It's also to consider that isometric rpgs are not the best for looking at the character model, so there's only the portrait to inspire coom.
On the other hand, in a 3d rpg like the witcher you get full view of a character's curves and features in detail, with cutscenes giving the player a boner.
While popularity it's the main factor, this surely matters as well.

I was playing LG leaning towards good and I was waiting for the chance to redeem her (also because I was wondering about the spirit and if they would pull a greater good with it) then she wen and killed her dad and not only did nothing happen with the amulet but I also realized that there was no changing her at that point and again I needed the lawful points anyways.
Since most of the waifus are god tier, it's just simpler to name the ones that aren't: Shelyn Boy and Murderer Girl

For me it's because of her ascension ending where she roams the multiverse out of boredom. She's the type who would bite off more than she can chew, and end up in a meatwall.
I thought Act 4 was amazing. It has severe quality of life issues but the atmosphere and aesthetic of the city, the NPCs, the quests and encounters are all top notch. Probably one of the absolute highlights of the game, especially if you take your time teleporting around rooftops to find some secret encounters.
Hard agree, the only problem is that navigating the city can be a pain the first time, one of the few cases where I'm totally for the implementation of quest markers.
If you don't trust Arue, there's really not that much she can do to convince you. She IS fishy, and she DOES try to manipulate you into killing that hag even if her goals were genuinely noble.

IIRC Desna sends you a signal when you first meet her in the cell. I can't remember if you need to select Desna as your deity or not, but that's not the sort of thing you can fake.
On my Angel run I promoted her redemption, just steered clear romance wise for the same reasons. I remember you can say you feel the light in her soul to Galfrey when she has a woman moment at the end of chapter 3
Lich works with nearly everything.
Only things I'd suggest to avoid are Arcanist if you plan to merge and I I am not sure how a few things work for bow users(aka, go melee martial preferably)
While casters make better use of Lich path due to merged spellbook, Lich still breaks the game in half as a martial. As far as companions go, only Seelah quits on you when you go full skeleton.
Not that it matters because by the time it happens, your party will consist mostly of undead anyway

Last spot goes to another melee damage guy, which can be different builds for Seelah, Woljif again or Reg/Greybor.

I'm still in the first couple hours of the game, but why the frick am I (and the rest of my party) missing 75% of their attacks? I swear when I fought that Cultist Champion or whichever, I went a full two turns without anybody hitting anything
He has relatively high AC.
A scroll of bless, making sure you flank, a potion of enlarge, Cam's enhancement ability , making sure you do not fight defensively, maybe those inflict wound scrolls would make thing a bit faster
Missing actually includes stuff like not getting trough the armor, or the enemy blocking the attack.
That enemy has a high AC (armor class) stat, so it's hard to actually damage him.
AC can depend by your dexterity, simulationg your chance to dodge, from your armor, simulating the chance of the hit not piercing the armor, etc...
There are some ways to reduce the enemy AC, or increase your attack bonus to get trough the AC.
Brown fur would not be my first pic for blaster caster, and you still need more Int than cha. Int is the main casting stat, CHa is for explots. Switch them.
16 dex is more than enough. Heck, 14 and getting Int to 19 might be the best

The theorycrafting is a lot better in WoTR if you're into that. People seem mixed on the story. Personally I prefer it to Kingmaker but I do admit that Kingmaker is more consistent on the whole, though that's partially after years.
I really like it and if you shop around CD keys should still be around sale price, as for the DLC there is only two so far, one is a low level PC trying to survive the attack on the city from the games start and the other is set after the game but i hear is not very good.

Xanthir is at least a very gifted mind, as is the alchemist demon you meet in act 4 and kill in act 5.
I'd say these are the canonically competent characters in the game.

Galfrey is canonically int dumper. Her ingame profile is 11 int, however her tabletop profile mentions that she has +3 age bonus on top of base being 8.
Same with Staunton btw, he has 7 (dumped all of it) with same bonus, but 10 in game.

Mythic deadly aim, instant enemy if she is not fighting demons, buff the fricking bows, quarry to auto confirm crits.
5 levels of mutation warrior for mutagen , weapon training and weapon specialization is a nice idea.
She has very high base stats. You are supposed to stack same favorite enemy on ranger and use instant enemy on whatever you want to kill. 2 levels in eldritch archer for additional attack. If you know how to level properly she has very high damage and buffs party.
She is supposed to be absolutely disgusting, she has 5 CHA for frick's sake, so it's working as intended. You go for it if you want to try something unusual.
Why is the alignment system so scuffed? It has the same problems as Kingmaker, except it doesn't show up until later I guess. If you do too many good actions, you lose lawful despite the fact you did nothing chaotic.
Speaking of Regill, it absolutly baffles me how you can take him to Threshold for the Secret Ending and he doesn't have one bit of reactivity to it.
There is absolutely no chance he would ever let (You) conspire with Areelu for divinity. Not a fricking chance. They really should have added a consequence for bringing him to that exchange and had it result in a fight at least
You can't force ascend someone, they have to accept it. IIRC companions whose quests you didn't do nope out of it. So yes, Regill canonically considered what's happening and said "Yes ok Areelu give me divine powers, can't wait to crash at those devil shits and teach them how real discipline looks like".
I mean, think about it, Regill only wishes to fulfill his duty, achieving divinity means he will be able to fulfill his duty in the most efficient, complete way possible. He wouldn't like it, but would he refuse the job?

Well, after 20 levels of rogue, you could play other classes with sneaks like slayer or vivisectionist. Plus their class features liek study target or mutagens.
Or go fighter 20 levels to get the capstone.
It's that simple.
How did you go through the game not understanding class features/abilities?
You do martial trickster playthrough with full BAB class and pick your weapon's crit multi at mythic 2, which you will keep because legend keeps first 2 levels. You then take all those improved improved improved critical feats, which you will also keep, because they aren't in mythic levels. Then you take another full BAB class and find yourself with 40 BAB character that has funny critical profile like 11-20/x5. Here, you tricked it.
Shit I wish there was a way to do something equally crazy with legend caster, but it's a complete waste to make one.
There are 3 Base Attack Bonus progressions in the game. A class with Full BAB progression gets on point of Base Attack Bonus for each level in that class, a class with Medium BAB progression, gets 3 points of BAB for each 4 class levels, in a 0/1/1/1 progression, a Low BAB class gets a point of BAB at each odd class level.
So a character with 20 levels of fighter would have 20 points of BAB, a level 20 wizard would have 10 points, and a level 20 Cleric would have 15 points, as it wouldn't get a point of BAB at levels 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17, as per the table in https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/cleric/
BAB is important for two reasons :
The first is that it gets added to your attack bonus, as in your chance to hit;
The second is that for each 5 points of BAB beyond the first, so levels 6, 11, and 16, you get one extra attack to a maximum of 4 total base attacks when you do a full attack action, which is when you don't move and just attack that round, by default at least.
Split your class decisions into an active and passive class. The active class is the one that you're spending your regular actions on, the passive one either gives you self-buffs or stats. If you want to play a non-magical character then basically any combo will work since they are all designed around your rounds mostly being spent doing full round attacks.
Yeah all the Necrons are actually a race that got turned into robots and had their souls devoured in the process. The Grunts had all of their personality wiped but the higher up the ranks you go the more of their original personality is retained and some of those higher ranked ones are women.

That was going to be my first run but I think something died with my save, can't load anymore. I wasn't too far in though I think, I just got Arue. It was at launch, so maybe something bugged out. I'll give it another shot, being a paladin/angel was fun when I got to shoot holy beams.

Kingmaker is good but it still has some jank to it. I genuinely recommend it except for the very last areas which are pretty garbage.
If you're not used to playing tabletop RPGs or CRPGs, there is no shame in playing on normal or a easier difficulty, the game can be pretty rough if your build is shit and enemies can have some bullshit.
The big thing about the game is the depth of the character creation on classes and stats. I don't think any other CRPG really comes close to Pathfinder's class system. They are missing some cool feats and skills, but other than that it's pretty accurate.

It's also when you get your hands on the lexicon part 2 and give it to the council, and have your "brilliant idea" I'm not going to spoil.

I did Azata ->Gold Dragon but it's starting to sound like Angel and Demon are the real meat? Frick, at least I have multiple playthroughs with content then.
GD really only has act 5 to shine and really only solves the whole Terendelev situation, which you can accidentally just not encounter if you do the right things. Angel gets to do cool things through the entire game.
Wish there was more time spent on GD, smiting everything with zealot fire is cool and all but the redemption story would feel better if it had a longer build up. Or at least I felt really inspired by the massive frick-you dragon that ultimately exists to give a better example for everyone even if it's capable of just getting rid of whoever it doesn't like. Like a fantasy Superman.
A lot of content is lackluster because this is a kickstarter game and the ruskies had to push out a game for release date. AFAIK there was supposed to be a whole evil dragon plotline with the old kobold you meet in chapter 2 that goes nowhere.

Writing is miles better, and much heavier emphasis on choices and consequences. Pathfinder also has very in-depth character customization and diversity, better than D&D and the Divinity series.
Big downside with the Pathfinder games is hilariously broken balance, they make almost no effort to explain the rules clearly to you, and general clunkiness and polish problems with some of the design, UI, etc. Wrath of the Righteous is of my favorite newer CRPGs, haven't played Kingmaker yet though.
Also, Azata/Legend mythic paths = kino and Arushelae best girl.

Attacks of Opportunity can trigger off your criticals and chain based on Teamwork Feats.
Trickster can increase the critical chance for all party members, pets included to around 50%-60%.
Or 100% with a later spell.
You attack and get a critical. Party members with Outflank/Seize the Moment Teamwork Feats get free bonus attack. If this free attack is a critical, it generates more attacks, repeat.

Skald is honesly the best class choice for a main character because it is extremely powerful and gives stacking party wide boosts no other class can get.
Also there is no Bard/Skald party member in the game.
But any melee or non full caster class works with Trickster because getting 50% criticals is lol tier. As a matter of fact, Trickster is pretty much overall the best Mythic barring merging full casters with Lich or Angel, since the critical bonuses also apply to ALL party members and pets.

Alchemist as far as bombs is really shitty in Wrath because there's no Mythic that truly fully supports it, bomb damage scales like shit later on when enemies start having massive HP scores.

It's pretty OK, it's full on edge lord and it shines the most in Chapter 4 especially. Just know that there is an insane difficulty spike in that Chapter if you go down a certain path.

Finnean can get you through the entire game with a bit of work, and most people play with the mod that lets you spawn items in whenever you want so it doesn't matter too much.
Yes, the amount of weapons for most of the weird choices are thin. You're way better off getting "classic" RPG weapons (longsword, greatsword, rapier, axes, bows, crossbows, maces, quarterstaffs, medium/long spears, daggers, etc.)
Some weapons have less variations than others, like starknives
And others get a single option that is a million times better than others, like wide sweep scythe

What Mythic Path would be best to KILL CHAOS? Aeon seems like the obvious answer but I do want to play as some flavor of super heavily-armored Paladin with a warhammer. Would it be better to concede and go with Inquisitor (with investment for armor/hammer) for the synergy with Aeon, or stick with a Paladin and go Angel? Keep in mind that heavy armor is inferior choice for defense even in base pathfinder system, which gets aggravated much further by additional mechanics this one has. Maybe you'll get away with it on low difficulty, but on proper ones main means of stacking AC require you to not have armor.

You can also learn spells from scrolls. In a way, it's sort of the best and worst of both Sorcerer and Wizard put together, and I am very fond of it.

Buy your buff scrolls in bulk in town, SS is the only class that can cast scrolls at their own caster level (which affects buff duration) and frees up their spell slots for spells which require both caster level and feat investment, ie. CC, blaster and debuff spells. It lets you perform two roles in one slot for nothing but gold (which you have nearly infinite of)

I thought Act 4 was amazing. It has severe quality of life issues but the atmosphere and aesthetic of the city, the NPCs, the quests and encounters are all top notch. Probably one of the absolute highlights of the game, especially if you take your time teleporting around rooftops to find some secret encounters.
Hard agree, the only problem is that navigating the city can be a pain the first time, one of the few cases where I'm totally for the implementation of quest markers.

IIRC Desna sends you a signal when you first meet her in the cell. I can't remember if you need to select Desna as your deity or not, but that's not the sort of thing you can fake.

On my Angel run I promoted her redemption, just steered clear romance wise for the same reasons. I remember you can say you feel the light in her soul to Galfrey when she has a woman moment at the end of chapter 3

Lich works with nearly everything.
Only things I'd suggest to avoid are Arcanist if you plan to merge and I I am not sure how a few things work for bow users(aka, go melee martial preferably)
While casters make better use of Lich path due to merged spellbook, Lich still breaks the game in half as a martial. As far as companions go, only Seelah quits on you when you go full skeleton.
Not that it matters because by the time it happens, your party will consist mostly of undead anyway
Grenadier works very well with Lich.

A scroll of bless, making sure you flank, a potion of enlarge, Cam's enhancement ability , making sure you do not fight defensively, maybe those inflict wound scrolls would make thing a bit faster

Then check your Attack Rolls
Missing actually includes stuff like not getting trough the armor, or the enemy blocking the attack.
That enemy has a high AC (armor class) stat, so it's hard to actually damage him.
AC can depend by your dexterity, simulationg your chance to dodge, from your armor, simulating the chance of the hit not piercing the armor, etc...
There are some ways to reduce the enemy AC, or increase your attack bonus to get trough the AC.

The theorycrafting is a lot better in WoTR if you're into that. People seem mixed on the story. Personally I prefer it to Kingmaker but I do admit that Kingmaker is more consistent on the whole, though that's partially after years.
I really like it and if you shop around CD keys should still be around sale price, as for the DLC there is only two so far, one is a low level PC trying to survive the attack on the city from the games start and the other is set after the game but i hear is not very good.
I have not bought a game in 12 years, but I had fun going through this twice.
It's a shame that Lich is stuck as an "evil" path and you can't spin it as making hard choices to stop the end of the world.

Undeath is most extreme taboo in game's setting and is particularly hated by most powerful deity in it. If you are willing to slap pharasma on her face with your bone like it's nothing, then any collateral those mortal tards you call allies suffer doesn't even register in your consciousness. There is no need to be chaotic evil, but it is given that you are pragmatic evil.

Anevia, Regill, Aarelu, Greybor (he is a little cringe but canonically competent), Nocticula and Baphomet (while you can BTFO both depending on the path, they are still shown to be shrewd, and not tardrage like Deskari), most of your Mythic path sugar daddies (Zacharius, Mephistotes or whatever is the devil called, etc).
Xanthir is at least a very gifted mind, as is the alchemist demon you meet in act 4 and kill in act 5.
I'd say these are the canonically competent characters in the game.

Galfrey is canonically int dumper. Her ingame profile is 11 int, however her tabletop profile mentions that she has +3 age bonus on top of base being 8.
Same with Staunton btw, he has 7 (dumped all of it) with same bonus, but 10 in game.

She has very high base stats. You are supposed to stack same favorite enemy on ranger and use instant enemy on whatever you want to kill. 2 levels in eldritch archer for additional attack. If you know how to level properly she has very high damage and buffs party.

You do martial trickster playthrough with full BAB class and pick your weapon's crit multi at mythic 2, which you will keep because legend keeps first 2 levels. You then take all those improved improved improved critical feats, which you will also keep, because they aren't in mythic levels. Then you take another full BAB class and find yourself with 40 BAB character that has funny critical profile like 11-20/x5. Here, you tricked it.
Shit I wish there was a way to do something equally crazy with legend caster, but it's a complete waste to make one.

There are 3 Base Attack Bonus progressions in the game. A class with Full BAB progression gets on point of Base Attack Bonus for each level in that class, a class with Medium BAB progression, gets 3 points of BAB for each 4 class levels, in a 0/1/1/1 progression, a Low BAB class gets a point of BAB at each odd class level.
So a character with 20 levels of fighter would have 20 points of BAB, a level 20 wizard would have 10 points, and a level 20 Cleric would have 15 points, as it wouldn't get a point of BAB at levels 1, 5, 9, 13, and 17, as per the table in https://www.d20pfsrd.com/classes/core-classes/cleric/
BAB is important for two reasons :
The first is that it gets added to your attack bonus, as in your chance to hit;
The second is that for each 5 points of BAB beyond the first, so levels 6, 11, and 16, you get one extra attack to a maximum of 4 total base attacks when you do a full attack action, which is when you don't move and just attack that round, by default at least.
Split your class decisions into an active and passive class. The active class is the one that you're spending your regular actions on, the passive one either gives you self-buffs or stats. If you want to play a non-magical character then basically any combo will work since they are all designed around your rounds mostly being spent doing full round attacks.

That was going to be my first run but I think something died with my save, can't load anymore. I wasn't too far in though I think, I just got Arue. It was at launch, so maybe something bugged out. I'll give it another shot, being a paladin/angel was fun when I got to shoot holy beams.
Kingmaker is good but it still has some jank to it. I genuinely recommend it except for the very last areas which are pretty garbage.
If you're not used to playing tabletop RPGs or CRPGs, there is no shame in playing on normal or a easier difficulty, the game can be pretty rough if your build is shit and enemies can have some bullshit.
The big thing about the game is the depth of the character creation on classes and stats. I don't think any other CRPG really comes close to Pathfinder's class system. They are missing some cool feats and skills, but other than that it's pretty accurate.

I did Azata ->Gold Dragon but it's starting to sound like Angel and Demon are the real meat? Frick, at least I have multiple playthroughs with content then.
GD really only has act 5 to shine and really only solves the whole Terendelev situation, which you can accidentally just not encounter if you do the right things. Angel gets to do cool things through the entire game.
Wish there was more time spent on GD, smiting everything with zealot fire is cool and all but the redemption story would feel better if it had a longer build up. Or at least I felt really inspired by the massive frick-you dragon that ultimately exists to give a better example for everyone even if it's capable of just getting rid of whoever it doesn't like. Like a fantasy Superman.

Writing is miles better, and much heavier emphasis on choices and consequences. Pathfinder also has very in-depth character customization and diversity, better than D&D and the Divinity series.
Big downside with the Pathfinder games is hilariously broken balance, they make almost no effort to explain the rules clearly to you, and general clunkiness and polish problems with some of the design, UI, etc. Wrath of the Righteous is of my favorite newer CRPGs, haven't played Kingmaker yet though.
Also, Azata/Legend mythic paths = kino and Arushelae best girl.

Trickster can increase the critical chance for all party members, pets included to around 50%-60%.
Or 100% with a later spell.
You attack and get a critical. Party members with Outflank/Seize the Moment Teamwork Feats get free bonus attack. If this free attack is a critical, it generates more attacks, repeat.

It is.
Skald is honesly the best class choice for a main character because it is extremely powerful and gives stacking party wide boosts no other class can get.
Also there is no Bard/Skald party member in the game.
But any melee or non full caster class works with Trickster because getting 50% criticals is lol tier. As a matter of fact, Trickster is pretty much overall the best Mythic barring merging full casters with Lich or Angel, since the critical bonuses also apply to ALL party members and pets.

Alchemist as far as bombs is really shitty in Wrath because there's no Mythic that truly fully supports it, bomb damage scales like shit later on when enemies start having massive HP scores.
I'm hoping they improve it on EE but it's wishful thinking at the moment...
Other fun stuff, you ca take the crit feats then switch off to legend if you want absolute rape tier mc. Something like 20 mutation warrior 20 swordsaint with a fauchard destroy everything in a very large death radius, and then regill and lann take care of the chaff.

Maybe not, though you might find yourself more attached to a few of the later companions like Regil or Arue. They tend to be the two most popular. I think most people tend to be pretty indifferent towards Seelah. Cammy is a companion that takes awhile to get going.
I guess ill just stop. Its a shame I enjoy CRPGs and talking to NPCs in game about the world and what not but I get so easily annoyed by companions. Its very rare for a companion to interest me in these games and so very often are companions and their character a massive chunk of the game. Oh well.
I would argue that pretty much every class or build takes a while to get going so should give it more time, but if you're not having any fun at all you should probably just stop
The combat gets better once you have more abilities and spells and whatever to frick around with, and I'm pretty sure you can make custom companions, but if it's really not clicking you should stop, no reason to play something you don't enjoy.

It's pretty OK, it's full on edge lord and it shines the most in Chapter 4 especially. Just know that there is an insane difficulty spike in that Chapter if you go down a certain path.

There are three flags that change how Sosi views his brother
Traitor, Victim & Hero
Your dialogue choices during his quest change it, and it has to be Victim to get recruitment
Hero is just the sacrifice route from what I recall and probably what most people get as it requires you be kind to Sosiel like saying his brother did nothing wrong.

Finnean can get you through the entire game with a bit of work, and most people play with the mod that lets you spawn items in whenever you want so it doesn't matter too much.
Yes, the amount of weapons for most of the weird choices are thin. You're way better off getting "classic" RPG weapons (longsword, greatsword, rapier, axes, bows, crossbows, maces, quarterstaffs, medium/long spears, daggers, etc.)
Some weapons have less variations than others, like starknives
And others get a single option that is a million times better than others, like wide sweep scythe

Very Good, Angel path is basically built for it but there is already a Paladin party member but most people don't like her anyway so just shove her on the bench when you get the chance.
Extremely, being a paladin and going Angel path is practically the best way thematically to play.
You also get a longsword early that upgrades to like +6 eventually when used by a paladin.

This is true, secret ending is absolutely ridiculous and non-canon. But even proper endings result in some pretty unreasonable power level, lich one for example where you throw phylactery into worldwound turning yourself into unremovable lich who will eternally be a thorn in pharasma's ass.
How would that result in turning you fully immortal? Wouldn’t your phylactery just roam the Abyss forever? While that does put it out of reach of most mortals, wouldn’t any sufficiently motivated demon with divination spells be able to find it?

What Mythic Path would be best to KILL CHAOS? Aeon seems like the obvious answer but I do want to play as some flavor of super heavily-armored Paladin with a warhammer. Would it be better to concede and go with Inquisitor (with investment for armor/hammer) for the synergy with Aeon, or stick with a Paladin and go Angel? As long as I can KILL CHAOS, I'm happy either way.
Aeon is the FRICK CHAOS path while Angel is the FRICK EVIL path. Choose whatever you want.

Your Gonna want to go angel and stick with a lawful alignment and then the rest of the game should flow naturally. Also if this is your first time there is a character that is a gnome going by your interests your first instinct will likely be to fight him but don't he hats chaos just as much as you.
Angel is the path for bringing holy fire to evil. It's the path where you really make the demons shit their pants.
Keep in mind that heavy armor is inferior choice for defense even in base pathfinder system, which gets aggravated much further by additional mechanics this one has. Maybe you'll get away with it on low difficulty, but on proper ones main means of stacking AC require you to not have armor.
I've seen that a lot, but for me it's mostly an aesthetic thing. When I do a second playthrough on hard or whatever, I'll probably go all-in on min-max autism.

As for vampire not really, there's a half-vampire race that heals from death magic but it doesn't really play into the story in the same way being a full-blown vampire would, they combo really well with Lich though who can invite a vampire coven into his kingdom

so what is an arcanist?
Prepare spells every day, cast the prepared spells spontaneously. It's basically a sorcerer who can swap his known spells every day into stuff copied to his spellbook.
Downside is that your number of memorized spells is lower than wizard and number of total daily casts is lower than sorcerer.
But it doesn't matter, because you're playing a brown-fur transmuter with the unique ability to cast Dragonkind III on anyone in the party, including the dog.

It's basically a mix between a Sorcerer and a Wizard. They prepare spells at the begining of the day like a Wizard, then get to cast them using daily slots like a Sorcerer. You can also learn spells from scrolls. In a way, it's sort of the best and worst of both Sorcerer and Wizard put together, and I am very fond of it.

but if you wanna do a buffer then cleric would be more up your alley, aside from haste and transformation spells wizard has kinda mediocre buffs compared to divine casters IMO and are better suited as CC/damage/debuff machines

Buy your buff scrolls in bulk in town, SS is the only class that can cast scrolls at their own caster level (which affects buff duration) and frees up their spell slots for spells which require both caster level and feat investment, ie. CC, blaster and debuff spells. It lets you perform two roles in one slot for nothing but gold (which you have nearly infinite of)
