Star Ocean and Valkyrie Elysium are going to be budget titles that have too much jank for reviewers to give them a high score.
While Forspoken looks like shit with its terrible writing, empty open world, and tech demo like qualities it has enough of a budget and shiny pretty enough graphics and brown people for journalists to feel incentivized to give it an above average score.
Forspoken being 70$ should make it deserve much heavier scrutiny nut journalists are not going to care about that.

Nothing about the open world looks particularly engaging. That there's only ONE fricking populated town absolutely killed my interest in it.
It looks more engaging and full of stuff than elden ring and the fact you move so fast in the environment and have all this verticality already counters your claim
games only "feel" empty because you move slow as frick in them, games where you move fast as shit do not feel empty because you cover so much more ground in a fraction of the time
like imagine spidermans open world but you aren't spiderman but just a regular dude who can only walk run and jump like a regular person, despite being identical worldwise that would feel inherently emptier than it does by moving so fast in the environment as spiderman

It didn't sell amazingly but not terribly either and it was pretty well received around here by people that actually played it. It's a good game in my opinion.
