They are not friends, and Zach is nothing more than a plot device, which is why Cloud can't larp him perfectly and fills in a lot of it himself. Doesn't change the fact that Zach talks to him about Aerith while he's dragging him to Midgar, which is why Cloud takes an interest in her, but starts chasing after Tifa after he regains his memories and literally fricks her under the highwind.

I noticed this, SE also isnt really subtle, they only put the optional aerith scenes in credits. As a way to show how they are the intended ones.

It's not about a term used in text.
The more you get away from Midgar and the closer you get to the City of the Ancients, the more Aeris starts acting like a "mother" (i.e. supervisor, group leader) and the less she acts silly with Cloud.
There's nothing in the game stating she's the love interest more than Tifa is, except Tifa gets the "prize" because Aeris simply dies and Cloud isn't haunted by a force ghost like he is in Advent and other stuff.
Absolutely nothing in the game points either side as definitive, at best we had a love triangle going on with an abrupt and forced resolution because of Sephiroth. The choices were made for them.

The point is the more the story progresses, the less the acts silly and girly with Cloud and the party for that matter, the last point being the (optional) Golden Saucer date. And even during the date she mentions she want's to know his "real you", at this point both her and Tifa knew he was full of shit and larping.
Things get way more serious after that, then she dies.
But the problem is we see every fricking woman in this game thirsting for Cloud's dick, even Yuffie. But his reaction is for the most part tepid to every one of them.
Only two exceptions is when Aeris dies and he snaps at Sephiroth and that scene with Tifa under the Highwind, whatever it's implied to have happened.

Tifa is Cloud's natural love-interest. Aerith is Zack's girl and she alludes to that fact even during their date sequence but acknowledges she can't be with him amd is content with Cloud taking his place if that's how it has to be.
Tifa is obviously Cloud's love interest. Both the original and the remake make this fair obvious, with her being his childhood friend, the one he promised to protect, the one who fixed his mind and the one who took him in and gave him a job while he was stumbling around while being poisoned, not to mention all the small interactions where Cloud briefly stops being autistic and shows that he cares for her. That being said, Aerith is still a better character than Tifa and she also looks better than Tifa in the Remakes.
Because she's needy and pushy towards him just like Johnny is towards her.
And don't think twice, she'd go right back to Johnny if things with Cloud didn't work out, it'd be up to him to accept being a rebound or not.

I really wonder if the reason why they made tifa even kiss cloud at gs is because of that. The kiss is also kinda erased after it happens, and the aerith date is the only who gets 2-3 different callbacks later in the story.

Yes. But you need to know that if you're feeding both sides for 2/3 of a trilogy at this point you cant abandon everything at the end. Even more if you have whole affection systems that basically erase most of the romantic interactions you'll have with the other side.

That line can sound confusing but for me it is just a coy way of revealing it, the fact the game had 2 scenes where they make marlene tell zack that aerith has feelings for cloud is the way to tell you that. Because what would be the purpose to have those 2 scenes if 10 min later they want to tell you that she doesnt like him? you see. At this point they could've just cut them.

The game can never honestly answer that question, but we all know the likely answer that makes the most sense on a narrative level is Tifa. Tifa is the driving force for Cloud going back to Midgar, staying with avalanche, and her "death" was also some sort of traumatic event that affects him during rebirth. The first emotional conflict of rebirth is initiated by Tifa and stays important during the rest of the game.
Let's be honest here. What importance does Aerith have here? She wants to bang Cloud because he looks like her ex? She likes him for reason? The dude took her flower and gave it to Tifa. Where Cloud decided to help Tifa on his own, Aerith had to basically harass him and force him into her life against his will. Even in rebirth, she basically forces you on a date in the opening. The only way Cloud x Aerith works in the reboot is if the player, (You), decide to engage with her despite all of this.

The game can never honestly answer that question, but we all know the likely answer that makes the most sense on a narrative level is Tifa. Tifa is the driving force for Cloud going back to Midgar, staying with avalanche, and her "death" was also some sort of traumatic event that affects him during rebirth. The first emotional conflict of rebirth is initiated by Tifa and stays important during the rest of the game.
Let's be honest here. What importance does Aerith have here? She wants to bang Cloud because he looks like her ex? She likes him for reason? The dude took her flower and gave it to Tifa. Where Cloud decided to help Tifa on his own, Aerith had to basically harass him and force him into her life against his will. Even in rebirth, she basically forces you on a date in the opening. The only way Cloud x Aerith works in the reboot is if the player, (You), decide to engage with her despite all of this.
