What's her name Ganker?
Hardmode: No FoTM such as ER, BG3, Starfield, Cyberpunk etc
For me it is Dead By Daylight, I just fundamentally believe horror games cannot be scary if the "monster" is controlled by another person, pic related was basically the face I made when something """scary""" happened.

I like horror when it makes you think and when it explores the reality of horror as a sort of self-concept and turns it into some kind of terrifying physical presence. Things like Detention and Silent Hill that deep dive into not just things that are outwardly scary but the terror of what people are capable of.

Modern WoW on a non-RP realm.

Modern WoW has become an antisocial game over the years. The only excuse to interact with other players is if you're on a roleplay server.

I don't understand why people who are playing a singleplayer MMO. You play MMO because there's other people, and the majority is not going to force themselves to interact unless there's some sort of gameplay reason to do it.

In my games I'm going to strong arm the players into roleplaying and interacting. I do not trust players to make the game fun for themselves.

      Anonymous

Given the possibility, players will optimize the fun out of the game. I remember planetside 1 had repeated periods of downtime, whether waiting for the bases to flip sides, or taking a transport to a new front. In planetside 2 they just streamlined those processes. The obvious result is there was a lot less interaction between players.

Of course these days you probably can't let players do entirely nothing while they wait, look at how DRG made their lobby into a real place with all sorts of things to jiggle around for no gainful reason. It's a place for waiting, but you don't exactly get bored.

This used to be recommended like a decade ago. Mediocre Metroidvania that doesn't feel particularly great to play, all the various marines you can encounter are only really just extra lives with different palettes and dialogue at given moments. There's some jarring cuts that take you elsewhere after killing key bosses as well, even the damage sponge of a final boss cuts to the credits with no real fanfare. Think it mostly gets given a pass because WayForward.

    >Borderlands 2 past TVHM
Exponential gear scaling that makes your gear outdated the instant you level up while enemies scale to your level with bullet sponge HP that requires you to abuse a broken as frick element even harder, all also in a significantly narrated game that becomes even more repetitive for each playthrough all seems antithetical to the concept of a looter shooter. Sure you've always got a reason to replace your gear with better shit, but if even if you do find the good shit it's generally only relevant for so long. Not even Krieg can save this kusoge himself.

        Anonymous

City of Tears is where it really clicked for me as well. At that point you're past the more tutorial portion of the game and your exploration can branch off into several different directions, enemies generally get more difficult, more upgrades become available, and it's the point where the story takes off.

I agree early game is rough to get into though, and I think that's why you see this huge disparity of posts between people claiming HK is shit and those praising it like the second coming. I'm not in either camp, but I do think it's a great game and I think people complaining about exploration just didn't give the game enough time to open up.

It's like that for gameplay. Behind the back third person is terrible for party based game, it's why KOTOR and Dragon Age are so limited compared to older titles. You can only keep track of so much when your camera is stuck behind a character instead of up in the air overlooking the battlefield. You can change the camera in Dragon Age on PC, but it's still designed to be beatable on an Xbox 360, so it's a dumbed down experience either way.

          Anonymous

The verticality is fun for sure, but it's a shame that the exploration is extremely unrewarding. You explore some hidden nook and cranny, and what do you get? Most of the time it's something useless like a balloon item or a sugar to give you a temporary buff, or maybe even a pouch of gold.
Sadly, the satisfying feeling of discovery like finding the axe prosthetic at Hirata Estate very early on in the game is very rare.

            Anonymous

Most of the time you explore a high path so that you can sneak attack an enemy. this isn't some open world game, you're not supposed to be "rewarded" for every single step you take off the obvious path with some trinket. Just having a new approach to the next section of the level is reward enough in a more traditional action game.

Mario in general. I have no idea why anyone above the age of 10 would play these games full of non-characters and an oversaturated aesthetic designed for literal kids. The gameplay? I doubt it's ever good enough to tolerate the rest.
Same with SSB to an extent, but there I can see the appeal at least -- crossover garbage for autists and casual party gameplay for normalgays. That's 95% of its audience covered.

      Anonymous

As far as Mario goes, the gameplay is actually the reason people above the age of 10 play Mario. Most of the games have solid platforming mechanics that are easy to learn and hard to master and as the titles go on, the level designs get more and more complicated to accomodate and reward those who are good with the platforming mechanics. Like, kids can still easily play and beat the game, but for adults there are decent challenges if you're willing to dig into them. I'm not saying they're the best games or even the hardest platformers, but I've played enough to understand why people adore them.

Unfortunately, you can blame Amnesia and Outlast for this, which is a bit unfair since Amnesia is a legit great game (and I think Outlast is too, but that's a controversial take on this site). The problem was that Twitch and Let's Players popularized that game with shitty over the top, "scared," reactions to shit happening in the game and developers saw this trend and thought all they had to do to make popular horror games was make a walking simulator with jump scares. Now, we have this current market of garbage.

I'm hoping the combination of Alan Wake 2, Alone in the Dark/Silent Hill 2 Remake can right the ship a bit and make companies realize there's a wide variety of good horror templates out there, but I don't have much hope for that.

Troubleshooter. I love tactics rpgs, I love build autism and customization. I don't even mind generic anime stories. I really should like this game but the first few hours are just so boring and linear that I couldn't get into it. I appreciate that they tried to have some kind of gimmick in every stage but none of the gimmicks thus far were fun at all, they were mostly just annoying or irrelevant.
It also takes way too long to get a second unit. Temporarily getting dudes in missions isn't fun.
