I've definitely seen worse performances by studios, but they were by like 4 or 5 person indie teams so it's not quite fair to compare them to multimillion dollar studios with hundreds of devs. From is by a country mile the worst when it comes to what they put out vs. vs what they should be putting out given size and budget.

It actually is, in Sekiro. Mods that replace the main sword with Mortal Blade have to edit the model's size, otherwise it gets a slightly bigger hitbox because the Mortal Blade is longer.

Elden Ring by contrast, runs on the same engine Demons Souls ran on, and shit that was buggy and broke in Demons Souls is STILL buggy and broke in Elden Ring. If every From game had a new engine and new problems it would be different, but its not. It's doing the same thing for over a decade with a consistent, absolutely inexcusable failure to fix the most basic of problems every single time.
Also why From and not Bethesda? Because From games are extraordinarily simple: you walk around and hit things with a sword, some bells and whistles, bu thats essentially it, there are no real other mechanics. It's one single thing to get right and they consistently fail.
TES gets flak, rightfully for AI bugs, but having a city full of 50 NPCs with their own schedules and allegiances, all of which can interact with one another, is enormously more complicated and harder to polish.
They also don't know how to program a game without input lag. And they also don't know how to limit FPS as the guys at digital foundry showed, they use a fricked up hack that ruins the frame pacing of almost every game and when someone tries to fix it even more input lag is added.

There were a million shit devs from like 1985-2000 that existed just to churn out horrible crap, usually licensed or ports, on the cheap. Of course getting a game done and out the door on budget, even if it is horrible, is a kind of competence.

The guys also fricked up the name of the months to insert two gay Romans (Julius and Augustus) which made the number in the name no longer equivalent to the month number.

He was director on Black and White 1 which were the highest effort pokemon games ever and the first "original versions" since gen 2 to be actually good without the need for a third version to fix them.
