I always thought HL1 would make a good Metroidvania, exploring all Black Mesa facilities, and merging all 4 campaign maps. Thoughts?
Half life is the exact opposite of a metroidvania. It’s the game that set the standard for soulless cinematic on rails corridor shooters and forever killed exploration in the fps genre that doom had set the standard for before. Imagine how much better the genre would be today if half life had never been created and maze/puzzle based level design was allowed to evolve instead.
black mesa was horrendous liquid dog shit. the only thing it had going for it was MUH GRAFIXXX and by the time that turd came out, even those were already severely outdated.
literally EVERYTHING else was a downgrade compared to the original with the biggest offender being the lobotomised bullet sponge HL2 enemy "AI"
The valve ecosystem is in retrograde, has been for years.
If you enter the valvesphere you don't leave it. You just find more and more pathetic ways to continue existing in the valvesphere.
The option to leave is never presented it would appear.
I like the idea of HL2 being ported to goldsrc with as many workarounds as possible for the physics. It would require some carmack level bullshit to pull off but it would be really interesting and max comfy to play that setting with those graphics.
This is like people trying to remake Morrowind in Oblivion and then Skyrim. Put that time and energy into making something fricking original for a change.
