Feels like a mixed bag. The simplicity of the original two was better with the direction of the games trying to grow with the audience until gen 6 happened and something got fricked with the series direction.
Gen 6 was a massive botch job and you can tell Gamefreak was rushing shit out the door from how quick the game goes from its slow pace from Gyms 1 to 3 to the rest of the game. A shame too, because that generation almost potentially had something going for it if Gamefreak just had more time to cook with it. Expand the shit they teased, gave flying pokemon landed animations so they were never consistently fricked by sky battles for multiple fricking generations, and post game content. But as it is, BW2 is truly the swan song of the old generations as far as sheer content goes. You can tell this was the last time the old guard that were working on the sprite art would get to do there thing before they croaked.
