a low variety throughout the game or is Shining Pearl just especially bad? I got most of the badges and I'm still encountering Geodudes, Bidoofs, Ponytas, and Machops. I even skipped the Safari Zone in this game because I used the binoculars upstairs and it just showed Bidoofs. And when I gained access to that underground I was excited to find new mons there, and again it's just the same 4 Pokemon! I got surf and found a hidden little factory just to learn there's no new Pokemon there either.
diamond and pearl are known for bad pokemon selection before the postgame. they fixed it in platinum but I would play black or white
BW also has shit pokemon selection and most of the designs are fricking disgusting.
Pretty much the only pokemon games at all with good variety to pick from is XY
dp have really bad pokemon distribution. platinum added more mons through gifts and grass encounters, but they shoved them all in the underground in the "remakes"
also certain crossgen evos are straight up unavailable in bdsp until the post game when they were available in platinum. like you can catch gligar in the underground, but the razor claw isn't available until after the elite 4 lol. platinum has a razor claw available before the 4th gym
every sinnoh game is like that, it’s one of the biggest problems with the game. Despite this you’ll still find morons who think DPPt is good.
DPPt is good because i want to sex Cynthia and Dawn
>Rowan was Oak's teacher, they made OAK inferior to someone else, they would never do that today
>lesser cared about Kantos like Tentacool get more prominence
>Palworld is the new Pokemon killer gaiz!!!!!!
It's not a monster collecting game.
they are all shit
Your favorite one
Real answer: they're all shit
best run: gen 2
best post ending: gen 3
best battle system: gen 5
anything after has gone from bad to shit.
>best post ending: gen 3
Terrible opinion
>Unovagay
Of course.
only played the first one
it was great for its time
Crystal and B1/W1 are the best.
This one. Name one good reason to play literally any other Pokemon game. Romhacks included.
I like to catch Pokes
It's a sad state of affairs that Pokemon Showdown has objectively been the best way to play Pokemon since 2013. The games used to be good. THEY USED TO BE GOOD
I'm including past gens. Playing Showdown (or Shoddy Battle or Netbattle) has always been the only good way to play Pokemon.
>The pokemon games have always been glorified tutorials for the real game, battling other people
Autism
It's the same as the single player modes in fighting games.
So "the game" for 90+% of players then?
Yes. 90% of players are obsessively replaying tutorials.
>heh, what sort of baby doesn't spend hours of their time looking at frame data and exploiting the same 3 top tier characters only to still lose 50% of the time to jank bullshit. Fricking casuals
Competitive battling was always a side consideration until Generation 6 when Game Freak started doing sweeping nerfs/buffs and changing mechanics for competitive play. ADV OU being so balanced was a freak accident that is unique to exclusively that generation.
Even in Gen 1 and 2, competitive battling was always more engaging than playing the single player game.
And it STILL is better than the single player.
150 turns of Snorlax + Zapdos/Raikou + Cloyster + 3 tech 'mons is not better than the main game, even with how bad Gen 2 is.
black and white have good visuals, environments, music, and story
"Wow, this tutorial is really well made, I'm gonna play this over and over again"
There was a slim chance of anyone agreeing with you, except there's also a 99% chance you're a smogon homosexual who doesn't even play the real game and use an artificial simulator with faked mon going by made up rules someone else said you should.
>future newport
>Gens 3 - 5 are still worth playing/replaying
Yeah I love mashing A through the same shitty linear hallways and tutorials while doing nothing else but sweeping piss easy NPCs this is so replayable and fun!!
Pokemon Insurgence
>hard but not gay (most of the time)
>delta pokemon and new mega evolutions
>quality of life updates
>long ass game and postgame
The one I grew up with
For me, it’s probably Platinum or Emerald (with latter patched to have the phys/special split for attacks), B/W2 in close second tier.
For me it's Platinum, BW1/2, and PLA
>pokmon
don't you gays have like 5 pokemon boards already
People are way too sweaty and meta focused in /trash/ and /cm/
Silver
Emerald
Gold/Silver/Crystal for the Sovl and the music alone
Heartgold for the side content and shit you can do, they botched the music imo
>they botched the music imo
In the postgame you can get an item which replaces the music with the gen 2 music iirc
Yeah, but it's a post-game item... you have to play the whole game first... if you had the ability to switch to the retro style game from the beginning, I'd love HG/SS even more
Retro style music* not game
yes but it's not the actual music, just the closest they could make
some shit about the soundchips being different
They're all the same
Palworld is probably the best one that Gamefreak did so far. I am glad they have solved the pop in issues and low res textures.
XY
Clover is the only one with engaging gameplay that doesn't shoot itself in the foot by being too easy or too hard
>gen 5 used to be hated on launch for introducing awful mechanics that are still hated to this day
>unovabortions zoomers who grew up playing it are now saying it's the best shit ever
such is the cycle of pokeshit
Gen V didn't introduce any mechanics.
I'm not a zoomer though, It had some really good music and a great meta during pokemon showdown/pokemon online
Take your meds.
Gen 5 didn't introduce anything, it was just a refinement of Gen 4's mechanics. Gen 5 was the B2/W2 to Gen 4's B/W
> Gen 5 didn't introduce anything,
While also removing tons of shit, most of which Gen 6 had to reintroduce, yes
Gen 5 didn't remove anything either. Gen 6 removed the EXP Share and replaced it with the EXP All, however. It also removed the difficulty.
Gen V didn't remove anything, what are you talking about?
following pokemon, battle frontier, acro/mach bike, safari zone, and mythical events?
Not mechanics. You might as well say that Gen V "removed" Palette Town or the train in Goldenrod City.
Gen 5 still had mythical events - see: Victini
>doesn't count because it was only in the prior game
>doesn't count because it was added to make them sell
moron
You're talking about game specific features. You might as well say Super Mario 3D World was shit because it removed Puzzle Plank Galaxy.
If the game removes features for completely banal reasons which don't conflict with any other feature you get as a substitute then yes it's shit that they removed them.
A mario game without puzzle plank galaxy is fine. A mario game without levels isn't
>The reason could very well have been it didn't fit in with the rest of the game or the dev time was better spent elsewhere.
So what did we get in return that is in any way a more suitable use of dev time (for work that had already been done)?
Oh and look now it's a moronic semantic argument about what is and isn't a level. Brilliant, this is exactly what I wanted.
>So what did we get in return that is in any way a more suitable use of dev time (for work that had already been done)?
Considering they don't keep devlogs, we can only speculate. But considering all of the exclusive features in B/W/B2/W2, you have your pick of the litter. Seasons, Dreamworld, Pokemon World Tournament, Triple Battles, Rotation Battles, Difficulty Selections, Funfest Missions, Entralink, Medals, and on and on.
>Oh and look now it's a moronic semantic argument about what is and isn't a level. Brilliant, this is exactly what I wanted.
It's not a semantic argument. The way you brought up levels it could've only possibly meant one thing.
>Considering they don't keep devlogs, we can only speculate
>There's loads of things that you can continue to autistically deny.
>Woah dude... imagine like.. double battles... but like... 3 of them
>Pokemon take quite a bit of dev time because of the assets that needed to be generated
They were already made for HG/SS. They first tried it with dpp with amity square but they weren't able to get it done in time, so they pushed it back
>Gen 5 introduced 155 new Pokemon meaning at minimum they'd need 500 new sprites
Which is fricking nothing and I have 0 sympathy
>REEEEEE have a semantic argument with me about what a level is!
no
No one cares about those "mechanics" other than the Battle Frontier. B2/W2 had a bunch of battle facilities spread throughout the game. Some go even more in depth, like with Pokestar studios.
>removed ribbon collecting
>removed secret bases
>removed contests
>removed berry farming
>removed different fishing rods
>removed pokeradar
>removed battle frontier
>all but the last one were brought back in gen 6 because gen 6 had to waste time cleaning up gen 5's mess
>It also removed the difficulty.
gen 5 didn't have any difficulty to remove. Almost all the games that released after gen 5 are harder than gen 5.
also removed the useful bottom screen in gen 4 which had autorunning which gen 5 pointlessly removed
Gen 5 had berry farming (the pots)
>removed different fishing rods
That's just a QoL feature removing useless bloat
>removed pokeradar
So did most Pokemon games
>removed battle frontier
Gen 5 had more different battle facilities than Gens 6 - 9 combined.
>N-NO ONE CARED ABOUT IT
>Gen 5 had [thing it blatantly doesn't have]
>B-BUT OTHER GAME ALSO DIDN'T HAVE IT
Stop trying to hide your shitty game behind coattail riding much better ones, Unovagay.
Musicals are just contests by another name.
>A pointless feature no one cared about disappearing or returning.
Bullshit, pushing up ribbon masters is literally peak pokemon.
>Exclusive to the Gen 3 games and their terrible remakes.
Wrong, every gen since GSC has some sort of room decoration.
>Gen 5 had contests.
Musicals are fricking dogshit and even worse than the DPPT contests.
>That's just a QoL feature removing useless bloat
No it isn't, locking the fishing rod until the postgame is literally the most asinine thing they could have done and makes shitnova routes feel even more soulless and lifeless than they already are.
t. Gen Alpha gay who grew up with Sword and Shield
Gen Alpha started either in 2012 or 2014. There's no way they're posting on Ganker yet
Yeah... because we all waited until we hit 18 to post on Ganker.
>gen 5 used to be hated on launch
/vp/ literally exists because Ganker wouldn't shut up about how good gen 5 was
>for introducing awful mechanics that are still hated to this day
Name one
they always pretend that they started with gen 1 as if its not obvious as frick they are gen 5 babies
Coral
Coral Island?
Objectively, gen 5. But Gen 3 has my favorite aesthetic and designs. Despite how much I love emeral I also never ended up touching the battle frontier so I guess I’m a fake fan.
Sun and Moon is also a personal favorite of mine, despite “growing out” of pokemon soon after I really enjoyed the new dex and the weird plot it had going on
Palworld lol
The monster designs in Palworld are even worse than modern Pokemon. Way better than Temtem or Yokai Watch, but still a farcry from real Pokemon.
It's woke. It's shit.
so just like pokemon?
Pokemon doesn't have Type 1/Type 2 gender selection
I hate to play devil's advocate for that guy, but I'm pretty sure the newer Pokemon games abstain from gendered language during the intro of the game and just ask the player "what do you look like?" while presenting them a boy and a girl.
>I'm pretty sure the newer Pokemon games abstain from gendered language during the intro of the game and just ask the player "what do you look like?" while presenting them a boy and a girl.
I don't recall that being the case though there's little difference between the boy or girl models. They do use male or female pronouns throughout the game when referring to you.
I haven't played all of the games, but here's my opinion
FRLG > HGSS > DPP > GSC > RBY (ft. G) > XY >>>> SM + USUM, yuck, awful
oh man, I forgot to but RSE in there uh. I'd put it between DPP and GSC
based nidoking chad. I like the gen 1 remakes quite a bit but i prefer gen 3 overall
Clover obviously
Whatever one you played as a kid
I was 16 when B2/W2 came out and it's my favorite.
16 year olds are kids
Out of 10!
"Kids" generally refers to people between the ages of 2 and 13. Any younger and they're a baby, and older and they're a teen/young adult.
My sister and a bunch of you people insist that gen V is godlike, but I've bounced right off of it three times now and probably won't try it again. Idk what exactly my beef was with it, etiher.
It's Gen 2 and it's not really close
Not putting gen 1/2 games since they are so old it feels kind of unfair to compare them with the rest
>brainlet can't into double battles
ell oh ell
double battle are unironically easier than 1 on 1, you just need to focus on one pokemon and if you have shit like helping hand and fake out you can win 95% of the battles without even needing to think or teambuild. My issue with gamecube games isn't the double battles, it's everything else
Silver/Gold. It just is.
You can just tell those votes from Gen 5 are all from seething nu-gen gays who get mad that people say Gen 5 is the last good generation. People stopped whining about genwunners around that time and started whining about Gen 5 gays.
> You can just tell those votes from Gen 5 are all from seething nu-gen gays who get mad that people say Gen 5 is the last good generation
or it’s just people who realized gen 5 is low quality lol
>gen 1 isn't the worst
oldgays can die
5 > 4 > 3 > 2 > 1 > 7 > 6 > 8 > 9
4>3>2>1 and none of the rest are worth playing
1=2 the rest arent worth playing since they're rehashes of 1 with shittier designs
1 is not greater than 7 dummy
Everything after Gen 5 is so shit that they're worse than Gen 1 even considering how barebones R/G/B/Y were.
>I can't 2 Mag 4 Drag? The game is shit!
MagDrag also worked in Gen IV.
And in Gens 6+ since Steel also hits Fairy for SE damage. It's not like DragMag was unbeatable. Magnezone couldn't trap Excadrill or Heatran.
while true, that is not what i meant
>JOHTO wins both polls
based
can't wait for legends celebi to come take the crown for best pokemon game a third time
Ask /vp/ and then look for the one that doesn't get mentioned at all by them. There is no way that can backfire!
Sun and moon because of the cute girls
Currently in the middle of Fire Red. Butterfree fricks half the game with sleep powder & dream eater.
PokeMMO, specifically.
>Aqua Tail Chomp
>not DD TTar
>Suicune
>offensive Blissey
>Pain Split Chandelure
The frick are you on?
Believe it or not, I can squeeze a win with that moronic team in ranked PvP.
If I wanted to go full competitive autism then it wouldn't be fun, this shit is also gen 5 so weather autism and stallshitters are everywhere.
There's a difference between going full autism and choosing to use PAIN SPLIT on CHANDELURE.
The team is for fun, not for competitive, do you see a gliscor with poison heal there? Maybe a bullet punch scizor with swords dance? like, frick, why would I run Blissey over eviolite
Chansey if it isn't to frick around?
Is called having fun.
Nu-gen games suck shit
Reddit moment
how's it reddit?
HG/SS
B/W
Emerald
Platinum because the original mon lineup is the best (if you throw trade-evo in the garbage bin where the mechanic belongs).
Black 1 and 2 because they were the only games where GF actually tried.
> Black 1 and 2 because they were the only games where GF actually tried
bait
>they removed a bunch of good features people liked but they replaced it with…day/night but more pointless, a dogshit shitty flash game that died after a few years because they couldn’t actually finish putting content into the actual game, ribbons but objectively worse, and difficulty modes that don’t even work, and battle facilities with all depth traded for mindless nostalgia pandering, so that totally makes up for it!
blue>silver>crystal
Im 25yo all of them suck
Im trans btw.
Typical poketroony
I'm 27 and Pokemon was good up until Gen 6.
I’m 30 and Pokemon was dogshit in Gen 5.
Best romhacks I can play on my phone/emulators?
pokemon girls hunter 1-3(and the halloween version)
elite redux
noon
alteRed
I don't play on phone but I've been playing Radical Red. Kinda bloated with features and very frigging hard, but I don't regret the time spent on it.
Viva las Vega, the only playable version of that hack
I hate the color for the grass in gen 3 and 5
Anything before Gen 5
RSE ran like butter. I don't know why FRLG felt jankier.
The running shoes.
Why is there like one autist always replying to anyone that says that they like gen 5? Is this a new /vp/ schizo?
>new
He's been here since like 2019.
>why can’t I mindlessly lie and say my shit game is good?
Yeah it's just one guy that hates a notoriously bad entry
yeah , you can instantly tell it's him because he always has multiple "debunked" images and copypastas ready to spam whenever someone says "what did they remove?" . Also he samegays alot of replies , if a mod turns on colored IP codes he'll probably be 30% of the replies here
Mods should honestly just delete /vp/ at this point , there's nothing but autists and schizos there.
Gen 2 fills me with uncontrollable nostalgia.
Pokemon peaked here
I liked what i've played of bw2 because it has a really robust selection of mons early on. it genuinely fixes most of the issues of bw1.
Emerald was the one I played as a kid so I like it a lot. even the fart trumpets are ingrained in my memory. despite spending many hours playing crystal as well, i have very little memory of it.
if i ever go back to the pokemon series, i'll probably play either platinum or hgss.
But the real answer is pokemon reborn,
https://github.com/Rangi42/polishedcrystal
Polished Crystal is so much better than any other pokemon game that it has ruined other pokemon rom hacks for me in general. Not to mention the fact that its just objectively the best pokemon experience.
>qol up the ass but no changes to any of the stupid mechanics that plague every single pokemon game
every single time
For me Pokemon peaked at emerald, it's my fav pokegame
I don't like anything came after this especially 3d gen are all dogshit
And I don't think Pokemon will ever get better again
My personal favorites are FRLG, Emerald and BW2
If I haven’t played since Silver, how bad are the new ones?
Is there some limits I can place on myself to make them hard and fun.
>to make them hard and fun
Making things hard and fun is a woman's job, homosexual.
Soul Silver
Red and Blue of course.
Gold and Silver were not bad either.
No need to play anything after 2nd gen, though. Nothing more than trash.
Silver/Gold (GEN II) is pretty much how i invision peal pokemon to be.
2 looks the best
that screenshot is moronic and isn't how the games look naturally
hgss for soul
bw2 for content
emerald for nostalgia and kino
You could have had this but you wanted 3d.
You wanted it so bad that you shit out the worst games ever made.
I hate you all for thinking what you did was progress.
You raped pokemon.
You fricking raped me.
That looks really comfy but it's just pixelart. In 10 more years 3D pokemon games are going to look way better than that.
3d pokemon games will never, I repeat neverlook as good or better than that
Taps the sign
that looks like shit
Violet looks better
>You fricking raped me.
yes I did
>You could have had this
no because game freak has historically proven themselves to be terrible at 2D and their first full 3D game already completely BTFO all their 2D ones.
I press button I get pokegirls what's more to think about sirs?
You dumbass AI would never be able to create something like that without having a previous reference made by a human, the idea of high detail pixel art in Pokemon's old low fidelity color palette didn't exist until a couple of guys invented it
Yes, so it be neat if 5 dudes could do it to revive old series. With the success of BotW Majoras Mask is dead, I’d love a AI driven Indy to fill that gap.
Also you have no idea on what the limits of AI are, given enough time buddies right
>Also you have no idea on what the limits of AI are, given enough time
The limits of AI are human creative limits, and creative humans are usually the ones already making shit by hand instead of prompting
You could be right, but I doubt it. What is is not what will be. Time will tell.
Where does a threadripper fall on that curve?
Rape u long time love from India
Gen 5 but I really can't be bothered to argue about it or explain why so if anyone disagrees, you're wrong but I don't give a shit.
>>>/vp/
Gen 3.
>i actually really love the visual and technical progression of the 2d pokemon games
palworld must be really good seeing as there are over 20 pokemon threads in the catalog right now
Where? /vp/? Because it certainly isn't Ganker.
janny already killed them
Uh huh.
https://arch.b4k.co/v/search/text/pokemon/start/2024-01-19/
there are over 1000 posts just from today that mention it, this is excluding all the threads and posts that just talk about the game
This is artificial as frick
>posts mentioning pokemon when a pseudo pokemon game drops
that's not a thousand threads, those are post mentioning pokemon you fricking spazoid.
there are on an average 500-800 posts a day mentioning pokemon
today we have already doubled those numbers are we aren't even near peak hours
I KNOW WHAT THE FRICK IM TALKING ABOUT
ALL I DO IS POST HERE
someone forgot to take their meds today
>> there are over 20 pokemon threads in the catalog right now
it's just post mentions, which are the same! Ignore the fact the game is being played by ecelebs everywhere while this game has been memed about for 2 years now
you're a fricking moron.
>I KNOW WHAT THE FRICK IM TALKING ABOUT
>ALL I DO IS POST HERE
Gen4 was pretty good and I say this as an OG gen ONE chad. But everybody knows Pokémon peaked at gen2.
https://litter.catbox.moe/wuw02s.png
Palworld
>He didn't like the Gamecube ones
I spot some homosexual wiener suckers ITT, explain yourself.
I respect my own time too much. The GC battle games are so fricking slow.
And they take about 3 hours a part to beat. If it's purely animations, I think Pokemon fans are spoiled in terms of how JRPGs go.
Like the steady loss of anything even considered a "dungeon", the phasing-out of your own party being the thing that ungates the world for you, the emphasis on easier shiny hunting and breeding, the shift as the world goes from "mythologized representation of something we know personally" (gens 1-4) through limbo (gen 5) into "tourist-tier surface level impression of some wacky foreign country" (gens 6+)...
all this text and literally none of it explains how gen 4 or 5 is actually good, amazing
counterpoint:
I like using MY POKEMON to navigate dungeons.
I like it when the game allows me to get a lot of value out of singleplayer.
Coronet was exactly why GF dumbed down on dungeon designs starting from gen 5
kids must be getting moronic
i was able to get through dark caves without flash my memorization alone
You sound informed, which game is the best? I haven’t played since Silver. Looking to jump in, handicap myself so it’s kind of hard.
Platinum and Emerald are the best, with HGSS right behind
what are some good romhacks? vanilla is too easy but all of the drayano hacks and other things ive tried are packed to the gills with smogon autism
Palworld
bump
so how is gamefreak paying you guys? i'm getting 10 salted peanuts per post, can't complain
They promised me a vaporeon fleshlight.
BW1 had the best story by far
It's not like there's a lot of competition
Mario Galaxy, for instance, has the best story out of the super mario games but that doesn't say much
Pokechads will never lose to fakemons.
yes
>Note none of the 'best pokemon games' itt araen't made within the last 10 years.
,02 pokedolars was deposted in your account
Emerald, Platinum, HGSS or B2W2 are the only correct options. They are leagues above all the other titles, and most of the time the favourite one amongst these is based on personal preference (aka which one you played as a child)
Choosing any other game as the best is bullshit
im not reading that
come on dude summarize this hsit
Platinum is bad because the the map design is shit, the encounter design is shit, the difficulty is shit, the writing is shit, and the performance is shit.
BW2 is bad because it effectively has no gameplay except brainlessly mashing A through hallways and tutorials until you reach the postgame where you can finally play the battle facilities that are just objectively worse than the games before and after it.
>Nah, it was very well designed
What part of it is well designed? It has no puzzles, it has piss poor encounter variety despite being padded out to 8 floors, and it's completely linear because at any given point in the game there's only one relevant path through and the rest are arbitrarily blocked.
thats still to much text for me to read
The posts in the image already refutes all your points.
i am also in the party of not reading that shit homieaaaaa
the only reason Platinum in that list is only because Diamond and Pearl were so shit, anything was an improvement
Emerald, HGSS, or BW2
Gen 4 had the best gameplay, Gen 3 had the best pokemon, gyms, starters, areas, and was the most comfy.
>Platinum>HG/SS>Emerald>(Crystal)>Everything else
So far, I'm enjoying their latest release palworld.
i hate you so much rn
sims 4 with pokemon and sex mods
