Who else is just shamelessly cheating in singleplayer games now.

Who else is just shamelessly cheating in singleplayer games now.

I got bored of starfield, so I gave my character every perk I wanted to the max level, and 2 million credits to spend freely on ships, and infinite carry weight so I didn't have to think about what I picked up
And Now I'm having fun. Now I don't think.

Before that, I played Baldur's Gate 3 and on my second playthrough I gave my character "hero mode" which is basically god mode but not completely. Now I pass every skill check, and 1 shot enemies.

I don't think I can go back. The power fantasy is too addicting. This is so much better.

What am I missing from starfields combat. It's just fricking jank ass fallout. It's neither satisfying or challenging. The only part that's fun is running around with a shotgun.
As for Baldur's Gate I've already played the game once and just want to experiences anything I've missed. As much as the combat is fun it's kind of time consuming and I'd rather just rush through it.

imagine playing doom and having to worry about your level and exp, the rating of your weapon, 100s of collectibles, crafting, your character build,, etc, etc
modern gaming is all fluff to hide that we havent progressed an inch since the basic gameplay of point gun and shoot baddies
unless a new mechanic can improve on that basic gameplay loop, i dont mind cheating to get rid of it

        this is shit, I agree

now, a doom with deep RPG mechanics that have an impact on the gameplay, your interactions with the world and all the different game systems, how you move, what weapons you can use, skills, etc. (I'm not talking about roleplaying as in reading a book in between boring combats and having sex with npcs) would be pretty cool, I think

are the perks even good in starfield to warrant cheating them in? in fallout 4 i hit level 80 something and had so many points to spend but all of the skills were such unimaginative trash i left a lot of points unspent.

      Anonymous

That's exactly why I gave myself the perks. Leveling is fricking stupidly time consuming and you basically only level up through combat, so that fact that 90% of the perks have nothing to do with combat is moronic.

Anyway I just wanted to date my curiosity, now I know that gun customization is somehow even worse than fricking fallout 4. Space suit customization is LITERALLY nothing. And space ship customization is just an arbitrary barrier for no reason.

That's ignoring the fact that you need to level up a perk 4 times through 4 levels, then go to a research station and dump random rare resources in large quantities all so you can discover that it was all so you could add a fancy wooden chair to your outpost.

Starfield was designed by making a baby between EA, and Ubisoft. It's fricking evil, stupid, annoying time consuming piece of shit.

Cheating in singleplayer is just experiencing the game a different way. Anyone who says it's immoral or anything similar is just flat-out wrong.

      This.
Playing PS2-era Grand Theft Auto with cheat codes (the "definitive" cheat code experience of the 2000s) is a fundamentally different game that you're playing for a different reason. Even when I was a teenager playing like that, eventually I'd get bored enough to want to experience it the "intended" way anyway. It's brilliant design when the devs make a game that is equally enjoyable both legit and cheating.

The only time I would ever cheat in a video game is to make it harder like GTA3's riot cheats or spawning huge waves of enemies in Dark Souls. I will admit that I got pretty close to using cheat engine to give me infinite orbs in Rance 6 though

Everyone can agree that dark souls gameplay is fair and feel rewarding. Bethesda gameplay does not and trying to play fair just reminds you of how limited it all is.
Playing on easy is the only way I can stomach the game. At no point is the gameplay remarkable.

I was the exact opposite many-many years ago. I shamelessly cheated in singleplayer games like adding money, godmode, zero cooldowns for abilities, overpowered dev items, etc. It was indeed fun.
Nowadays however I play games for the challenge/immersion. I never cheat unless I'm stuck in something (ie Skyrim, Fallout) or the game has some sort of similar bug that locks my progression on accident and not by design.

I love playing Kenshi for example. Older me would have game the main character max stats and infinite money for the power fantasy. These days I always try to limit myself to keep the character underpowered for some time because I love the story of becoming strong/wealthy over time. The essential "hero's journey" is much more appealing to me and the end results of being strong becomes much better if it isn't granted immediately.

      >I was the exact opposite many-many years ago.
Same. I cheated a lot. Even when I was a kid. There was a NES game Double Dragon III: if you press many buttons simultaneously you can warp levels. I also "beat" Full Throttle and Grim Fandango with a walkthrough. I grew out of it eventually, cheating wasn't very fun. I use cheats occasionally, but only for practical things like unstucking characters in Skyrim.

Nah but I'm getting through school with the help of chatgpt -senpai.

I often cheat in singplayer games if they have some moronic grindwall for content, i'll just speed up the game twice with cheat engine. I'd do this for PoE. Couldnt go back from playing at x1,5 speed in grimdawn and chronicon.

Monster hunter dos gates important village progression behind multiple rare drops from a single monster, as well as needing the same thing, again several times over, for every piece of its equipment.

In order to advance the story and craft three pieces of gear, I had to hunt it around 200+ times. I lost count.

I savestated that shit with the emulator on 10x speed. This is peak jap insect design, completely baffling and inexcusable abuse. I would have hated it back in 2006 and I hate it now. Ain't no way I'm sitting through that legit. It is absolutely no wonder how they've managed to kill people with some mmo's.

Weight limits are shit, just get rid of them. If the AI puts up a good fight regardless of the character skills that the player has then no reason to not max out the character skills and let it come down to player skill as to how they get on.

I usually only do that in games that don't respect your time, like Starfield. There is no point to make me take 5 minutes to run from point a to point b when nothing is going to happen in that time, so I just boost my character speed. If we had rovers or vehicles, I wouldn't have to do it.

Part of the fun I've always had playing games with leveling systems is figuring out the strongest shit on my own and stroking my epeen coming into threads saying how easy GAME is after I figured out this combination of weapon/skills that trivializes the game.
