They are two very different games. Just because they both involve star fighters doesn't mean they are the same. They were both my two most played games on the N64 but if I could only pick one it would be starfox.
As much as I love Rogue Squadron. It would have been better if it was on rails like Starfox 64. The psuedo open world was a let down, in nearly every mission it was aim at some crap on the ground and spam blasters and then pulling up before you hit the ground, rinse. repeat. Because of the free roaming you always spend some part of the mission searching for the last TIE fighter squad flying around in the fog. The action in Starfox always feels much more dense and satisfying. You dont miss anything because you're always in the middle of it. Not that there is anything to miss in Rogue Squadron with AT-ATs walking in place and TIEs flying in circles. Also, the crew interactions in Starfox are kinda what I was hoping for in Rogue Squadron.
This is why I preferred the naboo game, I think you'd prefer it too. Much more linear and "flat" on fighter missions, and then there's tank, hovercraft and most importantly the best mission the speeder in the windows xp hills
StarFox was a homage to Star Wars and other sci-fi media before the prequel trilogy was made. Watch the space battles in original Star Wars and you'll understand.
Very different games, its apples to oranges. A rail-shooter vs a third person flight shooter. I would compare Rouge Squadron to other Air combat games and Starfox to the first two Panzer Dragoons. There are parts of Starfox Assault that are a bit like Rogue Squadron.
I think the Panzer Dragoons or at least Panzer Dragoon Zwei might be a little higher quality while it lasts, but Starfox makes up for it with way more stages and content. Its a rivaly that shouldn’t have faded honestly, but I think rail shooters just fell out of style.
RS was good because of the ship variety and freedom of the open areas (the all range mode sections in starfox were my least favorite parts). starfox is good as an arcade rail shooter. really just depends on which i'm in the mood for, but RS definitely "felt" more like you were a pilot if that's what you meant
Tough one, StarFox 64 definately has the better action and flow but there is something about Rogue Squadron that makes me like it more. I just like the added freedom and variety that it gives gives (and the star wars licence really is the cherry on top)
>Panzer Dragoon
I only played the remake I bought for pennies due to huge discount, but man is that game short (and easy)
Was the original also like that? Feels like a rip off for the little content you get from a full prices game.
Replaying it, all the enemies just follow a simple repeat path. Their AI is basically non existent. And missions last like 4 minutes. You can beat the entire game in about 40 minutes.
I'm kinda sad replaying it cus it felt like a huge game as a kid where I'd be chased around by tie fighters 🙁
I don't really like Star Wars. In fact, I might even use the word "cringe" unironically. But Rogue Leader? Frick me, now that's a good video game. When the first mission and the last mission have the same objective you know someone wanted to bookend everything with a bang.
PDII is on par with the best of its kind, although I think SF64 is better in gameplay, Zwei is still pretty well designed and fleshed out.
PD1 eh not so much, only the first level manages to leave an impression. Still awesome game for 1995 it's just not as good as Zwei, which improves everything.
SF64 was awesome at the time, they should of kept the lylat voiceovers for the US release though. Rogue Leader on the GC blew them both out of the water
Both are really great. I loved Star Fox 64 as a kid, but never played Rogue Squadron. I played Rogue Squadron just recently and really liked it. It's a shame I didn't play it when I was younger because I know it would be one of my favorite games of all time.
I don't really think they play similarly at all. Regardless, Starfox 64.
RS is no good after new variant titles came out.

Both are god-tier but Rogue Squadron has significantly more replay value
Are there any Rogue Squadron modders making new missions?

Play Rogue Leader on Ace mode and do not use anything that has Itano (guided cluster) missiles.

>But what about muh Panzer Dragoon.
No one asked you.
Seethe more, tendie
Just trying to save people time by letting them know the best one.

this is going to get you a reply with an anime girl image

>Who did it better?
This is what Assault should have been, except with the better arwing controls
IGIVEUP
